Bice | B000740 | bice.house.gov | bice | https://bice.house.gov/media/press-releases | scraper | Washington, D.C. — Representative Stephanie Bice (OK-05) issued the following statement after the passage of the FY 2023 omnibus spending package: “Instead of working in regular order, Democrats in Congress have sat on their hands, waiting until the last week before Christmas to ram through a massive, 4,155-page government spending bill. With ongoing inflation, now is not the time to drastically increase domestic spending. To make matters worse, this legislation fails to address the numerous issues facing the American people, including the crisis at the southern border. I voted no and strongly oppose this legislation.” | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:32:05Z |

Cole opposed the $1.7 trillion legislation. "This bill contains many provisions I am supportive of such as the needed and substantial increase in defense spending, as well as increases for pandemic preparedness, career training and early education programs and local projects that would benefit the Fourth District of Oklahoma," said Cole. "However, I am disappointed by how a deal was reached on this massive legislation. Crafted mostly by House Democratic leadership and the Senate behind closed doors, this is simply out of regular order. In fact, the Senate did not even pass a single bill out of committee. Had they followed regular order, there certainly might have been more bipartisan support for this package. This is not how elected lawmakers should work for the American people." Cole made extensive remarks during the House Rules Committee's consideration of the legislation. Video of his remarks available here and transcript here. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:32:05Z |

"It was with great sadness I heard of the passing of former Oklahoma Secretary of Transportation Gary Ridley. He was not only a superb public servant but a good personal friend. "Gary served multiple Oklahoma governors as a career professional at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. He rose through the ranks to serve as Secretary of Transportation for governors of both parties. At the peak of his career of public service, he was regarded by many, including me, as the finest state director of transportation in America. "Gary was exceptionally able and professional. He was bipartisan in his style and incorruptible as a person and a public official. Thanks to him and the standards he set for his department, Oklahoma's roads and highways are safer and better located and maintained than at any time in our state's history. And the safety measures he pioneered and instituted have saved the lives of countless Oklahomans. "I first met and worked with Gary as a state legislator in the late 1980s. We continued to interact during my time as Secretary of State in the Keating Administration of the 1990s and as a member of Congress since 2003. I never had a meeting with Gary in which I didn't learn something. And he never asked me to do anything other than help provide Oklahomans the best transportation system possible with the resources that were available at the federal, state and local levels. "Gary Ridley was a wise, far-seeing and splendid servant to the people of Oklahoma both as a public official and a private consultant. He served them selflessly and ably for many decades. I will miss him greatly. The people of Oklahoma and the career professionals at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation will miss him even more." ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:32:05Z |

Second, this legislation reinstates safety regulations and in-person dispensing requirements for dangerous chemical abortions. It further bars the FDA from waiving these protections in the future. “June’s monumental pro-life victory in the Dobbs v. JacksonSupreme Court case provided us with an opportunity to save millions of lives across the United States” said Rep. Hern. “President Biden’s abuse of executive power has gone on long enough. Biden’s pattern is alarming; time and time again, he disregards the rule of law to cave to the radical left’s demands. It’s time to restore order and integrity. I’m proud to introduce this legislation to push back against executive overreach & protect life across the country!” Rep. Hern’s legislation has earned praise from leaders of the pro-life movement. “President Biden’s FDA abused their public health emergency authority to advance this administration’s radical abortion agenda, recklessly abandoning safety regulations for chemical abortion, leaving women to have dangerous at home abortions without sufficient health and safety screening,” said Hon. Marilyn Musgrave, vice president of government affairs for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. “We thank Congressman Hern for this thoughtful proposal that rolls back the FDA’s overstep and includes necessary abortion reporting requirements to protect unborn children and their mothers.” “President Biden abused a public health emergency declaration for COVID-19 to advance his pro-abortion agenda,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America, the nation’s largest women’s public policy organization. “Caving to pressure from activist groups like Planned Parenthood, ACLU, and others, his Administration removed safety guidelines that protect women from taking mail-order abortion drugs outside the oversight or care of a d… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:32:05Z |

The American people elected a Republican Congress with a clear mandate: stop the spending before it’s too late. We need to take back the purse strings as soon as possible; the Democrats’ omnibus subverts the will of the people and locks in absurd spending levels through the end of the fiscal year. This award is given to individuals who preach a green agenda but are climate hypocrites in real life. While Friends of Fossil Fuels wage a war on traditional energy, they’re really helping the industry every time they take a private flight. Secretary Buttigieg has championed Green New Deal initiatives and has advocated for the federal workforce to transition to electric vehicles. All the while, he’s taken at least 18 private flights using taxpayer-funded jets. Buttigieg previously faced scandal after publicly saying he rode a bike to work in Washington, DC, to save the environment only for cameras to catch him putting his bike in the trunk of a large, gas-guzzling SUV that followed him the whole trip. “Rules for thee, but not for me – it’s the mantra of the left,” said Rep. Hern. “They want middle- and working-class Americans to feel bad for putting gas in their cars to get to work, but they’ll still fly private. The hypocrisy is infuriating for millions of Americans struggling to heat their homes as a result of Biden’s war on energy.” Rep. Hern previously gave the Friend of Fossil Fuels Award to Biden Climate Czar John Kerry. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:32:05Z |

Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2023. This legislation overturns Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, works to counter China, increases defense funding to keep pace with inflation, and provides a 4.6% pay raise for our servicemembers. Furthermore, Republicans in Congress were successful in eliminating many unrelated defense items from this legislation. Congresswoman Bice was successful in adding over 30 provisions to this year’s NDAA. These provisions include protecting the E-3 wing at Tinker AFB, $301 million to accelerate the transition to the E-7, and $30 million for Tinker’s B-21 Depot Maintenance Campus. Congresswoman Bice issued the following statement: “I was thrilled to vote in support of the James M. Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act. This year’s NDAA goes a long way toward supporting our combat capabilities and military readiness. Critically, this legislation repeals Biden’s unlawful vaccine mandate, which was negatively affecting military retention and recruiting. I am grateful that many of my priorities and legislative initiatives, which will directly benefit our military community in Oklahoma’s Fifth District, are in the final version of this bill." | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:32:05Z |

Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2023. With Cole's support, the bill passed the House this evening by a vote of 350-80. The legislation authorizes funding for our nation's military personnel, readiness and operations, research, procurement and includes provisions that support the missions at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City and Fort Sill in Lawton, which are both located in the Fourth District of Oklahoma. Critical to the success of our military, this legislation also includes $45 billion more in authorized defense spending than President Joe Biden requested in his budget. "This NDAA reflects a strong commitment to our men and women in uniform and our national security, and I am proud that lawmakers finally came together to send this important legislation to the president's desk," said Cole. "By authorizing $858 billion for Department of Defense, military construction and energy programs, this rightly calls for the resources needed to rebuild our military might to keep pace with the unprecedented Chinese military expansion and modernization. This includes appropriately constraining the president's proposed drawdown of E-3 AWACS aircraft before its more modern replacement, the E-7, is ready, made possible by the collective work of Oklahoma's congressional delegation. To pair with this policy approach, I am also working to ensure funds are final in the fiscal year 2023 defense appropriations to accelerate the procurement and fielding of the new, upgraded platform, the E-7, to ensure a smooth and timely transition. "The funding authorized by this NDAA importantly keeps up with and counteracts the damaging impact our nation's runaway 40-year high inflation has had on military readiness, Department of Defense … | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:32:05Z |

The nomination process is highly competitive. Applicants are evaluated for academic performance and standing, including class rank, SAT/ACT scores and school records. Other criteria considered by Congressman Cole and the recommendation panel includes athletics, physical fitness, extracurricular activities, recommendations and leadership potential. Rep. Hern previously served as Chair of the RSC Budget and Spending Task Force, under the leadership of outgoing RSC Chairman Jim Banks. “I’m honored to earn the support of my colleagues to lead the largest caucus on Capitol Hill,” said Rep. Hern. “The Republican Study Committee has an important role in our new Majority: we are the conservative conscience of the Republican Conference. Chairman Jim Banks has done an incredible job the last two years, I’m thankful for his leadership preparing RSC to lead in the majority next year. The American people are overwhelmingly unhappy with the direction our country has taken under Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi. They elected a Republican Congress to stop the Biden agenda, secure the border, restore energy independence, reduce our debt, and get back to the strong economy we had under President Donald Trump. When I announced my campaign, I promised my colleagues that no one would outwork me to pass conservative policy; come January 3rd, they’ll see exactly what that means. Let’s get to work!” Chairman Jim Banks said, “Serving as the Republican Study Committee Chairman has been one of the greatest honors of my life and I could not be more proud of what we accomplished together at RSC over the last two years. For nearly fifty years, Republican Study has been the heart and soul of the conservative movement on Capitol Hill and I’m honored to have played a small part in its history. I’d like to congratulate incoming Republican Study Committee Chairman Kevin Hern and I look forward to working alongside him and the RSC over the next two critical years. Our conference must keep its promises by developing and uniting around a conservative agenda next Congress, and the RSC will be at the center of it all. It is reassuring to know our caucus in such capable hands.” Background Information The Republican Study Committee (RSC) was f… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:24:37Z |

"Today's hearing marked an important first step in understanding the legal and procedural factors surrounding the issue of seating a delegate from the Cherokee Nation in the House. I certainly welcome the examination of this question in Congress," said Cole. "The conversations started today importantly lay the groundwork for other committees of jurisdiction to study it further in the days ahead." During the committee hearing, Cole made extensive opening remarks. Transcribed remarks below and video here. We're here today for an original jurisdiction hearing examining the legal and procedural factors related to seating a delegate from the Cherokee Nation in the House of Representatives. Before I continue my remarks, I want to personally thank you, Mr. Chairman, for holding this hearing today. I am hopeful that the discussions that we have today help lay the groundwork for the other committees of jurisdiction to examine this issue in more detail. Regardless, today marks an important first step toward examining the questions and the process surrounding the seating of a delegate from the Cherokee Nation. As a member of the Chickasaw Nation and co-chair of the Congressional Native American Caucus, I have always voiced my support for the federal government to honor its treaty obligations. For far too long in our nation's history, the federal government accumulated a sorry record of making promises to tribes and then breaking those promises as soon as it was expedient to do so. Only in recent years has that record improved. With today's hearing, we begin examination of a specific promise made in the Treaty of New Echota in 1835, and I certainly welcome the examination of this question by … | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:24:37Z |

Stevens (D-MI) introduced H.R. 9125, the Safe Leave for Victims of Domestic Violence Act. The legislation would expand the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 so that employees can take unpaid leave to meet their needs related to being a victim of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, or stalking. Importantly, it would allow victims of domestic violence and sexual assault to handle their affairs without fear of losing their job. The YWCA of OKC has formally endorsed H.R. 9125. “Victims of domestic violence or sexual assault need support after experiencing such a traumatic event. Sadly, a lack of financial security often keeps victims in abusive situations. This legislation is critical in ensuring that individuals who have endured this kind of abuse can get back on their feet without fear of losing their jobs,” Rep. Stephanie Bice (OK-05) said. “I am grateful for the support of my colleagues on this bipartisan legislation.” “If you are a survivor of sexual assault or domestic violence, you deserve to take time off to seek help and heal without fear of losing your job,” said Rep. Haley Stevens (MI-11). “With an estimated 10 million adults experiencing domestic violence in the United States each year, and more experiencing sexual assault, we need to put policies in place that expand labor safeguards so that those impacted may take care of themselves and their families. I am proud to co-lead the introduction of the Safe Leave for Victims of Domestic Violence Act, which will extend FMLA leave eligibility to survivors of abuse to ensure that they don’t have to make the difficult decision between their well-being and employment.” The YWCA of OKC issued the following statement: "Research indicates that up to 99% of survivors of intimate partner violence experience financial abuse and/or economic coercion at the hand of their perpetrators. The letter comes after President Biden’s declaration that the “pandemic is over” and follows concerns raised in a June 2, 2022, memorandum by the Department of Defense Inspector General (DOD IG) on denials of religious accommodation requests for the COVID-19 vaccine. Specifically, the members are seeking answers from the Department of Defense on: 1) The timeline to end the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, or an understanding of why you plan to keep the order in place; 2) A determination on how the President’s announcement affects your determination to continue to enforce the mandate; 3) A review of the COVID-19 impacts on operational readiness for the Combatant Commands; 4) A summary review of ongoing litigation against DoD for the COVID-19 vaccine mandate; 5) An assessment of how the COVID-19 mandate is impacting recruitment and retention in the Armed Forces; 6) What consideration is being made to offer reinstatement to those servicemembers who were separated because of a refusal to take a COVID vaccine; and 7) Actions taken to address the points raised over the legitimacy of DoD’s COVID-19 religious accommodation process. | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:20:33Z |

