(December 20, 2024) - Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) and Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) today sent a letter to Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson requesting answers regarding how the Central Count was conducted on November 5th in the City of Milwaukee. Reports from the count on Election Day this year raised numerous questions and concerns. Among these were potentially unsecure voting machines, retabulated ballots, and an Election Observer at the facility being prohibited from certain areas. In response to these reports, Senator Johnson and Congressman Steil wrote to Mayor Johnson requesting greater transparency. Excerpts from the letter below: "Wisconsinites deserve to know our elections are conducted with the highest integrity, full transparency, and free from political bias. As a perennial battleground state, Wisconsin elections are always in the national spotlight, which further increases the need for transparency and integrity." Tony Wied (R-WI) released the following statement on his vote in favor of the American Relief Act of 2025. "I vocally opposed this week’s initial Continuing Resolution that would have continued Washington’s reckless spending spree and doled out billions of taxpayer dollars to unnecessary and harmful projects and programs. Fortunately, I am glad that we were able to come to a deal that will fund the government through March, support Wisconsin’s farmers, provide much needed relief to hurricane victims, and give President Trump the flexibility to implement our shared agenda next year," said Wied. “While this legislation isn’t perfect, it greatly limits the damage Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer want to continue to inflict on the American people during their last days in power. Alternatively, a government shutdown is just a taxpayer-funded paid vacation for federal bureaucrats." “I look forward to getting to work with President Trump and the House GOP in the new year to present a balanced budget that will rein in reckless government spending and finally get our national debt under control." 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z

After Elon Musk and Donald Trump blew up the deal, House Republicans cooked up a last-minute bill to appease Donald Trump’s demand to raise the debt ceiling. This provision will set the stage for Trump’s tax cuts to the wealthy and big corporations. I am old enough to remember that Republicans pushed our country to a default crisis and held our country hostage in order to raise the debt ceiling. Now it’s one of Republicans’ demands. I supported a bipartisan deal that addresses critical needs such as disaster aid funding to areas and residents who need resources to rebuild their lives and their communities. That is far from what Republicans put on the Floor. Once again, House Republicans are using political brinkmanship to legislate. I understand the gravity of a government shutdown, which is why we need a bipartisan deal.” 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T22:13:55Z

First and foremost, Congress will not be receiving a pay raise. This bill serves the general American public and our farmers very well – the government will remain open, our farmers will be able to farm, and disaster relief will be delivered to impacted states. If this bill does not pass, the government shutdown will be directly on the shoulders of the Democrat party who chose to put politics over hungry children and Americans most in need.” 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z
https://grothman.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=4400 Grothman Introduces Continuing Opportunities for People with Disabilities to Excel Act 2024-12-17 2024 2024-12 Republican House WI Glenn Grothman G000576 grothman.house.gov grothman https://grothman.house.gov/news/documentquery.aspx?DocumentTypeID=27 scraper On December 3, 2024, the DOL took action to phase out the issuance of 14(c) certificates. This rule, if finalized, would be devastating for families and CRPs around the country who rely on these certificates for functional employment opportunities. Without these certificates, individuals with disabilities could be forced into day services or worse, remain completely isolated at home. “I am proud to introduce the Continuing Opportunities for People with Disabilities to Excel Act. Under my bill, individuals with disabilities will be protected and empowered through the preservation of their right to choose the workforce program they think will best suit their needs,” said Grothman. “The rewards of being employed go far beyond just the employee, extending to the families of those with disabilities, the organizations they touch, and the entire surrounding community. Few things are more inspirational than seeing the pride of work that is evident in the men and women working in organizations like these.” Background Section 14(c), also known as Subminimum Wage or Commensurate Wage, is a provision in The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) that upon receiving a certificate from DOL, permits employers to pay an individual with a disability commensurate wage. Under 14(c), the hourly wage for an individual is based on a productivity scale. In some cases, this can actually lead to an individual making more than the minimum wage. Having a steady job and earning a paycheck is a point of pride and the main benefit from these jobs is not the size of the paycheck, it is the feeling of belonging and interaction with their peers in a safe environment. These individuals deserve the dignity that comes from feeling productive and contributing to society, just like anyone else. It is also important that, through their jobs at CRPs, they establish friendships both with individuals similar to themselves as well as the management staff - friendships that last for years. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T22:13:55Z

This legislation prioritizes the well-being of our servicemembers and their families by authorizing a historic 14.5% pay raise for junior enlisted troops and a 4.5% raise for all others. It addresses chronic issues in housing maintenance, expands access to childcare, and ensures servicemembers receive the medical and mental health care they deserve. “These enhancements underscore our nation's gratitude and commitment to improving military recruitment, retention, and readiness while ensuring our troops and their families thrive. By focusing on these critical priorities, we not only strengthen our armed forces but honor the immense sacrifices made in service to our country. “I am disappointed that House Democrats chose to walk away from a bipartisan deal to include provisions restricting certain outbound investments to China. These types of provisions are a necessary step to confront the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party.” ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T22:13:55Z

To ensure veterans have the same access, Congressman Van Orden and Congressman Landsman introduced the NOPAIN for Veterans Act, which reforms the way the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers and covers non-opioid pain management drugs. The NOPAIN for Veterans Act requires that VA list and cover all non-opioid pain management drugs under VA pharmacy benefits. It would also mandate that these drugs be included on the VA Drug Standardization List, preventing them from being substituted with alternatives. “Veterans deserve the best care possible, and that does not include getting them addicted to opioids with overly aggressive pain management treatments,” said Rep. Van Orden. “The men and women who have bravely served our nation deserve better. That is why I am proud to join Congressman Landsman in introducing the NOPAIN for Veterans Act so veterans can access safe, effective treatments that provide relief without running the risks associated with opioid prescriptions.” “By making non-opioid pain management options more affordable and available to veterans, we can take a big step in preventing addiction and substance abuse. These lists will provide safer alternatives, prioritize the health of veterans, and contribute to the overall effort of ending the opioid epidemic,” said Rep. Landsman. “Voices believes that all patients in all settings should be afforded access to all FDA-approved and clinically appropriate non-opioids. This is especially true for those who so bravely served this country in our military. We must do better by them and, when it comes to pain management, it means that they deserve access to the full suite of non-addictive pain management options,” said Chris Fox, Executive Director of Voices for Non-Opioid Choices. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T22:13:55Z

