Stradford, owned a Tulsa hotel that was destroyed during the city's 1921 race massacre. When Stradford fled to Chicago, his son's legal skills blocked the businessman's extradition to Tulsa and, he said, likely prevented a lynching. But things weren't the same after that for Stradford, whose wealth and status were reduced to ashes.
