https://stauber.house.gov/media/press-releases/stauber-letter-calls-federal-bureau-prisons-director-reverse-decision-close Stauber Letter Calls on the Federal Bureau of Prisons Director to Reverse Decision to Close the Prison Camp in Duluth 2024-12-18 2024 2024-12 Republican House MN Pete Stauber S001212 stauber.house.gov stauber https://stauber.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) sent a letter to Colette Peters, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP), criticizing her decision to close the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) in Duluth and outlining the reasons why the closure of this prison is misguided. Stauber’s letter, which follows a phone call he had with Director Peters, calls on the FBOP to reverse this decision. “The FBOP’s decision to close the Prison Camp in Duluth seems quite misguided. The motives behind this decision do not appear to be reasonable or sound and I am disappointed by the way the announcement was rolled out. To inform the employees they would be out of the job through an impersonal letter right before Christmas is far too insensitive. I will work with the incoming Trump Administration to reverse this closure, and in the meantime, I urge current FBOP leadership to reconsider their decision.” In Stauber’s letter, he highlights the following: The FBOP points to failing infrastructure as a justification behind the closure, but a staff member with FBOP told the Congressman’s office that they had not received any Occupational Safety and Health Department warnings about insufficient infrastructure at this location. FBC Duluth employees were told they will be able to relocate to the Federal Correctional Institution in Sandstone, MN, yet this institution is not short staffed and will likely be able to take on only 15 of the approximately 90 employees from FPC Duluth. The decision to close FPC Duluth violated contractual obligations with union employees. Budgetary concerns were also listed as a reason for the FPC Duluth closure, but cutting unnecessary administrative costs at Washington, DC headquarters would be a better option to save taxpayer money. Stauber had a call with Director Peters last week, where he voiced his concerns and announced his intention to fight this decision. https://emmer.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/emmer-celebrates-inclusion-of-the-ammunition-supply-chain-act-in-the-annual-defense-bill Emmer Celebrates Inclusion of the Ammunition Supply Chain Act in the Annual Defense Bill 2024-12-11 2024 2024-12 Republican House MN Tom Emmer E000294 emmer.house.gov emmer https://emmer.house.gov/media-center/press-releases scraper Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tom Emmer celebrated the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025. Included in the legislation was Congressman Emmer’s Ammunition Supply Chain Act, which aims to identify and address vulnerabilities in America’s ammunition supply chain to ensure the United States military has an uninterrupted and abundant supply of ammunition. “This year’s NDAA supports significant quality of life improvements for our service members and refocuses our military on their core mission: American safety and security,” Congressman Emmer said. “Including our Ammunition Supply Chain Act in this legislation is an important step to strengthen domestic ammunition production and support our service men and women.” Background: The increased use of ammunition and artillery around the world has led to global shortages of critical materials used in ammunition production. These shortages have resulted in skyrocketing domestic ammunition prices and have raised concerns over the United States’ military readiness. The Ammunition Supply Chain Act requires the Secretary of the Army to provide a comprehensive report to Congress on the supply chain of ammunition manufacturing. The report will include information on sourcing raw materials used in ammunition production, examining weaknesses in the existing supply chain and the global demand for ammunition, and providing strategies for fostering public-private partnerships. More information on the Ammunition Supply Chain Act can be found here. Additional provisions of the Fiscal Year 2025 NDAA include: A 14.5% pay raise for junior enlisted service members and a 4.5% pay increase for all other members of our armed forces. Improving the service member cost of living allowance calculation to properly account for inflation. Banning transgender medical treatments for minors. Prohibiting funding for critical race theory teaching and training in the military, service academies, and DoD schools. The full text of the National Defe… 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T22:13:55Z
https://stauber.house.gov/media/press-releases/stauber-calls-ti-leadership-consider-great-lakes-restoration-initiative-act Stauber Calls on T&I Leadership to Consider the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Act Before Conclusion of 118th Congress 2024-12-11 2024 2024-12 Republican House MN Pete Stauber S001212 stauber.house.gov stauber https://stauber.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper WASHINGTON, D.C. – Recently, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) joined Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI-03), a fellow Great Lakes legislator on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, in urging Committee leadership to consider H.R. 7257, the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Act of 2024 before the conclusion of the 118th Congress. Congressman Stauber stated, “Lake Superior and the other Great Lakes are national treasures, a key pillar of our economy, and the backdrop of countless special memories for my family and many others. Protecting the Great Lakes has always been a top priority of mine and I am proud to advocate for this bipartisan bill that will support ecosystem restoration, combat the spread of invasive species, and keep our waters clean. This bill has already passed the Senate, so it is imperative that the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee quickly mark it up, opening the door for a vote in the House of Representatives.” Congresswoman Scholten stated, “When seeking ways to preserve our natural treasures, doing so without breaking the bank is top of mind for this frugal Dutch mom. The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is crucial to protecting Lake Michigan’s ecosystem–and the economy that depends on its cleanliness – and it is a responsible use of taxpayer dollars. Every dollar of GLRI funding results in approximately $3.35 in economic activity–I don’t know many deals that are better than that! The common-sense nature of this bill makes it easy to find common ground, so I am proud I can work with my Republican colleague–Mr. Stauber–to advocate for the program’s extension.” The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) has long enjoyed bipartisan support to ensure the preservation of the Great Lakes, as well as the public health of neighboring communities. H.R. 7257 would reauthorize the GLRI through Fiscal Year 2031 and it would expand the GLRI’s authorization level from $475 million to $500 million. Emmer was announced as a recipient of the award in July for his continued support of the Minnesota National Guard. “Thanks to our citizen soldiers in the Minnesota National Guard, our state and our nation are more secure. I am deeply honored to receive this prestigious award and will continue working to support the men and women of the Minnesota National Guard,” Congressman Emmer said. Background: Since coming to Congress in 2015, Congressman Emmer has been a steadfast supporter of the Minnesota National Guard’s mission. Emmer worked to help secure eight new C-130J transport planes on behalf of the Minnesota Air National Guard’s 133rd Airlift Wing. Following the tragic death of three Minnesota National Guardsmen in a helicopter crash near St. Cloud in 2019, Congressman Emmer honored them on the floor of the House of Representatives and introduced legislation to remember their service. Established in 1988, the Charles Dick Medal of Merit is awarded to state and federal lawmakers who have distinguished themselves as indispensable supporters of the National Guard. The medal is named in honor of Major General Charles Dick who served as the National Guard Association of the United States’ President from 1902 to 1909, a Major General in the Ohio National Guard, and a United States Congressman and Senator. Major General Dick was instrumental in the passage of the Dicks Act of 1903 and 1908 which established the foundation for the modern National Guard. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T22:13:55Z

