This bipartisan bill is another common sense way that we can clarify the Affordable Care Act to better work for Hoosiers.” Under the ACA, employers with more than 50 full-time employees or FTEs are required to provide employees with health insurance or face a penalty. Because the IRS already considers volunteer emergency personnel as employees for federal tax purposes, there is concern that volunteers will be included in the FTE calculation. This bipartisan legislation has been endorsed by the International Association of Fire Chiefs, National Volunteer Fire Council, and Congressional Fire Services Institute. In June, Donnelly and Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced the Forty Hours is Fully Time Act of 2013, which would change the definition of “full time” in the ACA from 30 to 40 hours per week and the number of hours counted toward a “full-time equivalent” employee up to 174 hours per month. Donnelly and Collins proposed this change to bring it in line with what most Americans have traditionally recognized as full time. Under the legislation, the VA would have the authority it needs to exhume the remains of Michael LeShawn Anderson, a veteran who shot and killed Indianapolis resident Alicia Dawn Koehl last year before committing suicide. The Koehl family later discovered that Anderson was buried at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Michigan. The bill passed the Senate in November by unanimous consent. Cutting the volume of renewable fuels required in our transportation fuel will hurt Indiana workers and hurt Indiana’s economy.” The RFS was first established in 2005 and updated in 2007 to ensure a minimum level of renewable energy use in our transportation fuel supply. The 2013 requirements were 13.8 billion gallons of ethanol and 2.75 billion gallons of other advanced biofuels. Under law, the 2014 requirements are set at 14.4 billion gallons of ethanol and 3.75 billion gallons of other advanced biofuels. On a typical day, approximately 60,000 Americans apply for Social Security cards, which they may need to be able to start a job, take out a loan, open a bank account, or conduct other financial transactions. During the shutdown, SSA could not issue new Social Security cards. The E-Verify system was closed, so employers were also unable to check prospective employees’ immigration status. The shutdown cost $500 million in lost visitor spending across the country, according to the National Park Service.