Instead of fighting the rising cost of healthcare, gas, or groceries, this Congress prioritized rewarding the wealthy and well-connected Military Industrial Complex with even more unaccountable funds. “After a seventh failed audit in a row, it’s disappointing that our amendment to hold the Pentagon accountable by penalizing the DoD’s budget by 0.5% for each failed audit was stripped out of the final bill. It’s time Congress demanded accountability from the Pentagon. Now, it’s time to prioritize the needs of our citizens over unchecked military expenditures. “While we’re glad many of the poison pill riders that were included in the House-passed version were ultimately removed from the final bill, the bill does include a ban on access to medically necessary health care for transgender children of service members, which will force service members to choose between serving their country and getting their children the care they need. The final bill also failed to expand coverage for fertility treatments, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), for service members regardless of whether their infertility is service-connected.” 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T22:13:55Z

(December 11, 2024) - Today, the House of Representatives passed legislation Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) helped lead, H.R. 8753. This bill directs the United States Postal Service (USPS) to designate single, unique ZIP Codes for certain communities. Communities in Wisconsin and across the country currently face challenges with misdirected mail, delays in emergency service response times, higher insurance rates, confusion with local taxes and tax rebates, confusion over polling places, incorrect jury summons, and other community identity issues, including negative financial impacts to local governments, landlords, and businesses. Specifically, this legislation will alleviate the unnecessary complications due to varying zip codes by directing USPS to create zip codes that align with municipal boundaries. Steil spoke on the importance of this bill on the House Floor this week. Image Click here or the image above to watch Rep. Steil discuss H.R. 8753 on the House Floor. “After hearing from residents and community leaders in Mount Pleasant, Somers, Franklin, and Caledonia about their frustrations with mail delivery mix-ups caused by outdated ZIP code boundaries, I was pleased to help lead legislation to help,” said Steil. “This commonsense legislation instructs USPS to simplify and modernize these boundaries, saving many Wisconsin residents from needless headaches. We took a step forward today to solve this issue by passing this bill in the House, and I look forward to its consideration in the Senate.” CLICK HERE to read the full bill. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T22:13:55Z