"I was saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and a distinguished Oklahoman, former Congressman Bill Brewster of Marietta," said Cole. "Bill and I first met when we both served in the Oklahoma legislature in the late 1980s. He represented a community where part of my extended family lived. While we belonged to different parties, we quickly became fast friends, often working across the aisle as fellow conservatives supporting issues like Right-to-Work and tort reform. "Bill went on to serve three terms in Congress. He was a bipartisan conservative Democrat who often found common cause with his Republican counterparts, just as he had in the Oklahoma legislature. "In 1996, Bill retired from Congress. He was the last Democrat to represent part of the current Fourth District in Congress. He went on to become one of the most effective lobbyists in Washington, representing a variety of Oklahoma-based interests and institutions. No one was better at building the bipartisan coalitions that it takes to accomplish things in Washington, D.C. "Throughout his career, Bill was always a doer as opposed to being a complainer. He worked with both parties to advance the conservative causes and Oklahoma interests that he championed throughout his career both in and out of public service. "In all that he did, Bill's indispensable partner was his beloved wife, Suzie. They were a team in everything they did. It is impossible to think of one without thinking of the other. "Bill, Suzie and their family are very much in my thoughts and prayers. We have lost a great Oklahoman, and I have lost a dear and very special friend." ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:20:33Z |

Cole opposed the legislation. "I am disappointed that Democrats not only waited until the last minute to address expiring government funding, but they also failed to involve Republicans in the process," said Cole. "If serious negotiation had occurred and if cooperation was underway on full-year funding, there could have been more support for this measure. Indeed, there are many items included in the continuing resolution that I support. However, I remain concerned about the lack of progress on a full-year funding deal. I am hopeful that Democrats will ditch their strategy of wasting time by going it alone and get serious about fully funding the government by working across the aisle to deliver the good of the American people." Ahead of the vote earlier today, Cole also made extensive remarks explaining his opposition during rule debate on the House floor. Transcribed remarks below and video here. Madam Speaker, it's unfortunate that Congress has waited until the last minute to take up the serious work of funding the government and keeping it open. It is equally unfortunate that our only option for doing so is a flawed, inadequate bill that does not meet the needs of the American people. Despite this bill's flaws, there is much to like in it and much that I support. I voted in favor of the omnibus spending bill back in March, and this bill would maintain those spending levels through the middle of December. I support additional funding for Ukraine as they seek to defend themselves against Vladimir Putin's unjust and illegal invasion, and I support additional funds for disaster relief. But just as important as what is included in this bill is what is not included in this bill and should have been. Read below: Over the past two years and more recently, over the last few weeks, we have the seen devastating consequences of radical liberal energy policies. California, which U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm considers to be the leader in energy policy, was forced into a “Flex Alert.” This means the state called on residents to take actions to conserve energy use, including setting thermostats to 78 degrees Fahrenheit, avoiding the use of large appliances, and even calling on residents to halt charging their electric vehicles. Keep in mind that this is the same California that is seeking to ban gas-powered vehicles by the year 2035. California should serve as a warning to the nation at large. However, since the Biden administration took office, they have waged an all-out assault on the oil and gas industry. On his first day in office, Biden caved to the environmentalists in his party by canceling the Keystone XL pipeline and halting drilling on federal lands and waters. These actions led to record high gas prices and rising costs on goods and services. Even more concerning are the actions the president has taken for America’s long-term energy security and independence. During his first 18 months in office, President Biden has approved the lowest amount of leasing acreage on federal lands and waters since World War II. This crisis is of his own making, not the fault of an orchestrated invasion of Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin, as the administration claims. Following the invasion, President Biden has consistently demonized oil and gas companies, who are eagerly working to provide the energy sources on which we rely. These companies make domestic drilling decisions based on multiple variables, some including royalty rates, leasing rates per acre, refining accessibility, and gover… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:08:33Z |

"Although President Joe Biden and Democrats controlling Congress have caused numerous crises for Americans with their out-of-touch policies and out-of-control spending, House Republicans have solutions to get the country back on track," said Cole. "Our Commitment to America reflects the optimism and tried-and-true principles of freedom, hard work, personal responsibility and the rule of law that have always made our nation successful and the leader of the world. Hern has a 100% record. “I’ve lived on the other side of government policies and regulations as a small business owner for over 30 years,” said Rep. Hern. “I know what it takes to run a business – something far too few in Congress share. NFIB’s ‘Guardian of Small Business’ Award is something I’m very proud to receive. I will always support our small businesses and champion the work of job creators across America!” “The NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award is presented to Members of Congress who have proven themselves to be real champions of small business,” said NFIB President and CEO Brad Close. “This Congress, small businesses emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic but faced continual threats of high inflation, workforce shortages, and supply chain disruptions. These NFIB Guardians demonstrated strong support of small businesses on key issues. NFIB is unique in that we only represent small and independent businesses, and our members decide our policy positions. We are proud to recognize the elected officials from the 117th Congress who earned this distinction by taking pro-small business votes that supported an extension of the Paycheck Protection Program and opposed tax increases, new mandates, increased legal liability, and problematic employment law revisions that would have threatened Main Street’s economic recovery. "Only the tone-deaf Biden Administration would hold an event celebrating the passage of the laughably misnamed ‘Inflation Reduction Act' on the very day that the CPI showed a year over year inflation rate of 8.3 percent. That rate is both higher than expected and higher than last month," said Cole. "The truth is that the economic chickens are coming home to roost. Reckless Democratic spending has ignited the worst inflation in more than 40 years. Rather than putting on the brakes when it comes to government expenditures, the Biden Administration and its Democratic colleagues in Congress have used August to pass more reckless spending bills and announce their intention to forgive hundreds of billions of dollars of student debt. Both these actions will only add fuel to the raging fire of inflation. "The Biden Administration needs to reverse course immediately. More government spending will only make matters worse not better. American families are watching their purchasing power erode and their savings and investments diminish in value at a frightening rate. They can thank Joe Biden and the Democrats for mismanaging the economy and lowering their standard of living and quality of life." ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T03:08:33Z |

