https://lamborn.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-lamborn-supports-fy21-ndaa Congressman Lamborn Supports the FY21 NDAA 2020-12-28 2020 2020-12 Republican House CO Doug Lamborn L000564 lamborn.house.gov     legacy Washington, D.C. Today the United States House of Representatives voted to overturn the veto on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). President Trump vetoed the NDAA over concerns with the lack of a repeal of Section 230. The NDAA includes nearly $1 billion for defense programs in Colorado's Fifth District. Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement: One of the only enumerated roles of the federal government is to provide for the common defense. The most important vote I take every year as a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee is on the National Defense Authorization Act. This legislation is critical to ensuring that our men and women in uniform have the resources they need to execute the dangerous missions they are assigned. I simply could not oppose this bill when it provides nearly a billion dollars of defense spending in our district, bolsters our cybersecurity defense, modernizes our military to deter Russia and China, and provides a much-needed pay raise for our troops. I understand President Trump's concerns about Section 230 and I share those concerns. This is why I am a cosponsor of legislation from my colleague Rep. Gosar which would revise Section 230 and prevent Big Tech from censoring and silencing conservatives. However, we cannot allow our near-peer adversaries to take advantage of any disruptions in funding for our troops or in research and development. I must support our troops and protect our national defense. This legislation also provides a three percent pay raise to our troops, codifies important national security space launch language, enhances our defense cooperation with allies and partners such as Israel, fully funds nuclear modernization, provides funds to counter China, and bolsters our cybersecurity defense. https://lamborn.house.gov/media/press-releases/icymi-reopen-small-businesses-backbone-society ICYMI: Reopen small businesses, the backbone of society 2020-12-28 2020 2020-12 Republican House CO Doug Lamborn L000564 lamborn.house.gov     legacy Colorado Springs, CO-Congressman Lamborn recently authored an Op-Ed published in the Colorado Springs Gazette about the harmful effects of COVID-19 shutdowns and the need for Governor Polis to allow Colorado small businesses and schools to reopen. Read the Op-Ed below: Reopen small businesses, the backbone of society The approval of two COVID-19 vaccines is an outstanding achievement of modern science, innovation, and research. President Donald Trump and his administration have worked diligently and effectively through Operation Warp Speed to develop multiple vaccines in record time. In fact, Colorado has received shipments of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Millions more doses are on the way. The vaccine must first go to the most vulnerable in our society and to front-line health care workers. The Great Barrington Declaration, which has been signed by nearly 13,000 medical and public health scientists, is an example of the balance we can reach to simultaneously protect the most vulnerable, maintain case counts below hospital capacity, and allow young and healthy individuals to go about their daily lives. Our small businesses and our community cannot endure further closing, even if partial. The adverse effects of prior lockdowns have caused many businesses to shut doors permanently. The restaurant industry is critical to Colorado's economy, providing 10% of the jobs in the state and generating $14.5 billion in annual sales. Restaurants and bars are prepared and trained to handle public health risks and must pass extensive health and safety protocols. For example, restaurants and bars must pass air-exchange tests, which in many circumstances leads to better air circulation than in crowded homes. Small businesses take the risks to their employees seriously, and it is in their best interest to protect them and their customers. The continued closure of schools and the use of remote learning is leading to harmful effects in the community. Students transmit the virus at a lower rate than adults, and students perform a… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jeanie and I give thanks for Jesus' gift of 'peace on Earth and goodwill toward man' through the presence of Emmanuel God with us. May your home be filled with peace and joy, and may God's presence surround you and your family at Christmas time and throughout the New Year." 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
https://lamborn.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-lamborns-statement-covid-19-relief-package Rep. Lamborn's Statement on the COVID-19 Relief Package 2020-12-23 2020 2020-12 Republican House CO Doug Lamborn L000564 lamborn.house.gov     legacy Washington, D.C. The United States House of Representatives today passed a massive two part, $1.4 trillion omnibus spending package which funds the government. The second part of the package also includes an additional $900 billion for COVID19 relief. Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement: "I was pleased to vote in favor of the first part of this package which included a 3% pay raise for our troops, provides $1.375 billion in border wall funding, and fully funds our nation's law enforcement. "However, I voted against the second part of this package, which increases non-defense spending by $12.5 billion dollars over the budget caps. This legislation included many unrelated provisions such as $23.9 billion-dollars for green new deal loan guarantees, $10 billion dollars to bail out the USPS, $180 million increase for the EPA, $40 million dollars for the Kennedy Center, and $10 million for gender programs in Pakistan. This legislation lays the groundwork for a Climate Security Advisory Council and contains COVID19 relief which is overly broad. For example, this legislation includes a $300 weekly federal supplemental unemployment benefit that will unfortunately make one half of Americans receive more by staying home than if they went back to their jobs. It also provides a $600 stimulus check to all Americans whether they are employed or not. The $600-dollar stimulus checks should be targeted, and falls short of focusing support on those who need it most, individuals who have lost their jobs and are suffering from state-mandated lockdowns. "This is a not a way to effectively legislate. This omnibus is the longest bill in history, numbering 5593 pages, and the second largest spending bill. To make matters worse, the full text of this bill was not released until hours before Members were expected to vote on its content. In the future, we must allow Members of Congress to engage in negotiation and debate, not craft legislation in secret behind closed doors in the 11th hour, just days before Christmas. https://buck.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/rep-ken-buck-objects-23-trillion-coronavirus-relief-and-omnibus-bill Rep. Ken Buck Objects to $2.3 Trillion Coronavirus Relief and Omnibus Bill 2020-12-21 2020 2020-12 Republican Senate CO Ken Buck B001297 buck.