Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) to introduce the Cyber Security Public Awareness Act, a bill Blunt says would improve public awareness of cyber security threats. The new reporting requirements would apply to federal agencies charged with monitoring and responding to cyber threats.\r\nBlunt says cyber attacks have increased in frequency and efficacy, resulting in billions of dollars of intellectual property lost, millions of Americans\u2019 identities stolen, increased vulnerability of critical infrastructure to sabotage, and intrusions into sensitive government networks. But, he says, reliable information about cyber attacks and cyber risks remains largely unavailable to consumers, businesses, and policy makers.\r\n\u201cCyber breaches are a serious and growing \u200ethreat to our country\u2019s security, and this bill will give us a greater understanding of the number of threats and the tools available to repel them,\u201d Blunt said. \u201cI\u2019m pleased to partner with Senator Whitehouse as we work to improve awareness of the danger of cyber attacks on our nation\u2019s government and private sector networks.\u201d\r\n\u201cThe cyber threat posed to American corporate and government networks and to individual users of the internet is enormous and unrelenting,\u201d said Whitehouse, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism.\u00a0 \u201cYet too many Americans remain in the dark about the severity and nature of this threat.\u00a0 This legislation will allow us to better arm ourselves with the basic knowledge needed to protect our nation\u2019s vital assets and our privacy.\u00a0 I particularly thank my lead cosponsor Senator Blunt for his assistance.\u201d\r\nGraham agrees, saying Congress has failed to forge a workable cyber security framework to protect the United States against a fast-growing national security and economic threat.\r\nBlumenthal says cyber attacks mare making America less safe, and new reporting requirements for federal agencies would better protect the U.S. from hackers who wish to do harm.\r\nThe bill also includes provisions to enhance awareness of threats against our nation\u2019s critical infrastructure, Blunt says, as well as publicly traded businesses, and individual internet users.\r\nRead more here.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://www.blunt.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/in-the-news?ContentRecord_id=edea6af8-6c5b-4be2-b630-b1654319ec9e"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.524843042716384, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