"Like all Americans who witnessed and endured the dreadful attacks on our nation on September 11, 2001, the overwhelming sense of pain and sorrow has never left the forefront of my mind," said Cole. Cole is the Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the U.S. Department of Education. "President Joe Biden's latest terrible idea to cancel a wide swath of federal student loan debts will ultimately harm hardworking Americans more than it will help anyone other than affluent voters in the days to come," said Cole. "Forgiving federal college loans will only add more fuel to the raging inflationary fire that is already making it difficult for Americans to pay for basic items needed to live and take care of their families. Moreover, this move will add hundreds of billions of dollars more to the national debt, erasing any supposed deficit reduction and inflation relief recently touted and claimed by Democrats in their partisan reconciliation bill. "This is an obvious giveaway meant to influence and energize younger voters on the eve of an election, and it is completely unfair to those who have repaid their debts, paid for college on their own or decided not to go to college at all to avoid debt. Sadly, by taking this action, the Biden Administration will incentivize others to go into debt believing that their debts will also be forgiven at some future date. Forgiving college debt that individuals voluntarily chose to undertake is a monumentally bad policy that will benefit the few at the expense of the many. That is exactly the opposite of what the country should be doing." Earlier this year, Cole introduced the Can't Cancel Your Own Debt Act, which would disqualify members of Congress from participating in federal programs enacted during their tenure to cancel student loans – whether established by executive order, agency action or an Act of Congress. This legislation would establish a new federal crime for knowingly misrepresenting the nature or source of DNA used in assisted reproductive procedures and other fertility treatments. This new crime sets a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and includes fines and mandatory restitution to victims. This legislation also adds the new crime as a “predicate offense” of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, providing enhanced subpoena and prosecutorial avenues in instances where there is a pattern of behavior involving multiple alleged offenses. Congresswoman Bice issued the following statement: “After watching the ‘Our Father’ documentary, I was appalled that there has been no justice for the families who have been impacted by this heartbreaking situation. This is why I introduced the Protecting Families from Fertility Fraud Act, to criminalize these horrific actions by doctors like Dr. Cline. It is imperative that we prevent these tragic situations from ever happening again and protect families from future predators. I am grateful for the support of my colleague Rep. Sherrill, and for the advocacy of the victims who suffered from these heinous acts.” Congresswoman Sherrill issued the following statement: “The rise of at-home DNA testing has uncovered the appalling practice of ‘fertility fraud,’ a heinous and intentional misconduct that is unethical and unacceptable. We must seek justice for these families. That’s why my colleague Congresswoman Bice and I are working together to protect the rights of female patients, their partners, and their children. This legislation raises taxes on corporations and American families, provides $80 billion to the IRS, and contains numerous green new deal provisions, while further hampering domestic oil and gas production. Congresswoman Bice issued the following statement: “In the midst of a recession, crushing inflation, and historic gas prices, Democrats forced a partisan bill that will increase taxes on Americans and push their far-left agenda. The so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ will do nothing to reduce inflation. Instead, it will hike taxes by $16.7 billion for those earning less than $200,000. On top of this, the bill will provide $80 billion to the IRS to fund 87,000 new agents for heavy-handed enforcement and audits targeting everyday taxpayers. That’s more employees at the IRS than the Pentagon, State Department, FBI, and Border Patrol combined. The last thing the American people need is new taxes and more failed policy. For these reasons, I strongly opposed the Democrat’s reconciliation bill.” | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:59:24Z |

The government is not about to shut down. Nothing in this bill is actually going to take effect in the immediate future. We are simply here because my friends on the other side want to create the illusion that they are doing something positive before the midterm elections. I think they also fear that the American people will actually have a chance to look at this monstrosity over a month and their own members will have to go home and give an accounting for what they have done here. Sadly, we are going to rush this through without appropriate consideration. It is worth noting, Mr. Speaker, 180 of our own members, plus, are not even here. They are not here because they have submitted a declaration because we are in a "health emergency." What health emergency? We have vaccines. We have therapeutics. The airports are full of people. People are traveling pretty easily. But 180 members won't be here. Both parties. Again, that's a sad commentary on the manner in which we're operating this House. This bill comes before us in a process that I can only describe as lousy. No committee of jurisdiction in either the Senate or the House has dealt with this bill as written. No House member has had any meaningful input in this legislation. The reality is this bill was negotiated in backrooms by two Senators and rammed through the Senate on a partisan vote. My friends have picked it up without changing it, without considering it and are going to ram it through here today. That's a process that they ought to be embarrassed by. There are two reasons to oppose the legislation itself, Mr. Speaker. The first is simply because of what is in it. The… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:59:24Z |

The Military Housing Readiness Council Act would create a council comprised of Department of Defense (DoD) officials, service members, military families, and military housing experts to ensure ongoing oversight of deficiencies in privatized military housing. The council’s mandate includes responsibility for full implementation of a tenants’ bill of rights, completion of the public complaint database, and public reporting on all its activities. “It is our duty to support those who have bravely and selflessly dedicated their lives to protecting our nation," Rep. Bice said. "I’m proud to join my colleagues in introducing the Military Housing Readiness Council Act, which will provide oversight and transparency for military housing. While conditions in privatized military housing at Tinker AFB have seen improvements in recent years, there are still a range of nationwide issues that require greater oversight including the timeliness of repairs, abatement of mold, and the timely accommodation of individuals with disabilities. We must ensure our servicemembers and their families have reliable and safe housing conditions.” “It's unconscionable that many military homes don’t meet the most basic standard of living and put the health and safety of our servicemembers and their families at risk,” Rep. Based on a similar policy enacted by the state of Oklahoma, HR 8566 imposes a 5% fee on remittances out of the United States, with the intention of penalizing illicit activity, such as drug and human smuggling. U.S. citizens who wire money out of the country are able to receive a refundable tax credit later. The funds raised through the HR 8566 will go towards U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to better protect and secure our border. “The crisis at our border gets more serious every day, while Democrats sit on their hands and ignore it,” said Rep. Hern. “Millions of Americans are in danger. We need every tool in our arsenal to combat the cartels and regain control of our border. This new remittance fee is a financial weapon we can use to target illicit activity funneling money from the US to the cartels while simultaneously supporting our agents down at the border. It’s a small step, but it brings us closer to securing the border and deterring illegal activity.” The legislation is supported by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and NumbersUSA. Statement of support from FAIR: “We applaud Congressman Kevin Hern for introducing a remittance fee bill modeled on his home state of Oklahoma, the only state in the Union that has successfully tapped into the huge outflow of money from illegal aliens. FAIR has long called for installing such a program at the federal level. WIRED takes the novel approach of assigning a 5 percent fee on remittance payments and then uses the money collected to improve border security. By imposing such a fee, it will infuse billions of dollars into our border security apparatus by charging the very people who exploited border weaknesses in the first place: illegal aliens. We encourage all members of Congress to support this important bill at a critical time.” Statement … | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:59:24Z |

