Blunt Touts Tax Credits During Visit Tours Historic, Renovated Businesses 2017-12-31 2017 2017-12 Republican House MO Roy Blunt B000575 www.blunt.senate.gov     legacy Monte Miller On the heels of a historic federal tax cut, U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, his wife Abigail and son Charlie, visited Washington Wednesday to tour two local businesses which have already benefited from federal tax credits. During the frigid visit Blunt told a gathering of city and business leaders Washington was one of his favorite cities to visit and it was great to see businesses taking advantage of historic federal tax credits to make projects work. Blunt made the comments at the recently renovated dentist office, which now houses the Bryan Haynes studio and gallery on Second Street. The 134-year-old building was recently renovated and Haynes opened his studio there in mid-November. Before the warmth of the studio, Blunt visited a building on Front Street being renovated by Rick and Karen Marquart to eventually house a Mexican restaurant and other businesses and apartments. In a past life, the building was home to one of the several corn cob pipe factories in the county and a hat company. Missouri uses more historic tax credits than any other state, Blunt said. There were even more tax credits placed in the big tax bill that was just passed. Blunt also addressed some of the criticisms the new tax bill has received from its opponents that it will only benefit a certain percentage of the population. The more wrong people were, the louder they got, Blunt said. Half of the population is not paying any income tax. You cant get any better that. The proof is in the pudding, he said. Beginning next year, people will have more money to take home. A family of four making $73,000 per year will see about a $2,000 more to take home. He added opponents argued $200 per month was not much money. Tell someone who doesnt have $200 that, Blunt said. We have to look at this more as a tax cut instead of tax reform. He added the tax cuts will serve a twofold purpose by putting more money in individuals pockets and helping businesses create more jobs with the money they are saving in taxes each year. … 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

The year kicked off with President Trumps inauguration. It was great to see so many Missourians travel to Washington for the historic event. Shortly after, President Trump made one of his biggest announcements of the past year when he nominated Neil Gorsuch to serve as the next Supreme Court justice. I firmly believe Judge Gorsuch holds the same conservative values we in Missouri do, and he understands the role of the Supreme Court is to enforce the law, not create it from the bench. On August 21, Missourians witnessed a once in a generation event: the solar eclipse. The last time the United States witnessed a total eclipse was in 1979. Now an entire generation of Americans have experienced this phenomenon and have their own stories to share with family and friends for years to come. The solar eclipse not only brought worldwide attention to Mid-Missouri, it also highlighted all that our state has to offer. Over the last year, the House has made historic use of the Congressional Review Act (CRA), a tool that gives Congress the power to invalidate a rule or regulation from the executive branch within 60 days of it being issued. I am pleased to report the House passed 15 CRAs and President Trump signed 11 of those into law. The White House estimated that by repealing those 11 regulations alone we will save $10 billion over 20 years. One example is the Social Security Services Second Amendment restrictions. Earlier this year, Congress overturned an Obama-era rule that would increase scrutiny on up to 4.2 million law-abiding Americans attempting to purchase f… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

The bill now heads to the Presidents desk for signature. Scott, U.S. Representative Don Beyer and U.S. Representative G. K. Butterfield, former Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, led the introduction of similar legislation that passed the House of Representatives this Congress. This commission will be charged with recognizing and highlighting the resilience and cultural contributions of Africans and African Americans over 400 years. In August 1619, some twenty enslaved Africans were brought ashore in an English-built, Dutch flag privateer at Point Comfort, Virginia, on the site of what is now Fort Monroe National Monument in the City of Hampton. Similar commissions have been established to commemorate Americas English roots through the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, Virginia, as well as its Hispanic roots through the 450th anniversary of the founding of St. Augustine, Florida. We would not be the nation we are today without the innumerable contributions African Americans have made over the past 400 years. America is a stronger, better nation when all of our citizens learn, understand, and appreciate our history. The creation of the 400 Years of African American History Commission provides us the opportunity to honor African American culture and educate current and future generations about the impact it has had on our nation, Blunt said. This commission will be tasked with telling 400 years of the African American story. It is a story of achievement and beauty, poets and presidents, pain and degradation… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

In his remarks, Blunt discussed the newly-enacted Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which allows families to keep more of what they earn.He also touted the Senates efforts to roll back excessive regulations, and underscored the need to continue working to support our nations veterans and service members, and their families. Following are excerpts from Blunts remarks: On Providing Tax Cuts to Hardworking Families: Madam President, we are quickly approaching the end of this year, and I think it is a good time to reflect on what has been done this year. Certainly, the Senate and the Trump administration have been able to do a number of things that are really going to have a significant impact on hard-working families. Yesterday, we sent the most significant tax reform legislation in more than three decades to the President's desk. If you are a family of four earning about $73,000 this year and $73,000 next year, next year, your tax is going to be $2,000 less than it is this year. If you are a single parent with one child earning $41,000, next year your tax will be $1,300 less than it is this year. Now, some will say--as a matter of fact, I have heard it on the floor of the Senate--a few hundred dollars a month will not matter. Well, now that is clearly somebody who doesn't know how much a few hundred dollars a month or a few hundred dollars a year does matter. This bill will give us ways to compete that we don't have now. The bill also will provide Missouri families and other families more jobs and more opportunities because we are going to be more competitive. On Rolling Back Excessive Red Tape: The rolling back of red tape is one of the reasons that the economy in our country is already growing faster than it has in a decade. People saw the regulatory overreach. Most importantly, President Trump saw the regul… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

The houses in our communities are decorated with twinkling lights, children are anxiously awaiting Santa Clauss arrival, and cookies are being baked and decorated for various exchanges. The spirit of the season is in full swing, and we have much to be thankful for. It is my sincerest wish that we can all live the true message of Christmas: the message of peace and goodwill. I am always amazed by the generosity of Missourians who are quick to step up for those who need a little help, particularly all of the support charitable organizations receive during the holiday season. From the Christmas day dinners at local shelters to the Angel Trees at the local mall that provides gifts for children, Missourians know the spirit of Christmas. As we plan our Christmas and New Years celebrations with family and friends, please say a special prayer for our brave men and women in uniform who are sacrificing their lives and time with loved ones at Christmas to keep us safe. While many of us worry about weather delaying our relatives trip home by a few hours, these families must live Christmas day, and every day, knowing their loved ones may never come home at all. Their selflessness and love for our country serves as the purest embodiment of the Christmas spirit and sets an example for the rest of us. I hope everyone has a few days to rest and unwind with loved ones and friends. I encourage you to take a moment and enjoy traditions you may have or create new ones with your children and family. Today, the House kept the government doors open, provided critical funding for areas impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, and ensured the approximately nine million children who rely on CHIP have access to the care they deserve. Blunt, McCaskill Honor University of Central Missouri Champion Womens Soccer Team 2017-12-21 2017 2017-12 Republican House MO Roy Blunt B000575 www.blunt.senate.gov     legacy WASHINGTON Missouri U.S. Senators Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill introduced a resolution in the United States Senate honoring the University of Central Missouri womens soccer team on their NCAA Division II championship and undefeated season. The Central Missouri Jennies kicked it into high gear this season, finishing the year with a perfect record and earning the NCAA Division II title, said Blunt. Missourians are very proud of the hard work the Jennies put in to accomplish their record-setting season, and we wish them the best as they get ready to defend their title next year. The Jennies record-setting season and championship victory are accomplishments that make all of Missouri proud, McCaskill said. The kind of grit, skill, and determination it takes to not only win a national championship, but to do so with a perfect record to boot, is rare and remarkable. The University of Central Missouri womens soccer team completed an undefeated season with a 26-0 record, setting a new NCAA Division II womens soccer record for wins in a season, and tying the single-season record of 21 shut-outs. This is the first national championship in program history. Full text of the resolution here. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
https://graves.house.gov/media-center/e-newsletters/a-tax-cut-for-christmas A Tax Cut for Christmas 2017-12-20 2017 2017-12 Republican House MO Sam Graves G000546 graves.house.gov     legacy As a child, all I ever wanted for Christmas was a model airplane. Now that Im a little older, Id settle for a nice pair of socks and less taxes. While Im unable to deliver on the socks, Im pleased to say that Americans will receive a tax cut that will put more money in your pocket. This week, I voted to send President Trump the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a comprehensive tax reform plan that will cut taxes across the board for Missourians. I voted for this bill because it puts more money in your pocket, creates economic growth, and repeals parts of Obamacare. Moreover, both the standard deduction and the child tax credit are doubled! As a result, the average American family of four will receive an estimated tax cut of $2,059! Farmers and small businesses will benefit too by being able to fully expense their new equipment allowing them to grow and create jobs. And finally, we eliminate one of the most expensive parts of Obamacare, the individual mandate. In doing so, we are providing families with much-needed relief and flexibility to buy the health insurance that best meets their needs. For over 30 years, the tax code has grown out of control. Im proud to say weve now fixed that and replaced it with a tax code that is simpler and fairer for all; our economy is poised to thrive like never before! Lets be honest, it wasnt the governments money in the first place so its hard to call tax reform a gift. However, in keeping with the giving spirit, more families from all across Missouri will keep more of their money. For the first time in a generation, tax reform is finally here. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