https://stauber.house.gov/media/press-releases/stauber-announces-infrastructure-funding-duluth-international-airport-and-pine Stauber Announces Infrastructure Funding for Duluth International Airport and Pine River Regional Airport 2024-10-21 2024 2024-10 Republican House MN Pete Stauber S001212 stauber.house.gov stauber https://stauber.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) announced $1,000,000 to help fund the replacement of the existing Air Traffic Control Tower at Duluth International Airport (DLH), which is one of the oldest in the country, and $1,140,000 to replace a general aviation terminal building at the Pine River Regional Airport. “I am excited to announce that more federal funding is returning to the Northland. The airports in our communities, no matter their size, contribute greatly to our regional economies. They ensure Minnesotans stay connected and bring tourism and commerce to our front doors. I am excited that Pine River Regional Airport will focus this investment on general aviation, helping inspire the next generation of aviators and keeping our aviation industry strong. Additionally, I am grateful that more investment is going towards replacing the Duluth Air Traffic Control Tower. I have been advocating for this project since 2019 as its replacement is crucial to keeping up with the growing numbers of travelers that the airport serves each year. This project is so important for a brighter aviation future in northern Minnesota, and I know our work is not done. I will continue working with Duluth Airport Authority Executive Tom Werner to secure the full amount of funding necessary.” In 2023, Stauber and Senator Klobuchar led the Minnesota delegation in sending a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration requesting that they expedite reviews and approvals required for DLH to apply for grant funding to build a new traffic control tower. In 2024, Stauber and Klobuchar also led the Minnesota delegation in a letter to President Biden, requesting that his Administration prioritize funding for the traffic control tower at DLH. Earlier this year, Stauber and Klobuchar jointly announced $10 million in funding for the project. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:57:20Z

Stauber’s letter reads (in part): “The current flow of illegal immigration is already overwhelming our northern ports of entry. They are understaffed and under-resourced, leaving our northern border communities vulnerable. Now, with this crisis on the horizon that will overburden our ports of entry even further, our national security is more vulnerable than ever before.” Read the full letter HERE. Recently, Canadian Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced that Canada will be reducing the number of its temporary residents. Consequently, many immigrants will likely illegally target our northern border, which sits wide-open thanks to the Biden-Harris Administration. Migrant encounters by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at the northern border have already hit record highs in 2024, with more than 180,000 between January and August. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:57:20Z

Some veteran families delayed in getting death certificate; Congress working to get data from VA KSTP 5 Eyewitness News Ben Henry October 8, 2024 There is a local and congressional push for change and information surrounding why some families of veterans are experiencing delays in the veteran’s death certificate getting signed. The local effort is with the Anoka County Commissioners, who, for some, have been addressing this for years after learning about a delay during the pandemic. From there, after connecting with policymakers from around the country, they realized this issue may span much further than the metro. “When you keep hearing the stories over and over again, you [realize] that [it] doesn’t happen to every veteran, but there’s enough of them out there that are having this issue,” Anoka County Commissioner Mike Gamache said. “And that really needs to be dealt with.” In July, the commissioners sent a letter to the secretary of the Veterans Affairs (VA) — with more than 120 people signing on, including policymakers from 26 states — calling for a policy requiring VA doctors to sign death certificates for natural causes within 72 hours. “After four and a half years, we might just get there,” Anoka County Commissioner Jeff Reinert, who was one of the first behind this push, said about their work. “They’ve done the bravest and the most heroic thing that they could do for this country, and for each of us, that we haven’t done, and they deserve better,” … 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:57:20Z

Congressman Stauber released the following statement: “The Miracle on Ice team unified our nation during a time of deep political tension. These young men fearlessly defeated the Soviet Union, which was at the time one of the greatest hockey teams to ever play. Their grit, determination, and pure patriotism inspired the world. I am honored to introduce this legislation because 12 players on this team and their legendary coach were Minnesotans. Minnesotans played an integral role in defeating the Soviet Union, and these men should forever be remembered as American hockey heroes.” “It is an honor to represent Lake Placid where our 1980 United States Olympic Hockey Team taught our nation how to believe in miracles when they defeated the dominant Soviet Union hockey team during the Cold War. Our North Country community is proud to be home of this historic and inspiring event and as we work to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the “Miracle on Ice,” this legislation honors our Olympic victors for their legendary achievement,” saidCongresswoman Elise Stefanik. “As a lifelong hockey fan, I remember watching the “Miracle on Ice” game and the wave of inspiration experienced across the country. Last year, Democrats in Minnesota passed a new law which automatically registers people to vote when they apply for, or update, their driver’s license. That same year, Democrats also passed a law which allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses. As such, many have expressed concerns that ineligible people could become registered to vote in Minnesota. His legislation that passed out of the House facilitated a critical land exchange that will help a small business in his district and support outdoor recreation opportunities for all who live near and recreate on and around Lake Winnibigoshish.” Background: Lake Winnibigoshish, also known as Lake Winnie, is located in the Chippewa National Forest and is home to Bowen Lodge. Bowen Lodge is a fishing lodge currently run by Bill and Gail Heig, who have served as incredible stewards of Lake Winnie and provided fishing and recreation opportunities to the local community. Rural communities are already at a disadvantage, with less access to essential services. Your proposal exacerbates these issues, turning a blind eye to the fact that reliable mail service is a lifeline for many in these areas.” The letter goes on to demand an immediate reassessment of the plan and calls for solutions that do not compromise service quality for rural areas. Background: A Washington Post article titled “Postal Service considers rural mail slowdown after election,” dated August 22, 2024, reports that USPS officials are considering plans to allow for slower rural delivery. Over the past year, Congressman Stauber has received numerous reports concerning USPS operations, including complaints of work conditions from rural carriers and serious delays of essential items due to alleged prioritization of third-party packages. This prompted Congressman Stauber to inquire about these complaints to the USPS, whose response to the inquiry was insufficient and dismissive. Since then, Congressman Stauber introduced the Rural Mail Delivery Improvement Act with Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). This legislation requires the USPS to implement best practices to fix their delivery of service. Furthermore, Congressman Stauber introduced the Modifying Allocations to Improve Local Service (MAIL) Act. This legislation redirects $3 billion from the … 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:43:57Z

