Amodei | A000369 | amodei.house.gov | amodei | https://amodei.house.gov/news-releases | scraper | Washington, D.C. – Rep. Mark Amodei issued the following statement after voting in favor of the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act, a targeted health care plan designed for Americans, not insurance companies. The bill reduces health insurance premiums and expands coverage options by increasing transparency in prescription drug pricing, stabilizing the individual market, and giving employers and workers greater flexibility and choice in obtaining health insurance. While our work to rein in rising health care costs, which have been exacerbated by a deeply flawed system, is far from over, this marks a step in the right direction. This week, House Republicans advanced a long-term strategy to shift the focus of health care back to serving patients instead of insurance companies. This legislation sets a path forward to promote real affordability by lowering premium costs and expanding choices for workers, families, and small businesses: Funding Cost-Sharing Reductions (CSRs) Appropriates cost-sharing reduction payments which will lower premium costs by 11% and reduce out-of-pocket costs like deductibles and copays for low-to-moderate income people. While CSRs are designed to assist people in silver plans who fall between 100% and 250% of the Federal Poverty Level, reimbursing insurers for these reduced out-of-pocket costs will help lower premiums across the entire market. Approximately 40,000 Nevadans would qualify for cost-sharing reductions. Appropriating the CSRs is expected to lower ACA plan premiums in Nevada by $716 annually. In 2017, 196 House Democrats, many of whom remain current members, signed a letter in support of exactly what this provision accomplishes. Promotes Transparency and Reduces Hidden Drug Costs For reference, a Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) is a company that manages prescription drug benefits for health insurers and employers by setting drug coverage rules and negotiating prices with drug manufacturers and pharmacies. Amodei | A000369 | amodei.house.gov | amodei | https://amodei.house.gov/news-releases | scraper | Washington, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives passed the Mining Regulatory Clarity Act of 2025, legislation introduced by Rep. Mark Amodei (NV-02) and co-led by Rep. Steven Horsford (NV-04) to strengthen our national security and energy future by unleashing domestic mining production. This bill restores regulatory clarity and stability for mining projects by establishing a new category of mill sites to ensure that operators can use federal lands for ancillary activities. “Strengthening our domestic mineral supply chain isn’t optional, it’s demanded to ensure we don’t fall further behind China,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “Western states are sitting on a wealth of resources and a critical opportunity to break our dangerous reliance on foreign adversaries while powering our own economy. The Mining Regulatory Clarity Act restores decades of established precedent, repairs a permitting process undermined by the Rosemont decision, and gives domestic mining operations the certainty they need to compete aggressively and win. I’m glad to see the House pass this bill once again with bipartisan support, and I urge the Senate to act swiftly to get it signed into law. Additionally, I’d like to thank my colleague, Rep. Steven Horsford, for his support on this important Nevada issue.” “The Mining Regulatory Clarity Act restores regulatory certainty that was lost due to the misguided 2022 Rosemont decision,” said House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Bruce Westerman. “The bill reaffirms that mining support activities are an essential part of responsible mineral development. It encourages domestic mineral production at a moment when America’s economy and national security depend on mining more than ever. I would like to thank Representative Amodei for his leadership on this important legislation.” “The bill I passed in Congress today puts Nevada’s natural resources to work for Nevadans,” Rep. Steven Horsford said. “Streamlining the hardrock mining process will create good jobs and strengthen our energy sector. At th… | 1 | 2026-05-22T06:27:39Z | 2026-05-22T06:29:18Z |

Mark Amodei released the following statement after celebrating the annual Capitol Christmas Tree lighting. This year’s tree was selected from the Carson Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, marking the first time Nevada has been represented in this tradition. “Watching a tree, grown in the heart of Nevada’s Second Congressional District, light up the West Lawn of the Capitol stands as one of the most memorable and meaningful moments of my service in Congress,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “Nevadans know the beauty of our state, and this year, for the first time since this tradition began, that beauty was shared with the nation. “I’d like to extend a special thank you to everyone who was involved, from the selection of the tree to its careful journey to Washington, D.C. This was a proud day for Nevada, and I was honored to be part of it.” | 1 | 2026-05-21T06:28:16Z | 2026-05-21T06:29:43Z |