It achieves all of the goals President Trump and Congress set out to accomplish and will get our nations economy back on track. I look forward to President Trump signing this legislation into law and giving Americans the best Christmas gift a government can give it citizens: more freedom and less taxes. f t # e 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed his legislation, H.R. 3312, the Systemic Risk Designation Improvement Act. share: f t U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed his legislation, H.R. 3312, the Systemic Risk Designation Improvement Act. Under the current regulatory framework for the designation of systemically important financial institutions, or SIFIs, risk is determined based solely on an institutions size. This approach fails to take into account many differences in business models or risks posed to the financial system. My legislation will remove the arbitrary approach taken and replace it with an analysis of the actual risk presented by a bank holding company to the financial system. It is time to take a pragmatic approach to the SIFI designation process and focus the Federal governments resources on legitimate threats to the U.S. financial system. I thank my colleagues for their bipartisan support of this important legislation and urge the Senate to move it quickly to the Presidents desk to be signed into law. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04) today praised the Houses passage of H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act. Today we voted to give American families a great Christmas present, Hartzler said. After the Senate votes on this historic tax reform, it will go to the President before Christmas, and families will see relief as soon as February. For too long, families have just gotten by instead of getting ahead this bill will change that by bringing jobs back to our country and increasing paychecks by growing the American economy. Main street businesses will be taxed at 21%, the lowest rate in years, which will allow them to hire more employees and pay them higher wages. Our bill will also lower tax rates for every income level, double the standard deduction, and add fairness to the tax code by closing loopholes for special interests. The tax bill is especially important to Missouri families. It increases the child tax credit from $1,000 to $2,000 and lowers tax rates for every income level in America. It also doubles the standard deduction, which 71% of Missourians use. The Tax Cuts & Jobs Act would also undo Obamacares individual mandate, which caused Missourians to pay $50 million in fines in 2015. Its important to give Missourians not only relief from high taxes, noted Hartzler, but also relief from government mandates that require them to buy health insurance they do not want nor can afford. Congresswoman Hartzler also successfully worked to ensure graduate student tuition waivers would not be taxed in the final bill and that the adoption tax credit would be maintained. The Tax Cuts & Jobs Act will: lower tax rates for every income level; double the standard deduction; double the child tax credit; repeal Obamacare's individual mandate; make American businesses competitive again by lowering the corporate tax rate to 21%; maintain a modified mortgage interest deduction; maintain medical expense deductions; give tax credits to companies that provide paid family or medical leave… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

"In 2012, the people of Missouri's 2nd Congressional District sent me to Congress, and I promised them that I would find a way for families to keep more of their hard-earned money. Today, we are delivering on that promise and no media hyperbole or partisan backlash will change the bottom line. This bill cuts taxes for middle income Missourians, allows American businesses to flourish, and paves the way for an increase of good-paying jobs," said Congresswoman Ann Wagner. "The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is pro-family tax reform that expands the Child Tax Credit, doubles the standard deduction, lowers individual rates, and preserves the adoption tax credit and retirement savings options I fought hard to keep. Most importantly—after 30 years of a ballooning tax code—this historic tax reform sets the stage for American families and our economy to prosper." 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-08T22:19:19Z

After affected property owners filed millions of dollars in claims due to widespread sewer backups, the Sewer District requested resources from FEMA to reimburse residents for the damage. The Sewer Districts first appeal was rejected, and the Senators are contacting FEMA headquarters in conjunction with the Sewer Districts second appeal. Federal support is critical to ensuring the St. Louis area is able to fully recover from previous flooding, said Blunt. I urge FEMA to fully and carefully consider the St. Louis Sewer Districts appeal. The St. Louis Sewer District has made good faith efforts to respond to FEMA and help residents whose property was damaged as a result of flooding that occurred nearly two years ago, McCaskill said. I hope FEMA gives their appeal full consideration. The Senators have repeatedly worked together to advocate for Missouri resources. Last month they wrote a letter to FEMA in support of resources for Joplin as it continues to deal with the aftermath of the deadly tornado there in 2011. This month, they also requested full consideration of resources for Carter County Missouri after damage due to flooding earlier this month. the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District received more than $5 million in claims from affected property owners and has requested FEMA assistance for emergency protective measures, the Senators wrote to FEMA Assistant Administrator Alex Amparo. We understand the Sewer District has made good faith efforts to respond to all requests from FEMA for additional information and documentation, and we ask that you give the Districts appeal full and fair consideration. Last week, House and Senate negotiators released the final tax reform package, which maintained the tax-exempt status of private activity bonds (PABs). U.S Representative Sam Graves, (MO-06), Chairman of the House Sub-Committee on Highways and Transit, authored a letter to House and Senate leadership emphasizing the importance of tax-exempt private activity bonds and requesting that they be included in the final tax reform package. Private activity bonds are important financing tools in a wide range of projects from hospitals and schools to airports and local water facilities. There are currently well over $10 billion in PABs issued for a variety of projects across the country. The demand for them is there, Graves stated in his letter. Graves said the letter stemmed both from his belief that PABs are critical to infrastructure projects as well as feedback received from across North Missouri. The tax exemption of private activity bonds is critical to making sure that the citizens of North Missouri dont see additional fee increases or tax hikes as a result of necessary upgrades to local facilities and infrastructure. We kicked the week off with a House vote on my legislation to end Operation Choke Point, held a hearing where we debated 13 pieces of legislation to reduce regulatory burdens, and passed additional legislation on the floor. This week my House colleagues passed my bill, the Financial Institution Customer Protection Act, with a vote of 395-2. Operation Choke Point is a Department of Justice and Financial Deposit Insurance Corporation-led initiative that sought to divorce legal businesses from the financial services they need to survive. The bottom line is the federal government should not be able to intimidate financial institutions into dropping entire sectors of the economy as customers, based not on risk or evidence of wrongdoing, but purely on personal and political motivations. I am pleased my colleagues, once again, recognized the importance of this legislation and I look forward to working with my Senate colleagues so we can get this legislation on the presidents desk. Additionally, the House passed the Community Institution Mortgage Relief Act with overwhelming bipartisan support. This is a common-sense piece of regulatory reform legislation that would help small financial institutions while appropriately balancing consumer protections. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureaus expansion of escrow requirements and guidance on mortgage servicing requirements has driven away community institutions. The bottom line is that we shouldnt subject these smaller institutions to the same regulatory regime as larger ones. Lastly, the House passed the Privacy No… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