Gensler: Uh, leadership comes from a lot of things, but the top matters a lot. Emmer: It’s a yes. The answer is “yes,” sir. But under your leadership at the SEC, it appears that you expect political allegiance not just from the political appointees, but also from the civil servants you hired, isn’t that correct? Gensler: That is not correct, sir. Emmer: Well sir, that’s yet another deliberate distortion of the truth. The House has obtained emails between you and your now Director of Trading and Markets. He interviewed with you and then sent you a follow-up email reassuring you, sir, that he aligned with your political views. So, that to me seems like you expect political allegiance from the people that you hire as civil servants at the SEC. The way you hire and the culture you require encourages your staff to have loyalty to you, above the law, and above the mission of the SEC. Which brings us to the Debt Box case in Utah where your attorneys, who no doubt heard your anti-crypto rhetoric – which is not based in law – went out and deliberately lied to a court in order to effectuate the commands from their Chair to prosecute crypto companies. Chair Gensler, do you know of any other time in history where the SEC has been sanctioned by a court for material misrepresentation? Gensler: First, if I might say when we hire folks… Emmer: Reclaiming my time, sir. The answer to that question is, “No, it has never happened.” But let me ask you another one – does the fact that we’re talking about this today even slightly embarrass you? In March, Congressman Emmer sent a letter to Director of National Drug Control Policy, Shannon Kelly, urging her to include Stearns County in the HIDTA Program. The HIDTA Program assists federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies working to address regional drug trafficking threats and reduce illegal drug production. “After many conversations with law enforcement officials in Stearns County, there is a clear and immediate need for additional resources to combat the illegal drugs pouring into our communities. With this designation, Stearns County will be better equipped to save lives, reduce risks, and remove barriers to effective intervention. We are proud to have played a role in securing this designation and look forward to our continued collaboration with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to ensure they have the resources they need to fight the drug epidemic impacting so many Minnesota communities,” Congressman Emmer said. “Unfortunately, Stearns County's location in Central Minnesota allows us to be a hub or distribution point for the trafficking of controlled substances. We have seen an increase in methamphetamine over the years along with a recent explosion of Fentanyl pills in our area. With that comes the trafficking throughout Minnesota but also the tragedy of overdoses. Sometimes fatally," Stearns County Sheriff Steve Soyka said. “Fortunately, this designation and program will open doors for us to better investigate and collaborate with other agencies to combat the drug problem and to hold those accountable who poison our communities with controlled substances,” Soyka added. Chairman Gensler’s tenure at the SEC has been characterized by regulation by enforcement and has resulted in widespread uncertainty and fewer opportunities for Americans.” Background: Digital asset airdrops incentivize participation in blockchain-based applications and are an important part of the continued development, initial governance, and ultimate decentralization of blockchain networks. However, due to the muddied regulatory status of airdrops in the United States, developers often block Americans from claiming tokens in an airdrop, even when those individuals may have been building on the network or otherwise contributing to its development. By prohibiting Americans from participating in airdrops, the SEC’s policies are blocking Americans from participating in these projects, effectively ensuring these projects are not designed by Americans or influenced by American values. Labeling Pro-Life organizations as threats challenges servicemembers’ moral obligation to defend and protect even the smallest among us," the lawmakers continued. The proposed rule could negatively impact hiring, maintenance, and operations at Minnesota fire departments. Minnesota boasts over 700 volunteer fire departments, saving taxpayers billions of dollars annually while providing reliable first-responder services. This letter comes as these departments struggle to recruit and retain qualified firefighters to protect Minnesota communities. "In Minnesota, more than 96% of our firefighters are volunteers, and this proposed rule, if finalized, would override current safety guidelines, significantly escalate spending, and strain volunteer firefighters at a time when staffing levels are critical," the letter says. "Therefore, we would urge USHA to reconsider implementing the proposed rule to ensure the sustained viability of Minnesota's volunteer fire departments." Background: The proposed OSHA rule, released on February 5, 2024, seeks to update the Fire Brigades Standard, which has seen minimal updates since its creation in 1980. The proposed rule, if finalized, would override current safety guidelines, significantly escalate spending, and strain volunteer firefighters at a time when staffing levels are critical. OSHA’s estimates suggest these new standards will cost the average volunteer fire department $14,551 annually, but this dramatically underestimates the true financial impact of these new regulations. The proposed rule could negatively impact hiring, maintenance, and operations at Minnesota fire departments. “Minnesotans rely on the dedication and bravery of our volunteer firefighters, who make up more than 96% of our firefighting force,” said Congressman Emmer. “The proposed OSHA regulations threaten to impose significant financial and operational burdens on their departments, potentially undermining their ability to serve our communities effectively.” Minnesota boasts over 700 volunteer fire departments, saving taxpayers billions of dollars annually while providing reliable first-responder services. Emmer’s letter comes as these departments struggle to recruit and retain qualified firefighters to protect Minnesota communities. Background: The proposed OSHA rule, released on February 5, 2024, seeks to update the Fire Brigades Standard, which has seen minimal updates since its creation in 1980. Non-essential equipment upgrade mandates would cost struggling local fire departments more than $3,000 per firefighter and additional administrative compliance costs could add another $4,800 per year to operating costs. These substantial costs could severely impact firefighter readiness and department recruitment and retention initiatives for volunteer fire departments, which do not receive the same funding as larger departments. "President Biden's open border policies have allowed over 12 million illegal immigrants into this country, dramatically increasing the threat of fraud in this upcoming election. As this administration continues to bus and fly in illegal immigrants across this country on the taxpayers' dime, coupled with states allowing illegal immigrants to receive drivers licenses and other state and federal benefits, we have the very real and serious concern that non-citizens will have ample opportunity to illegally register to vote in federal elections. This is fundamentally un-American and undemocratic. Only Americans should decide the outcome of U.S. elections. "This border crisis has made it all the more important to secure the voter registration process, which is why I was proud to support the SAVE Act. Commonsense legislation like the SAVE Act will preserve the right to vote for American citizens, safeguarding our democracy." "Last school year, Jewish students at the University of Minnesota faced harassment and intimidation as the campus was taken over by radical, pro-Hamas activists. The University of Minnesota is now on record endorsing a concept that has been used to justify terrorism and the antisemitic view that Israel should not exist; this is unacceptable and needs to be addressed,” Congressman Emmer said. “We look forward to hearing from President Cunningham on her plans to ensure the University of Minnesota is a safe and welcoming environment for Jewish students,” Congressman Emmer concluded. Background: Following a troubling school year marked by harassment and intimidation from pro-Hamas activists, Congressman Emmer demands President Cunningham outlines her plans to ensure the safety of Jewish students. The letter goes on to ask President Cunningham to rectify and address the University’s endorsement of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s “Thawabit,” which advocates for the destruction of the State of Israel. This letter follows an inquiry Congressman Emmer sent to interim University President Jeff Ettinger in April asking for his plan to keep Jewish students safe following the pro-terrorist, antisemitic protests that unfolded on campus. "I am heartbroken to hear the news about Arlington's facility closing because, now almost 40 families need to find new homes for their loved ones, homes that will likely take them further away from the lives they have built in the Arlington community," said Rep. Fischbach (MN-07). "This facility has been working to overcome staffing challenges for over a year, increasing wages to attract candidates, offering bonuses, and bringing in temporary workers to fill gaps. The shortage of qualified workers available to hire led to a situation where closure became the only option to make sure residents can continue getting high quality care. "This is a problem that will be made worse when Biden's federally mandated nursing staff ratio goes into effect. His administration has chosen an arbitrary quota for facilities to meet that does not guarantee quality of care, will harm rural facilities like this one, and will do nothing to actually solve the staffing shortage. We need to be focused on recruitment, retention, and building the nursing pipeline, not tying the hands of our nursing and assisted living homes. I want to thank the Arlington facility for all the work they have done to keep their doors open as long as they could and for all they are doing to help these residents find new homes." Background: The Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a new rule requiring minimum staffing standards for long-term care facilities. This rule was issued despite the fact that a report commissioned by CMS itself expressed reservations about this rule. Most notably, this report said there was "no single staffing level that would guarantee quality care." Once this disaster declaration is approved, the federal government will be able to provide disaster assistance for various recovery and rebuilding efforts. “We write to you in strong support of the state of Minnesota’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration under the Stafford Act to assist communities that are working to recover from severe storms and flooding. These natural disasters have caused significant damage, and we ask that you quickly grant approval for federal disaster assistance,” said the lawmakers. The lawmakers continued, “Time and time again, Minnesotans have stepped up to support their neighbors after natural disasters. When flood waters rise and homes are damaged, volunteers and neighbors are quick to fill sandbags, clean up debris, and lend a hand to those in need. The Ammunition Supply Chain Act, championed by Congressman Emmer, works to identify and address vulnerabilities in the nation's ammunition supply chain, ensuring the United States has uninterrupted access to an abundant supply of ammunition. "The inclusion of our Ammunition Supply Chain Act in this year's NDAA is a significant step forward in fortifying our national defense capabilities," said Congressman Emmer. "Especially in the wake of numerous global conflicts, it is imperative that we guarantee our service members are equipped with a reliable and resilient domestic ammunition supply." Background: The increased use of ammunition and artillery in the Middle East and Eastern Europe has led to a global shortage of essential materials used in ammunition production. This shortage has raised serious concern over the United States’ military readiness and has resulted in skyrocketing domestic ammunition prices, limiting Americans’ ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights. Additional information on the Ammunition Supply Chain Act can be found here. The full legislative text of the Ammunition Supply Chain Act can be found here. Jesse grew up in Blaine and served our nation honorably in the U.S. Army. After his military service, Jesse served as a youth leader at his church. A proud father and husband, he owned and operated a business with his wife Bethany and cherished every moment spent with their son Isaac. These funds were made available through the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. “Recently, I’ve heard concerning local reports of mail not being delivered because carriers are spending the majority of their day delivering third-party packages, carriers not being paid for the actual time it takes them to complete their route, and high staff turnover due to unfair working conditions. Sadly, thanks to a policy enacted by the Biden Administration, the USPS is more focused on spending billions of dollars on a new fleet of electric vehicles instead of training and paying its employees properly. Given the issues plaguing the USPS coupled with the unreliability of electric vehicles in cold weather climates, I believe these funds must be better spent. That’s why I am proud to introduce the MAIL Act to require the USPS to redirect the $3 billion in funding to better support rural carriers and customers.” 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:11:47Z

