In Grant County, she was joined by Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann, Mayor Wayne Seybold and State Representative Kevin Mahan.\u00a0\n\u201cI am deeply saddened by the destruction and loss too many Hoosier communities are facing right now. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by yesterday\u2019s storms. On behalf of 5th District residents, I\u2019d like to extend my most sincere thanks to our tremendous first responders who acted quickly and courageously to protect the lives and property of so many Hoosiers. Too often, we take their efforts for granted. This was a powerful reminder of the essential and exceptional services they provide.\u00a0\nIn Atlanta (IN), Jackson Fire Territory Chief Steve White told me of volunteer firefighters who bravely continued working even as their own fire department building sustained significant structural damage. In Marion (IN), I met a police officer who fearlessly attempted to rescue a family trapped within an overturned trailer. I also witnessed many utility workers attending to broken lines so that Hoosier families could regain access to power as quickly as possible.\nMany of our local police, fire and emergency management departments deserve additional applause for their smart use of social media during this very difficult time. The alerts and tips they provided residents were timely and useful and undoubtedly save lives.\u00a0\nSince taking office, I have seen Hoosiers repeatedly rally together when faced with challenging circumstances. I know that this occasion will be no different.