It seems like the only action these time-wasters ever want to take is complete inaction. Over and over again they have shown a complete unwillingness to work with our President who was elected by the American people. Instead, they choose to hold up progress for the entire country. Unfortunately, those who seek to thwart progress are not just from one side of the aisle, both Democrats and Republicans alike those who vowed to be never Trumpers are uniting to try and prevent our President from repealing and replacing Obamacare, reducing the tax burden on American families, securing our borders and rolling back the Washington regulatory machine. Just last week, Representative Al Green from Texas actually offered a motion on the Floor of the United States House of Representatives to try and impeach President Trump. It was both astonishing and embarrassing. Whats worse, close to 60 Members of Congress voted to advance the resolution, including the 3rd highest ranking Democrat in the U.S. House what a sham. Fortunately, I was able to use my vote, your voice in Congress, to STOP this from going any further. However, the reality is this action by Representative Green is just another in the long list of obstructions from Members of Congress who refuse to support or even work with our President. Regardless if they think his policies are right for our country, these politicians fear the political ramifications of working with the President. Thats right, they are putting politics before people. During President Trumps first 11 months in office, the United States House of Representatives has passed 449 pieces of legislation. The DRCHSD program, which is a collaborative effort between the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) and the Department of Health and Human Services Health Resource Services Administration (HRSA), provides resources to help rural hospitals improve and expand health care services. Rural hospitals are a lifeline for smaller communities, offering quality, affordable care for families close to home, said Blunt. This program will help ensure hospitals in Southeast Missouri have the support they need to expand and improve services for patients. Ive been proud to back the Delta Regional Authoritys efforts, and will continue working to ensure DRA and the Department of Health and Human Services have the resources they need to continue the critical work theyre doing through the Delta Region Community Health Systems Development program. Last month the Senators requested FEMA give full consideration to Joplin’s request for an extension. The projects will repair streets, sidewalks, catch basins, curbs and gutters. An extension allows Joplin to complete the projects as part of the city’s broader disaster recovery efforts while continuing to receive reimbursements from FEMA. “The Joplin tornado had a devastating impact on much of the local infrastructure, and the federal government can help ensure the community continues to have the support it needs to rebuild,” Blunt said. “This extension will provide much-needed flexibility for recovery efforts that still need to be done. I’ll continue working with local, state, and federal officials to ensure Joplin has the support and resources it needs.”  “This extension gives Joplin more time to complete the critical infrastructure projects that’ll continue to help the city’s roads recover from the devastating tornado,” McCaskill said. “It’s good news for the city, and for taxpayers – giving Joplin the flexibility to sequence its projects in a way that’ll reduce wasteful spending.” Blunt and McCaskill have continued to support recovery efforts in the Joplin area since the 2011 tornado. Earlier this year, the Senators wrote to the Department of Homeland Security supporting the Joplin Public School System’s second appeal for funding high school repairs. I’ll continue working with my colleagues to support policies that protect consumers, ensure a free and open internet, and provide the stability the broadband marketplace needs to expand in rural areas.”  The 2015 Open Internet Order gave the FCC the ability to regulate today’s competitive broadband marketplace like a monopoly-era utility. According to the FCC, broadband investment has decreased for two years in a row, marking the first time this has occurred, outside of a recession, in the internet era. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I believe that entails ensuring that our nation's men and women in the Armed Forces are well-equipped and well-trained for the difficult task that we entrust them with. That's why I was proud to cast my vote last month in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA. To put it plainly, over the last eight years, our military resources and readiness have dwindled to a discomfortingly low level. As a result, U.S. troops are now more likely to die in “peacetime” accidents than in combat. This new plan for our military's future will invest in not only its infrastructure and equipment but also in our service members themselves. I'm happy that the House was able to include the first pay increase for our troops in nearly the past decade. After all, those who sacrifice so much for our nation should be better trained, better prepared and better compensated. As a fiscal conservative, I know that it is not enough to demand proper funding levels for our nation's military but that we must also ensure every tax dollar is spent properly and, most importantly, wisely. Within this plan, Congress was able to cut through the bureaucratic red tape, increase oversight and transparency on spending and provide much-needed changes to the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) health care system - potentially saving taxpayers billions of dollars. For too long, our veterans have encountered challenges in navigating the VA for their health care. The VA has become a maze of bureaucratic red tape and government mandated hoops for our heroes to jump through. This is unacceptable and our veterans deserve better. These men and women fought for us and now we must fight for them by keeping the promises we have made. Finally, right here at home in North Missouri, as a result of this legislation, we can expect to see the modernization of the C-130H aircraft based out of Rosecrans A… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

U.S. Representative Sam Graves (MO-6), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement after President Trump signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which included funding for C-130H modernization for the Air National Guard 139th Airlift Wing in St. Joseph, Missouri. The C-130H aircraft has been a critical component of our militarys fighting force for over 40 years, providing tactical airlift support that is second to none in the world, Rep. Graves said. Modernizing this fleet will be vital toward maintaining the effectiveness of the Air National Guard, particularly the 139th Airlift Wing in St. Joe. This funding is especially important because the 139th Airlift Wing has just been chosen by the Air National Guard as one of the bases to receive these critical modernization upgrades beginning next year. These upgrades will ensure the longevity and modernization of 20 C-130H aircrafts to operate through 2040. Blunt noted that filling judicial vacancies will help ensure Americans have access to the courts and preserve the judicial branch’s Constitutional role as a check and balance to the executive and legislative branches. Following are excerpts from Blunt’s remarks: On the Importance of Passing Tax Reform Legislation: “For work done in January, people who get that check in January, or February, whenever you get paid for your January work, there's going to be a substantial tax decrease for working families at all levels…[B]ut this is a pro-growth policy, these are two ways to increase people’s take home pay, and we’re going to pursue both of them. One is to take less out of your pay right now. … And the second way to increase people’s pay is to have better jobs to start with. Hundreds of economists that have looked at this bill say that it will make the United States of America the best place to invest your money and create jobs.” On the Need to Quickly Confirm President Trump’s Judicial Nominees: “President Trump has a unique opportunity to shape the long-term view of the judiciary. This week, we're going to confirm three circuit judges. I want to talk in just a little bit about what that means, but at the start of President Trump's term, twelve percent of all the federal judiciary seats were vacant. No president’s had that kind of opportunity since President Clinton had that opportunity now almost 25 years ago, when he started his first year, and the president will have the opportunity and is making the most of it to fill those vacancies. … “First of all, the people of the country have the right to seek justice and to believe that the rule of law will prevail… Filling these vacancies is also critical to ensure that the balance of the Constitution is in place. This bipartisan legislation would roll back excessive red tape on community banks, and strengthen consumer protections for veterans, senior citizens, and victims of fraud. “Credit unions and community banks provide critical financial services for families and small businesses across Missouri,” said Blunt. “However, since Dodd-Frank became law, small and mid-sized banks have faced a huge regulatory burden that negatively impacts their ability to provide Main Street business access to capital and credit. This bipartisan bill would strengthen consumer protections and roll-back Dodd-Frank regulations that make it harder for local businesses to grow and thrive.” “Credit unions in Missouri appreciate the support from Senator Blunt on this much-needed bill that right-sizes regulations for smaller community financial institutions,” said Brad Douglas, President and CEO, Heartland Credit Union Association. “The regulatory relief provided by the Senate Economic Growth bill is a major step forward in moving away from a system that treats credit unions the same as the biggest banks. By addressing the unintended consequences of one-size-fits-all regulations while still keeping consumer protections in place, this bill helps credit unions improve the financial well-being of the working families we serve each and every day.” “On behalf of the Missouri Bankers Association, I greatly appreciate Senator Blunt’s support for S. 2155,” said Max Cook, President and CEO, Missouri Bankers Association. “This common-sense legislation will allow banks to better serve the needs of customers and businesses in our communities.  We are confident that financial regulatory reform will unleash America’s economic potential.” The Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act would: Improve consumer access to mortgage credit; Provide regulatory relief for small financial institutions and protect c… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

