Funding was previously slated to run out at 11:59pm tonight December 8, 2017. This two-week bill will keep the government open through December 22nd.
“Passing a skeleton two-week funding bill is absolutely no way to govern,” said Rep. Schrader. “It’s our duty in Congress to make sure taxpayer money is being used wisely, but this piecemeal, short-term way of budgeting doesn’t do that. The bill doesn't even address problems that our country is currently facing like fixing funding for wildfires or flood insurance. We still haven’t fully funded the Children’s Health Insurance Program for the longer term, which has historically been a bipartisan, noncontroversial task. And the Republican majority still refuses to address DACA, keeping the young folks throughout our communities, as well as their employers – which span the gamut of American industries including medical practices and schools – in this nightmarish limbo of uncertainty and fear. This is so recklessly irresponsible to shove off our most significant responsibility to the last minute.”
Believing that the number one job of Congress is to pass a budget, Rep. Schrader is an original cosponsor of H.R.1779, the No Budget, No Pay Act, which would suspend the salary of Members of Congress if they do not pass a budget on time. This is the third consecutive Congress that the bill has been introduced, and Rep. Schrader has been an original cosponsor of the bill every time.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
http://schrader.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=390979