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON Congressman Ken Buck (R-Colo.) released the following statement concerning his vote onthe Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021: "Small business owners and unemployed Americans are struggling to stay afloat under statewide lockdowns. Congress's response? A $2.3 trillion COVID-omnibus bill that includes: language to further Green New Deal policies, millions of dollars to build two new Smithsonian museums, and a provision regarding the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, just to name a mere fraction of the ridiculous provisions outlined in this bill. Instead of doing the right thing by offering a lifeline to working Americans with targeted relief, Congress has resorted tostrapping our future generations with an insurmountable amount of debt. I would have supported targeted relief to help small businesses and individuals who need it most, and a plan to distribute the vaccine to the most vulnerable, but this bill clearly misses the mark. With just under eight hours to read the 5,593-page bill, I cannot, in good conscience, vote for this legislation that spends billions of taxpayer dollars on pet projects that have nothing to do with COVID relief or keeping the government funded," Rep. Buck said. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
https://lamborn.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-lamborns-defense-news-op-ed-spend-funds-space-dominance-not-moving-space Rep. Lamborn's Defense News Op-Ed: Spend funds on space dominance, not moving Space Command's headquarters 2020-12-18 2020 2020-12 Republican House CO Doug Lamborn L000564 lamborn.house.gov     legacy Spend funds on space dominance, not moving Space Command's headquarters By Rep. Doug Lamborn There is a growing consensus in Washington that 2021 will seea flattening of U.S. defense spendingin fiscal 2022 and beyond. This iseven more likelyunder the incoming Biden administration, despite consistent testimony by our military leaders that we need 3-5 percent real growth in the defense budget to maintain our competitive edge over our near-peer competitors, Russia and China. Tough choices will have to be made, but the priority in our reorientation toward great power competition should be shoring up American space dominance. Some of our nation's most experienced space war fighters haveexplainedwhy this isthe case. The goal of reorganizing national security space was always to move quickly, keep costs low and eliminate stifling bureaucracy. This is so we can provide our space war fighters the increased authorities and resources needed to maintain our space dominance. As Gen. John Jay Raymond, the Space Force's chief of space operations, said last month, Space Force and Space Command have to stay lean, agile and fast. I have had the privilege of being a part of this grand initiative since its beginning, when a bipartisan effort at reforming our national security space enterprise was launched by the House Strategic Forces Subcommittee in 2016. I helped fight for these reforms, led by Reps. Mike Rogers, R-Ala., and Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., partly because I knew our country had the necessary personnel and infrastructure already it is in Colorado Springsand always has been. We simply needed as a country to get administrative roadblocks out of the way to enable our space professionals to excel. From 1985 until 2002, U.S. Space Command's headquarters was in Colorado Springs. Since August 2019, it is back in Colorado Springs on a provisional basis. Even when the space war-fighting function fell under U.S. Strategic Command in Omaha, Nebraska, from 2002-2019, the men and women executing the mission remained in Colorado. Ken Buck Introduces House Resolution to Ensure Every Legal Vote is Counted In 2020 Presidential Election 2020-12-11 2020 2020-12 Republican Senate CO Ken Buck B001297 buck.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON Today, Congressman Ken Buck (R-Colo.) was joined by House Republican Chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) in introducing H.Res. 1256 to support President Trump's efforts to ensure that every legal vote is counted in the November 2020 Presidential election and to investigate and bring justice to those who perpetrate election fraud. Reps. Buck and Cheney are joined by more than 17 Republican members in this effort to protect the integrity of our election system. Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) said: It is so important that we do everything we can to ensure every legal vote is counted in the 2020 Presidential election, Rep. Buck said. It's critical that folks have confidence in their election system because free and fair elections are a hallmark of our system of government. We must protect the integrity of our elections and bring justice to those who perpetrate election fraud. Original cosponsor Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) said: Since Election Day, Americans have heard about many claims and allegations of election fraud and irregularities. I have joined several of my colleagues to demand that all of these issues receive transparent investigations to assure our constituents of the integrity of our elections system. Every legal vote should be counted, and every illegal vote should be removed. Our Republic deserves nothing less. Text of the resolution is linked HERE. Cosponsors: Rep. Andy Biggs Rep. https://lamborn.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-lamborn-commemorates-79th-national-bible-week Congressman Lamborn Commemorates the 79th National Bible Week 2020-12-10 2020 2020-12 Republican House CO Doug Lamborn L000564 lamborn.house.gov     legacy Washington D.C. This week, Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) led a Special Order on the House floor, celebrating the 79th anniversary of National Bible Week. Congressman Lamborn and several other Members of Congress expressed the profound impact that the Bible has had on their lives and on America. In 1941, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt declared the week of Thanksgiving to be National Bible Week. Since that year, the week of Thanksgiving has been marked by a series of celebrations recognizing the Bible's spiritual and historical significance. The Bible has served as a foundational building block of Western civilization, our Judeo-Christian heritage, and the ideas and principles that shaped America's founding fathers' thinking. Rep. Lamborn gave the following remarks: "Many of the early American settlers came to the New World with the express purpose of living out their faith in God and His Word according to the convictions of their consciences. One of Congress' first acts in the infancy of our Nation was the authorization of an American-published Bible. Our Founding Fathers understood how important it was for the American people to have access to Bibles. "The Bible claims to be more than a mere book. It claims to be the inspired Words of God. As it says in the first book of Peter: 'All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls off, but the Word of the Lord abides forever.' I am thankful for the Word of God and the impact it has had on my life, on the lives of those who have spoken here today, and on the life of our great Nation." https://lamborn.house.gov/media/press-releases/pikes-peak-region-wins-big-fy2021-ndaa Pikes Peak Region Wins Big in the FY2021 NDAA 2020-12-08 2020 2020-12 Republican House CO Doug