The measure, which Blunt introduced in May of this year, will increase flexibility for military families by allowing them to either move early or remain at their current duty station for up to six months when a service member receives a new assignment. “Military families make countless sacrifices on behalf of our nation, and it’s our job to ensure they have the support they need to help manage the many challenges that come with military life. This bipartisan bill will give military families more flexibility to relocate at a time that allows a child to start or finish a school year in one place, or makes it easier for a spouse to pursue their own professional or educational goals.” For many military families, the cost of maintaining two residences when faced with an ill-timed move is simply unfeasible. This bill will provide much-needed flexibility for families at no cost to the Department of Defense. Blunt continued, “Our nation’s military has evolved over the past decades, and we need to make sure the policies affecting their families do as well. I’ll continue working with my colleagues to ensure we have policies in place to provide the support military families and veterans deserve.” According to a study by the Military Officers Association of America, 90 percent of military spouses who are women are either unemployed or underemployed. More than half cite concerns about their spouse’s service as a deterrent for prospective employers. For most of us, the holiday season is a time to be with our families and celebrate all of our blessings. Thats not the case for the thousands of service members who are deployed overseas and their families. For them, the holiday season is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices they make for the blessings we enjoy. This is an important time to reflect on everything theyve done, and everything they continue to do, to keep us safe. And, its an even more important time to honor that sacrifice with our actions. Today, we have the most powerful military in the world, but we all recognize that our military men and women do not serve alone. Military families provide the unwavering support our service members need to carry out their missions. There are innumerable challenges that come with military life, and its our job to ensure military families have the support they need. Thats why Im proud to announce that President Trump recently signed the Military Family Stability Act into law as part of this years defense policy bill. The Military Family Stability Act, which I introduced in May of this year, will help military families manage frequent moves that occur every two to three years. This bipartisan bill creates a buffer that allows military families to either move early or remain at their current duty station when a service member receives a new assignment. That added flexibility will allow military spouses to pursue their career or complete their education, and allow children to finish a school year in one location. Our military has evolved over the past decades, and the policies affecting their families should as well. Supporting military families also means ensuring service members have opportunities and access to good-paying jobs once their active duty service has ended. Our veterans have the skills and experience that are assets to employers in every sector of our economy. This bill passed with overwhelming bipartisan support; however, it has been ignored by every President since it was signed into law - each promising to follow through, but failing to do so. That’s 22 years of broken promises to America’s greatest ally, Israel.   President Trump made history this week when he announced the United States will formally recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the United States’ embassy into Jerusalem. He will be the only president to follow the Jerusalem Embassy Act since its passage into law‎. Israel is our friend and ally for democracy, rule of law and peace within the Middle East. Three past presidential administrations didn’t have the resolve to fully support our ally. Moving our Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem affirms the Trump Administration’s commitment to Israel and their right to exist as a sovereign state in the world.   It takes courage, resolve and the acceptance of the consequences to come to make this announcement, but as a country we are strong - and it is high time we show our allies that we stand with them and support what is their rightful claim.   Israel is one of America’s greatest allies and holds a special place for followers of Judaism and Christianity alike. I traveled to the Holy Land a few years ago. I was without words walking down the same streets I grew up reading about in the Bible, seeing the birthplace of Jesus Christ and witnessing baptisms in the Jordan River. President Trump’s decision to formally recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital demonstrates the United States’ support of Israel. Not everyone in the world may agree with this decision, but President Trump is doing the right thing and showing that America is committed to standing with our allies, and supporting their sovereignty in the world.     More than anything else, our greatest hope and prayer is for lasting p… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Blaine Luetkemeyer sent a letter with 40 colleagues to House and Senate leadership urging them to remove the first-in first-out (FIFO) provision from the final tax reform legislation that comes out of Conference. “In a bill designed to simplify the code and unburden Americans, the Senate FIFO provision eliminates options for individuals and puts the government in charge of when and what securities retirees and other investors can sell,” Luetkemeyer said. “People have the right to make their own decisions when dealing with their money and retirement plans.” As the letter states, “It has long been a feature of our tax system that taxpayers are able to control the timing of their gains and losses by choosing which lots to sell. Taxpayers who have multiple lots of the same security can specifically identify which shares they want sold when calculating capital gains taxes.” The letter goes on to state, “Taking away the choice would complicate planning, earning compensation, retirement, and giving for millions of American investors and employees and it would not result in meaningful simplification.” 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Currently, Missouri has agreements with 36 other states recognizing our concealed carry permits and by extension, the right to protect ourselves and our families. However, if you are a law-abiding citizen, you shouldn’t be fearful of breaking the law in any state for merely crossing a state line with your concealed firearm. It’s ridiculous to think that if you meet the proper requirements to conceal a firearm in the state of Missouri you could still be breaking the law by traveling to another state. The way I see it, this is an issue that can be easily resolved. If you take a concealed carry class and receive your permit, you should be allowed to carry your firearm in any state. Period. Your Constitutional rights should not stop at any state line. That’s why I ‘m proud to have cosponsored the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 which passed the House this week. This common-sense legislation will enable concealed carry permit holders to carry their firearm in any state, just like you do with your driver’s license. If you pay the fees and take the classes, carrying a concealed weapon should be your right regardless of where you are. This bill secures that right. Contrary to what liberal gun grabbers like former big-city mayor Michael Bloomberg say, this bill doesn’t make it easier to buy a gun, avoid a background check or get around current gun laws. In fact, it ensures that the laws we already have on the books are enforced. Concealed carry reciprocity ensures that our citizens are able and ready to legally defend themselves wherever, should the need ever arise. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

This year alone, 77 U.S. service members have been killed in readiness related accidents — we must invest in our forces now so that we’re equipped to effectively respond to and deter our enemies in the future.”   -30- Interested members of the media may contact Anna Swick at anna.swick@mail.house.gov 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