While we have this dedicated week for our men and women in blue, each day is an opportunity to address the challenges law enforcement face and where gaps can be filled. We recently invited every sheriff and police chief in Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District for a roundtable chat at the Wright County Law Enforcement Center. A dozen members of law enforcement attended, from Ramsey to Chaska, from St. Cloud to Howard Lake, and shared what’s working, what isn’t, and their ideas for solutions. For me and our staff, it was an opportunity to listen and devise a plan of legislative action. Illegal immigration, and its side effects, were a main topic of discussion. As a result of President Biden’s handling of the border, millions of illegal immigrants have entered our country, along with thousands of pounds of fentanyl. The Drug Enforcement Administration took more than 2.5 million lethal doses of fentanyl off Minnesota streets in 2023 alone. Wright County Sheriff Sean Deringer has seen the effects of the Biden border crisis firsthand. The sheriff described fentanyl overdoses as “off-the-charts,” and mentioned that their county medical examiner has weekly cases which involve either accidental overdoses or suicide overdoses. In 2022, nearly all of our state’s synthetic opioid-related deaths involved fentanyl. When I asked the panel where the fentanyl was coming from, St. Cloud Chief of Police Jeff Oxton responded, “It’s all coming from Mexico.” Cities like St. Cloud are becoming border cities despite being over 1,500 miles away from the Texas-Mexico border. Closing the border and enforcing our laws is step one. At the same time, we can enact legislation like the … 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:11:47Z