The resolution instructs the Secretary of the Treasury to provide models and reports about the effect of global tax agreements on the economy; specifically, its effects on U.S. tax revenue. The full text of the resolution can be found here and below: Of inquiry directing the Secretary of the Treasury to provide certain documents in the Secretary’s possession to the House of Representatives relating to the impact of the OECD Pillar One agreement on the United States Treasury. Resolved, That the Secretary of the Treasury is directed to transmit to the House of Representatives, not later than 14 days after the adoption of this resolution, copies of any document, memo, correspondence, or other communication of the Department of Treasury in the Secretary’s possession, that refers or relates to— (1) United States Pillar One tax revenue modeling data and reports estimating the direct and indirect impact of the OECD Pillar One agreement on reallocating taxing rights from the United States to foreign jurisdictions, or (2) the economic effects of the OECD Pillar One agreement on the United States Treasury. BACKGROUND Pillar-one of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) two-pillar solution to address tax challenges arising from the digitalization of the economy is a plan to reallocate taxing rights, enabling countries to tax multinationals operating within their borders. Because the two-pillar solution implicates core Congressional revenue-raising powers, legislation is required to have domestic legal effect. Previously, Representative Kevin Hern (OK-01) led both a bipartisan letter in May and a Republican letter in January from Members of the Ways and Means Committee to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen urging her to work with Congress to protect US competitiveness and American jobs. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:59:24Z |

Cole voted against the legislation. "H.R. 1808 constitutes the greatest attack on the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners that I have seen during my time in Congress, and I vehemently oppose it," said Cole. "More importantly though, the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution does not allow Congress to take away that right. As I have said before, I believe that any effort to address gun violence must be deliberative and open and must ensure that constitutional rights are preserved for all Americans. Sadly, this bill does not meet that test and instead tramples on the rights of law-abiding Americans." In addition, during consideration of H.R. 1808 in the House Rules Committee earlier today, Cole made remarks in opposition. Video is available here and transcript below. Our fourth hearing of the week covers a deeply partisan bill, H.R. 1808, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2022. This bill constitutes the greatest attack on the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners that I have seen during my time here in Congress. Again and again this Congress, we have watched the Majority try to reduce or eliminate the rights of American citizens to purchase or own firearms. Today's measure is a direct attack on that right. Rather than protecting the rights enshrined in the Second Amendment, H.R. 1808 would ban a broad group of firearms, including some of the most popular firearms on the market today. This is a direct infringement of the Second Amendment, one that is certainly unconstitutional and one that I cannot and will not support. I will not vote to take away the right to bear arms from the 99.9 percent of gun owners who are law-abiding citizens. But more importantly, the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution does not allow Congress to take away that right. Michael Waltz (R-FL) introduced the Save America’s Valuable Energy Act. This legislation ensures that crude from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve does not flow to companies that are headquartered in countries listed under the State Department’s Defense Trade Control Country Policies List, which includes: Belarus, Burma, China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, or Venezuela. In addition, this legislation prevents the sale of crude from the SPR to entities headquartered in Russia. This comes after the U.S. Department of Energy in April of 2022 approved sales to Unipec America, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China International United Petroleum and Chemical Co, better known as UNIPEC. UNIPEC is headquartered in Beijing, China. Rep. Bice introduced the following statement: “Instead of fixing the problem and restoring American energy production, Biden has chosen to tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve for the fifth time. The SPR is supposed to be used for emergencies and major weather events, not as a bandage to stop the bleeding from his self-inflicted crisis. To make matters worse, in April, Biden sent 950,000 barrels from the SPR to China. My legislation closes this loophole and ensures that in the future, we do not send a single barrel of American crude oil to our adversaries.” | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:49:02Z |

"As a 12-year-old boy who attended OU games with my late father, I watched Leon Cross play with legendary Sooners like Joe Don Looney, Jim Grisham, Monte Deer and other memorable players of the last years of the Bud Wilkinson era. All those players were great, but they all knew that ‘the Old Rugged Cross,' as Leon was known, was greater. "Many years later, I got to know Leon Cross personally. I never met a finer man or a better representative of the University of Oklahoma and its enduring tradition of excellence on the gridiron. "Leon Cross, a 1962 All American football player and longtime OU Athletics Department employee, was an outstanding representative for all that is great about Oklahoma football. But more importantly, Leon Cross the man was an amazingly positive example of who and what we can all be if we just try. "Leon was someone I admired not just as a player, but as a person. He was a role model on how to live one's life. I will miss him very much. I extend my deepest sympathy to his family, his friends and his teammates. The U.S. economy shrank nearly 1 percent in the second quarter of this year and by 1.6 percent in the first quarter. "Although President Joe Biden continues to deny our nation has reached the point of an economic recession, he can't hide from the numbers," said Cole. "Unfortunately, instead of admitting he was wrong about inflation being temporary, he and Democrats have unveiled their second bad Build Back Better bill that will once again drive up spending. Indeed, this spending and these exact policies are what has already gotten us into this mess, and as Americans struggle to afford to feed their families and fill up their gas tanks to make it to work, this is unconscionable. "It is not lost on me that the Federal Reserve increased interest rates for a second time to try to stabilize sky-rocketing prices, but just as it was the first time, this move was too late. Our nation has already reached the point of recession and instead of focusing on policies that have already proven to cause this crisis, the president and Democrats need to get a grip on reality and work on helping the American people." ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:49:02Z |

"Although this is not a perfect bill and not the one I would have written, it is a step in the right direction toward keeping Communist China at bay and protecting our nation's economic and security interests," said Cole. "At a time when China is becoming increasingly aggressive and dangerously trying to command the world order, the CHIPS and Science Act importantly strengthens America's global competitiveness by investing in our nation's semiconductor industry and encouraging manufacturing of those critical pieces of technology domestically. We must secure our industries from foreign adversaries, and that is exactly what this legislation achieves. "This bill also authorizes substantial funding for our nation's scientific research and development enterprise to ensure American leadership in key fields such as aerospace and energy. Moreover, it prioritizes the workforce of tomorrow by investing in STEM education and workforce development programs to train Americans for new jobs in these fields, particularly in rural communities. And it includes strong provisions that would prevent federally-funded researchers from participating in foreign talent recruitment programs and requires that NSF-funded institutions disclose any financial ties to foreign adversarial countries." ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:49:02Z |