| https://amodei.house.gov/news-releases/amodei-statement-day-28-democrat-shutdown-and-its-avoidable-consequences | Amodei Statement on Day 28 of the Democrat Shutdown and Its Avoidable Consequences | 2025-10-28 | 2025 | 2025-10 | Republican | House | NV | Mark E. Amodei | A000369 | amodei.house.gov | amodei | https://amodei.house.gov/news-releases | scraper | Washington, D.C. – Rep. Mark Amodei released the following statement addressing Day 28 of the ongoing federal government shutdown: “There are consequences to shutting the government down," said Rep. Mark Amodei. "As of today, the federal government has been closed for 28 days, and the real pain is setting in. Nearly six weeks ago, my Republican colleagues and I in both the House and Senate voted to fully fund the programs Americans rely on and ensure every federal employee and member of the military gets paid. This shutdown was completely avoidable. Yet, instead of joining us to keep the government open, Senate Democrats have now voted 13 times to do the opposite. "There is no mystery that, despite some commendable efforts from private individuals and the administration to delay the realities of government shutdowns, everyone knows when SNAP benefits run dry and programs start shutting down. "So, when I hear people suddenly saying, after this amount of time, ‘Oh my god, the shutdown has consequences,’ I have to ask — where has the sense of urgency manifested itself to keep the government funded so far? What has the Senate, with its 60-vote requirement, managed to get 60 votes for? The answers have become clearer by the day as to what the motivations are and who has been motivated to sacrifice people's livelihoods and nutrition for their political gain. "Notions of leverage and fears about statewide elections in New York shouldn’t outweigh the basic responsibility to keep the government running and protect those who rely on it. "And before I’m asked why I’m not seriously considering the other side of the aisle’s proposal, take a good look at what the Chuck Schumer alternative plan is: produces violent deficit results, further hampers rural health care across the nation, and spends billions of dollars creating loopholes that allow people who don’t qualify to receive benefits. "I'm not happy about any of this, but I feel like the mechanic who has made sure that the car is running fine and the tank of gas is fu… | 1 | 2026-04-04T05:28:40Z | 2026-04-04T05:30:10Z |

Amodei | A000369 | amodei.house.gov | amodei | https://amodei.house.gov/news-releases | scraper | Washington, D.C.– Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5371, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026. This clean, short-term continuing resolution prevents a shutdown by extending the September 30 funding deadline to November 21, 2025, keeping funding at current Fiscal Year 2025 levels and giving the Appropriations process more time to restore regular order and preserve progress on Fiscal Year 2026 funding bills. “I’m glad to see that our conference has strayed from the idea that government shutdowns achieve anything other than proving chaos is expensive,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “On the Appropriations Committee, we’ve made real progress restoring regular order by passing all 12 funding bills out of committee, and this short-term funding extension gives us the time we need to finish the job with the Senate. As a reminder, shutdowns cost more, disrupt programs constituents rely on, stall economic growth, threaten national security, and in the end accomplish nothing at all. Under Article I, Congress has a basic duty to keep the lights on, and it’s my hope our Senate counterparts keep that in mind as they prepare to cast their votes next.” Background The House Appropriations Committee has successfully advanced all 12 appropriations bills out of committee and the House has passed three of those bills on the floor. Additionally, the House has already moved to conference with the Senate on the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and Legislative Branch Appropriations Acts, 2026. This marks the first time since Fiscal Year 2019 that regular appropriations bills are advancing to conference, demonstrating real progress in restoring regular order. | 1 | 2026-04-04T05:28:40Z | 2026-04-04T05:30:10Z |

Mark Amodei issued the following statement after voting to approve the $9 billion rescissions request sent to Congress by the Trump Administration: "The rescission package passed this morning does not take away any funding for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2025, and we will have at least three more opportunities — through the Appropriations Committee markup process, voting on the House floor, and conferencing with the Senate — to ensure that local broadcasting is still supported in FY26," said Rep. Mark Amodei. "Additionally, should Congress not pass FY26 appropriations before October 1, current FY25 levels will be maintained through a continuing resolution." "We still have a long road ahead of us before the start of the next fiscal year, and I will continue to fight for our local broadcasters in the months ahead." | 1 | 2026-04-04T05:28:40Z | 2026-04-04T05:30:10Z |