The USPS currently disagrees with two of the five recommendations made by the OIG. “I have been deeply concerned by the reports about postal issues in Bemidji and Greater Minnesota,” said Congressman Stauber. “Rural Minnesotans rely heavily on mail delivery and any disruption in this service is unacceptable because it can have a detrimental impact on people’s businesses, livelihoods, and health. The USPS has been having problems for a while and I have repeatedly asked their leadership to fix these issues, but my requests seem to fall on deaf ears. Enough is enough. Decisive action must be taken immediately to improve the efficiency and reliability of mail delivery, which is why I am proud to introduce legislation requiring USPS to enact all five of the recommendations made by the OIG after their comprehensive audit of the Bemidji Post Office. I thank Senator Klobuchar for joining me in this effort.” "Minnesotans rely on the Postal Service to deliver their prescriptions, Social Security checks, and more, and they need and deserve timely service. The recent Inspector General's report that I called for confirmed significant delays and service disruptions for those who rely on the Bemidji Post Office," said Senator Klobuchar. "That's why Rep. Stauber and I are leading bipartisan legislation that requires the Postal Service to act on all of the Inspector General's recommendations, which will improve operations for Bemidji residents, those in the surrounding communities and beyond." In a vote of 216 - 192, the House of Representatives passed Emmer’s bill that would prohibit the Federal Reserve from issuing a surveillance-style central bank digital currency (CBDC) that could give the federal government the ability to monitor and control individual Americans’ spending habits. “For more than two years, we have worked to educate, grow support, and pass this important legislation, which prevents unelected bureaucrats from issuing a financial surveillance tool to fundamentally undermine our American values. My legislation ensures that the United States' digital currency policy remains in the hands of the American people so that any development of digital money reflects our values of privacy, individual sovereignty, and free market competitiveness. Prior to his resolution’s passage, Congressman Stauber spoke in its support on the House Floor. He said (in part): “This resolution acknowledges that they respond to the calls for service, no matter who is on the other end of the line. It acknowledges that the job has only become more dangerous and more mentally and physically exhausting, yet they still show up for work, not knowing if they have kissed their families goodbye for the last time. “Importantly, this resolution also acknowledges that we, in this chamber, set the standard. We are the ones who must demonstrate a respect for the rule of law and a respect for our law enforcement officers if we are to expect the public to do the same. We must do so in our actions, our conversations, and even the policies we consider. “Bills that never become law can have the most staggering ripple effect. They can persuade local municipalities to implement soft-on-crime policies and strip law enforcement of resources. They can encourage the public to cheat, steal, and disrespect fellow community members. They can cause good, noble people to change their minds about entering the profession I love so much. “Actions have consequences, and our communities are suffering as a result. But let us take this moment to learn, to change for the better. We can rise to the moment, stand with our law enforcement officers, reestablish law and order, and bring safety back to our communities.” Watch Stauber’s full remarks HERE. Stauber is a cosponsor of this critical legislation. “Earlier this month, President Biden signaled that he would defy the will of Congress by conditionally withholding weapons to Israel in order to appease the radical pro-Hamas wing of the Democrat Party,” said Stauber. “Biden’s attempts to abandon our top ally in the Middle East during their darkest hour is not only despicable, but it also emboldens violent terrorists and displays weakness on the world stage. That’s why I am proud to support critical legislation that will hold the White House accountable and ensure that military aid is delivered to Israel without delay. This bill passed the House with bipartisan support, and I now call on Leader Schumer to bring it to the Senate Floor for consideration. Israel has a right to defend itself and anyone who attempts to prevent them from doing so is siding with Hamas, a barbaric terrorist organization that has murdered hundreds of Israelis, raped women, committed unspeakable crimes against babies and the elderly, and continues to hold both Israelis and Americans hostages.” Last week, President Biden threatened to withhold weapons and munitions from Israel if they entered Rafah, a major Hamas stronghold in Gaza. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-06T18:12:30Z

