U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution designating Saturday, December 12, 2015 as Wreaths Across America Day.\nOn December 12th, a convoy of volunteers is scheduled to arrive at Arlington National Cemetery to lay approximately 230,000 Maine-made balsam wreaths at the grave site of each American veteran interred there. This is the 24th consecutive year that Morrill and Karen Worcester, owners of Worcester Wreath Company in Harrington, Maine will make this generous donation. The procession to Arlington began on December 6th in Harrington where Patriot Guard Riders continued their tradition of escorting the wreath trucks down the East Coast. In addition to Arlington National Cemetery, volunteers will place wreaths at over 1,000 locations in all 50 states and in numerous national veteran cemeteries on foreign soil.\nWreaths Across America is a powerful demonstration of respect and appreciation for our veterans  both those that weve lost and those still with us  that reminds them and their families that we are eternally grateful for their service and sacrifice, said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. And this proud tradition, still going strong after the Worcesters started it 24 years ago, is built on the same spirit of generosity that helps make the holiday season so special. We are honored to join with the countless volunteers and supporters who come together to make Wreaths Across America possible and share in honoring and remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.\n\nThe resolutionis below:\n\n+++\n\nWhereas, 24 years before the date of adoption of this resolution,\nthe Wreaths Across America project began with an\nannual tradition that occurs in December, of donating,\ntransporting, and placing 5,000 Maine balsam fir remembrance\nwreaths on the graves of the fallen heroes buried\nat Arlington National Cemetery;\n\nWhereas, in the 24 years preceding the date of adoption of\nthis resolution, more than 2,416,000 wreaths have been\nsent to locations, including national cemeteries and veterans\nmemorials, in every State and overseas;\n\nWhereas the mission of the Wreaths Across America project,\nto Remember, Honor, Teach, is carried out in part by\ncoordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in all 50 States\nand overseas, including at\n(1) Arlington National Cemetery;\n(2) veterans cemeteries; and\n(3) other locations;\n\nWhereas the Wreaths Across America project carries out a\nweek-long veterans parade between Maine and Virginia,\nstopping along the way to spread a message about the\nimportance of\n(1) remembering the fallen heroes of the United\nStates;\n(2) honoring those who serve; and\n(3) reminding the people of the United States about\nthe sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve\nfreedoms in the United States;\n\nWhereas, in 2014, approximately 716,000 remembrance\nwreaths were sent to more than 1,000 locations across\nthe United States and overseas, an increase of more than\n100 locations compared to the previous year;\n\nWhereas, in December 2015, the tradition of escorting tractor-\ntrailers filled with donated wreaths from Harrington,\nMaine, to Arlington National Cemetery will be continued\nby\n(1) the Patriot Guard Riders; and\n(2) other patriotic escort units, including\n(A) motorcycle units;\n(B) law enforcement units; and\n(C) first responder units;\n\nWhereas hundreds of thousands of individuals volunteer each\nDecember to help lay remembrance wreaths;\n\nWhereas the trucking industry in the United States continues\nto support the Wreaths Across America project by providing\ndrivers, equipment, and related services to assist\nin the transportation of wreaths across the United States\nto over 1,000 locations;\n\nWhereas the Senate designated December 13, 2014, as\nWreaths Across America Day; and\n\nWhereas, on December 12, 2015, the Wreaths Across America\nproject will continue the proud legacy of bringing remembrance\nwreaths to Arlington National Cemetery:\nNow, therefore, be it\n\nResolved, That the Senate\n(1) designates December 12, 2015, as Wreaths\nAcross America Day;\n(2) honors\n(A) the Wreaths Across America project;\n(B) patriotic escort units, including\n(i) motorcycle units;\n(ii) law enforcement units; and\n(iii) first responder units;\n(C) the trucking industry in the United\nStates; and\n(D) the volunteers and donors involved in\nthis worthy tradition; and\n(3) recognizes\n(A) the service of veterans and members of\nthe Armed Forces; and\n(B) the sacrifices that veterans, members\nof the Armed Forces, and their families have\nmade, and continue to make,\nfor the United States, a great Nation.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://www.collins.senate.gov/newsroom/senate-passes-collins-king-resolution-marking-december-12-2015-%E2%80%9Cwreaths-across-america-0"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.498765079304576, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
