Southern Illinois University Interim Chancellor Paul Sarvela as well as former Congressmen Lane Evans and Phil Crane all passed away separately since Wednesday.\u00a0\nInterim Chancellor Paul Sarvela (Passed away November 9th 2014)\n\u201cThe SIU community has lost a distinguished leader and devoted educator with the passing of Dr. Paul Sarvela,\u201d said Shimkus. \u201cMy thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Debbie, their son, daughter, family and friends.\u201d\nFormer Congressman Phil Crane (November 3, 1930 \u2013 November 8, 2014)\n\u201cPhil Crane is a legend in conservative circles for his leadership, intellectual contribution and lifelong support of the conservative cause,\u201d said Shimkus. \u201cBut I\u2019ll mostly remember Phil as a dedicated public servant to his constituents, a good father and husband to his family, and as a personal friend.\u201d\nFormer Congressman Lane Evans (August 4, 1951 \u2013 November 5, 2014)\n\"As a marine, lawyer and congressman, Lane Evans always fought for the causes and constituents he cared so deeply for. His dedication to public service was a model for us all. My prayers are with his friends and family during this difficult time.\"\nCongressman Shimkus will lead the Illinois Congressional Delegation in speeches honoring our state\u2019s recently departed public figures this week.