"This administration has been insistent on moving forward with this rule, despite the fact that a report commissioned by CMS itself found that there is no single staffing level that guarantees quality care. They also know that the new mandated ratio will force facilities to turn away patients or even close their doors altogether. I hope to work with HHS and stakeholders on policies that support recruitment and retention to solve the ongoing nursing shortage in this country." “This rule could not come at a worse time. I regularly hear from my constituents about healthcare worker shortages, and a one-size-fits-all ‘solution’ will only exacerbate the problem. Since it was proposed, I have continuously urged the Biden administration to reconsider and think about the Americans whose access will be threatened. Rather than bending over backward for people who broke the law, President Biden needs to stop playing politics, protect our hard-working citizens, and get serious about the immigration crisis happening in this country.” "In yet another slap in the face to the rule of law, President Biden is now offering free healthcare to illegal migrants—a move that is not only unacceptable but illegal,” said Congressman Pfluger. Held during Small Business Week, the Small Business Showcase highlights small businesses from across the nation, recognizing their role in driving economic growth and fostering innovation. “Minnesota is home to more than half a million small businesses that create good-paying jobs and drive our state's economy. We were proud to showcase AVA's workforce and innovative approach to housing needs, and thank them for the great work they do to support Albertville and Wright County,” Congressman Emmer said. "AVA stands out as a remarkably innovative small business which is catapulting property development to a new level. The efficiency and utility they're bringing to bear on the market is adding tremendous value at a time when the industry needs such a boost," State Representative Walter Hudson (HD30A) said. “We have enjoyed meeting with Representative Emmer, and being part of the small business showcase. The opportunity the event provided to explore working together to grow the impact of businesses in Minnesota and around the country were numerable,” said Brian Nicholson, AVA. Background Earlier this Congress, Congressman Emmer introduced the Main Street Growth Act, which aims to create jobs and improve capital formation opportunities for small businesses. You can read more about the Main Street Growth Act here. Advanced Volumetric Alliance designs, engineers, and manufactures full volumetric modular units, focused on multi-family living, senior living, and the hospitality industry. Volumetric construction involves the joining of factory-finished modules to form a complete building, such as an apartment building or senior living facility. The company opened a new, 180,000-square-foot, all-indoor, manufacturing facility in the Spring of 2022 which Congressman Emmer visited in early 2023. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:01:11Z

Sadly, anytime an attempt to delist is made, well-funded activists return to challenge these efforts with litigation. This roadblock has placed an enormous burden on my constituents, many of whom are concerned with the decimated deer population, the loss of expensive livestock, and the threat this species poses to family pets. We cannot continue to allow activist judges and radical environmentalists to weaponize the Endangered Species Act at the expense of other species and the communities we represent. That’s why I am proud to support critical legislation to delist the gray wolf and ensure this action is not subject to judicial review, eliminating the back-and-forth we have seen play out in the courts in recent years. It is past time to return management of this species to the states, so they can create responsible wolf management plans that meet the unique needs of their respective state.” Watch Stauber speak in support of this legislation HERE. On Friday, May 3rd, Stauber will host fellow House Natural Resources Committee colleagues in Sandstone, Minnesota for a field hearing titled “How Many Wolves Are Enough? Examining the Need to Delist the Gray Wolf.” This hearing is open to the press, so please reach out to Kelsey.Emmer@mail.house.gov for more information. BACKGROUND: Gray wolf populations are thriving in each geographic region where they are located. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources estimates the state’s gray wolf population to be roughly around 2,700, which greatly exceeds the Endangered Species Act’s (ESA) recovery goal. The Alaska’s Right to Produce Act will reverse the Biden Department of the Interior (DOI)’s decision to prohibit oil and gas development on 13 million acres within the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A). It will also reinstate the lawfully awarded leases that the Biden DOI cancelled within the non-wilderness Coastal Plain of the Artic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). “From Minnesota to Alaska, President Biden has repeatedly prevented the responsible production of America’s abundance of natural resources. First it was the enactment of a mining ban in northern Minnesota, and now he has turned his focus to Alaska, where he has enacted 63 sanctions to block resource development. His most recent decision to limit energy development on Alaska’s North Slope was a devastating blow to hardworking Alaskans, particularly Alaska’s Native communities who were not consulted in this decision. On top of that, it will further cement our reliance on foreign adversaries and drive-up energy costs for American families who are already struggling to fill up their tanks and heat their homes. That’s why I am proud to see the House pass this much needed legislation to reverse Biden’s disastrous decisions and move Alaska’s communities one step closer to developing their God-given natural resources.” During a House Natural Resources Committee hearing, Congressman Stauber had the chance to question Biden’s DOI Secretary Deb Haaland and ask why this Administration made these anti-energy decisions without even hearing from the Native communities who would be most impacted. Watch the full exchange HERE. BACKGROUND: Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), the DOI was required to hold two lease sales in the 1002 Area of ANWR, the first by December 2021 and the second by December 2024. This legislation will overturn the Biden Administration’s mineral withdrawal of 225,000 acres in the Superior National Forest, restore long-held mineral leases, and ensure timely reviews of Mine Plans of Operation. “Today’s House passage of my Superior National Forest Restoration Act is great news for our state and nation. Instead of flat-out rejecting any mining project from developing the Duluth Complex located within the Superior National Forest, it is important to allow project-specific reviews that are based on the facts and science to take place. My legislation will remove the obstacles put in place by the Biden Administration, allowing our skilled miners to prove that they are ready to safely deliver Minnesota’s mineral wealth to the nation using the best environmental and labor standards in the world. As the demand for minerals continues to skyrocket, we must invest in mineral production here at home rather than continue our dependence on child slave labor and environmentally damaging adversaries overseas. I urge Senator Schumer to bring this important job-creating legislation to the Senate Floor immediately.” Watch Stauber speak on his legislation on the House Floor HERE. BACKGROUND: The Duluth Complex, located within northern Minnesota’s Superior National Forest, is a world-class mineral deposit containing nearly 8 billion tons of copper, nickel, cobalt, and platinum group metals. These minerals will soon see huge upswings in demand due to their use in battery storage, electric vehicles (EVs), and other rapidly expanding sectors. Despite the potential economic benefit to Minnesota’s Eighth District and growing demand for minerals, the Biden Administration has taken multiple actions to prevent the responsible development of the Duluth Complex. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T20:47:55Z

