Below are her remarks:\u00a0\n\u00a0\n\u00a0\n\u201cNearly 73 years ago, as countries across Europe were falling to Hitler\u2019s forces, an emissary from Mussolini arrived in Athens to demand the Greeks surrender and allow Axis forces to occupy the country.\u00a0\n\u00a0\n\u201cIn response, the Greeks courageously replied No \u2013 Oxi \u2013 no. \u00a0\u00a0\n\u00a0\n\u201cThe Axis forces quickly descended on Greece, but they failed to anticipate the courage of the Hellenic people who led a passionate resistance in defense of their freedom and their beloved country.\u00a0\n\u00a0\n\u201cOn the island of Crete alone, for example, with only broomsticks and plowshares as weapons, women and children held the Germans at bay for 10 days breaking their assault.\u00a0\n\u00a0\n\u201cThe story of this bravery has been largely overlooked in the history books, but the Greek refusal to surrender proved to be one of the most decisive moments in the war.\u00a0\n\u00a0\n\u201cAs Winston Churchill said, \u2018If there had not been the virtue and courage of the Greeks, we do not know what the outcome of World War II would have been.\u2019\n\u00a0\n\u201cOn October 28, Greeks around the world celebrate Oxi Day to honor the great legacy of the Greek people and to share with the world the story of their bravery.\u00a0\n\u00a0\n\u201cI commend them and say happy Oxi Day.\u201d", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://titus.house.gov/news/floor-statements/congresswoman-titus-celebrates-oxi-day"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9970599785447121, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