Amodei | A000369 | amodei.house.gov | amodei | https://amodei.house.gov/news-releases | scraper | Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Mark Amodei issued the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act: “The House of Representatives delivered on its promise to rein in out-of-control spending, unleash American energy dominance, drive economic growth, and secure our borders after 4 years of mismanagement under the previous administration,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “While the talking heads will try to have you believe that the One Big Beautiful Bill Act is only a handout to the wealthy, the truth is this historic piece of legislation was crafted with everyday, working-class Americans and their families at the forefront. Let me set the record straight on what is really being delivered for the American people: Without this bill, the average taxpayer would see a 22% tax hike. Instead, this bill makes the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent, which have benefited Americans over the last 8 years. Small businesses and Made-in-America investments are also supported by new incentives in domestic manufacturing and investments in research and development to shore up our nation’s supply chain needs. This bill also provides additional tax relief for seniors and delivers on President Trump’s promises of no tax on tips, overtime pay, and U.S. manufactured car loan interest. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act also strengthens the long-term viability of Medicaid for those who truly need it by rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse and requiring able-bodied adults without young dependents to meet common sense work requirements. Americans are made safer under this bill, which provides over $175 billion to secure the border, which is the largest border security investment in our nation’s history. This will allow completion of the southern border wall and hire 8,000 people to support border and customs security. Further, the bill invests nearly $150 billion to modernize our military and strengthen our national defense. This bill delivers on that mission by fully funding the Department that protects the Homeland, and refocuses where necessary, to make sure this Department is only doing the job that Congress has authorized it to do — keep the American people safe. None of this would matter without the brave men and women on the frontlines, our agents and officers, who have been unfairly demonized simply for doing the hard work of defending our homeland, but we will not turn our backs on them. When I was entrusted with chairing this subcommittee, I knew we had both an opportunity and a responsibility to make our country safer and to push back against a status quo that too often bent a knee to violence, drug trafficking, and infiltration in our communities. Thank you to Chairman Cole, members of the committee, and staff for their dedication and urgency in moving this priority down the field, and to the Trump Administration for putting the safety of American citizens first. I look forward to its arrival on the House floor.” The Fiscal Year 2026 Homeland Security Bill The Homeland Security Appropriations Bill provides a total discretionary allocation of $66.36 billion. The defense portion of the allocation is $3.29 billion, which is $41 million (1.22%) below the Fiscal Year 2025 enacted level. The non-defense portion of the allocation is $63.08 billion, which is $1.37 billion (2.05%) above the Fiscal Year 2025 enacted level. Mark Amodei. “This is forward funding. So, before we trigger major consequences for our local public broadcasting stations throughout the West and other rural areas, we need more discussion—rather than railroading folks over the East Coast’s editorials and indiscretions. “I agree we must make meaningful cuts to shrink our federal deficit; however, I would be doing a disservice to the thousands of rural constituents in my district if I did not fight to keep their access to the rest of the world and news on the air. “Having the ability to discuss real impacts, beyond just the global perspective, is a healthy and necessary step. Amodei | A000369 | amodei.house.gov | amodei | https://amodei.house.gov/news-releases | scraper | Washington, D.C. – Today, the Co-Chairs of the Public Broadcasting Caucus, Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02) and Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10), issued a joint statement urging the Trump Administration to reconsider rescissions in funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. “From coast to coast, Americans rely on public broadcasting for lifesaving emergency alerts, trusted news, and coverage on key issues that connects communities across our nation. “We see firsthand the valuable role public media plays across our districts, particularly in rural areas where, in many cases, it is the only available and reliable media service available. Of the 544 radio and television stations that receive federal funding, 245 serve rural communities and collectively support more than 5,950 local jobs. Rural broadcasters face significant challenges in raising private funds, making them particularly vulnerable if government funding is cut. “Our local stations are dedicated to serving their communities, but their ability to continue offering free, high-quality programming would be eliminated if the federal funding is rescinded. Rescinding