U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced $319,560 in new federal emergency funding for Harrison County. The funding  from the U.S. Department of Agricultures (USDA) Rural Development Agency  will help construct an emergency waterline in Cadiz in response to high levels of microcystina byproduct of toxic algae bloomsin local drinking water. The funding comes from the Emergency and Imminent Community Water Assistance Program.\r\nWhen toxic algal blooms and other threats to our water supply make water unsafe to drink, we must provide assistance to local communities for relief, said Brown. This emergency water line will give thousands in Cadiz needed access to safe drinking water.\r\nThe Village of Cadizs drinking water source is an above ground reservoir. During this past summer, the reservoirs microcystin levels from a toxic algal bloom made the reservoirs water temporarily unsafe.
