By changing the composition of coins, the U.S. Mint can produce coins at a lower cost while integrating them seamlessly into the current coin supply. Making even a slight alteration to the composition could save the federal government $48 million over the first 10 years. It is a win-win and I urge my colleagues in the Senate to pass this legislation soon.\r\nThis commonsense, bipartisan bill would save millions of taxpayer dollars, according to the Government Accountability Office and the U.S. Mint, Senator Hassan said. I urge Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to bring our fiscally responsiblelegislation up for a vote without delay to ensure that this bill can be sent to the President's desk before the end of the year.\r\nThe bipartisanCoin Metal Modification Authorization and Cost Savings Actauthorizes the U.S. Mint to modify the metallic composition of circulating coins if the modification will reduce costs incurred by taxpayers, allow for a seamless transition into circulation, and have minimal impact on the public.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://www.enzi.senate.gov//public/index.cfm/news-releases?ContentRecord_id=F22ECD5B-6F5B-461F-8D7D-A79B6413A4C3"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7061758078634739, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