This comes after constituents expressed concerns to Rep. Tiffany about the significant refugee resettlement scheme underway. “Earlier this year, I wrote to you sharing similar concerns in connection with a planned resettlement in the Chippewa Valley. Then, like now, little if any effort appears to have been made to reach out directly to the public, or to analyze the potential strains it may place on local schools, public health infrastructure, housing availability, or social services,” Tiffany wrote. “This disturbing pattern of behavior appears designed to deliberately keep the residents most likely to be harmed out of the loop and in the dark. It also runs counter to the intent of federal laws that require coordination on these matters.” “Ms. Martinez, local communities deserve a meaningful say in the resettlement process. They deserve transparency regarding who is coming, where they are coming from, and a detailed assessment about what it might mean for their neighborhoods, classrooms, emergency services, social safety net programs, and pocketbooks,” Tiffany added. “I hope you will consider taking steps to expand the public dialogue to ensure that Wisconsinites have the final word on what happens in their towns, and that you will be forthcoming about this and other proposed resettlement plans that may be under development or consideration,” Tiffany concluded. The legislation follows a recent report by the VA’s Inspector General, which revealed that funds allocated by Congress for recruitment and retention of VA employees that assist in processing veterans’ benefits claims, were instead used to award bonuses to SES employees. The BONUS Transparency Act requires that all bonuses awarded to SES employees must be reported to Congress, including the employee’s name, job title, and annual rate of pay. Additionally, federal agencies must disclose the accounts from which the performance awards were funded. “Oversight on the use of taxpayer dollars is not optional – it is a necessity,” said Congressman Van Orden. “If this magnitude of financial misconduct can occur at the Veterans Administration, it can happen at any other federal agency, and that will not be tolerated. The BONUS Transparency Act will draw a clear line to ensure that federal agencies are held to the highest standard and any misuse of funds is fully exposed” “The VA’s inappropriate awarding of nearly $11 million to SES employees must be addressed,” said Congressman Flood. “What makes this situation even worse is that the public only became aware of this misuse of funds because of the VA’s Inspector General. This cannot happen again, which is why I’ve introduced the BONUS Transparency Act. Congress has the obligation and authority to oversee how taxpayer funds are used by federal agencies. Details to come on the date of the post office renaming ceremony. “Trooper Casper’s life was tragically cut short in 2015 as he became the youngest police officer to be killed in the line of duty in our state’s history,” said Grothman. “Renaming this post office in his honor serves as a lasting tribute to this young man who was unwavering in his commitment to keeping our streets safe. “Trooper Casper’s sacrifice should remind us all of the tremendous debt of gratitude we owe to our law enforcement officers. Let us remember Trooper Casper’s heroism and his dedication to duty, and let us honor his memory by supporting those who continue to serve and protect our great state of Wisconsin. "I am glad that this bill has been signed into law by the President and look forward to honoring Trooper Trevor Casper for his service in Kiel.” Background Information On March 24, 2015, Trevor J. During the hearing, Congressman Van Orden questioned the witness panel on the Veterans Administration’s reported budget shortfalls for fiscal year (FY) 2024 benefits and FY 2025 health care. The VA requested and received $2.88 billion from Congress to address an end-of-fiscal-year benefits funding shortfall. However, VA later revealed that this funding was not needed and remains unspent. Additionally, the VA sought $12 billion to address a projected health care budget shortfall for FY 2025, vigorously defending this request and has since reduced this request to $6.6 billion. In addition to addressing the budget shortfall, Congressman Van Orden questioned the witnesses regarding several inaccurate and fear-mongering statements published on the VA's website in 2023, which remain accessible on the site to this day. Van Orden’s questioning for Ms. Laura Duke, Chief Financial Officer for Veterans Health Administration, and Mr. Joshua Jacobs, VA Under Secretary for Benefits: Rep. You've got 171 sites and only six of them are using this so far, so you guys have blown $10 billion and six out of the 71 sites have this electronic health record, and it's my understanding that you guys blew off commercially off-the-shelf technologies to develop your own. “You couldn't seem to make it the other day to our committee hearing, Mr. Jacobs, and this is your purview, so you're getting it now. This bill honors the service and sacrifice of Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy by renaming the United States Post Office in Necedah as the Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy Post Office Building. Sergeant Murphy, a Necedah resident, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his gallantry in Vietnam, as well as a Purple Heart. “Sergeant Murphy was a true hero to our country and led his fellow service members out of a deadly trap during the Vietnam War despite being wounded twice. Renaming the Necedah Post Office in his honor ensures his legacy and service are forever etched into our community,” said Congressman Tiffany. “It was my greatest honor to serve my country alongside patriots of the 101st Airborne Div. This honor being bestowed upon me humbles me to my core. I could never have imagined it,” said Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy. H.R. 6651 would rename the U.S. Post Office located at 603 West 3rd Street in Necedah, Wisconsin, as the “Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy Post Office Building.” Sergeant Murphy was born and raised in Necedah and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On November 9, 1966, while serving as a squad leader on a search and destroy mission near Tuy Hoa, Sergeant Murphy fearlessly ran through a hail of bullets to try and help several wounded soldiers. Despite being wounded twice, including once in the head, he organized his men, led them in a fierce assault on the enemy, and enabled his men to break out of the trap and overwhelm the insurgent force. Sergeant Murphy received a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Service Cross for his service and sacrifice. He resides in Necedah to this day. The entire Wisconsin delegation is original cosponsors of H.R. 6651. Details about the renaming ceremony will be announced at a later date. Rep. Its benefits are a lifeline for millions of Americans and helps support them in their retirement. The Government Pension Offset (GPO) and Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) were created to ensure equity in the treatment of workers covered by Social Security and those with government pensions not covered by Social Security. The GPO affects Social Security spousal and survivor benefits, and the WEP affects Social Security retirement and disability benefits. I understand concerns that these provisions are hurting millions of public service retirees including teachers, firefighters, and police officers. That is why I support reforms, including Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard Neal’s proposal, the Public Servants Protection and Fairness Act that would change how Social Security benefits for public workers in noncovered employment are calculated to mitigate adverse impacts. I also support the GPO and WEP proposals in Rep. John Larson’s Social Security 2100 Act. As it came before the House, H.R. 82 would provide an outright repeal of WEP and GPO that the Congressional Budget Office has estimated would worsen Social Security’s fiscal outlook. Over the next ten years, H.R. 82 could deplete Social Security’s trust fund by $198 billion. Congress can and must provide a fix without jeopardizing Social Security earnings for those who depend on these vital benefits, including seniors, people with disabilities, and families and widows of deceased workers. I remain committed to working to a fair and prudent solution that strengthens Social Security and ensure that workers can continue to count on Social Security after a lifetime of work.” 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T22:07:06Z

Or worry about tax deadlines. That’s the last thing these Americans should have to worry about. While the IRS has the power to provide tax relief on a case-by-case basis, this legislation would shield taxpayers by postponing tax deadlines for any U.S. national held hostage or unlawfully or wrongfully detained abroad. I am pleased to support that provision. This legislation also includes a provision that would empower the Treasury Department to revoke the tax-exempt status of any nonprofit organization that the Treasury designates as a ‘terrorist supporting organization’ if they are found to provide material support or resources to a terrorist organization. I am curious as to why this measure has been attached to this noncontroversial bill since it already passed the House as a stand-alone bill (H.R. 6408) several months ago. This proposal builds on existing restrictions preventing designated terrorist organizations from benefiting from tax-exempt status. I am aware that the due process procedures and review for terrorist supporting organizations would be significantly different under this proposal than they are for existing processes to designate terrorist organizations. This has raised concerns among some that the proposal provides insufficient due process safeguards against erroneous designations and would negatively impact the work of nonprofit groups working to provide humanitarian and other relief in some of the most dangerous places in the world. That said, this proposal includes an opportunity for organizations to rebut a designation and affected organizations may seek judicial review of any final designation. And I support efforts to strengthen due process and other provisions in this bill moving forward to ensure that this proposal could not be weaponized by this or any other Administration … 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T22:07:06Z

