In fact, it\u2019s the key to empowerment and a pathway to success in life,\u201d stated Rep. Thompson.\n\tThompson discussed his own career path and described \"passion, principles and purpose\" as three areas of personal development that he believes are essential to advancing educational and career goals.\n\t\u201cI found my passion in service to others. Helping individuals with life-changing disease and disability find health and dignity is what led me into the field of health care,\u201d Rep. Thompson told the students.\u00a0 \u201cServing others is also the passion that informed my decision to run for Congress. If you have a passion, choose that path, work hard, and it will enable you to succeed.\u201d\n\tPrior to being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, Thompson spent 28 years in a non-profit health care setting as a therapist, rehabilitation services manager and a licensed Nursing Home Administrator.\n\t\u201cCongressman Thompson fielded questions from students regarding the Affordable Health Care Act, energy policy, education funding, the Allegheny National Forest and other topics of interest to the students,\u201d stated Amanda Hetrick, Forest Area School District Superintendent. \u201cThe discussion was informative and helped our students see that Congressman Thompson is a leader who is accessible and interested in the opinions of his constituents in helping to shape the policies of our nation.\u201d\n\tFollowing the event, Thompson attended a meeting with school board members, community leaders, and economic development representatives during which they discussed matters related to education policy, Secure Rural Schools, and career and technical education programs.\n\tIn the House, Thompson serves as Co-Chairman of the bipartisan Career and Technical Education Caucus, and on three committees: Education; Natural Resources; and Agriculture.\nClick here to view photos from the events.\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://thompson.house.gov/press-release/thompson-discusses-pathways-educational-and-career-success-forest-county-high-school"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.4289929531514645, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