In 2015 alone, 116,580 Missourians were fined $50 million for failing to comply with the individual mandate. I am proud to ask Chairmen Brady and Hatch to include repeal of this onerous mandate in the final tax bill.”   The full text of the letter:   Dear Chairman Brady and Chairman Hatch:   As you begin conference proceedings related to H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, we respectfully request that the final package include a repeal of the Obamacare individual mandate.  Including language to repeal this harmful policy will return personal decisions about health care choices to patients, fulfilling a key promise we have made to the American people. Until enactment of Obamacare, the federal government had never required individuals, as a condition of lawful residence in the United States, to purchase a product from a private company.  Yet the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has estimated that the individual mandate will force approximately 13 million people, who would not voluntarily choose to purchase Obamacare-compliant plans without the threat of federal penalties, to do so.  This raises an important question: If Obamacare provides Americans with great health insurance, why would they have to be forced to purchase it?   Obamacare’s coercive individual mandate represents perhaps the worst example of the federal government violating individual freedom and liberty – which is why we have repeatedly promised to repeal it.  Repeal of the individual man… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

The letter, which was signed by 112 members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, encouraged Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn to lift newly placed restrictions on pending adoptions. “There are more than 200 cases in which American families have pending adoptions in various phases of completion,” the Senators wrote. “We believe that Ethiopia’s pursuit of new adoption legislation must not prevent children who have already been matched with adoptive families from having the opportunity to complete their adoptions according to the law under which they were initiated.” In May, Senators Blunt, Young and Klobuchar, as well as Representatives Trent Franks (Ariz.) and Brenda Lawrence (Mich.), led a letter signed by 122 members of Congress to Prime Minister Desalegn urging the nation to reconsider its decision to halt international adoptions. Their action helped unite dozens of families whose adoptions had been finalized but the children were not being allowed to leave the country. Today’s letter seeks to help the remaining children and their waiting American families that have been left in limbo. “Thanks to your government’s cooperation, many children have been united with loving adoptive families,” the letter states. “With gratitude for your previous efforts, we seek your continued assistance with the remaining cases in which American families have pending adoptions in various phases of completion. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) voted in support of H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and H.R. 4477, the Fix NICS Act in the House of Representatives. “I am proud to support our Constitution and the Second Amendment rights of 3rd District Missourians by voting for the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and the Fix NICS Act,” Luetkemeyer said. “Today’s package of bills protects our right to keep and bear arms while curbing gun violence and making our communities safer.” H.R. 38, of which Luetkemeyer is a cosponsor, ensures that law-abiding citizens’ Second Amendment right does not end when individuals cross state lines. The bill allows individuals with a state-issued concealed carry license or permit, or individuals who are citizens of states that do not require a permit to carry a concealed firearm, to carry a concealed handgun in any other state that allows concealed carry, as long as the individual follows the laws of that state. H.R. 4477 ensures federal and state authorities comply with existing law and report criminal history records to NICS. It also penalizes federal agencies that fail to report relevant criminal records to the FBI, incentivizes states to improve their reporting, and directs federal funding to make sure domestic violence records are accurately reported to the FBI. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) issued the following statement following the announcement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) regarding reinsurance: “Over the last few months we’ve seen communities along the Gulf Coast and across the country come together to support the people devastated by hurricanes and tropical storms. We continue to hold each person who has lost so much in our thoughts and prayers while we take pride in the bravery and selflessness of our first responders and folks from every corner of the U.S. including Missouri. As the victims continue rebuilding their homes we are reminded of the importance of stable and reliable flood insurance. Without it some families may never be able to return to a sense of normalcy. We cannot overlook the role reinsurance and the capital markets play in ensuring taxpayers are protected against losses from National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). For several years I’ve pressed FEMA to engage in the purchase of reinsurance or capital markets alternatives. In April, I introduced the Taxpayer Exposure Mitigation Act, legislation that would require FEMA to do so. Fortunately, earlier this year, FEMA did purchase some reinsurance to cover potential losses. That reinsurance coverage will do just what it is designed to do: transfer risk from the taxpayer to the private sector. The result is taxpayers potentially saving up to $1 billion in costs associated with Hurricane Harvey flood insurance payments.  While this is positive news and a good start, FEMA could have saved taxpayers billions of dollars more had it transferred a larger portion of its risk to the private sector, which it has the authority to do. Greater involvement from the private sector, specifically the reinsurance and capital markets, in flood ins… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Hartzler’s provision was originally introduced in May as H.R. 2513, the Police Officers Protecting Children Act. Her legislation was endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police, Laclede County Sheriff David Millsap and Pulaski County Sheriff Jimmy Bench.   Rep. Hartzler spoke in support of her provision on the House floor here. You may also click on the image below to see her speech.     “I’m pleased the House passed my provision today to protect children and empower law enforcement,” Hartzler said. “In rural areas law enforcement is stretched thin, and my bill would give school boards the choice to allow off-duty and retired police officers to carry their firearms in order to respond quickly to a school emergency or shooting. The bill puts more choice into the hands of localities instead of relying on a one-size-fits all solution handed down by the federal government.”   The language Congresswoman Hartzler authored would amend the Gun-Free School Zones Act to give local school boards more control over student protect retired police officers may carry their firearms as well, in order to policies. One path calls for finding the best option for treating an opioid use disorder.  Blunt noted unstable mood and anxiety conditions double the risk of addiction. “If you’re going to effectively address opioid addiction, we need that those suffering can access effective treatment,” said Blunt.  “That needs to include mental health services.” He also said there needs to be a concerted effort to stem the spread of addiction.  “We need to do all we can to insure that the people we work for, the people of our states and of our country understand the real and obvious risk of taking opioids and taking them in a way that can lead to addiction.” Thirdly, Blunt said there need to be pain management options that don’t lead to addiction. During the hearing, Blunt noted the death rates of all drug overdoses now rival the those of the AIDS epidemic in the 1990’s.  He also stated that opioid specific overdoses now supersede car accidents as the number one accidental cause of death in the U.S. Blunt said he and Senator Patty Murray of Washington, the ranking Democrat on the subcommittee, have actively sought to boost funding to address the opioid epidemic. “We’ve written bills that repeatedly increased the opioid funding, an increase of about $760 million, which is a 1,300 percent increase from where we were just three years ago,” said Blunt. Among those testifying at the hearing were former Democratic Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy of Rhode Island, who is now a member of the President’s Commission on Combatting Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis, and Dr. Francis S. Following Blunt’s remarks, the Senate voted to begin negotiations with the House of Representatives on a final tax cut bill. Following are excerpts from Blunt’s remarks: “Last week when the bill passed, I said it wasn't just about changing the trajectory of our economy, it's about changing the future we hand to our kids and our grandkids. I really think, Mr. President, that's what this bill will do. … “We need better jobs, we need higher wages, and we need the government to let people take home more of what they earn. This bill will allow them to do that. … “Helping families has been and continues to be at the heart of what this whole debate should be about. At one end, more take-home pay. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, as written in the House, is projected to create an additional 19,166 jobs in the Show-Me State and raise after tax income for middle class Missouri families by an average of $2,421. Just days ago, I held a couple of women-owned small business roundtables in the 3rd District. During one of the conversations, we were discussing the tax plan and one of the small business owners said if the tax cuts in this plan will help her save more money, she will be able to invest and grow her business. I have been working with County Commissioners, residents, and the US Postal Service for quite some time to get this issue resolved. This change will relieve residents of many inconveniences they faced while trying to obtain basic services such as voting and paying taxes. Graves was notified by the U.S. Postal Service in late June that, as a result of several counties switching to 911 addresses, they would be working with local 911 Coordinators to rectify the issue and provide the misaddressed residents with Missouri zip codes. In late October, USPS informed Graves that the changes to the Missouri addresses had begun and would be completed by November 25. This time, the President spoke in detail about the proposal which I had recently helped advance through the U.S. House of Representatives known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act - our plan to allow American families, small business owners and farmers to keep more of what they earn and more of what they deserve. In August, the President was in Springfield, the home of Route 66 and the birthplace of Main Street. While in Springfield, the President told me he had his pen in hand, ready to sign historic tax cuts and he was depending on Congress to deliver. But his speech wasn’t just empty rhetoric for the evening news. With the cameras turned off, the President got to work. Since that speech I have personally met with both the President and Vice President, with their respective tax teams, with First Daughter Ivanka Trump and had late night phone calls with the President and White House all in regards to providing middle income tax relief for American families. The President wants to unleash the full potential of American ingenuity and entrepreneurism, and he knows the best way to get our economy fully humming is to not only reduce burdensome regulations, but to also allow families, farmers and businesses to keep more of their hard earned money than send it to Washington – to deliver for them true tax relief.   With the full support of the White House, the U.S. House of Representatives got the job done, we delivered historic tax cuts to help families and our economy, and on Wednesday in St. Charles Missouri, the President called on the United States Senate to do the same. As President Trump said in his speech, the Senate must pass tax cuts so we can bring Main Street roaring back to life – so that we can help the 97% of businesses in Missouri which are classified as ‘small’ in size, but are the true drivers of our economy.   It’s hard to believe that we have not seen true ta… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