The five-story facility will serve as an employment hub, a food production center, and a community center with a full-scale kitchen and dining area. This center will provide resources including a free health care clinic, employment tools, lead education, lead testing, housing and legal resources, literacy programs, and recovery programs for residents who are experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness. Construction of Phase One and Phase Two of first floor are completed. The third floor of the building will include an aquaponics system occupying 70% of the floor, and environmental/health education and training center within the remaining space. This legislation will amend the nation’s tax code to ensure survivors of sexual abuse and unwanted and illegal sexual contact do not have to pay taxes on settlement income when they prevail legally against their abuser. The Members have introduced this legislation during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Under current law and practice of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), payments for damages awarded on account of personal physical injuries or physical sickness are exempt from gross income for federal income tax purposes. In implementing the requirement of a “physical injury” the IRS has imposed a standard that the victim must show visible physical conditions such as bruising, cuts or bleeding for the settlement to qualify for tax-free treatment. The observable harm standard can be especially difficult to meet and unfair in circumstances of sexual assault or sexual contact where such physical injuries may not be visible or have healed. Representatives Smucker and Moore’s legislation narrowly expands current law to help survivors of sexual assault or unwanted sexual contact by tying the IRS tax exemption to the definitions of sexual act and sexual contact in federal criminal code. “Right now, sexual abuse survivors who prevail in legal actions against their abusers must pay federal tax on monetary awards they receive unless they prove to the IRS they suffered physical harm. I am honored to partner with Representatives Smucker and Meeks to remove the burdensome and unfair requirement on survivors of sexual abuse and highlight our joint work during Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” said Rep. Gwen Moore (WI-04). “This legislation provides certainty for survivors of sexual assault and ensures that monetary settlements are exempt from federal income tax. Take Whitewater, for example, where the local police department estimates nearly 800-1,000 foreign nationals have settled since just 2022. These kinds of numbers have a tremendous strain on a community whose population is just 15,000,” said Rep. Fitzgerald. “Today’s Judiciary Committee field hearing in Milwaukee allowed us members, and the public, to cut through the noise and hear directly from local experts about the difficulties this crisis has brought upon our nation’s communities. It was an important conversation, and I appreciate every single witness for sharing their unique testimony.” To watch Rep. Scott Fitzgerald's full Q&A at the field hearing click here. This change in delivery standards will have widespread negative consequences, but rural communities in particular will be most affected.” “Unfortunately, we’ve already seen that our rural communities are among the hardest hit by your cost-saving initiatives,” the Members continued. “Your plans to implement these reduced delivery standards at 180 additional processing centers over the coming months will only exacerbate the delays that our rural constituents are already experiencing, many of whom rely on the Postal Service for basic needs.” A full copy of the letter can be found here. In a letter to the administration, the members are seeking a clear plan from the Biden-Harris administration on how they will address this national crisis. Excerpts and highlights from the letter below: “As you may be aware, Baxter International’s North Cove site, located less than an hour from Asheville, North Carolina, is the largest manufacturer of IV fluids and dialysis solutions in the U.S. “According to the company, their site was “significantly impacted by the rain and storm surge” from Hurricane Helene and is temporarily closed. Baxter supplies roughly 60% of the IV fluids to hospitals in the U.S. “Our offices have heard from Wisconsin hospitals and health systems who have already begun postponing and canceling elective procedures for patients due to the impending shortage. “With more disruptions anticipated from Hurricane Milton, we ask your administration to take all available action to minimize the impact of this shortage on patient care and increase the supply of IV solutions.” CLICK HERE to read the full letter. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:57:20Z

This bill would add eyeglass lens fittings to the list of medical treatments covered by the Veterans Community Care Program, increasing access to care for millions of veterans in remote areas. “Veterans in rural Wisconsin should not have to drive hours to Tomah, Madison, or Milwaukee for a simple eyeglass fitting,” said Rep. Van Orden. “I have made a commitment to our veterans to improve their healthcare and quality of life, and that is why I am proud to join Rep. Maloy in introducing the SEE Act. This legislation is a practical step toward ensuring veterans can access the care they deserve, without unnecessary barriers.” “Veterans in rural Utah have expressed frustration about having to travel hundreds of miles just to be fitted for eyeglasses. Making this basic service more accessible is a good step towards improving healthcare for our veterans,” said Rep. Maloy. "The SEE Act is a great example of how representative government should work: finding a solution to a federal problem raised by the people we represent.” Reps. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01), and John Curtis (UT-03) are original cosponsors. “I’ve heard from many Central Oregon veterans concerned with a lack of accessible health care. Supporting community care fixes this problem by allowing them to find care in their communities without traveling to a VA facility. I’m proud to cosponsor the SEE Act, which would improve eye care options for our nation’s veterans by expanding community care coverage,” said Rep. Chavez-DeRemer. “Current VA guidelines do not cover veterans' eyeglass fittings outside of a VA facility,” said Rep. Miller-Meeks. “With a quarter of veterans living in rural areas, that is a burden for millions who served our nation. Specifically, to decrease the burden on small businesses. Instead, FTC Chair Khan used this as an opportunity to propose a rule that completely contradicted the intent of MFFMA, which would have resulted in increased burdens across all businesses, and disincentivized smaller mergers relative to larger ones. “Last week, the FTC voted unanimously to finalize the changes to premerger notification. While I remain concerned about the additional burden this rule imposes on merging parties, I commend the work by Republican Commissioners Holyoak and Ferguson to remove many of the proposed rule’s most dangerous provisions, including the collection of labor market information, which has historically not been a standard component of merger enforcement. Additionally, in finalizing the rule, the Commission also voted unanimously to lift its suspension of early termination for mergers that pose no threat to competition, something I’ve advocated for since coming to Congress. Finally, the rule leaves intact the requirement to disclose subsidies from foreign entities of concern, as required through inclusion of my bill, the Foreign Merger Subsidy Disclosure Act, in the MFFMA. This law will enable antitrust regulators to follow the money when countries like China distort markets and harm competition. “The final product, which I support, demonstrates the importance of having Republican Commissioners at the FTC to push back on Chair Khan’s radical agenda. This reintroduction comes after private equity firm Cerberus looted Steward Health Care, leaving hospitals, patients, and workers hanging out to dry. “It’s long past time for billionaires and big corporations to stop gambling with hardworking Americans’ and their communities’ assets in service of corporate greed,” said Representative Pocan. “In Wisconsin, we've seen what happens when private equity firms like Sun Capital raid companies for their wealth and leave workers and communities to pick up the pieces. When Sun Capital took over Shopko – a Wisconsin-based retail chain that had stood strong for more than 50 years – they drained it dry, buried it in debt, pushed it into bankruptcy, and abandoned roughly 14,000 workers. This bill will finally hold these predatory firms accountable and protect workers from being plundered by corporate greed." “From health care to housing, millions of Americans are seeing private equity take over companies with the promise of improving services, only to strip them for parts and hurt both workers and working families,” said Congresswoman Jayapal. “It’s time for Congress to take action to protect Americans from the dangers of private equity and corporate greed, and that’s exactly what our Stop Wall Street Looting Act will do. Gwen Moore (WI-04) and Rep. Debbie Dingell (MI-06) are re-introducing a resolution recognizing the intersection of gun violence, misogyny, and violence against women. “Intimate partner violence and domestic violence homicides are at alarming levels in Milwaukee, and this scourge is taking away loved ones and hurting our community. Nationwide, every 12 hours, someone is fatally shot by an intimate partner. That’s unacceptable when stronger gun safety laws can help prevent these tragedies. This resolution draws needed attention to the issue of gender-based violence and the forces driving it,” said Rep. Moore. “People with a history of domestic violence shouldn’t have access to guns – period. The evidence is clear and convincing that the presence of a firearm in an abusive situation makes homicide five times more likely,” said Rep. Dingell. “Congress must act to close loopholes in the law that allow abusers to access guns and put women and families in danger. We must also confront the root causes of domestic violence, understanding the way individuals who exhibit misogynistic tendencies toward women often go on to commit violence against them.” According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, more than 1 in 3 women have experienced some form of intimate partner violence, including sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking. Intimate partner violence is the leading cause of fatalities among women. Nearly half of all female homicide victims between 2003 and 2014 were killed by intimate partners, according to a 2017 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. This resolution calls for further legislation to prevent abusers from having access to guns and encourages further research into the intersection of gun violence, misogyny, and violence against women. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:57:20Z

