S.2943, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 authorizes $619 billion for the Department of Defense.\r\n\r\n\t\u201cWe live in a dangerous world, and the strength of our armed forces is the key to protecting our homeland and defeating our enemies, especially radical\u00a0Islamic terrorists,\u201d said Congressman Shuster. \u201cAs we crafted this legislation, I worked to help reverse the devastating toll the Obama Administration has taken on our armed forces - ensuring we do not compromise our warfighters when comes to providing the necessary funding they need to execute their mission.\u201d\r\n\r\n\tThis legislation, which ensures that our military has the tools they need to protect and defend the United States, provides a 2.1% pay raise for our troops, increases ground and aviation training, strengthens healthcare for our men and women serving, and makes investments to continue modernizing and improving our nation\u2019s weapons systems.\r\n\r\n\tA continued top priority for Congressman Shuster is also rejecting the Obama Administration, and House and Senate Democrats call for a Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) round.