No one has worked harder on this issue, and the fact that he is willing to stand against it today is a testament to the importance of stopping Build Back Broke. America is in crisis. Even Obama's economic advisers agree that wasteful government spending is what got us into this mess. And yet, Democrats continue to push for more. We're staring down the barrel of another useless, wasteful Build Back Broke plan that will only make our problems worse. We should not pass one more bill on this floor until we see a bill that reins in government spending, lowers taxes, unleashes American energy, and gets Americans back to work. Previously, Rep. Hern introduced HR 8497, the Protecting Mental Health Services Act. The bill was included in today’s HR 4040. HR 8497 permanently extends Trump-era tele-health benefits for senior citizens, specifically relating to mental health and substance abuse treatment. When the pandemic hit, President Trump and HHS Secretary Azar removed obstacles for Medicare recipients to receive health care virtually. Those policies from the Trump Administration are set to expire at the end of the public health emergency. Simultaneously, mental health issues have been on the rise since the beginning of the public health emergency, with suicide, depression, and substance abuse impacting millions of families. Today, Rep. Hern argued in favor of his legislation on the House floor. You can watch the video here. Remarks as prepared: Madame Speaker, I rise in support of H.R. 4040, which will maintain seniors’ access to telehealth, or as I call it… virtual health. In 2020, the Trump Administration eliminated bureaucratic red tape so seniors could access health care virtually from the comfort of their homes. As a result, 52 million seniors sought their medical care virtually in 2020. I’m proud to see my bill, the Protecting Mental Health Services Act, included in this legislation to ensure seniors have virtual access to mental health and substance abuse treatment. My bill ensures all Oklahomans can access high quality care - regardless of their physical location. While this legislation is a step forward, it is unfortunate that it excludes employer-sponsored health care from the same low-cost access to telehealth. It is critical to provide folks on the job with the ability to seek flexible treatment, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass this provision at a later date. Read below: On day one of his presidency, President Joe Biden began his war on domestic energy , which has affected every part of our economy. We are facing record high inflation at 9.1%, and people are still feeling the pain at the pump. As a result of Biden’s policies, the average person will be spending over $2,000 more on gas this year while losing $3,400 in annual income due to inflation. These are the direct consequences of the administration’s decision to kill the Keystone XL pipeline, freeze oil and gas leases, slow-walk LNG export permits, and inhibit domestic energy development and financing. To make matters worse, Biden decided to travel 6,700 miles from Washington, D.C., to Saudi Arabia to beg the country to produce more oil. This comes after a year and a half of frayed relationships with the kingdom over the death of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi . Far from making things better, Biden’s attempt to cozy up to the regime has proved an embarrassment and has done nothing to ease or undo his self-inflicted energy crisis. There is no reason to rely on foreign countries when we can lower gas prices at home by increasing domestic oil and gas production. Biden should travel to states like Oklahoma and speak with the hardworking domestic energy producers, whose jobs are now at risk because of his policies. America has the ability to produce affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy, which can alleviate crushing costs, reboot our economy, and restore our energy independence, as my House Republican colleagues and I argued in a letter to Biden last week. But Biden refuses to let us do just that. He’d rather rely on an unpredictable regime to supply the oil we so desperately need. It doesn’t have to be this way. Just a few years ago, we were energy dominant. The United States was producing more oil and natural gas than any other country. We … | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:49:02Z |

"While I am always encouraged to see the appropriations process moving, the fiscal year 2023 package of bills passed in the House today is a nonstarter," said Cole. Indeed, Democrats went through this same futile exercise last year, and it didn't work then. Bice | B000740 | bice.house.gov | bice | https://bice.house.gov/media/press-releases | scraper | Washington, D.C - Inflation hit a new 40-year high at 9.1%. The average price of gasoline nationwide is $4.61. In gasoline costs alone, Americans are estimated to be paying an additional $5,000 more a year than last year. The commonsense solution to curb rising fuel costs should be to increase American domestic energy production. Instead, the Biden administration and Congressional Democrats are curtailing our production of our energy resources. In their latest move of backwards policies, the Department of the Interior's draft 5-year oil and gas lease sale plan opens up the possibility of there being no sales at all. And while his administration continues its assault on American energy production, President Biden is flying across the globe to beg Saudi Arabia for increased oil production. His policies are putting America last. To highlight this important issue and also discuss solutions to drive down U.S. energy costs, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23), Republican Whip Steve Scalise (LA-01), Ranking Member Garret Graves (LA-06), Ranking Member Bruce Westerman (AR-04), Ranking Member Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11), Rep. Stephanie Bice (OK-05), and Rep. Yvette Herrell (NM-02) held a roundtable to hear directly from American energy producers on what can be done to boost domestic production. Joining the Members were Mike Gooding, the President of San Joaquin Facilities Management, Inc; Tom Jorden, President and CEO of Coterra; Jeff Wilson, Vice President of Public and Government Affairs of Devon Energy; Joe Leimkuhler, COO of Beacon Offshore Energy; and Steve Pruett, President and CEO of Elevation Resources. They all agreed: It's critical that President Biden takes every action he can to increase domestic oil and gas production and increase our country's long-term energy production capabilities. That means reducing regulatory barriers and ending the Biden administration's war on domestic energy production. Here are the takeaways from their discussion: Leader McCarthy: "… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:49:02Z |

