| https://carson.house.gov/newsroom/press-releases/rep-carson-votes-for-latest-covid-19-relief-bill-demands-further-action-for | Rep. Carson Votes for Latest COVID-19 Relief Bill, Demands Further Action for Hoosiers and Americans | 2020-12-21 | 2020 | 2020-12 | Democrat | Senate | IN | André Carson | C001072 | carson.house.gov | legacy | Washington, DC Today, Congressman Andr Carson (IN-07) voted in support of the latest COVID-19 relief and omnibus package, which passed the House of Representatives. This bill delivers urgently needed funds to help save Hoosier lives and livelihoods as Indiana and the entire nation battle the deadliest wave yet of COVID-19. The bill also includes Rep. Carson's amendment to increase funding for Pancreatic Cancer research at the Department of Defense (DoD) to $15 million dollars. This increased funding will help researchers find ways to detect and treat this deadly disease earlier and help save lives. The bill includes a number of key provisions, including an additional round of direct payments to Americans, rental housing assistance, expanded nutrition assistance, plus additional funding for small and minority-owned businesses, including more Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funds. The bill funds critical transportation and infrastructure priorities, including $14 billion for transit to help front line workers get to work, and more funding for passenger rail and aviation workers. This legislation also provides billions of dollars to support the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines. Still, Rep. Carson stressed that much more must be done, and called on his Congressional colleagues to put partisanship aside to expedite help to those in need. I am encouraged that the House has passed this vital piece of legislation to protect lives and livelihoods. I'm particularly pleased that it includes my amendment to increase federal funding for Pancreatic Cancer research at DoD. However, the truth is, it should not have taken Congress this long to get an additional relief bill passed. The House passed a strong COVID-19 relief bill months ago called the Heroes Act, but Leader McConnell refused to bring it up for a vote in the Senate. Additionally, in this current bill, Democratic leaders fought hard to eliminate dangerous poison pills, including a GOP provisionthat could unjustly put the health of workers at risk and take away… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | ||

Carson Statement on Political and Humanitarian Crisis in Ethiopia | 2020-11-19 | 2020 | 2020-11 | Democrat | Senate | IN | André Carson | C001072 | carson.house.gov | legacy | Washington, DC -- Congressman Andr Carson, the most senior Muslim Member of the United States Congress, released the following statement calling for a peaceful end to the growing political violence in Ethiopia: "I am extremelyconcerned withthe escalating conflict in Ethiopia, driven by the growing discord and violence between the government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Tigray People's Liberation Front. Democracy is fragile in every nation, but particularly so in Ethiopia. The current unrest threatens not only the stability of this nation, but the entire Horn of Africa. The international community, as well as the Trump Administrationand Congress, must do everything inourpower to condemn the reported atrocities that have been committed, prevent future violence, and ensure a peaceful and productive dialogue between all involved in this conflict. "Securing a peaceful transfer of powerin Ethiopia, alarge, diverse and dynamic nation, will prove that Democracy and stability can be achieved in every nation.Ethiopia's ancient and rich history has inspired generations working for independence and the right to govern themselves. The Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to an Ethiopian generated great hope for democratic progress for this proud nation. But awards must be followed by actions that abide by rule of law and protect the rights of all citizens, including the majority and the minority. My heart goes out to theEthiopianswho are caught in the middle of this dangerous and violent conflict.I urge Americans and concerned peoplearound the world to callon Ethiopian leaderstocommit to peacenow. If these leaders fail to make this commitment, they risk harming and betraying the very people they claim to represent and protect." | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | ||

| https://carson.house.gov/newsroom/press-releases/rep-carson-introduces-bill-to-provide-additional-debt-relief-for-small | Rep. Carson Introduces Bill to Provide Additional Debt Relief for Small Businesses Harmed by COVID-19 | 2020-10-29 | 2020 | 2020-10 | Democrat | Senate | IN | André Carson | C001072 | carson.house.gov | legacy | Washington, DC Congressman Andr Carson (IN-07) has introduced a billto provide additional relief for small businesses harmed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. H.R.8686, theSmall Business Debt Relief Extension Act, introduced this week, offers additional debt relief on SBA 7(a), 504, and microloans that were received as part of the CARES Act. The CARES Act's small business debt relief provision expired last month, making it imperative that Rep. Carson's bill is passed as soon as possible. This billensures that the entirety of the $17,000,000,000 appropriated to this loan program in the CARES Act be used for its intended purpose. The bill accomplishes this in two ways: 1. Businesses who are currently receiving, or have received, the subsidy be granted a 6-month extension for a total of 12 months of debt relief. 