This year alone, Milwaukee received $30 million in federal funds to replace 3,400 lead service lines. During his visit, President Biden announced an Environmental Protect Agency (EPA) update to the Lead and Copper rule which would call for affected entities to replace all lead pipes in 10 years. In addition, the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced more than $416 million in grants to protect children from lead exposure through paint and other home hazards, including $7.5 million for Milwaukee County to address lead and other hazards in 142 housing units. In response, she released the following statement: “Every child should have access to clean drinking water and a safe lead-free home in which to grow and thrive. Unfortunately for too many children in Milwaukee and elsewhere nationwide, that is not the case and too many remain exposed to lead which can lead to lifelong adverse impacts. I thank the Administration for its focus since Day One on the threat lead poses to our children, including fighting to secure the first pool of funding to address lead pipes in the BIL. President Biden helped make sure that funding for state and local governments in the American Rescue Plan Act could explicitly be used for lead pipe replacement. At its current pace, it would take the city of Milwaukee an estimated 70 years to remove every lead pipe. With additional federal resources, we can accelerate these efforts. I also applaud the Biden-Harris administration’s new Lead and Copper rule, which calls for municipalities to identify and remove every lead pipe in the next decade, a request that my Congressional colleagues and I have been pushing for. I stand with those whose loved ones are still being held hostage and the millions more in the region who continue to experience fear, anxiety, and uncertainty every day. The region today is neither more safe, secure, nor stable for anyone. Not only has the trauma of that day subsided, but continuing violent escalation only means greater insecurity for Israelis, Palestinians, and now the Lebanese and others in the region. Worse, there appears to be no off ramp to ever increasing violent escalation. Long-term political stability and peace are the only way to achieve security for both Israelis and Palestinians and to prevent this conflict from further escalating into a broader war that would cost more innocent lives and put millions more under threat. That is why I continue to support diplomatic efforts being spearheaded by the Biden Administration to not only reach a ceasefire and hostage release deal, but also work to find a durable solution along the Israel-Lebanon border that ends the escalation and finally allows people on both sides of that border to do what they so desperately want - to safely return home. This letter comes after the USPS announced on August 22, 2024, that they will be adjusting mail delivery times, resulting in added delays for Americans in rural communities that are more than 50 miles from a USPS processing center – many of whom are already experiencing delays. In the letter, the bipartisan group of members asks the Postmaster General to reconsider going forward with this plan. “My office has been hearing from numerous newspapers and residents across the Seventh District who are being negatively affected by significant delays in mail delivery,” said Congressman Tiffany. “The Iron County Miner, for example, has seen delays stretching into weeks, and in some cases, newspapers are not delivered at all, according to a constituent’s report. I’ve also been in touch with the Vilas County News-Review and readers of the Lakeland Times, all of whom are also experiencing frustrating delivery delays.” “The implementation of the Delivering for America Plan has led to reduced services and harmed postal performance, especially in rural areas. Veterans, seniors, and many rural Wisconsinites depend on the USPS, and it’s clear that changes need to be made,” Tiffany concluded. The resolution sheds light on the collateral consequences youth face when they are treated as adults in the criminal justice system and encourages the Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to prioritize rehabilitation and support over wasteful incarceration. Earlier this week, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) introduced a companion resolution in the U.S. Senate. “Youth Justice Action Month is an opportunity to lift up and call for juvenile justice reforms that help young people grow, develop, and become their best selves,” said Congresswoman Moore. “This resolution reaffirms this as a key priority, which will benefit all our communities.” “For over 20 years, I have worked alongside my colleagues, experts, practitioners, advocates, and individuals to fight on behalf of youth in marginalized communities who are far too often pushed into our country’s mass incarceration system,” said Congressman Cárdenas. “That’s why I’m proud to introduce this resolution and shine a light on a youth justice system that too often prioritizes punitive incarceration over rehabilitation. Our youth deserve much better and we can do better by them. Additionally, Rep. Tiffany requested an independent, third-party investigation into the matter to ensure public transparency and accountability for those responsible. In the letter, Tiffany cited numerous examples of the Clerk’s Office saying one thing, only to subsequently revise those statements or scrub the information from their website later. Those revisions included claims about the number of wards impacted, how many duplicate ballots were distributed, the location of barcodes, and efforts to inform voters of the mistakes. “I am also skeptical of your office’s claim regarding the retention of emails, text messages, handwritten notes, and other records related to this incident given that the Clerk’s office has repeatedly revised its website to scrub or edit its initial statements after those initial statements were shown to be demonstrably false. These after-the-fact changes indicate an intent to attempt to sanitize the record, not preserve it,” Tiffany said in the letter. Tiffany added, “If you are truly committed to transparency, I hope you will reconsider your opposition to an independent inquiry, make all related records public, and move quickly to hold those responsible to account, and to do so before – not after – the election.” You can read a full copy of the letter here. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:43:57Z