Lamborn L000564 lamborn.house.gov     legacy Washington, D.C. Today the United States House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021. Congressman Lamborn, Ranking Member of the Readiness Subcommittee released the following statement: I was pleased that the National Defense Authorization Act passed the United States House of Representatives. As a conferee, I was happy to successfully secure over $984.2 million dollars in new funding for defense programs in Colorado's Fifth District. I also succeeded in removing partisan provisions, such as unconstitutional red-flag laws and massive land grabs throughout Colorado, the largest land grabs in state history. "I understand President Trump's concerns over a couple of provisions in this legislation. President Trump is correct. We need to take a serious look at repealing or revising Section 230. Big tech has gotten away with censoring conservatives and I am seriously concerned by their actions. I am a cosponsor of bipartisan legislation by Rep. Gosar which would revise Section 230. I urge my Republican and Democratic colleagues to immediately take up this legislation. With that said, this year's NDAA was vital to supporting our troops and our district. I have to support legislation which funds our men and women in uniform currently serving in harm's way overseas, gives a pay raise to our military, provides key funding for important national security space programs, and increases our readiness to confront our near-peer adversaries seeking to confront us around the globe. Through advocacy as a senior member of the Armed Services Committee Congressman Lamborn was able to include funding for the Pikes Peak region for defense research, next-generation weapons systems, and construction efforts in excess of $984.2 million, just under one billion dollars, to include: -Four military construction projects in Colorado's 5th Congressional District totaling nearly $150 million: -Consolidated Space Operations Facility on Schriever AFB:the next-generation national security space operatio… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Lamborn's Bill to Name Briargate Post Office "Chaplain (Capt.) Dale Goetz Memorial Post Office Building" 2020-12-05 2020 2020-12 Republican House CO Doug Lamborn L000564 lamborn.house.gov     legacy Washington, D.C.-This week, the U.S. Senate unanimously approved Congressman Doug Lamborn's legislation to name the Briargate post office in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in honor of Army Chaplain (Capt.) Dale Goetz (KIA). Chaplain Goetz, who was killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan, was the first chaplain killed in action since the Vietnam War. "Through his life and career, Chaplain Goetz showed us how to pursue excellence and be dedicated to service to our nation and our God. Honoring Chaplain Goetz's life and accomplishments by naming the Briargate post office in Colorado Springs the 'Chaplain Captain Dale Goetz Post Office' is a fitting tribute to this American hero," said Congressman Doug Lamborn. "Chaplain Goetz repeatedly answered the call of duty to his country, served with great distinction, and rose in rank throughout his military career. His life-long and selfless commitment to the defense of America, American values, and the American way of life is worthy of this distinct recognition." United States Army Chaplain (Captain) Dale A. Goetz was an Air Force veteran (specialized in telecommunications) and Army Chaplain. He joined the Army's chaplaincy out of a strong desire to help others. Chaplain Goetz, born in Santa Barbara, CA, but raised in Hood River, Oregon, graduated in 1995 from Maranatha Baptist Bible College, now Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown, WI, with a bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies. https://lamborn.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-lamborn-no-more-marijuana Congressman Lamborn- No MORE Marijuana 2020-12-04 2020 2020-12 Republican House CO Doug Lamborn L000564 lamborn.house.gov     legacy Washington, D.C.-Today, the United States House of Representatives voted on the MORE Act, legislation that legalizes marijuana and removes it entirely from the Controlled Substances Act. Marijuana is currently the most commonly used illicit drug, with more than 24 million Americans presently claiming to use it. This includes 20.8% of young adults aged 18-25 who have used marijuana at least once in the past month. The MORE Act would provide taxpayer dollars to the marijuana industry and makes federal grants and loans available for cannabisrelated service providers. It requires the Department of Justice to provide administrative services to individuals previously convicted of marijuana-related offenses. This bill also rejects the Department of Health and Human Services study that found that marijuana has been linked to schizophrenia and psychosis and can affect the area of the brain responsible for memory and learning. Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement: "In Colorado, we have seen the devastating effects of marijuana. Dispensaries sit on the corners that once held churches, often down the street from schools, and our homeless population is growing by the day. Even worse, our country is in the midst of a serious drug use crisis. We cannot pass extreme and unwise legislation that will only exacerbate this problem as well as infringe upon states' rights. The MORE Act opens the floodgates to marijuana cultivation, distribution, and sale across America. "Furthermore, this bill would retroactively expunge federal marijuana convictions, potentially leading to the early release of convicted drug traffickers. We cannot continue to allow bad actors and criminal organizations to exploit our nation's addiction crisis or endanger our youth. Even worse, the expanded use of marijuana amongst kids leads to extreme addiction rates and potentially long-term effects on the brain and mental health. Buck Introduces Bill to Stop China's IP Theft 2020-12-02 2020 2020-12 Republican Senate CO Ken Buck B001297 buck.house.gov     legacy Today, Congressman Ken Buck (R-Colo.) introduced H.R. 8831, a bill that codifies the denial of export privileges against nations that violate U.S. law and steal intellectual property. The Commission on the Theft of American Intellectual Property estimates that intellectual property theft costs the United States economy approximately $600 billion annually. The Chinese government remains the world's principal source of intellectual property theft. A March 2019 CNBC poll found that one in fiveU.S. corporations say that China has stolen proprietary intellectual property within the last year and one in three U.S. corporations state that China has stolen their intellectual property within the last decade. Rep. Buck said: What Americans innovate, China steals. The Chinese government's long history of intellectual property theft has cost the United States billions of dollars each year. My bill codifies the administration's ability to issue denial orders against international entities that violate our laws and steal our intellectual property. This bill will combat China and other hostile nations' ability to steal our intellectual property and do untold harm to our economy. Buck Introduces Bill to Increase Penalties for Violent Rioters 2020-11-17 2020 2020-11 Republican Senate CO Ken Buck