Brown&#x2019;s Office Presents Military Service Awards to Family of Northeast Ohio Veteran Who Survived Pearl Harbor Attack", "2014-12-08", "2014", "2014-12", "Democrat", "House", "OH", "Sherrod Brown", "B000944", "www.brown.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Monday, December 8, 2014\n            \n\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tWARREN, OH \u2014In a ceremony at First Presbyterian Church in Warren on the day after Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, the family of Lucian \u2018Sam\u2019 Biviano \u2013 a World War II veteran who survived the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor while he was serving aboard the USS Oklahoma \u2013 received six military awards that U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) helped secure. A representative from Brown\u2019s office was in attendance.\r\n\u201cAs a member of the Greatest Generation, Mr. Biviano made an invaluable contribution to our fight for worldwide peace and democracy. Ohio\u2019s current and former service members have answered the call to action without delay throughout our nation\u2019s history,\u201d Brown said. \u201cAs a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans\u2019 Affairs, one of the most rewarding aspects of my job is fighting for Ohio\u2019s veterans by ensuring that they receive the benefits they so richly deserve.\u201d\r\nBiviano served in the Pacific Theater throughout World War II and was discharged in 1945. After the war, he graduated from what is now Youngstown State University (formerly Youngstown College) and worked for 34 years as a tax agent for the Ohio Department of Taxation.