Fitzgerald (WI-05). “This bill will protect our communities by defining bail bonds as insurance products and by bringing charitable bail funds under state insurance regulation. These changes will add a much-needed layer of transparency and accountability to bail funds, that up until now, have been operating in the shadows without oversight. I was grateful to see my bill pass this week—and I look forward to seeing it make its way through the Senate next.” Background: Groups like the Bail Project and Minnesota Freedom Fund aggressively solicit funds to pay bail with little regard to the criminal histories of those they’re putting back on the streets. The Minnesota Freedom Fund paid the bail for notable offenders including George Howard, a man charged with domestic abuse who two weeks after having his bail paid, was charged with second-degree murder in a road rage incident. A 2023 analysis by CNN found that at least 65 defendants who were bailed out by the Minnesota Freedom Fund “were awaiting trial on felony charges involving violence, physical threats, or sex crimes. All were convicted.” ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:43:57Z

Today is the one-year anniversary of the day I was permitted to review the security footage from that evening, and I am reminded of how disturbed I was by Van Orden’s behavior. As you are no doubt aware, initial reports of the incident stated that the Senate pages were in the Rotunda that evening to take pictures during their last week at the Capitol, and while there, some of the teenagers positioned themselves and their camera on the floor in order to capture a photo of the interior of the historic Capitol dome. The vast reporting stated that when Van Orden came across the teenagers, who spent their summer providing vital support to daily operations at the Capitol, he “became enraged” and swore at the pages, calling them “lazy s----” and telling them to “get the f--- up” off the floor. When given the opportunity to apologize, Van Orden refused and claimed the pages were “defiling” the Capitol, an interesting choice of words for a man who stood shoulder to shoulder with insurrectionists outside the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Further reporting revealed that a witness to the incident described Van Orden’s demeanor as “physically aggressive” toward the teenagers and that he was “screaming inches from the pages’ faces.” After reviewing the footage exactly one year ago today, I found Van Orden’s behavior entirely unbecoming of a member of Congress. It sounds like it will be the end of elections. I myself have run into people who believe this nonsense. Mainstream media outlets also report this rubbish. It is not surprising that some people have resorted to assassination in response to such heated rhetoric. “This is particularly bizarre because Donald Trump has already been president, and we know what he is like. He will increase domestic energy output, keep corporate tax rates competitive with other countries, and avoid unnecessary foreign wars. He did not try to turn the U.S. into a dictatorship, and I don’t know how one would even begin to do that. By the way, this is the same unhinged rhetoric that caused Congressman Steve Scalise to be subject to an assassination attempt in 2017. “I call upon all leading Democrat mouthpieces, ABC, NBC, CNN, to publicly state that Donald Trump is not a threat to democracy—and clarify what they meant by their statements.” -30- 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:43:57Z

On the call, DWC Outreach Co-Chair Debbie Dingell (MI-06), Member Services Co-Chair Melanie Stansbury (NM-01), and Communications Co-Chairs Gwen Moore (WI-04) and Shontel Brown (OH-11) spoke about the progress made through VAWA thus far, and the work that remains to protect women and girls from gender-based violence. Wendy Chun-Hoon, Director of the Women’s Bureau at the Department of Labor, also spoke about the Fostering Access, Rights, and Equity (FARE) grant initiative at the Women’s Bureau, the first DOL grant program dedicated solely to supporting community-based organizations’ efforts to prevent and respond to gender-based violence and harassment at work. "We have so much more to do. It was very distressing to me to see us backslide during COVID, which demonstrates the vulnerabilities that women face. We had governors telling women to stay home where it’s safe, but home was not a safe place,” said Communications Co-Chair Rep. Gwen Moore (WI-04). “It is really important that we shore up the Crime Victims Fund so that our communities can be prepared when we see these upticks and we can build on the progress of VAWA until we rid our nation of gender-based violence once and for all.” We have to make sure that communities have the tools to not only react to violence, but to proactively address the root causes and understand its enduring consequences, said DWC Outreach Co-Chair Rep. The bill closes an existing loophole in federal law and amends Chapter 111 of Title 28 of the United States Code to ensure that U.S. persons are protected from lawsuits that result from good faith compliance with U.S. sanctions and export controls. “Following Putin’s invasion into Ukraine, Russia has waged an aggressive campaign against American companies that withdrew their services from the country to comply with U.S. imposed sanctions designed to weaken the regime. Russian courts have wrongly awarded large claims against these companies, and Russian litigants have used these decisions as evidence to sue in U.S. Federal courts. This is wrong. Wisconsin businesses who distribute internationally should not be punished for good-faith compliance with U.S. sanctions. That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor the Protecting Americans from Russian Litigation Act, which will amend U.S. Code to shield U.S. persons from frivolous lawsuits for good faith compliance with U.S. sanctions and export controls,” said Rep. Fitzgerald. BACKGROUND: In response to Russia’s February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the U.S. government imposed sanctions and export controls on Russia. To comply with these measures, U.S. companies wound down operations and ceased work in Russia. As a result, U.S. companies have been targeted by Russian litigants seeking damages and being awarded large and inflated claims by Russian courts against U.S. companies. These subjective decisions are then used as the basis for Russian litigants to seek significant damages under U.S. law – essentially functioning as a countersanction for Russia. American companies shouldn’t be punished for simply complying with U.S. sanctions and export controls. The Protecting American Businesses from RussianLitigation Act of 2024 will protect American companies and their interests so that t… 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:43:57Z