B001297 buck.house.gov     legacy In response to the latest reports of ANTIFA and other left-wing groups inciting riots and violently attacking peaceful demonstrators over the weekend, Congressman Ken Buck (R-Colo.) introduced the Blocking Rioters and Insurrectionists from our Cities to Keep us Safe (BRICKS) Act. This bill increases penalties for inciting, organizing, aiding, abetting, or funding rioting (18 USC, Sec. 2101) from five years to 10 years. The BRICKS Act also adds an escalator clause in which penalties may increase to 25 years in prison if serious bodily injury is inflicted. Violators may face up to life in prison if death results from their actions. This legislation comes after Rep. Buck's letter to Attorney General William Barr last month urging the Department of Justice to investigate individuals and groups responsible for funding, organizing, inciting, and participating in riots. Congressman Ken Buck (R-Colo.) said: This year, we've seen an unprecedented amount of violence from riots organized by ANTIFA and other radical leftist groups. It's time to take action against anarchist groups that have wreaked havoc across the country and the BRICKS Act does just that, Rep. Buck said. In order to truly restore unity in this country, Congress must support efforts like this to stop the violence perpetrated by the far left. We need to restore the livelihoods of our communities and hold these criminals accountable for their large-scale destruction once and for all. This effort works to ensure American farmers and food producers have access to fair trade rules overseas. The EU has continually misused geographical indications (GIs) to manipulate the market share of U.S. dairy producers by confiscating dozens of cheese names that are commonly used by the dairy industryincluding cheeses such as parmesan, asiago, feta, Havarti, and gorgonzola. Lamborn responds to Department of Education investigation into SFSU 2020-11-06 2020 2020-11 Republican House CO Doug Lamborn L000564 lamborn.house.gov     legacy Washington, D.C. In response to calls from Rep. Doug Lamborn, the Department of Education is looking into potential violations of anti-terrorism laws by San Francisco State University (SFSU). In September, San Francisco State University hosted known terrorist Leila Khaled for a virtual lecture to university students. Leila Khaled hijacked two planes in 1969 and 1970 with members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine is a designated terrorist organization by the United States, Israel, United Kingdom, European Union, Canada, Australia, and Japan. SFSU is potentially in violation of 18 U.S. Code Section 2339B, which states that whoever knowingly provides material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization, or attempts or conspires to do so, shall be fined or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both. Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement: I'm pleased to see Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has answered my calls for an investigation into this important matter. I'm concerned that SFSU may be misusing federal funds to host terrorists to indoctrinateits students. I'm also concerned this event may have violated 18 U.S. Code Section 2339B by providing material support to a terrorist organization. Welcoming foreign terrorists to ouruniversities is deeply un-American. I look forward to continuing my work with the Administration to ensure U.S. law is upheld. In accordance with Rep. Lamborn's request, the Department of Education has also referred the case to the Justice Department and the Department of Treasury for investigation. Under Gardner's legislation, S. 132, the Strengthening U.S. Olympics Act, Congress would establish a 16-member commission, all of whom would be required to have experience in athletics, advocacy, or coaching, and half of whom would be comprised of Olympians or Paralympians selected to study the structure of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and provide recommendations to improve it. I applaud the President for signing my bipartisan legislation to help support our Olympic athletes by giving them a seat at the table to improve the USOPC and the state of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics, said Senator Gardner. This common-sense bill would create a 16-member commission, at least half of whom would be Olympians or Paralympians, to examine what's working and what's not and report back to Congress with their findings, conclusions, recommendations, and any suggested policy changes. This commission will help the U.S. Olympic Committee's presence in Colorado grow even stronger and make sure we do a better job looking out for the futures of our Olympic and Paralympic athletes. I would also like to thank Senators Moran and Blumenthal for their leadership on these issues and working with me to get this provision signed into law. The USOPC supports the Congressional Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics included in the Empowering Olympians, Paralympians and Amateur Athletes Act of 2020, and we look forward to working collaboratively with the Commission to strengthen the Olympic and Paralympic movements in the United States, said Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee. U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, applauded the announcement that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is awarding $6 million to expand rural broadband service in Northwest Colorado. The funding will be provided to Yampa Valley Electric Association through USDA's ReConnect program to increase access to reliable and affordable high-speed internet, which is expected to connect 553 people, 27 farms, 27 businesses and three post offices to high-speed broadband internet in Moffat, Rio Blanco, Routt, Grand, and Eagle counties in Northwest Colorado. The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the digital divide that exists in many of our rural communities, and it's more important than ever to keep Colorado residents connected to reliable and speedy broadband, no matter which corner of the state they happen to live in,said Senator Gardner. The people that live in Northwest Colorado are some of the toughest and most resilient people I know and they deserve the same access to high-speed broadband as other regions of the state. I will continue working to ensure all of Colorado is connected. The funding for this project was made possible in part by the 2018 Farm Bill, which authorized USDA's ReConnect program at $600 million with Gardner's support. It comes in addition to the$6.3 millionin funding to from USDA to expand broadband in Southwest Colorado earlier this month. Background: In July 2020, Gardner introduced theDEPLOY Broadband Act, which appropriates $6.5 billion to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for broadband buildout in unserved areas. In a bipartisan letter addressed to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, the senators urged the Administration to impose targeted sanctions on senior RAB commanders under applicable authorities, including the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act and Section 7031(c) of the FY 2020 Further Consolidated Appropriations Act. Extrajudicial killings by the RAB have reportedly spiked since the Government of Bangladesh began its war on drugs' in the months