We will provide a much-needed tax cut for middle-class families and jumpstart a new era of growth and opportunity. Together, this will mean more money in people’s pockets today, and more jobs with higher wages in the future. And, after years of watching jobs and capital go overseas, this plan will bring investment back to our communities where it belongs. We’re not just changing the tax code, we’re changing the trajectory of our economy and the future we hand to our kids and grandkids. The Senate took an important step toward providing real tax relief for Americans today, and we must continue working to get a bill to the president’s desk this year.” 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Truman’s establishment of the Air Force. “For more than half a century, Whiteman has served an important role in defending our freedoms and supporting our nation’s heroes as they carry out their missions,” said Blunt. “We will always be grateful for the sacrifices the brave men and women stationed at Whiteman have made and continue to make on our behalf. I’ll keep working to help ensure this installation has the resources it needs to remain a pivotal component of our nation’s military for years to come.” “Whiteman’s critical role in our nation’s defense has been cemented over generations,” said McCaskill, a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the daughter of a World War II veteran. “The men and women who have and continue to serve at Whiteman represent the very best of our state—and I know I share the gratitude of all Missourians for their contributions to our national security, and to the rich history of this installation.” Whiteman is named in honor of Sedalia native Second Lieutenant George A. Whiteman, one of the first Airmen killed in World War II. The resolution highlights the contribution of the base, from training pilots in World War II to the 509th and 131st Bomb Wings as operators of the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. The 131st, a Missouri National Guard unit, is the only nuclear-capable bomb wing in the Air National Guard. Missouri has suffered tremendously due to our out-of-date tax system and this trip provided a unique opportunity for the President to see first-hand the positive effects that meaningful tax reform will have on family-owned businesses in Missouri and throughout the United States.  As the former chairman of the House Small Business Committee, I could not stress enough that our small businesses are the engines that drive our nation’s economy. Simplifying the tax code and lowering taxes across the board has always been a goal of mine to ensure that small businesses are allowed to grow, thrive and create stronger local economies. The number one concern among small business owners that I’ve spoken with in Missouri is the harm caused to them by our costly and complex tax code. The current code simply stacks the odds against them when it comes to cost, compliance, and filing. The House Republican tax bill will ease the burdens small businesses will face and ensure that they keep more of their hard-earned money to invest, grow and create jobs.  Our country is built on big dreams and unshackling our small businesses is why tax reform needs to become a reality.  Our plan brings a clear vision for tax reform and prosperity to Missouri. I look forward to joining the President in bringing much-needed relief to small business owners across the country and building for a stronger America. The legislation is endorsed by Laclede County Sheriff David Millsap and Pulaski County Sheriff Jimmy Bench.   “Law enforcement’s ability to respond to emergencies in rural areas has always been a challenge, and this vulnerability has become more evident in the wake of recent shootings across America,” said Congresswoman Hartzler. “My bill would enhance local law enforcement’s reach by giving school boards the option to allow off-duty and retired officers to carry their firearms in schools. This proposal is a commonsense measure to protect our children and help law enforcement who are already stretched too thin. I’m glad to see it included in the legislative package the Judiciary Committee passed yesterday.”   Background: Congresswoman Hartzler originally introduced her bill, H.R. 2513, the Police Officers Protecting Children Act, on May 18, 2017. The legislation would amend the Gun Free School Zones Act to remove the federal barrier to local school districts’ ability to change their policies to best protect their schoolchildren. The idea for it originated with one of her constituents, a 30-year veteran police officer. Despite decades of work protecting his community, and annual testing and requalification with a firearm, once this constituent clocked out of work he was prohibited from using his training to protect his grandchildren when he visited them at school. Off-duty police offers are also prohibited from protecting children on schoolgrounds with their service weapon once they’re off the clock.   Rep. Hartzler’s bill was included in H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which was passed out of the House Judiciary Committee yesterday. Click here for more information about Rep. Blunt emphasized that tax reform will benefit workers, and small business owners, and will allow the United States to be more competitive in the global economy.Following is a transcript of Blunt’s remarks: “I would say, that both of our small business representatives here today mentioned the complexity of the code. The money that is invested in just complying with the tax code. So simplification matters, how you keep the books matters as the tax code requires you, to be more competitive. And I’m standing here thinking about our bigger corporations, that in many cases largely become assembly plants for things that come from small business. In automobiles, in airplanes, the more we compete effectively around the world, and we have a tax structure now that significantly disadvantages us. “You know, 35 years ago, or 30 years ago, 31 years ago, in 1986, when the tax code was changed, our corporate rate was right in the middle of the countries we compete with. Now it’s at the very top of the countries we compete with. Doesn’t mean it was the wrong rate for 1986, it means it’s the wrong rate for 2017 and the next 25 or 30 years. There’s a reason this doesn’t happen very often, and one of the reasons is that people who create jobs and make investments needed a maximum capacity possible to be able to rely on the tax code that is in place and know that it will be there a while. “I think this is a tax code that the test of time is going to show exactly what needs to happen. In Missouri where I live, 97 percent of all the businesses are small businesses. The jobs created are created there. But all of that thrives, as President Kennedy said, ‘A rising tide lifts all boats.’ So th… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