Of this legislation, Congressman Stauber said, “As a Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I am proud to introduce legislation that will empower local governments to complete much needed public transportation projects on-time and on-budget.” Stauber introduced this legislation along with Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, who served on the House-Senate conference committee that negotiated the FAST Act that became law in 2015. Congressman Cohen stated, “This commonsense update of the FAST Act to reflect changing procurement practices will assure that local governments can use funding that they already have more efficiently. I am pleased to be an original cosponsor of the measure.” In Minnesota, companies like Sourcewell stand ready to connect local governments with contracts that are ready to use with vetted vendors, government regulations, and completed solicitation processes. He requested clarification on the hiring eligibility of individuals aged 16 to 18 for nursing assistant roles, highlighted the success of Minnesota's policy allowing young individuals to work in these positions, and proposed adopting a similar approach nationally to address staffing shortages in VA facilities. After voting concluded, Stauber issued the following statement. “Thanks to President Biden’s weakness and appeasement on the global stage, our adversaries have become emboldened, and we are seeing an increase in violent conflict around the globe. Under Biden’s watch, Russia has invaded Ukraine, China is preparing to occupy Taiwan, and last weekend, Iran directly attacked Israel for the first time in history. The threats facing Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine are their own unique and separate issues, which is why I was glad for the ability to address them individually today. “Israel is our top ally in the Middle East, and they are engaged in conflicts on four separate fronts. They are fighting the Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthi terror groups, as well as Iran, the largest state sponsor of terrorism. I voted to provide aid to Israel to help them stop the spread of terrorism and defeat enemies who seek to wipe them off the face of the Earth. Israel is fighting for its very existence, and we cannot abandon them. “In an ominous New Years address, Chinese President Xi Jinping asserted that 2024 was the year that he intends to invade Taiwan. I voted to provide aid to Taiwan to deter China from starting this fight, in the hopes that this will spare human lives and prevent further aggression down the line. “While I wholeheartedly support Ukraine in their fight against Russia, I voted against providing another round of funding for Ukraine. The United States has already provided over $100 billion in funding for this war, and we should not continue to assume the primary fiscal responsibility. Unfortunately, there has been insufficient transparency surrounding the funding and equipment the American taxpayers have sent so far, and European countries have failed to take on their fair share of the funding for this war. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T20:47:55Z

The legislation aims to ensure the resilience and efficiency of our nation’s ammunition manufacturing supply chain. Senator Jim Risch (R-ID) introduced companion legislation in the United States Senate. “As threats to our nation’s security evolve, it is more important than ever to take proactive measures to secure our ammunition supply chain. This is not only about enhancing our military readiness but also supporting American manufacturing and ensuring law-abiding Minnesotans and Americans can exercise their Second Amendment rights,” Congressman Emmer said. "This administration creates as many ridiculous hurdles as possible to restrict law-abiding gun owners’ access to affordable guns and ammunition,” said Senator Risch. “The Ammunition Supply Chain Act forces transparency from the Biden administration about the status of our domestic ammunition supply chain. This is vital to protect our right to bear arms and to ensure our military has the ammunition it needs to protect our country.” Background Due to a rise in the use of ammunition and artillery in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, countries around the world are battling shortages of key materials needed for ammunition production, resulting in domestic ammunition prices skyrocketing, limiting millions of Americans’ ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights. We also write to inform you that we will be requesting the House Judiciary Committee conduct an investigation on this matter. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty has weaponized her position against law enforcement. She ignored an independent use-of-force expert chosen by her own office, who stated that Trooper Londregan acted as a “reasonable officer” would have. The fact that Trooper Londregan is still being charged with second-degree murder, along with other charges, after this statement from the prosecution’s own expert can lead us to only one conclusion; this prosecution is politically motivated. We’ve seen the tragic consequences of the denigration of this noble profession. In 2023, 378 officers were shot in the line of duty, the highest number since the Fraternal Order of Police began collecting this data. Too many of these deaths hit close to home here in Minnesota. The split second that officers have to make life-and-death decisions has often been clouded by the fear of political persecution, like what is happening to Trooper Londregan right now. Enough is enough. The uncertainty that this frivolous case puts in officers' minds could cost them their lives. It is time for us as a nation to stop demonizing law enforcement. The Firearm Due Process Protection will provide important recourse to Americans whose Second Amendment freedoms are being restricted through no fault of their own. We are grateful to our over fifty colleagues who stand in support of this common-sense fix.” “Every year, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) falsely denies thousands of Americans their constitutional rights because of clerical errors contained within the system’s records. Rep. Tom Emmer’s commonsense legislation would provide law-abiding Americans a course of action to correct these errors in a timely manner while holding the FBI and its NICS system accountable to Congress. This legislation will go a long way to ensuring that every Americans’ constitutional rights are protected,” said Randy Kozuch, Executive Director of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action. “Rep. Emmer’s bill would help protect gun owners from the broken National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The system disproportionately targets minorities and individuals with common last names, either rejecting background checks due to cultural spellings of names or falsely flagging individuals as criminals because they share a common last name. To remediate this failure, Rep. Emmer’s bill allows for affected individuals to seek recourse through litigation,” said Aidan Johnston, Director of Federal Affairs for the Gun Owners of America. Of his legislation, Congressman Stauber said, “For too long, an arbitrary cap on the cost of doing business has put engineering firms in Minnesota at a disadvantage. I am proud to introduce the Parity in Engineering Act to remove this barrier to business success, and I thank the American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota for working with me on this critical issue.” Jonathan Curry, Executive Director of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota said, “We are grateful to Congressman Stauber for introducing legislation that will be hugely beneficial to Minnesota’s engineering firms. By eliminating this obstacle that has decreased competition and limited innovation, this legislation will go a long way in keeping engineering jobs in Minnesota and ensure MnDOT has access to the most qualified individuals and firms working on our state's infrastructure projects. We applaud this legislative effort!” BACKGROUND: Prior to the mid-1990s, states had a patchwork of policies for the procurement, administration, and auditing of contracts for engineering and design services. Many states placed overhead cap rates on engineering firms that did not reflect the true cost of business. Through the passage of several pieces of legislation, Congress mandated that states must follow common federal procurement requirements to guide how their respective Department of Transportation (DOT) contracts for engineering services on federal-aid projects. However, an exemption precluded Minnesota and West Virginia from following these federal requirements. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T20:47:55Z

