The amendment stops federal banking regulators from penalizing financial institutions for providing services to marijuana-related business that operate according to state law. It passed the House today 231-192.\n\u201cI rise in support of this amendment. The medical marijuana industry is rapidly taking root in Nevada.\u00a0  \n\t\u201cOur local governments are developing regulations and issuing licenses as we speak. \u00a0  \n\t\u201cYet representatives of this exciting industry continue to raise the same concern - lack of access to banks, which is critical for the safe operation of any small business.  \n\t\u201cThis common sense measure would respect states\u2019 rights, add more transparency, facilitate regulation, protect the public, and foster the growth of small business.  \n\t\u201cI urge your vote in favor.\u201d\nA similar amendment to the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Bill, sponsored by Congresswoman Titus, which prohibited the Justice Department from interfering in legally-operating, marijuana businesses passed the House 219-189 on May 30, 2014.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://titus.house.gov//news/floor-statements/titus-calls-for-increased-access-to-banks-for-medical-marijuana-industry"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8971416391432285, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