Under the law Rep. Steil sponsored, the End Financing for Hamas and State Sponsors of Terrorism Act, the Treasury Department is required to provide a report by October 21, 2024. However, recent events in the Middle East underscore the urgency of identifying the sources of financing to Hamas and taking clear and decisive steps to disrupt their illicit financial flows and their ability to finance armed hostilities. Below are excerpts and highlights from the letter: “Hamas terrorists continue to hold captives in tunnels and hideouts across Gaza. Recently, Hamas viciously murdered Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an American citizen, and five other hostages, as Israeli forces closed in on their location. This recent act of violence has made it abundantly clear that we need to do more to put pressure on Hamas and its sponsors to get hostages home and put an end to these atrocities. Hamas and other terrorist groups in the region must understand that they cannot murder Americans and other innocent civilians with impunity. “It is critical that we use every single tool at our disposal to hold Hamas accountable for their barbaric acts and force them to release the rest of the hostages and put an end to this perpetual terrorist threat. I again urge you to expedite the publication of the required report and take immediate steps to cut off Hamas’s funding networks.” CLICK HERE to read the full letter. Tiffany T000165 tiffany.house.gov tiffany https://tiffany.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Tom Tiffany’s (WI-07) legislation – the No WHO Pandemic Preparedness Treaty Without Senate Approval Act – passed the U.S. House by a bipartisan vote of 219-199. This legislation would require any convention or agreement resulting from the work of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) intergovernmental negotiating body to be deemed a treaty, thus requiring the advice and consent of a supermajority of the Senate. After the WHO mismanaged the pandemic, which included ignoring early warnings from Taiwan about the outbreak of COVID-19 and reinforcing lies from the Communist Chinese Party that there was “no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission,” Americans remain skeptical of continuing infringements on personal liberties and freedoms. The legislation seeks to increase transparency in WHO agreements and provide a constitutional check on the Biden-Harris administration. "It’s deeply concerning that the Biden-Harris administration would even consider signing the World Health Organization’s pandemic treaty. We cannot stand by as they attempt to surrender control of our public health system to unelected bureaucrats at the WHO and the UN. This legislation is essential to protecting our nation’s sovereignty and ensuring that the safety of American citizens remains in the hands of the U.S., not a corrupt international organization,” said Congressman Tiffany. While the WHO failed to finalize their pandemic global treaty earlier this year, scandal-plagued WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated, “We will try everything — believing that anything is possible — and make this happen because the world still needs a pandemic treaty.” 59 Members of Congress cosponsored Rep. Tiffany’s No WHO Pandemic Preparedness Treaty Without Senate Approval Act. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) has introduced identical legislation in the Senate, and every Republican senator is a cosponsor. The SHIELD Act would prohibit political committees from accepting contributions from debit or credit cards without the disclosure of the card verification value (CVV) and billing address associated with the card. The legislation would also prohibit the acceptance of contributions from gift cards, pre-paid credit or debit cards, or gift certificates. Finally, the SHIELD Act will prohibit aiding and abetting making a contribution in another person's name. "American elections should always be free from foreign interference," said Steil. "The SHIELD Act will take a crucial next step in blocking foreign funding in our elections and certifying that every political contribution received is actually coming from the individual whose name is on the contribution. By passing the SHIELD Act, we will increase integrity and American trust in our elections." Background: The SHIELD Act comes as reports indicate major Democrat fundraising platform ActBlue was accepting political contributions without requiring a CVV. There were also reports of ActBlue accepting contributions from prepaid gift cards, debit cards and credit cards, which are susceptible to illegal straw donations. On September 20, 2023, Rep. Tom Tiffany (WI-07) and Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) sent a letter to Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett demanding answers on Alejandro Jose Coronel Zarate, a Venezuelan migrant who is not a U.S. Citizen according to the Prairie du Chien Police Department. Mr. Coronel Zarate was recently charged and arrested with domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and strangulation by the Prairie du Chien Police Department. However, he reportedly already had active warrants in Dane County for similar offenses, including false imprisonment and battery. Given that Dane County was classified as “non-cooperative” with federal immigration authorities as recently as June of this year by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Reps. Tiffany and Van Orden wrote to ask for additional information regarding Dane County law enforcement’s interaction with Mr. Coronel Zarate. The lawmakers asked the following questions: Does Dane County still maintain a “non-cooperation” policy, or any other policy that in any way limits or restricts communication or coordination with ICE? Prior to the incident in Prairie du Chien, was Mr. Coronel Zarate ever arrested or detained by Dane County law enforcement? If so, did Dane County ever notify ICE officials that Mr. Coronel Zarate was in custody? Did your agency, at any time, receive an immigration detainer request from ICE officials regarding Mr. Coronel Zarate? If so, did Dane County honor that detainer and attempt to turn Mr. Coronel Zarate over to ICE? “These reckless and misguided “revolving door” policies are not only illegal, they also needlessly put other American communities at risk by allowing dangerous criminal aliens back out onto the streets to create new victims rather than remanding them to ICE for detention and removal. We hope that did not happen in this case,”said Reps. Tiffany and Van Orden. You can read the full letter here. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:43:57Z

American consumers should also know if what they buy is domestically or internationally produced,” said Congressman Van Orden. “I am proud to introduce the American CANS Act with Rep. Harder to require a country-of-origin label on cans, which supports our domestic farmers and ensures transparency for consumers.” “The Central Valley is the fruit and nut basket of the world, but our grocery store shelves are filled with peaches, tomatoes, and other canned goods grown 7,000 miles away,” said Congressman Harder. “I want my daughters to eat local, healthy produce but right now you need a microscope to figure out where it was grown. That makes no sense. This bill will ensure we know exactly what we’re eating and where it’s from.” “On behalf of the U.S. metal food can manufacturers, we applaud Rep. Josh Harder and Rep. Derrick Van Orden for introducing the American Consumer Awareness of National Source (American CANS) Act, which will provide clear and consistent labeling on the country in which each canned food product was picked and packed,” said Robert Budway, President of Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI). “Ensuring that imported canned foods are properly labeled will empower American consumers to easily distinguish between products made in America and those packaged i… 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:36:13Z