WASHINGTON –Yesterday, at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, Pa., U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) participated in the ceremonial strike of the 2018 World War I Centennial Silver Dollar honoring the 100th anniversary of American participation in World War I. "Missouri is home to the National World War I Museum and Memorial, which is why I’m especially proud to see that history remembered on the World War I American Veterans Centennial Commemorative Coin,” said Blunt. The National World War I Museum in Kansas City is the only museum in the country solely dedicated to telling the story of World War I and the global events that took place between 1914 and 1918. Blunt continued, “Our nation is forever indebted to the millions of Americans who served our nation in World War I. I hope this tribute will encourage future generations to recognize their sacrifices and gain a better understanding of how the ‘war to end all wars’ has had lasting implications for the world we live in today.” The Blunt-led World War I American Veterans Centennial Commemorative Coin Act established a coin design competition held by the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and a panel of judges elected by the World War I Centennial Commission. U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver introduced the House companion measure, which was signed into law in 2014. The coin comes at no cost to taxpayers and will be available for purchase from the Mint beginning in January 2018. The Civil War, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War have all been memorialized by commemorative coins. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Landowners who participate in this program are required to manage the grass growth mid-cycle of their CRP contract and Rep. Hartzler’s bill would add grazing as an allowable management option.   “The most recent science is clear about the benefits grazing as a land-management tool,” Hartzler said. “It improves critical wildlife habitats, making them more friendly to the quail, turkey, and pheasant populations, gives cattle a nutritious grass source and improves soil health. My bill also gives CRP landowners more flexibility in managing their land, saves taxpayer dollars and ultimately benefits the environment.”   The following organizations were represented at the discussion Hartzler hosted:   Missouri Farm Bureau Missouri Department of Conservation National Wild Turkey Federation Nature Conservancy Pheasants Forever Quails Forever U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA)   Background: The Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) incentivizes landowners to manage their property in a way that reduces land erosion, enhances water quality and betters wildlife. As part of the program, landowners are required to clear their lands periodically. Currently, burning, chemical burning and discing are among the allowable methods, and they are subsidized by the federal government. Congresswoman Hartzler’s bill would add grazing to the list of options, but it would come at no cost to the government. This option would save taxpayer dollars and would also improve soil quality, wildlife habitats, and forage options for cattle.   Conservation groups like Quail Forever, the National Turkey Federation and Pheasants Forever attest that grazing is a valuable tool to manage grasslands and establish stable wildlife habitats, which is a key goal of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).  … 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

President Trump has now formally declared and labeled North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism. What does that mean? It’s simple, President Trump is holding North Korea accountable for actions that aim to terrorize and destabilize society - standing up for America and fighting for our interests across the globe.   When President Trump announced his decision to put North Korea on the state sponsor of terrorism list, my thoughts immediately went to the family of American student Otto Warmbier. Otto was on a study abroad trip with his university in 2016 when he was imprisoned and sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for allegedly stealing a propaganda poster from his hotel as a keepsake. Even though his parents pleaded, the Obama Administration insisted that it was best to do nothing and wait patiently for North Korea to comply with our appeals to send Otto home. By the time he was returned to his parents in America, the damage done was irreversible. Otto was tortured mentally and physically by the cruel and inhumane North Korean regime. He came back on his death bed, and weeks later, we watched Otto Warmbier’s parents grieve the loss of their son at the hands of North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un.   Sadly, the loss of Otto is just one of many tragic examples of an innocent person who was tortured and killed at the hands of this brutal dictatorship. In Otto’s memory, I worked with my colleagues in the House of Representatives to pass the Otto Warmbier North Korea Nuclear Sanctions Act. This bill tightens the reins on North Korea’s rogue regime and blocks their access to markets that finance weapons programs. In addition to cutting off North Korea’s access to funding, Congress is shoring up the United States’ critical missile defense system. Whatever your household calls it, praying before a meal is something I grew up doing with my family and still do today. In my family, we call it “saying the blessing.” This is a time of fellowship that provides me with reflection, restoration, and gives me hope for the future.   In a few days, folks across Missouri and America will join with their families and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving.  As I have done every year since childhood, I will spend this time with my family and loved ones. Our family Thanksgiving was first hosted by my grandmother, and then eventually, by my aunt and mother. For me, Thanksgiving has always been a day filled with eating way too much, playing board games, and simply enjoying the company of family and the sounds of laughter at old stories told throughout the night. If up for it, we may even venture out to the Walmart off Hwy 32 for a few early shopping deals.      This holiday is often seen as the precursor to Christmas, but I hope you will take the time to truly give thanks before the next holiday season takes over. As Americans, we have so much to be thankful for. Our nation is founded on freedom and is full of generosity. For every bad thing we hear or read about happening here at home and around the world, there is so much good going on around us that we often overlook. Shared Blessings Transitional Housing Shelter in Bonne Terre has recruited volunteers to cook and deliver meals from Thanksgiving Day through the weekend that follows. In Farmington, the Help the Hungry Bake Sale will bring in money to assist two food pantries to help those in need in the months to come. These are just a few of the examples of the good nature of folks happening right here. As I see all of the food drives and neighbors finding ways to help neighbors during the holiday season, I am thankful for and humbled by generosity and genuine concern Missourians have for one another.     As we join our families to give thanks for our blessings… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

This is a day that is dedicated to supporting the local businesses that create jobs and boost local economies across the country. Small Business Saturday serves as the kickoff of the holiday shopping season for small business owners throughout Missouri. When you shop local, you are supporting your neighbors and your community, and by shopping at these small businesses, you will be supporting 36 percent of retail trade employees in Missouri. In 2012, Americans spent an estimated $5.5 billion at small retailers on Small Business Saturday. By 2016, that number had grown to $15.5 billion. Clearly, participation in Small Business Saturday is having a substantial economic impact on local businesses across the country. Just a few days ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with women who own small businesses in St. Charles and Washington, Mo. It is because of those women small business owners who put in long hours and hard work each day, that our communities continue to develop and grow. These individuals rely on days like Small Business Saturday to get their neighbors into their stores and shop local. I have said time and time again that America’s small businesses are the engines of job creation, employing about half of all private sector employees. I thank all of our small business employers and employees in the 3rd District. While here in Missouri or in Washington, I will continue to protect the livelihoods of those individuals who continue to fight the odds and succeed as small business owners. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Hopefully, you have selected your bird, stocked up on sweet potatoes, and have a pumpkin pie cooling.  Thanksgiving can easily become another holiday full of to-do lists, but it’s important that we also take the time to reflect and be thankful for our blessings over the past year.  For me, it’s the birth of my first grandchild, a plentiful harvest for North Missouri, and the privilege of representing you in Congress. Giving back to our community is something that I have dedicated my life to and I ask that you join me this holiday season in doing so by showing our collective support for small businesses throughout Missouri. Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Small Business Saturday, a day to support local businesses that are at the heart of our communities. Many local businesses in North Missouri will hold sales and open houses to encourage you to spend locally. America’s small businesses are the engines of job creation and economic growth. There are more than 500,000 small businesses in Missouri- which make up more than 99 percent of all businesses in the state.  For every $100 you spend at a locally-owned small business store, an estimated $68 returns to Missouri through local taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. As the former Chairman of the House Small Business Committee, I’ve seen the impact that this day has on our small business owners across the country. Small Business Saturday is the perfect opportunity for consumers to get their holiday shopping accomplished while supporting small businesses that will help bolster the economy.  I hope you will take the time to shop local this Saturday, and I wish you and your family a safe and Happy Thanksgiving. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