ahead of the December 2018 elections,Senator Gardner and his colleagues wrote.UN experts including the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary execution wrote that the war on drugs' appears to be a deliberate policy of extrajudicial killings' and urged the Government to end it and respect the rule of law and human rights. However, the Government has failed to end these abuses and the RAB continues to commit extrajudicial killings with impunity. The senators also expressed concerns that the RAB has been credibly implicated in human rights abuses beyond these extrajudicial killings. "In addition to extrajudicial killings, UN experts, journalists, and human rights groups have documented cases of the RAB committing enforced disappearances and widespread torture, including the 2019 abduction and suspected torture by the RAB of three men whose employer had a dispute with a high-ranking Government of Bangladesh official,"they added. These cases illustrate a pattern of gross human rights violations for which the Rapid Action Battalion and its senior leadership have faced no consequences. You can delete Facebook, turn off Twitter, or try to ditch Google but you cannot unsubscribe from government censors. Congress should be focused on encouraging speech, not restricting it. The Supreme Court has tried teaching us that lesson time and again, and the Constitution demands we remember it. Gardner introduced the Free the Internet around the Globe to Hack Tyranny and Censorship Act (FIGHT Censorship Act) in September, which would establish a clear U.S. policy on internet freedom, require the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to communicate that policy around the world, and establish an internet freedom task force. This eForm submission process was launched in 2014, however, ATF recently limited third-party processors' ability to assist American taxpayers in gun-purchase processing, despite prior congressional recommendations to streamline this process. Although the ATF previously acknowledged the important contributions of third-party processors and assured collaboration on the next iteration of the eForms system, recent restrictions do not align with this recognition. Rep. Ken Buck insists that this is an infringement on Second Amendment rights due to the unnecessary overcomplication it causes for rightful firearm ownership. The Rocky MountainVAMedical Center was the culmination of over a decade of advocacy from Colorado veterans and faced countless hurdles from the moment a need was identified in the late 1990s to the day the facility opened its doors in 2018. U.S. Senators Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Gary Peters (D-MI) today applauded the signing into law of their bipartisan legislation to strengthen the nation's ability to predict severe space weather events and mitigate their harmful impacts on Earth. A severe space weather event, such as a solar flare or coronal mass ejection, has the potential to seriously disrupt the electric power grid, communications networks including cellular phones and GPS, satellites, and aircraft operations. Space weather events stand to present significant economic and national security implications, with the potential to disrupt essential services, communications, and technologies we rely on every day. For years I have worked with Senator Peters on bipartisan space weather legislation, understanding the need to prioritize the research and development necessary to reduce the risk of these events and allow our nation to react and recover, said Senator Gardner.Today I'm proud to see our bipartisan bill signed into law to help bolster our country's ability to predict and address these events. U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked debate on the latest coronavirus relief package. The Americanpeople are sick of the cynical political games Washington politicians are playing with this desperately needed economic relief. They expect us to do our jobs, and it's shameful that Senate Democrats once again blocked common-sense, bipartisan relief because it doesn't include all of their partisan wish list. Why not pass the bill, send it to the House for their amendments, and move it forward on a bipartisan basis?said Senator Gardner. This relief package extended enhanced unemployment benefits, provided billions of dollars to support childcare services and students' safe return to in-person learning, allowed businesses to receive a second Paycheck Protection Program loan, and provided tens of billions of dollars for COVID-19 testing, containment, and vaccine development and distribution. I believe we can and should do more, and I will keep fighting for additional relief to help Coloradans through COVID-19, but opponents of this bill cannot justify denying relief simply because it doesn't include everything they want. U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked a measure that would provide an additional round of the PaycheckProtection Program (PPP) to help small businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic. This continued partisan obstruction of COVID-19 relief shows that Senate Democrats are more comfortable with people in the unemployment insurance office instead of on their employer's payroll, said Senator Gardner. The Paycheck Protection Program has provided over $10 billion to help make sure that businesses in Colorado can stay open and keep people on payroll, and small business owners across our state have told me the Paycheck Protection Program saved their businesses and that they desperately need another round to keep their businesses afloat. Colorado needs help to get through this pandemic; it's absurd that partisan politics would stop this important lifeline from reaching the American people. You can read more about Senator Gardner's actions to protect Coloradans from COVID-19here. Gardner is consistently requesting improvements to the Paycheck Protection Program to better serve Coloradans: In September 2020, Gardner voted for theDelivering Immediate Relief to America's Families, Schools, and Small Businesses Act, which provided changes to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to allow for a second load and simplified the loan forgiveness application process for current and future PPP recipients receiving loans of $150,000 or less. I applaud the President for signingmy common-sense, bipartisan legislation to shorten the national suicide hotline from ten digits to three easy-to-remember numbers: 9-8-8,said Senator Gardner.Colorado tragically has one of the highest suicide rates in the country, which is why I've made it a priority to work with my colleagues across the aisle for years to make mental health support more available. The COVID-19 pandemic has only increased our state's mental health needs, and during this unprecedented challenge suicide prevention is now more important than ever. This change to 9-8-8 will make it easier for Americans dealing with a crisis to access mental health support that could save their lives. Buck Calls on DOJ to Investigate Censorship of News Outlet on Social Media Platforms 2020-10-16 2020 2020-10 Republican Senate CO Ken Buck B001297 buck.