{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://sablan.house.gov/press-release/rota-landholders-can-earn-500-and-help-protect-aga", "Rota landholders can earn $500 and help protect the Aga", "2013-09-16", "2013", "2013-09", "Independent", "Senate", "MP", "Gregorio Sablan", "S001177", "sablan.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is again offering $500 to Rota landholders, who want to help protect the critically endangered Aga, or Mariana crow.\u00a0 Land parcels that Aga inhabit for nesting or feeding are eligible for the payment.\u00a0 In return, landholders agree not to remove vegetation from wooded areas or harass the birds, and must allow biologists onto the property for observation purposes.\u00a0 Our Mariana Crow is now on the brink of extinction.\u00a0 In 1982, there were an estimated 1,318 Aga.\u00a0 Today, there are only 124.\u00a0 That is why we protect the Aga under federal and Commonwealth law.\u00a0 We know we have a responsibility to hand over the natural world to those who come after us, as it was passed on to us by our ancestors.\u00a0 The Landowner Incentive Plan is a joint endeavor between the Service, the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance, the Commonwealth Division of Fish and Wildlife, the Office of the Mayor of Rota, and the University of Washington Rota Avian Behavioral Ecology Program.\u00a0 To get more information call Nick Songsong, Resident Director of DLNR at 532-9495, or Julia Boland, USFWS biologist at 285-9453.\u00a0 For an application click here.\u00a0 The deadline is November 1, 2013.\nRota lands marked in blue on the map\u00a0above\u00a0are eligible to participate in the\u00a0Aga Incentive Plan.
