Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) delivered the following remarks on the Senate floor regarding President Obamas support for the United Nations climate proposal recently signed in Paris:\r\nTranscript of Senator Barrassos remarks:\r\nOver the weekend, countries meeting in Paris signed a broad new climate agreement. President Obama called the agreement a success.\r\nHe said it was a strong agreement.\r\nWell, despite the fanfare, lets keep some things in perspective.\r\nThere are important parts of this agreement that can do a great deal of damage to American jobs and to the American economy. And that should be, and is a big concern to the American people.\r\nParts of the agreement can do damage to our jobs and our economy.\r\nAt the same time, important parts are not binding on other countries.\r\nThe American people are right to wonder if the White House has signed yet another terrible deal just to try to shore up the presidents legacy.\r\nEarlier this year, President Obama was so anxious, so desperate to get a deal with Iran over its nuclear program, that the president signed a terrible deal.\r\nSince then, the International Atomic Energy Agency says that Iran has seriously undermined the agencys ability to verify what Iran has done.\r\nWell, here we are again.\r\nIts another bad deal, and other countries who signed it, well they are already ignoring it.\r\nTo point, India is the worlds third-largest emitter of carbon. The agreement was on Saturday, this agreement tied plans to meet their emission targets to getting U.S. taxpayer dollars.\r\nThen on Monday, just yesterday, India said that it plans to double its coal output by 2020.\r\nIs that what President Obama calls in his mind a success?\r\nWell, a Gallup poll came out yesterday that showed that the American peoples biggest concern is not climate change, its terrorism. Only three percent of all Americans said that pollution or the environment is the most important problem facing America today.\r\nPresident Obama said that climate change is our biggest threat.\r\nPresident Obama continues to put a priority on things that he expects to help his legacy, not on the things that the American public actually are concerned about.\r\nWell, as elected representatives, we should not allow the president to buy a legacy for himself using American taxpayer dollars.\r\nI am willing to sit down with any Democrat who wants to work on a realistic, responsible, and achievable plan to make American energy as clean as we can, as fast we can, without raising costs on American families.\r\nThat really should be our goal.\r\nComing together to find a real solution, real world solution, things that work  not just signing a symbolic agreement that does not solve anything.\r\nSomething that may make the president feel good, but doesnt actually do good.\r\nDemocrats and Republicans in the Senate can do it  just look at all that weve accomplished this year working together.\r\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://www.barrasso.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/news-releases?ID=957c91d6-247a-4e64-933a-44f9b42d8d8f"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9748032316565514, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