2. Businesses who do not currently have an SBA loan and that apply by March 30, 2021, can receive a 6-month subsidy. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, I have heard from many Hoosier small business owners how vital the relief from the CARES Act has been for the survival of their businesses, Rep. Carson said. However, as our nation suffers a new, dramatic surge in COVID-19 cases, it's clear that more must be done to protect these lifelines of our economy. Small businesses remain at greatest risk during this pandemic, and my legislation will help them get through what is shaping up to be a particularly bleak winter. I urge Congress to pass this necessary measure as soon as possible. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | ||
| https://carson.house.gov/newsroom/press-releases/reps-carson-eshoo-and-senator-whitehouse-introduce-bicameral-resolution-to | Reps. Carson, Eshoo and Senator Whitehouse Introduce Bicameral Resolution to Raise Pancreatic Cancer Awareness and Support Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month for November 2020 | 2020-10-27 | 2020 | 2020-10 | Democrat | Senate | IN | André Carson | C001072 | carson.house.gov | legacy | Washington, DC Representatives Andr Carson (IN-07) and Anna Eshoo (CA- 18), introduced a resolution today to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer and to support the designation of this November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) also introduced a companion resolution in the Senate. This effort comes as the world continues to mourn the deaths of several iconic Americans from this very aggressive cancer, including Congressman John Lewis and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Reps Carson and Eshoo, and Senator Whitehouse, hope that this effort will raise awareness for pancreatic cancer, result in greater research funding support from Congress, and ultimately help save lives. Accurately described as a silent killer, pancreatic cancer still does not have an early detection test. As a result, by year's end, pancreatic cancer will have killed an estimated 47,050 Americans and is the third largest cause of cancer-related death in our county. As COVID-19 continues to rob us of more than 220,000 of our fellow Americans, pancreatic cancer continues to devastate thousands of American families and communities. An additional 57,600 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year. This resolution helps to raise awareness for pancreatic cancer by accomplishing three things: Supports the designation of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month Recognizes the critical importance of increasing funding for pancreatic cancer research at the Department of Defense (DoD) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to find early detection tests and effective treatments to combat this disease and reduce the disproportionate impact on communities of color. Supports the efforts of the many advocacy organizations to educate our communities about pancreatic cancer and the need for more research funding, early detection initiatives, diagnostic tests, and effective treatments. I am honored to partner with my colleague, Rep. Eshoo in the House, and Senator Whitehouse in the Senate, to hel… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | ||
| https://carson.house.gov/newsroom/press-releases/rep-carson-introduces-legislation-to-increase-education-access-and-quality | Rep. Carson Introduces Legislation to Increase Education Access and Quality, Support Students and Teachers | 2020-10-14 | 2020 | 2020-10 | Democrat | Senate | IN | André Carson | C001072 | carson.house.gov | legacy | Washington, DC Congressman Andr Carson (IN-07) recently introduced two new bills to improve American education that support students and teachers alike. TheStudents Helping Young Students Act(H.R. 8550) will invest in college students who support and mentor K-12 students in after school activities. Currently, after school activities are not considered a community service under the Federal Work-Study program. Rep. Carson's bill changes this by allowing college students to access Federal Work-Study funds for their participation in after school activities. Moreover, this legislation requires eligible schools to allocate federal funds to students who want to work with after-school programs. Through these changes, students who want to serve their community can be compensated for their important work, and the younger students will benefit from this mentorship, which has been shown to dramatically improve one's educational achievements. This legislation has been endorsed by MENTOR: the National Mentoring Partnership. The second bill, theInterstate Teaching Mobility Act(H.R. 8551)willcreate a new voluntary program at the Department of Education (DOE) to allow licensed teachers to use their licenses across state lines. Currently, there is a troubling shortage of teachers in America that is partially caused by inconsistent and often cumbersome state-by-state certification and assessment requirements. These obstacles prevent many from teaching, which negatively impacts countless schools and students, particularly in under-served