Michelle Fischbach (MN-07) joined Rep. Randy Feenstra (IA-4) in a letter to President Biden opposing his proposed tax hikes on family farms and small businesses. In opening their letter, the lawmakers explained that “We write today on behalf of Americans across this nation that own and operate small businesses and family farms, and the employees and customers they serve. Since the founding of this nation, America’s farmers and small businesses have been the backbone of our economy. Unfortunately, revenue proposals outlined in your FY2025 Budget Request will significantly burden these hardworking Americans. This is the third year in a row in which your Administration has sought to fuel its reckless spending agenda on the backs of family farms and small businesses.” “In January, the Death Tax Repeal Act was introduced in the House of Representatives with 161 original cosponsors, recognizing both the economic damage the Death Tax causes and the simple fact that treating death as a taxable event is inherently wrong. In contrast, your budget proposals related to like-kind exchanges, stepped-up basis, capitals gains, and estate taxes would raise hundreds of billions of dollars of taxes on the backs of America’s farmers and small businesses to help pay your massive $7.3 trillion dollar budget. By proposing this transfer tax and letting the enhanced estate tax exemption level expire, you are essentially turning the capital gains tax into a Double Death Tax. With so much of our nation’s agricultural economy dependent on the transferring of family farms to the next generation, it is critical that we make this transition as easy and affordable as possible. Your budget proposals do precisely the opposite, and our family farms, agricultural communities, and the country as a whole will bear the consequences,” the lawmakers added. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T20:32:04Z

The full letter can be read here and below: Dear Governor Walz, We write to you today to express our outrage at the ongoing prosecution of State Trooper Ryan Londregan, and the continued attack on law enforcement officers. "I am so glad to see this bill moving forward to keep CMS from implementing this misguided nursing staff ratio rule that could hurt nursing home facilities all across Minnesota's Seventh District," said Rep. Fischbach (MN-07). "This administration has been insistent on moving forward with this rule, despite the fact that the industry is struggling to hire and that a report commissioned by CMS itself found that there is no single staffing level that guarantees quality care. They also know a mandated ratio could force facilities to turn away patients or even close their doors altogether. If they are not going to stop the implementation of this rule on their own, House Republicans will hold them accountable." This bill has the support of over 1,000 nursing home leaders and associations like LeadingAge and the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living. Background: The Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a new rule requiring minimum staffing standards for long-term care facilities. This rule was issued despite the fact that a report commissioned by CMS itself expressed reservations about this rule. Most notably, this report said there was "no single staffing level that would guarantee quality care." Congresswoman Fischbach (MN-07) has been pushing back against this rule since it was first proposed by the administration. Last year, she questioned HHS Secretary Becerra about the impacts the proposed rule would have on rural America sent a letter to the Administrator of CMS encouraging alternatives. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T20:32:04Z

It ignored the frustration of union miners ready to get shovels in the ground and develop the critical minerals necessary for our way of life, while providing for their families. “Biden’s address did not alleviate the worries of our service members and their families, who fear that his weakness on the world stage will result in more endless wars. The bill, which was introduced Monday, aims to cut down on the number of “major rules,” or rules with an economic impact of greater than $100 million, by requiring every major rule over 10 years old to receive Congressional approval or be terminated. Here is what conservative leaders have to say about the Sunset Act: “As the size of the federal government has ballooned, the freedoms of everyday Americans have been crushed by overbearing regulations and out-of-control spending. Rules that impact voters’ daily lives and cost taxpayers billions of dollars shouldn’t exist in perpetuity without congressional approval. Whip Emmer’s Sunset Act would start the long-overdue process of dismantling the bloated administrative state and returning power to the American people.”—Ryan Walker, Executive Vice President, Heritage Action “Under the Biden administration the administrative state has vastly increased its power. Last month, the House of Representatives passed the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act, which will restore manufacturers’ and Minnesota businesses’ ability to deduct research and development costs from their taxes in the year they are incurred. Emmer said, “Every dollar spent on research and development costs for Minnesota businesses is an investment in our state’s future. The next big idea will probably come from Main Street; we must incentivize up-and-coming businesses to grow here at home. We were grateful to spend time hearing from the business owners and employees that would be supported by a strong R&D tax credit.” Emmer started the day with a visit to the Elk River-based Sportech, whose 350 employees design, develop and manufacture accessories for sport vehicles like snowmobiles. He also visited the 100% employee-owned Resonant Cavity in Minneapolis, which develops software that can provide studio-quality audio processing on a smartphone or tablet. “Restoring the ability of companies to expense payroll for engineers and software developers will support high-paying jobs, economic growth, and the continued success of the American tech sector,” said Patrick Flanagan, CEO of Resonant Cavity. “Without it, small American tech firms will struggle to compete against foreign rivals and against larger, better-capitalized incumbents. Whip Emmer’s backing of the bipartisan Tax Relief bill demonstrates a commitment to see small tech businesses in Minnesota thrive and grow." Jim Glomstad, President of Sportech said, “We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Congressman Emmer for taking time to visit Sportech and engaging with our leaders on topics impacting MN businesses. We look forward to his continued support of Sportech, the manufacturing industry and MN employers.” You can read more a… 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T20:21:00Z

Recently, DFL legislators introduced the North STAR Act, legislation that would give Minnesota ‘Sanctuary State’ status, thus prohibiting local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement and banning state government officials from enforcing civil immigration laws. The letter reads (in part), “The “Sanctuary City/State” experiment has proven to be an utter failure. These states and municipalities have become overrun with illegal immigrants and have used public schools, recreation centers, and parks to shelter these individuals. Now, residents in certain parts of the country are being asked to shelter illegal immigrants in their homes. We would like to remind you of the terrorist recently caught in Minneapolis who entered our country illegally through the southern border. Minnesotans do not need more crime and unknown terrorists in their towns and cities. “This experiment is also costly and dangerous; “Sanctuary” status costs taxpayers billions of dollars. Minnesota is already one of the highest-taxed states in the nation. We advise you against increasing the economic stress of the citizenry by gifting their hard-earned tax dollars to illegal immigrants.” Read the full letter HERE. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T20:21:00Z