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON On Wednesday, Congressman Ken Buck sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr expressing his concerns regarding the recent censorship of aNew York Postarticle on Facebook and Twitter. The article details Hunter Biden's alleged email correspondence with Burisma executives in 2014 and 2015. Social media platforms have broad immunity from prosecution under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act to allow users to exercise their freedom of speech with moderation only in cases involving egregious and illegal communications. In response to Twitter's and Facebook's recent actions, Rep. Ken Buck is calling on the DOJ to prevent this code from applying to platforms that moderate political content. Twitter and Facebook's editorial decisions to block the New York Post's story, while allowing the President to Iran to issue death threats against United States servicemembers, do not meet the narrow content moderation protections granted to platforms under Section 230," Rep. Buck writes. "I urge the DOJ to open an investigation into Twitter and Facebook's harmful actions to censor free speech and curtail Americans' access to a free press. Their recent actions violate the platform's immunity under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and threaten to chill free speech throughout our nation, which is why I also urge the DOJ to consider removing Section 230 immunity for social media platforms that engage in political content moderation. This letter comes after an initiative spearheaded by Rep. Buck to dismantle big tech censorship. Earlierthis month, he authored a report outlining a third way to take on big tech anticompetitive behavior, which was supported by Representatives Doug Collins (R-Ga.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), and Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.). U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) announced today a push to establish a Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital in Colorado Springs to increase access to timely services for Colorado veterans. This announcement followed a meeting with the leadership of the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center and U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert Wilkie in Aurora. Today Secretary Wilkie and I met with the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Center in Aurora to discuss ways to improvecare for veterans in Colorado, and I firmly believe one of the ways we can achieve increased access to services, especially with the projections for rapid growth in the veteran population in El Paso County, isthrough a VA Hospital in Colorado Springs, said Senator Gardner.I am forever grateful to our nation's men and women who served in uniform and will always fight to ensure they receive access to the quality care they deserve. Secretary Wilkie agreed with Gardner that Colorado needs more VA resources, citing the population growth of veterans in the state. Background: Senator Gardner led the effort for the completion of the VA Hospital in Aurora: In Gardner's first month in the U.S. Senate, he teamed up with fellow members of the Colorado delegation to introduce theAurora VA Hospital Financing and Construction Reform Act of 2015, and much of the language Gardner authored was later included in legislation that provided funding to the Aurora hospital. In response to the ongoing Cameron Peak Fire in Northern Colorado, U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) and U.S. Representatives Joe Neguse (D-CO) and Ken Buck (R-CO) are pressing the federal government to coordinate with the state of Colorado and local governments to help protect water supplies that rely on the Cachela Poudre River. In abipartisanletterto the U.S. DepartmentofAgriculture's (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the members of the Colorado congressional delegationstress the importance of swiftly mitigating erosion impacts, sediment loading, and debris from the wildfire in order to protect the water supply. Communities in Larimer and Weld counties, like Fort Collins and Greeley, receive at least some water supplies from the Poudre River, which pulls water from high mountain reservoirs. There are currently five reservoirs that are highly susceptible to erosion and potential sediment from the Cameron Peak wildfire burning in the area that could impact the larger area's drinking and irrigation water, wrote Senator Gardner and his colleagues. Colorado is managing threats from multiple wildfires across the state. One of the contributors to this wildfire season has been hot and dry weather throughout the spring and summer. The lack of moisture across Colorado has caused system-wide stress on water systems. Working to restore and make any necessary infrastructure repairs to the Poudre River watershed in advance of next spring's snowmelt may well prove to be vital in protecting drinking and irrigation water supplies for communities across Larimer and Weld counties, they wrote. This report offers a third way forward that will ensure our antitrust regulators have the tools and resources they require to conduct proper oversight and bring effective antitrust enforcement cases, the report reads. It's clear that the ball is in Congress' court. Companies like Apple, Amazon, Google, and Facebook have acted anticompetitively. We need to rise to the occasion to offer the American people a solution that promotes free and fair competition and ensures the free market operates in a free and fair manner long into the future. Rep. Buck released the following statement concerning the report: While I do not support the recommendations presented in the subcommittee's majority report, I fully support and am open to working with Chairman Cicilline to find a solution that reins in Big Tech and their anticompetitive behavior. Antitrust enforcement in Big Tech markets is not a partisan issue, I support the ongoing, bipartisan investigations of these companies. But an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cureI would rather see targeted antitrust enforcement over onerous and burdensome regulation that kills industry innovation. I want to thankReps. I was honored to secure the $28 million in funding to finally begin construction. The communities of the Lower Arkansas Valley deserve clean drinking water, which the Arkansas Valley Conduit will supply for generations to come. It's exciting to see dirt moving on this project for the first time since Congress authorized it and President Kennedy promised completion nearly six decades ago, said Senator Gardner.I want to thank President Trump, Office of Management and Budget Director Vought, Department of the Interior Secretary Bernhardt, the leadership of the Bureau of Reclamation, and everyone in Southeast Colorado who worked tirelessly to make today's groundbreaking possible. Earlier thismonth, Gardner wrote to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)requesting that schools be includedin future state distribution plans for rapid COVID-19 testing. The bill is cosponsored by U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX). With Colorado's population growing at one of the fastest rates in the country, it is critical that we are making necessary investments in our state's infrastructure, said Senator Gardner. The Ports-to-Plains Corridor is key to Colorado's connectivity and the movement of goods, and it's important we understand and consider our long-term infrastructure needs in the future. I appreciate the work of