These existing and future assets ensure that the 128th ARW remains on the leading edge of aerial refueling operations in support of critical missions domestically and abroad. “The 128th ARW also has a myriad of modern amenities like an Alert Facility, Small Air Terminal, and a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, which are crucial for maintaining operational readiness and providing top-tier support to our service members,” the lawmakers wrote. The lawmakers continued, “Upgrading the 128th to include the KC-46 enjoys overwhelming support from community leaders and local officials. This widespread support underscores the unit's integral role in the community and the significant benefits that the new aircraft would bring to the region.” “The Wisconsin Air National Guard and the 128th ARW have a long and distinguished history of serving both the people of Wisconsin and the United States with excellence. The men and women of this Wing fully embrace the importance of the KC-46’s role in modernizing the Air Force’s tanker fleet and are prepared to take on this mission. We firmly believe that the strategic location, operational capabilities, and community support merits your support for hosting the new KC-46 aircraft at the 128th ARW,” the lawmakers concluded. The bill, H.R. 7199, designates the facility of the United States Postal Service located at S74w16860 Janesville Road, in Muskego, Wisconsin, as the “Colonel Hans Christian Heg Post Office.” Colonel Hans Christian Heg was a staunch abolitionist who was the highest-ranking Union casualty from Wisconsin in the Civil War. “I commend my Senate colleagues on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, including Senator Ron Johnson, for passing my bill today that honors a Wisconsin hero and American patriot, Colonel Hans Christian Heg. Colonel Heg served honorably as both a Colonel of the 15th Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War and as a staunch abolitionist,” said Rep. Fitzgerald (WI-05). “This bill ensures that Colonel Heg’s legacy remains an enduring one in Wisconsin for generations to come. I look forward to seeing this bill swiftly passed on the Senate floor and signed into law.” BACKGROUND: In 1840, Colonel Hans Christian Heg immigrated to Wisconsin from Norway at just ten years old and his family settled in Muskego. Mr. Heg was eventually appointed Colonel of the 15th Wisconsin Infantry, and he and his men went on to win a major battle for control of the Mississippi River at Island No. 10 during the Civil War and they were given the honor of raising the flag by battle commander Flag Officer Andrew Foote. On September 20, 1863, at the battle of Chickamauga in Georgia, the 33-year-old Colonel was shot and Killed In Action while serving the Union. After the war, veterans raised funds to erect a cannonball pyramid at Chickamauga National Military Park dedicated to Colonel Hans Christian Heg. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:24:45Z

Title IV-B supports funding for child welfare programs through states, territories and tribes that work to protect the health and wellbeing of children and prevent abuse and neglect. As Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth, she secured critical enhancements to Title IV-B. In response, she released the following statement: HR 7906, the Strengthening State and Tribal Support Act would amend Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code to allow Indian tribes that operate child support services programs to access limited tax information for the purpose of child support collection and would also allow state and tribal contractors to access the data. “Child support payments are critical to child well-being and development. They also help contribute to fighting child poverty and keeping both parents engaged in supporting their child. Over four million parents received child support in the form of cash payments in 2021. In FY2022, the Child Support Services program collected $26.3 billion in child support in support of families and served more than 12.3 million child support cases. But just because you are awarded child support, doesn’t necessarily mean you end up getting it. About 7 in 10 custodial parents (69.8 percent) who were supposed to receive child support in 2017 received at least some payments. This legislation will redesignate the Apostle Islands from a National Lakeshore to a National Park. Tomorrow, the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Federal Lands will hold a hearing on this legislation. You can view that hearing here. “The Apostle Islands are one of Wisconsin’s true crown jewels and deserve to be recognized as the state’s first National Park. This prestigious designation would not only strengthen conservation efforts, bolster the local economy, and create new job opportunities, but would also ensure lasting environmental and economic security to our region for generations to come,” said Rep. Tiffany. Background: The Apostle Islands, established as a National Lakeshore in 1970, have long stood as Wisconsin's leading public land destination. Specifically, this legislation would elevate the current National Lakeshore as a National Park without altering its existing boundaries. The Apostle Islands National Park and Preserve Act would also designate Sand Island as a National Preserve to maintain existing hunting access. You can view a map of that here. Fishing and other recreational activities will be protected and will be managed consistently throughout the National Park and Preserve. This would not be the first time a National Lakeshore became a National Park. In 2019, Indiana Dunes, once a National Lakeshore, was designated as a National Park. While our neighboring states of Minnesota, Michigan, and Indiana all enjoy National Parks, Wisconsin does not yet have one, and the iconic features of these unique islands are deserving of this long-overdue recognition. Tiffany T000165 tiffany.house.gov tiffany https://tiffany.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper WAUSAU, WI – Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07) released the following statement after the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned its own ruling that barred ballot drop boxes. “Just after Wisconsinites voted overwhelmingly to bolster election integrity in the state, the liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court voted to overturn a previous precedent they set, effectively legalizing anonymous ballot box stuffing. This decision not only opens the door to potentially fraudulent activities but also undermines the expressed desires of Wisconsin voters.” 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:24:45Z

Throughout this session they have fundamentally shifted the bedrock of our democracy. The self-proclaimed ‘constitutional textualists’ seem to have conveniently ignored the one place in the Constitution that does address, where a president may be subject to criminal prosecution from the same conduct that resulted or could have resulted in an impeachment: Article I, Sec 3, Clause 7 Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law. “This decision is an abdication of the responsibility given to a Supreme Court justice. Americans went to sleep in the Republic our Founders gave us and woke up in a Kingdom imposed by the pen of six MAGA Supreme Court justices.” 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:24:45Z
