The rule is published in the Federal Register today and goes into effect on February 14. Even workers whose employers applied for an extension before that date may qualify. The new rule is an improvement to the immigration system, but is not a solution to the ongoing problem of delayed CW processing. The delays have meant lost income for NMI businesses and workersforeign and U.S. I have pressed U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Lon Rodrguez to clear the backlog and met with his processing staff in California last week to make sure they understand the costs of the slowdown to the NMI economy.\n CHCI summer internships open to NMI students.  \nFull-time college undergraduate students from the Northern Mariana Islands are eligible for paid summer internships with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. CHCI interns will have the opportunity to work in a congressional office and get training in the legislative process, constituent casework, legislative research, and other meaningful work. Other benefits include round-trip airfare to Washington, DC, a $2,500 stipend, free housing, academic credit, leadership training, networking opportunities, and more. Gilman International Scholarship  Qualified organizations may submit proposals for administering the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. The intent of the program is to broaden the U.S. student population that participates in study abroad by focusing on those students who would not otherwise study outside the U.S. due to financial constraints. The program provides funding to states and territories for species and habitat conservation actions on non-federal lands. Closing date is March 18, 2016. These projects must involve only long-term protection, restoration, enhancement and/or establishment of wetlands and associated uplands habitats for the benefit of all wetlands-associated migratory birds.
