Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced Senate passage of the Microbeads Free Waters Act of 2015  legislation he cosponsored to keep Ohios fish supply free from harmful toxins. The bill, which would ban cosmetics that contain synthetic plastic microbeads, now heads to the Presidents desk.\r\nOhios waterways, like Lake Erie, are an important source of food and we must protect their wildlife from the threat of synthetic microbeads, Brown said. By banning microbeads, we can help ensure that the food Ohioans eat is free from toxic chemicals.\r\nMicrobeads, which are found in many common personal care and beauty products, do not dissolve when rinsed down the drain. Instead, they absorb toxic chemicals, like heavy metals and pesticides, and accumulate in waterways where fish often mistake them for food.
