Sires Applauds $3 Billion in Grant Funding for Transit Resiliency Projects", "2013-12-23", "2013", "2013-12", "Democrat", "House", "NJ", "Albio Sires", "S001165", "sires.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "(Washington, D.C.)\u2014Today, Congressman Albio Sires welcomed the announcement that $3 billion in competitive grant funding through the Federal Transit Administration\u2019s (FTA) Hurricane Sandy Resilience Program will be made available for public transportation resiliency projects in regions affected by Hurricane Sandy, including New Jersey. \u00a0\u00a0Earlier this month, Congressman Sires urged FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff to provide the additional grant funding as expeditiously as possible so that New Jersey can continue addressing future transit vulnerabilities.\n\u00a0\n\u201cHurricane Sandy was the worst transit disaster in United States history,\u201d said Congressman Sires.\u00a0 \u201cAmerican tax payers should not be asked to simply rebuild our critical infrastructure to the level it was before the storm.\u00a0 We must rebuild smarter and stronger to ensure that we don\u2019t find ourselves in the same position the next time a major storm hits.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\n\u00a0\nThe Federal Transit Administration has already allocated $1.3 billion from the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2012 for locally prioritized resiliency projects.
