Veasey Joins House Democrats to Urge Speaker Boehner to Extend Unemployment Benefits for Millions", "2013-12-11", "2013", "2013-12", "Democrat", "House", "TX", "Marc Veasey", "V000131", "veasey.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, D.C.\u2014With only a few days left before Congress adjourns until January 2014, Congressman Marc Veasey TX-33, joined members of the House of Representatives calling on Speaker Boehner to take immediate action and extend unemployment benefits.\n\u201cOur responsibility in Congress is to provide a lifeline program to individuals who need a helping hand, not ignore them,\u201d said Congressman Veasey. \u201cAs Congress continues to work on a budget deal this week, we must not fail the American people by refusing to extend critical unemployment benefits for 1.3 million Americans, close to 68,900 of whom reside in Texas, in the midst of the holiday season.\u201d\nThe Federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation program protects over 1.3 million unemployed Americans.
