Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-IN05) was elected to serve as an at-large member of the Republican Conference Steering Committee in the House of Representatives. The Steering Committee is responsible for making committee assignments for Republican members of the House. Brooks was the only woman running for one of six at-large seats on the committee and earned the most votes in the election today.\nIm honored that my colleagues have placed their confidence in me to be an advocate for them on the Steering Committee, Brooks said. The diversity of our conference is a great asset to our legislative work, especially in the committees. Committee assignments should take advantage of the unique expertise, experiences, interests, and districts that make up our conference and use them to inform and improve policy. I look forward to working with my colleagues to make sure that we can maximize our strengths and serve the American people to the best of our ability.\nThe Steering Committee is made up of 35 members of the Republican Conference, including elected members of the leadership team, regional representatives, members representing Congressional classes, at-large members, and a rotating seat for committee chairs. In addition to Congresswoman Brooks, Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS), Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO), Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), and Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) won at-large seats on the Steering Committee at todays election. Each member of the Republican Conference was allowed to vote only once. Congresswoman Brooks earned the support of 42 members of the Conference.
