{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://www.shelby.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/inthenews?ContentRecord_id=fab77183-77cf-49ad-bc04-f565d11fe276", "Tuscaloosa News: Senate bill passed this weekend includes funding for Tuscaloosa water center", "2014-12-16", "2014", "2014-12", "Republican", "House", "AL", "Richard Shelby", "S000320", "www.shelby.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "The omnibus appropriations bill passed this weekend by the U.S. Senate includes $4 million for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration's National Water Center in Tuscaloosa.\r\n\r\nThe center, which is at a 60,000-square-foot building on Hackberry Lane, Center is designed to serve as a central location for collaboration between academic institutions across the country and the more than 20 federal agencies involved in critical water research.\r\nFederal officials have called the National Water Center the national \u201cnerve center\u201d for water research\r\nSen. Richard Shelby, R-Tuscaloosa, said in a news release that while he opposed the omnibus appropriations bill, he has long supported funding for the water center.\r\n\u201cThe research conducted at the National Water Center at the University of Alabama is critical to gaining an increased understanding of our vital water resources,\u201d Shelby said. \u201cThis center allows our nation to better predict and manage various water-related ecological problems while fostering nationwide collaboration on water issues.
