Fifteen women lawmakers gathered for the first meeting. They kept meeting to talk about Social Security, private pension reform, and the importance of child care and job training in\u00a0moving women off welfare, according\u00a0to a history of the group.\n\n\t\n\t\tBrooks said the caucus is a forum to discuss major policy issues of the day with a focus on how those issues affect women and families. She said the group was a driving force behind past legislation to protect women against violent crimes and to extend health care to lower-income children.\n\t\n\n\u201cWe will work with our colleagues as strong advocates for women and families in the upcoming Congress,\u201d Brooks said in a statement.\nBrooks will also head the House panel overseeing the ethical conduct of her colleagues.\nServing as chairman of the House Ethics Committee is an unenviable assignment as committee members sit in judgment of their colleagues.