Wade. "I am deeply opposed to the legislation brought by House Democrats to codify and expand the misguided and unconstitutional abortion policy of Roe v. Wade," said Cole. "If enacted into law, these misguided bills would wipe from the books earlier state restrictions and require abortion on-demand nationwide at any point during a pregnancy. This is not only an outrageous attempt to strip individual states of their rights to determine such policy on their own, but it silences the voices of American voters, including thousands of Oklahomans, who cherish the sanctity of life and are opposed to abortions." While managing the rule for the consideration of the legislation, Cole made extensive remarks. Video is available here and transcript is below. Unfortunately, two other bills contained in this rule are partisan and stand no chance of becoming law. The Democratic majority is attempting to insert a right to an abortion into federal law, preempting every state law that seeks to protect life. They want to require all states to permit abortion on demand at any time up to the point of birth. They want to outlaw commonsense restrictions, like preventing late-term abortions, preventing sex-selective abortions and preventing abortions targeting fetuses with Down Syndrome. They want to prevent states from adopting commonsense protections for the unborn, such as banning mail-order or telemedicine abortion services. And they want to limit the rights of parents by creating a cause of action for outsiders to interfere with the parent-child relationship. That would be an unconscionable state of affairs, Madam Speaker. The legislation authorizes funding for our nation's military personnel, readiness and operations and includes provisions that support the missions at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City and Fort Sill in Lawton, which are both located in the Fourth District of Oklahoma. Cole supported the legislation. "For the second year in a row, the House Armed Services Committee rejected President Biden's proposed defense budget number and authorized a better, higher number to more adequately fund our national defense. If enacted, the increased funding authorized in this bill would go a long way toward ensuring that America's military is ready to confront any challenge and rightly provide our service members with the largest pay raise in history at 4.6 percent. Although there is more work ahead to arrive at a final NDAA that can reach the president's desk, I am encouraged by the House's starting position, which sends a clear message that, in this dangerous world, America is committed to providing for our national defense as well as offering our allies the support they need to protect themselves. "However, while the advancement of the NDAA in the House is promising, this bipartisan approach must also be reflected in the eventual bicameral negotiations for a final bill as well as in the appropriations process. As a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, I am committed to championing increases that reflect the funding requirements of the Department of Defense." Our subcommittee is proud to present this plan to make health care more affordable by enhancing health care options for workers and small business owners, improving innovation and transparency, and lowering costs by increasing competition.” Rep. Rick Allen (GA-12) said, “When health care decisions are made by bureaucrats in Washington, the result is a top-down, one-size-fits-all system that never works. We want all Americans to have a high-quality, affordable, and personalized approach to their health. To do that, we must remove the barriers that prevent employers from banding together to help their workers get the most out of their benefits.” Rep. Victoria Spartz (IN-05) said, “Improving health care value is a national security issue. I appreciate the work of my colleagues to develop real policy solutions and deliver results on this important issue for all Americans.” Overview of solutions: Improve workers’ ability to control and afford health care and improve small business owners’ ability to provide health insurance at a low cost and high value for employees. Promote innovation and transparency to empower patients and provide more affordable options. This legislation would increase the overall coverage and accuracy of our current National Mesonet program, which is critical in providing reliable, real-time observation capabilities for the physical environment that enhances prediction, preparedness, and response strategies to severe weather events. Specifically, this legislation will allow for more state and regional partnerships across the country, as well as expand and improve the data collected by established systems. The Mesonet serves as critical infrastructure for the agricultural and energy sectors. “The National Mesonet Program is essential in protecting property, businesses, and lives across Oklahoma and the nation. The authorization and expansion of this program will benefit weather-sensitive segments of the U.S. economy, including agriculture, defense, and energy,” Rep. Bice said. “I’m grateful for the support of my colleague, Rep. Tonko, on this vital legislation that will benefit hardworking Oklahomans and keep our communities safe.” “With extreme weather events rising in frequency and intensity due to climate change, expanding forecasting capabilities is key to protect our communities,” Rep. Tonko said. “Programs at the University at Albany in New York and others across the nation provide critical data to make accurate weather readings in real-time through the National Mesonet Program. I’m proud to join my colleague, Congresswoman Bice, to introduce legislation that will strengthen this program and ensure that accurate and potentially life-saving information is delivered to the public.” | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:49:02Z |

Cole opposed the legislation. "While this legislation contains some worthwhile provisions with bipartisan support such as funding for school security and mental health services, the bill taken in its entirety ultimately chips away at the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding firearm owners," said Cole. "Moreover, it was crafted and passed in the Senate without any input from members of the House and then rushed to the floor of our chamber without the opportunity to properly consider or amend it. I regret that we could not identify real bicameral solutions to address the root causes of gun violence. Instead, this legislation takes the entire nation down a slippery slope that will ultimately trample on the right to bear arms that is enshrined in the Constitution." During the bill's consideration in the House Rules Committee earlier today, Cole made extensive remarks explaining his position on the legislation. Transcript is available below. We're here on very short notice to consider S. 2938, which passed the Senate earlier today. Unfortunately, this measure constitutes yet another attempt by the Majority to chip away at the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. It is unfortunate that this is the case because there are certainly items included in this bill that we all could support. My constituents certainly support additional money for school security, and my constituents also support providing additional funds for mental health. But this bill goes much further than that, and ultimately, what most House Republicans cannot and will not do is support additional restrictions on the Second Amendment, which is what the package before us will actually accomplish. Again and again this Congress, we have watched the Majority try to reduce or eliminate the rights of American citizens to purchase or own firearms. Today's bill is no exception. The NDAA is the single most critical piece of legislation that comes out of the Armed Services Committee. It funds our nation’s military forces and increases our strategic competitiveness versus our near-peer adversaries. Congresswoman Bice was successful in including many provisions in the base text of the NDAA, including $30 million for Tinker’s B-21 Depot Maintenance Campus. Congresswoman Bice also effectively added 23 amendments to this legislation. These amendments include a report on how rising energy prices are impacting the Department of Defense, a study on safeguarding supply chain vulnerabilities, and protecting the E-3 wing at Tinker AFB. “I am pleased that the House Armed Services Committee passed a strong and bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act which not only fully funds our military but seeks to maintain our competitive advantage over our near-peer adversaries, including Russia and China," Congresswoman Bice said. "This year’s NDAA prioritizes Oklahoma’s Fifth Congressional District and includes $30 million for Tinker’s B-21 Depot Maintenance Campus. With increasing aggression abroad, we must reduce gaps in combat capabilities. To that end, I am relieved that this legislation seeks to limit the divestment of E-3 aircraft at Tinker AFB. Safeguarding our nation is a top priority of mine, and I am honored to work on such a critical piece of legislation.” “Rep. He also called on states to follow suit and temporarily suspend their own gas taxes. "Calling for a ‘Gas Tax Holiday' is nothing more than a desperate measure from a desperate president that creates more problems than it solves. More importantly though, it would not even translate to real savings for the American people," said Cole. "In fact, it would worsen the nation's inflationary crisis and irresponsibly increase our national deficit and debt when interest rates on government borrowing are increasing. Moreover, it would raid the already overburdened Highway Trust Fund, which is financed by the federal gas tax, and slash critical infrastructure funding that pays for desperately needed highway construction and maintenance. "President Biden already has the tools to ease the pain at the pump, but he refuses to acknowledge them. Instead, he is relying on more stunts for the appearance of action. If he truly wanted to make a difference, he could immediately reverse the disastrous energy policies he implemented on day one of his presidency and stop blaming other factors such as Putin's unprovoked attack on Ukraine and the hardworking men and women in the oil and gas industry, many of whom are in my district. This is a transparently partisan political stunt and a fundamentally bad idea." ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:39:01Z |