local stakeholders to support the corridor, and I will continue my efforts to support Colorado's infrastructure needs at the federal level. Texas is already the largest state exporter of goods, and adding an artery connecting us to Mexico and Canada will mean better access to markets for Texas farmers, ranchers, and producers, said Senator Cornyn.I look forward to working with my colleagues representing states all along the Ports-to-Plains Corridor to bring this plan to fruition. We are thrilled for this momentous legislation which will designate a future interstate along the Ports-to-Plains Corridor and bring a significant economic impact to the region as well as safety improvements for travelers on I-25,said Cathy Shull, Executive Director of Pro 15 and member of the Ports-to-Plains Alliance Board of Directors.Once completed, the infrastructure will alleviate heavy congestion by redirecting freight traffic east, paving the way for future economic development in eastern Colorado and increasing the productivity of drivers transporting Colorado exported goods to Mexico and Canada. The Ports-to-Plains Corridor in Colorado aims to facilitate an additional key North-South route to bolster the transportation of goods and people. U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy, is urging the United States Mission to the United Nations (USUN) to convene a high-level summit to highlight the Chinese Communist Party's unconscionable human rights violations and mobilize an international response. According to credible independent reports, well over one million ethnic Muslim minorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) and Buddhists in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) have been systematically targeted in the most pernicious cultural genocide campaign in recent history. The surveillance infrastructures in these provinces blatantly violate rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), including the right to be free from arbitrary or unlawful interference with privacy, religious freedom, freedom of movement, and freedom of expression. Furthermore, recent reports make clear that the international community is not merely standing idly on the sidelines of these gross human rights violations, but is becoming complicit as materials and goods originating from these coercive labor campaigns are infiltrating our supply chains, wrote Senator Gardner. For these reasons, I urge you to immediately convene a high-level international summit, alongside our friends and partners at the United Nations, to call attention to events in Tibet and Xinjiang that disgrace the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We must coordinate a response with our international partners to compel the CCP to alter its inhumane labor practices and to protect the integrity of our supply chains. Leila Khaled hijacked two planes in 1969 and 1970 with members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement: "As lead sponsor of the Taylor Force Act, I am deeply troubled that federal dollars may be used to subsidize an event that props up a Palestinian terrorist like Mrs. Khaled and provides an academic platform to spread her toxic ideology. Providing a digital forum and platform for an admitted member of a terrorist organization who has unrepentantly committed terrorist acts is not speech or academic inquiry. Rather, it is aiding the dissemination of terrorist propaganda and materially supporting terrorism. Leila Khaled is unwelcome in the European Union, unwelcome in the United States, and she should be unwelcome in Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco as well." San Francisco State University plans to host the event with Leila Khaled on Gender, Justice, & Resistance on September 23rd at 1:30 pm MT. SFSU's president, Lynn Mahoney, has defended the decision, saying: Rather than stifle speech, we must encourage robust questioning and dissent, and ensure that our students and faculty are free from retaliation or censorship for doing so. With approval from the House of Representatives today, our bipartisan bill to create a three-digit suicide hotline and make it easier for Americans dealing with a mental health crisis to receive life-saving support is now another step closer to becoming reality, said Senator Gardner.I've held countless meetings and roundtables with families, students, mental health care professionals, law enforcement officials, and others to address our state's mental health needs. They are apartof our stateand our nation's history and todayI want to thankthePresident for helping bringpart of Colorado's history back home, said Senator Gardner.Nearly 130 years ago, a number of remains and artifacts belonging to the Ancestral Pueblo were excavated from an area that is now Mesa Verde National Park. This past weekend, thanks to engagement by the Tribes, as well as the President and his Administration's diplomatic work with Finland, these remains and artifacts were returned home and local Tribes were able to hold a proper burial ceremony on the Tribes' ancestral land near Durango. Returning these items to their proper resting place was important for the Tribes, for our state, and for our entire country, and I will continue my efforts to support Colorado's two federally recognized Tribes, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, as well as other federally recognized Tribes across the nation. ### Cory Gardner is a member of the U.S. Senate serving Colorado. Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan bill introduced by U.S. Senators Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Gary Peters (D-MI) to strengthen the nation's ability to predict severe space weather events and mitigate their harmful impacts on Earth. The U.S.SenatepassedGardnerand Peters' bipartisan bill in July, and the legislation now heads to the President's desk to be signed into law. A severe space weather event, such as a solar flare or coronal mass ejection, has the potential to seriously disrupt the electric power grid, communications networks including cellular phones and GPS, satellites and aircraft operations. A space weather event has the potential to disrupt essential services, communications, and everyday technologies we rely on, presenting significant economic and natural security implications, said Senator Gardner. It's important that we prioritize the research and development necessary to reduce the risk and allow our nation to react and recover from these events, which Congress is doing by passing this bipartisan bill. With the Coronavirus pandemic forcing schools, small businesses and families to find innovative ways to stay connected, it has never been more important for our nation to protect against threats to our electric grid, telecommunications networks and even air travel, said Senator Peters. While we cannot predict when they will happen, space weather events pose a unique and significant challenge to our national security, economy and technological infrastructure. We simply cannot afford to be caught flat-footed, and I look forward to this bipartisan bill being signed into law. It is critical to better understand solar events and their impacts on Earth and our entire space environment. From our ground-based facilities to our space-based assets, these solar events can cause irreparable harm to our commercial interests and our national security. U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy, today introduced the Free the Internet around the Globe to HackTyranny and Censorship Act (FIGHT Censorship Act), which would establish a clear U.S. policy on internet freedom, require the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to communicate that policy around the world, and establish an internet freedom task force. The bill would also require the Secretary of State to make annual designations of countries that are deemed not to have sufficient internet freedom, authorize a grant program to fight global censorship, and create a new Stop the CCP Initiative Fund to counter censorship by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Areportfrom Freedom House listed China as the worst abuser of internet freedom for the fourth year in a row. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 outbreak, there were numerous and well-documented instances of the Great Firewall of China suppressing the free flow of critical and medically important information about the pandemic. Countries like China also have longstanding instances of human rights abuses and particularly target religious and ethnic minoritiesin some cases, those abuses are furthered through restricting access to the internet and aggressive censorship regimes. The internet is one of the most transformative technological developments of the 20thcentury. It has changed the ways we exercise our fundamental freedoms and driven a global increase in trade, commercial activity, and innovation, said Senator Gardner. An international internet freedom policy will go hand-in-hand with our efforts to promote democracy and human rights around the world, and it will continue tohold bad actors like the Chinese CommunistParty accountable for censorship and violations of basic human freedoms. This funding is authorized by the Student, Teachers, and Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Act of 2018, which Gardner cosponsored and was signed into law in March 2018. Senator Gardner has consistently supported funding for the program, which aims to improve school security and enhance school violence intervention and prevention programs, including the$100 millionsecured for this year's grants. Congress passed the STOP School Violence Act in 2018 because horrific school violence has made clear that the federal government can do more to ensure law enforcement and schools are coordinating on any risks or threats they may face, said Senator Gardner.I'm glad these grants are going toward school safety in Colorado, including for rural schools, because we need more resources to help stop school violence. U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement today recognizing World Suicide Prevention Day and renewed his call for the U.S. House of Representatives to pass S. 2661, the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act, which would establish 9-8-8 as the national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline. NOTE:Clickhereor the picture aboveto download Senator Gardner's remarks. Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, which helps raise awareness that suicide causes heartbreak and loss in communities across our nation and the world, said Senator Gardner.Last year, on average, we lost a Coloradan to death by suicide roughly every seven hours. Increasing the accessibility of life-saving services will be a key factor in addressing the growing suicide crisis in our nation. That's why I am calling on the House of Representatives to immediately move to take up and pass S. 2661, the NationalSuicideHotline Designation Act. Every day the House of Representatives delays is a missed opportunity to support critical suicide prevention measures and save lives. U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) spoke on the floor of the U.S. Senate yesterday regarding the coronavirus relief package being considered this week. Gardner encouraged his colleagues on both sides of the aisle to vote for the package in order to provide much-needed relief to the American people. NOTE:Clickhereor thepicture above to download Senator Gardner's remarks. The American people expect us to do our jobs. The American people have the chance to see this Congress work not in a bipartisan fashion tomorrow, but in a nonpartisan fashion, said Senator Gardner.I hope that my colleagues will stop the partisanship, stop the gamesmanship, stop the power hungry approach to politics. Put it aside for the American people. Do what's right for the American people. Vote yes on delivering this critically important relief for our country, so that we can stand united as our country has stood for months united to get through this together. Remarks as delivered: Thank you, Mr. President. Over the past several weeks, I've had the opportunity to visit with Colorado families and businesses across the four corners of our great state talking about the challenges that Colorado faces when it comes to our economy as a result of the pandemic, talking about the health challenges that have been created for our state and so many of us around the world when it comes to the pandemic, and the work that needs to be done. And the work this Congress needs to do to come together, to stop the partisanship, to stop the fighting, to stop the arguing, and actually develop real solutions for the people of this country. Congress has done that time and time again over the past several months. If you go back to March 6th, the passage of the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act that was signed into law that day, that was the first action that this chamber took when it came to coronavirus response. March 18th, a couple weeks later, Congress passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act that w… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement regarding today's vote on the Delivering Immediate Relief to America's Families, Schools, and Small Businesses Act: Coloradans and Americans across the country are expecting us to do our jobs, but with today's vote Senate Democrats told the American people that politics is more important than policy. And that's wrong, said Senator Gardner. My colleagues on the other side of the aisle would have you believe that the American people can wait for unemployment benefits and more help for businesses. That's why they blocked this relief, even though they agree with what this bill provides. Some people in Washington find the politics of pandering and partisanship too intriguing and inviting. The American people find it sickening. The coronavirus relief package contains: $105 billion to support students' safe return to in-person learning and educational opportunities $16 billion for testing and related containment efforts $31 billion for activities like vaccine development and distribution $20 billion in farm assistance $15 billion to support childcare services Changes to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to allow a second loan, with reforms to require new applications to show revenue loss Simplifying the loan forgiveness application process for current and future PPP recipients receiving loans of $150,000 or less Enhanced unemployment benefits of $300 per week through December 27, 2020 $10 billion in assistance to the United States Postal Service (USPS) ### Cory Gardner is a member of the U.S. Senate serving Colorado.