communities. Rep. Carson's legislation will help America's education system catch up to our increasingly mobile society by allowing teachers to more easily take teaching positions across state lines and at schools that desperately need teachers. This legislation has been endorsed by the National Education Association (NEA) and Third Way. I am extremely pleased to introduce these two pieces of legislation that will help improve our education system, Congressman Carson said. | https://carson.house.gov/newsroom/press-releases/rep-carson-reintroduces-bill-to-fight-food-deserts | Rep. Carson Reintroduces Bill to Fight Food Deserts | 2020-10-07 | 2020 | 2020-10 | Democrat | Senate | IN | André Carson | C001072 | carson.house.gov | legacy | Indianapolis, IN This week, Congressman Andr Carson (IN-07) reintroduced the Food Deserts Act (HR8531), legislation that will help shrink food deserts. Food deserts are neighborhoods where access to nutritious and affordable food is scarce. Over 29 million people -- almost 10 percent of the U.S. population -- live without ready access to affordable, nutritious food and over 2 million people have no transportation to get to their nearest store. This legislation will create USDA funding for state operated revolving funds that will issue low interest loans for the operation of grocery stores in food deserts. The bill ensures that recipients of these loans, including for-profit, non-profit and municipal entities, will provide affordable, healthy food, including fresh produce and staples like milk, bread and meat. It will also ensure that USDA professionals are available to provide technical assistance to recipients who need it. Nutritious food should be an expectation, not a luxury. That is why I am extremely pleased to reintroduce the Food Deserts Act, which creates new avenues to fund stores in underserved communities, Congressman Carson said. In the 7th Congressional District alone, 1 in 5 people live in a food desert. In these areas, grocery stores are unfortunately closing down, taking away healthy options, and prices are skyrocketing for smaller stores. Too many families already lack a car or reliable public transportation to get to the nearest alternative, often located over a mile away. These problems have only been made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, thousands of my constituents are struggling to find the food they need, with many forced to rely on fast food and convenience stores Rep. Carson continued. This is simply unacceptable, particularly in the wealthiest nation on Earth. The Food Deserts Act is a bold, common-sense solution to help reduce this inequality. I urge my colleagues to support this bill and pass it as soon as possible." | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | ||
| https://carson.house.gov/newsroom/statements-for-the-record/recognition-of-the-service-and-legacy-of-justice-ruth-bader | RECOGNITION OF THE SERVICE AND LEGACY OF JUSTICE RUTH BADER GINSBURG | 2020-10-02 | 2020 | 2020-10 | Democrat | Senate | IN | André Carson | C001072 | carson.house.gov | legacy | Madam Speaker, I rise today to join my colleagues in recognizing the lifetime of service and the legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. "Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you." This insight came from the late Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg and has never been more applicable than today. The Notorious RBG was a fighter for all and a defender of rights until the very end, showing us all the true definition of what it means to be a great leader. Throughout her career she fought to extend fairness and protections for countless marginalized groups in this country. As a father to young girl and a passionate defender of women's rights, I stand before you to reflect on the legacy that Justice Ginsburg has left on all generations today, and in the years to come. In 1993, Justice Ginsburg was appointed to the Supreme Court with unanimous support from the Senate and became only the second woman ever to serve on the highest court in our land. She brought both passion and brilliance to her decisions, always with the best interests of Americans on her mind while upholding our Constitution. We have a duty to honor Justice Ginsburg by continuing her fight to advance the progress she tirelessly worked for during her entire career. In a time when my constituents and fellow Americans are urgently voicing their need for unity and fairness, we must demand the very things Justice Ginsburg fought for so fiercely: equal health care, reproductive rights, equal rights, LGBTQ rights, workers' rights, voting rights, civil rights, and much more. So much is at stake with the Supreme Court vacancy her passing has created. The Supreme Court is already scheduled to hear arguments the week after the election on the Trump Administration's reckless push to destroy the Affordable Care Act (ACA). That means, in the middle of this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed more than 200,000 Americans, the President and his allies are trying to pack the Supreme Court to take away the health c… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | ||