The FDA should be informed of any future delays – but currently, that’s not the law of the land,” said Johnson. “South Dakota was hit hard during this formula shortage – my bill allows us to be better prepared should an issue at a formula plant ever happen again.” The bill outlines a reporting requirement under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and would require: | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:39:01Z |

Instead of working with Republicans to find solutions to the current inflationary, supply chain and energy crises created by their own doing, they are once again blaming and punishing our nation's hardworking energy and agriculture producers like the thousands in the Fourth District. If they want to lower costs for the American people, they must first acknowledge and work to solve the skyrocketing prices that are directly impacting producers. During the hearing, Democrats pushed a new entitlement program, while Rep. Hern argued against creating a new programs when there are currently 92 separate programs for low-income Americans, more than 30 of which are accessible and beneficial for women and mothers. Excerpts from Rep. Hern’s remarks: There are a lot of struggling people in America. As my colleague said a minute ago, we just have a difference in the delivery of how we get to where we're needing to go. We talk about giving subsidies on childcare, but what we saw when the childcare tax credit came out in 2017 is that the increase in childcare [costs] went up enormously because now a lot of [childcare service providers] knew they were guaranteed payments. It's much like forgiving student debt... There is no incentive to ever lower the cost again. … There are ninety-two programs, federally-backed programs, that we fund every year with one-trillion dollars of taxpayer money. Now, you wouldn't believe that, I'm sure, I didn't believe that when I got here. Ninety-two. And we're wanting to add another one... I’m not hearing you all argue for a continuous hand out; you just need a hand up when times are bad… That’s what makes us great as America, that we can all get together, regardless of party, regardless of politics and theatrics and that we can help each other up. That’s what makes us special wouldn’t you agree? That’s what makes us special. But you don’t know about those [existing] programs because we don’t think that’s enough. One of the biggest battles we’ve fought in America today is who is going to be better for you: your community or the federal government here in Washington, DC... Washington, DC, [became] so powerful that you had to come up here to ask us for help; that’s not the way it’s supposed to be. We should help you, and the best place to make that happen is in your communities. Your f… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:39:01Z |

Cole voted against both. "I regret that House Democrats chose to use an emotional and highly charged situation to advance legislation that infringes on the rights of law abiding, firearm owners. Unfortunately, both partisan gun control packages passed on the floor this week are more focused on capitalizing politically than providing a real solution to a tragic problem," said Cole. "Moreover, these bills would have no practical effect on this crisis and are solely intended to politicize the Second Amendment rather than adequately address the root causes of violent crime and mass shootings. "Perhaps contrary to popular belief, Republicans have actually taken real, concrete steps to address gun violence in a way that also respects the Second Amendment such as the Fix NICS Act, which strengthened the existing National Instant Criminal Background Check System. In addition, the Trump Administration issued regulations to ban bump stocks. Republicans have also consistently supported funding to enhance mental health services across the country. Personally, I have been proud to support increased funding for the National Institute on Mental Health as well as funding for mental health block grants and mental health crisis response grants." Earlier this week, Cole made remarks during the Rules Committee's consideration of both pieces of legislation. The budget serves as a comprehensive blueprint for conservative governance and was produced by the RSC Budget and Spending Task Force. Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK) currently chairs that task force. Over the past two years, thanks to the Biden administration and House Democrats, federal spending has risen to historic levels, fueling the highest inflation in 40 years. Despite an unprecedented $30.5 trillion in national debt, the RSC’s “Blueprint to Save America,” would balance the federal budget in just seven years, cut spending by $16.6 trillion over 10 years and reduce Americans’ taxes by $3.9 trillion, while increasing investments in our military by 5%. House Democrats have failed to produce any kind of budget. RSC Budget and Spending Task Force Chair Rep. Kevin Hern said: “A fiscally responsible budget isn’t just for conservatives – it’s for all Americans. The RSC budget prioritizes smart, common-sense policy to empower workers and save our country from a debt disaster. When Washington spends less, American families have more.” RSC Chairman Rep. Jim Banks said: “The federal government has spent more at a faster rate over the past two years than at any point in history. It’s not a coincidence that Americans are worse off than they’ve been in years. Reckless spending has failed, and conservatives in Congress should take the opportunity to course correct, rein in spending and save America from a dire fiscal future. I’d like to thank the RSC Budget and Spending Task Force, its Chair Kevin Hern, and the over 80 RSC Members whose policy proposals were included in this years’ budget. Producing a plan to balance the budget gets more difficult each year and it is only possible because of their contributions.” Please find a copy of the budget here. a one-page summary of the budget here and statements of support from outside groups here. | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:39:01Z |

Res. 1153, a procedural resolution which included a provision to deem passage of H. Res. 1151, providing for budget allocations. This allowed House Democrats to bypass debate and a separate vote on a just introduced budget for fiscal year 2023. "As inflation rages and gas prices hit record high after record high, House Democrats remain deeply out of touch with the priorities of the American people. Their latest stunt? Avoiding debate altogether and an actual vote on a just introduced budget that was yet again cobbled together behind closed doors in the Speaker's office. As has been the trend with Democrats, this budget went through no committee process and lawmakers had no opportunity to amend it. In fact, under their current majority, not once have Democrats marked up a budget in the House Budget Committee. That is four years that Democrats have failed to pass a budget out of committee and bring it to the floor even though they control both. Meanwhile, they continue to propose trillions in irresponsible spending. "The American people deserve better than Democrats' abdication of their responsibility as the majority party in Congress. Speaker Nancy Pelosi has often said, ‘Show me your budget, show me your values.' Especially after a devastating pandemic and challenging economic times, the American people deserve leaders who are actually willing to thoroughly consider and plan for the future and restore fiscal sanity." ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-08T02:39:01Z |