My chief of staff is a woman, my legislative director is a woman, my press person is a woman. I wouldn't want to have an environment where you couldn't have the best people come. So, we've put together a working group, Senator Klobuchar, and Senator Cortez Masto, and Senator Capito and I, Senator Shelby joined us, we proposed changing our rules so there's mandatory orientation towards these things that shouldn't happen so people know what is perceived to be inappropriate and also to change the law. Going back to the 1980s where it may have seemed reasonable at the time, but in the current law if you report harassment, you're the one that has to go into 20 hours of counseling before you can decide whether you were really harassed or not, that's just totally inappropriate. … In the Congress of the United States, you want to have an environment where people are comfortable wanting to work there, saying they work there, putting on their resume in future years they worked there without feeling like there was an environment that wasn't open and appropriate in both seeking opinions and seeking the kind of advice that the country and the Congress needs.” On the Senate Tax Plan’s Immediate Benefits for Hardworking Families: “But when you look at the real tax bill, both House and Senate, I think it's designed to do two things. One is to create immediately more take-home pay for hardworking families, and the second thing at the other end of the scale, do whatever we can to be sure there are… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Thanksgiving is the time we reflect on the blessings in our lives. I remain grateful for my loving family, a country full of opportunities, the communities throughout our area who continue to put their neighbors before themselves, and the past and present members of our military who keep us safe and free. I am always humbled when hearing stories about Missourians lending a helping hand to someone less fortunate. This year is no different. Missourians have a history of generosity but especially so after Hurricanes Harvey and Maria impacted hundreds of thousands of lives earlier this year. There were countless food, clothing, and toy drives supported by the people of Missouri’s 3rd District, and members of our communities traveled to affected areas, oftentimes putting themselves in harm’s way for people they have never met. This fall people are volunteering at local shelters and donating canned goods to share with a neighbor in need. No matter how small or large an act of kindness is, they all go a long way and can have a profound impact. They are also what shapes our society and makes this the greatest country in the world. This Thanksgiving I hope you enjoy time with your loved ones, share blessings and good stories, and eat a little too much turkey. From my family to yours, have a safe and very Happy Thanksgiving! 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Following are excerpts from Blunt’s remarks: “Mr. President, it’s good for both of us, and our colleagues, to be thinking this month about Adoption Month [and] to recognize the celebration of National Adoption Day, which will occur this Saturday. I have the real privilege of serving as co-chair of Coalition on Adoption with Senator Klobuchar from Minnesota. It’s an opportunity not only for us to work together in a bipartisan way, but at an event we were at just the other day I was told that the adoption caucus, House and Senate, is the biggest caucus of either body and the biggest caucus of the congress, and of course it should be. It’s built on the idea that kids have to have the need of a family and that there are families out there that want to adopt kids, and whether that’s nationally, domestically, or internationally, we really work hard to try to make that more possible. … “More than 400,000 children now in the United States are also in the foster care system, and more than 100,000 of those 400,000 kids are ready and waiting for families that they can call their own… We can be looking carefully at the children in our system now, we both looked and others have joined us in that of looking at the foster care system, of ensuring that behavioral health screening happens within 30 days of getting into that system, because once you get into that foster care system, often it’s because of unavoidable challenges that families face and often it’s because of challenges that kids should never have to face so that early evaluation of what is going on there can really make a difference in how foster kids are dealt with in the system and how they get ready as 100,000 of them now are to leave the foster care system and be adopted. “This is a time when we ought to b… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Long. “Our tax code has become too complex and contains too many opportunities for outcomes that defy common sense. We need reform that is simple, fair and easy. Today, the House took the first step and passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which lowers tax rates, expands standard deductions and closes special-interest loopholes. Hardworking Americans deserve a break and that is what we plan on giving them: a tax cut and a pay raise. After all, people know what to do with their money better than the government does.” 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. “Today marks a truly historic day. After years of listening to the American people, the House of Representatives passed a pro-family, pro-growth tax reform bill,” Luetkemeyer said. “The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will lead to the creation of an additional 19,166 jobs in Missouri and raise after tax income for middle class Missouri families by $2,421. Additionally, the 62,280 families in the 3rd District who claim the child tax credit will see an increased credit from $1,000 to $1,600 per child. This is a major step toward giving Americans the tax system they deserve and providing our economy the boost it needs to create more jobs and increase pay for Missouri families.” As reported by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, at a national level, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will lead to the creation of an additional 975,000 jobs and generate economic growth sufficient to increase federal tax receipts by $1 trillion. In addition, 47,367 taxpayers in Missouri’s 3rd District have small business income. This legislation reduces taxes for small business owners by implementing a new, lower nine percent tax rate on the first $75,000 of net business income for active small business owners earning less than $150,000 through their businesses. In addition, the bill lowers taxes on small business investment by creating a new 25 percent small business tax rate. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
https://graves.house.gov/media-center/e-newsletters/saving-the-family-farm Saving the Family Farm 2017-11-16 2017 2017-11 Republican House MO Sam Graves G000546 graves.house.gov     legacy A famous quote says, “There’s nothing certain in life except death and taxes.” It’s ironic and infuriating then that the government taxes your death. It’s known as the “Death Tax” or the “Estate Tax” or the “Inheritance Tax” and it applies to anything you might hope to pass on such as money, equipment, or land to your loved ones. No matter what you call it, a tax that kicks in when you die is absurd. It’s not the government’s money to begin with! Farmers are hit especially hard by the death tax. After a lifetime of acquiring land and equipment to help provide food for the world, farmers are subjected to an additional tax on their estate when they die. The real effect of this double, and sometimes triple, taxation is felt by the late farmer’s family. While many folks receive an inheritance in the form of a check or stocks and bonds, the family farmer passes on his life’s work and ensures that farming continues as a way of life in North Missouri and around the country. It’s no wonder that our kids and grandkids aren’t choosing to farm when they grow up. It’s expensive enough to get a farming operation off the ground, much less keep it in the family after giving part of it to the government. I believe your death shouldn’t be a taxable event. Farmers shouldn’t work all of their life, saving and paying taxes, just to have the government show up with another bill for them and their family when they die. That’s why a crucial part of tax reform is getting rid of the death tax. We’ve been able to increase the amount exempted from the tax in the past but that’s not enough. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will provide immediate relief from the death tax by doubling the earnings exemption with a full elimination of the tax after six years. As a sixth-generation family farmer and small businessman, I know firsthand the importance of tax reform. Meaningful tax reform must benefit rural Missourians and our plan does just that. We’ve waited more than 30 years; it’s time for a tax system that benefits everyone. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Over the last few decades, our broken tax code has failed Americans. Today, with this passage, we are one step closer to delivering on our promise to bring more jobs, fairer taxes, and bigger paychecks to middle-class Americans” said Graves. “I am encouraged by this tax legislation. At its core, we are ensuring that North Missourians keep more of their hard-earned money. I look forward to bringing much-needed relief to families across the country and building a stronger America. Currently, only around 28% of people living in North Missouri choose to itemize their tax returns.  That means that around 70% take the standard deduction.  With this legislation, North Missourians would effectively double the amount of money they can write off on their taxes.  For those filing individually, the money one earns free from taxation would increase from $6,350 to $12,000 and for those filing jointly, one will see an increase from $12,700 to $24,000. Most Missouri households are expected to see an additional $2,421 in take-home pay. This tax plan simplifies the tax code, allows Missouri families to keep more of their paychecks, and enables American businesses to grow, expand, and compete again in the world. It focuses on families by enhancing the child tax credit, allowing deductions for higher education, and maintaining the adoption tax credit. There are still provisions in this bill we can work to improve, like those affecting graduate students, but it is a big step in the right direction. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to continue refining this bill to bring the American people the tax relief they deserve."   Highlights of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act: Roughly doubles the standard deduction so hard-working Americans take can take home larger paychecks (under the new plan, the first $12,000 of an individual’s income would be tax-free, the first $18,000 of a single parent’s income would be tax free, and the first $24,000 of a couple’s income would be tax-free). Increases child tax credit from $1,000 to $1,600 to help parents with the cost of raising children. Preserves the adoption tax credit. Maintains the deduction for charitable contributions. Preserves the home mortgage interest deduction for existing mortgages and newly purchased homes up to $500,000, providing tax relief to current and aspiring homeowners. Reduces corporate tax rate from 35% to 20% so businesses can grow and hire more employees. Reduces small business tax rate to the lowest it’s been since World War II.   To learn more about the GOP tax plan, please visit www.fairandsimple.gop or text TAX REFORM to 50589.   -30- 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