| https://carson.house.gov/newsroom/press-releases/rep-carson-statement-on-whats-at-stake-on-the-supreme-court | Rep. Carson Statement on What's at Stake on the Supreme Court | 2020-09-26 | 2020 | 2020-09 | Democrat | Senate | IN | André Carson | C001072 | carson.house.gov | legacy | Washington, DC Congressman Andr Carson released the following statement on President Trump's decision to nominate a replacement for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, just weeks before the upcoming presidential election, while voting is already taking place. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been described as a diminutive giant, and there is no doubt that loss has opened a void in the hearts and minds of millions of Americans. We owe it to her lifetime and her legacy, to take the time to honor and celebrate her life, but also, to take the time we need to fully mourn her loss. Without even speaking of the rank hypocrisy displayed by Republican Senators in their haste to replace Justice Ginsburg, there are even more compelling reasons not to consider any nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court until after the next president is sworn in. Traditionally, and over many decades of precedent, there is an average of at least 65 days that elapse between a vacancy opening up on the U.S. Supreme Court and an announcement of a nominee to fill that vacancy. It has only been 8 days since Justice Ginsburg died, and sadly, she has not even been laid to rest. And yet, we're suffering today through this indecent rush to pack ideologues onto the highest court in the land. Traditionally, it takes an average of 141 days from the opening of a vacancy to the confirmation of a replacement -- not the 30 days that the Senate Majority Leader has announced. This unprecedented rush to pack the Court prevents the thorough investigation required before the confirmation of a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land. Traditionally, consideration of a Supreme Court nominee would never occur so close to a presidential election, and certainly never during a presidential election which is in fact already underway. Americans have already begun to vote for the next president, and their voices MUST be heard. Ramming through a Supreme Court nominee now, in the middle of the election, is in fact, ignoring the voices of American voters. Let me be c… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | ||
| https://carson.house.gov/newsroom/press-releases/house-passes-carson-legislation-to-combat-maternal-mortality-fight-health | House Passes Carson Legislation to Combat Maternal Mortality, Fight Health Disparities | 2020-09-21 | 2020 | 2020-09 | Democrat | Senate | IN | André Carson | C001072 | carson.house.gov | legacy | Washington, DC -- Today, the House of Representatives passed theMaternal Health Quality Improvement Act(H.R. 4995) which included Representative Andr Carson's bipartisan legislation, theExcellence in Maternal Health Act(H.R. 4215). This bipartisan bill, introduced with Representative Carson's fellow Hoosier Representative, Larry Bucshon (R), will make significant strides in combating maternal mortality by working to improve maternal health access and quality, reduce health disparities and discrimination, and strengthen training for health care providers. Protecting the health and safety of mothers and families isn't a partisan issue. That's why I'm incredibly pleased that my colleagues in the House have overwhelmingly passed this piece of bipartisan legislation to reduce maternal mortality and save lives, said Congressman Carson. Mothers across America continue to die during pregnancy and childbirth, and these deaths are often preventable. This is certainly the case in Indiana, which has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in America. Preventing maternal mortality is also an important step in our fight for racial justice. Black and Brown women are significantly more likely to die during pregnancy and childbirth, which worsens the widening health disparities that people of color experience. Preventing disproportionate deaths in childbirth for Black and Brown mothers is critical. We must do everything in our power to expand access to quality health care that can keep these women alive and thriving as they raise the next generation of leaders, which helps all of our communities become stronger. Now that the House has passed the bill, I urge the Senate to also pass it as quickly as possible. The sooner it becomes law, the sooner we can help ensure more happy and healthy families in Indiana and across America. Specifically, theExcellence in Maternal Health Actworks to combat maternal morality by providing: $10 million to help develop and enact best practices to eliminate maternal morality through impro… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | ||

"The passing ofJusticeGinsburg is a monumental lossforour entire nation. She was a tireless championforcivil rights and equalityforall --- not only during her 27 years sitting on the Supreme Court, but throughout her long and distinguished legal career. She experienced the sting of discrimination and bigotry, and spent her life working to prevent future generations from experiencing the same prejudice she rose up against. I urge every American to put partisan differences and political allegiances aside right now and come together to honor her amazing life and legacy, and to allow us time to mourn her enormous loss. We must lift up her life's work to ensure that America's freedoms and opportunities are available to all." | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
