{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://www.murkowski.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/pressreleases?ContentRecord_id=5e17e50b-cd3e-4485-895d-749efb0a39fc", "Murkowski: Justice Hidden Remains Justice Denied", "2014-11-17", "2014", "2014-11", "Republican", "House", "AK", "Lisa Murkowski", "M001153", "www.murkowski.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "11.17.14\n\t\t\t Murkowski: Justice Hidden Remains Justice Denied \n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t \n\t\n\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n        \n\t\t\t\t Senator Responds to Study Showing Continued Failure to Disclose Evidence to Defense\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t Senator Lisa Murkowski today offered the following observation upon the release of the \u201cMaterial Indifference\u201d study conducted by the University of Santa Clara Law School and National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers showing that legal mischief \u2013 like that seen in the Ted Stevens trial \u2013 continues to be a reality in courtrooms nationwide, saying:\r\n\u201cThough Attorney General Eric Holder threw Ted Stevens\u2019 guilty verdict out of court because Department of Justice attorneys played \u2018hide the football\u2019 with evidence that could have helped his case, he only dealt with the symptom and allowed the problem to linger among the legal ranks.\u00a0 I hope that his successor will truly commit to uprooting this issue that is undercutting Americans\u2019 faith in the judicial branch, and plan to re-introduce my bipartisan Fairness in Disclosure of Evidence Act in the next Congressional session.\u00a0 We can no longer allow the government to have a finger on the scales of justice, tipping it in its favor.\u201d\r\nNACDL\u2019s description of the report released today reads:\r\nIn courtrooms across the nation, accused persons are convicted without ever having seen information that was favorable to their defense.