this funding also would isolate rural communities, jeopardizing their access to vital resources they depend on. “Furthermore, public broadcasting represents less than 0.01% of the federal budget, yet its impact reaches every congressional district. Cutting this funding will not meaningfully reduce the deficit, but it will dismantle a trusted source of information for millions of Americans. “Public media has demonstrated a willingness to listen to the American public and adapt. While we reaffirm that public media must be objective and legitimate concerns about content should be addressed, funding decisions should be objective as well. “As Co-Chairs of the Public Broadcasting Caucus, we feel it is our responsibility to protect the lifeline public media plays in the day-to-day lives of our constituents. In addition, Rep. Mark Amodei’s amendment pertaining to disposal of Federal lands in Nevada was included in the package. “This week, the House Natural Resources Committee advanced our portion of the budget reconciliation bill, delivering on the Administration’s commitment to curb reckless spending, steward taxpayer dollars responsibly, and identify smart investments,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “Our contributions will generate a total of $18.5 billion in savings, well beyond our $1 billion target. “In addition to these historic savings, my Nevada-centric lands amendment was included in the package. The reality is, most of my colleagues don’t fully grasp the unique challenges Nevada faces as a state that is 80% federally owned. For years, folks from my district, and even across district lines, have voiced serious concerns about how these vast stretches of public land could threaten Nevada’s economic momentum and competitiveness if we run out of usable acreage. “With Republicans holding only a slim majority, the reconciliation process presented a rare vehicle to advance these land disposal requests and ensure the priorities of our county commissions were heard. This is only the first step in our efforts to support responsible development in our state while also delivering a meaningful return for the American taxpayer.” Background The Reconciliation Process Reconciliation is a rigorous process that allows the President’s agenda to move forward without being blocked by a Senate filibuster. In 1983, a Jeffrey Pine (Pinus jeffreyi) was planted near the Cannon House Office Building to represent Nevada. It was sponsored by then-Representative Harry Reid and has since been removed. To continue this tradition, Rep. Mark Amodei has selected a Jefferson American Elm, a tree well-suited to a wide range of growing conditions. The tree was planted near the south side of the lower West Terrace of the West Front of the United States Capitol facing the National Mall. “This project has been years in the making, and I’m grateful to see it finally come to fruition,” said Rep. Mark Amodei issued the following statement following the reintroduction of the Northern Nevada Economic Development and Conservation Act, which will allow for the conveyance and disposal of federal lands in Douglas County, Pershing County, Carson City, Elko County, the City of Fernley, the City of Sparks, and the Incline Village General Improvement District (IVIGD) for public purposes and economic development. It also designates approximately 148,000 acres of wilderness in Pershing and Douglas Counties. Additionally, Rep. Mark Amodei also introduced the Ruby Mountains Protection Act, which would remove the possibility of oil and gas leasing in over 300,000 acres of the Ruby Mountains of eastern Nevada. “The Northern Nevada Economic Development and Conservation Act showcases the continuous effort to unlocking the potential of Nevada—whether that is creating space for more homes to tackle the rising cost of living, driving economic growth, or expanding recreational areas where residents can enjoy our state’s natural beauty,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “I’m thankful to all the local stakeholders, community members, and tribal leaders, who know these lands best, for working diligently with me in this process to ensure their voices are heard in how we manage these lands. While pushing forward a comprehensive land package that balances development with conservation has been an uphill battle no doubt, I’m confident and determined that we’ll secure a win for Nevada in this Congress.” Background The previous iteration of this bill was introduced in the 117th and 118th Congresses. It received a markup in November 2024, and was favorably reported out of the House Natural Resources Committee. Mark Amodei released the following statement in response to voting in favor of the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025, a clean continuing resolution to extend government funding through September 30, 2025. “A fundamental duty of Congress is to ensure the federal government remains open and operational,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “Further, taking this step allows us to deliver on our commitment to strengthening our nation’s security and continue support for the men and women in uniform who dedicate their careers to doing so. In our current landscape, a clean, long-term continuing resolution is necessary to preserve the continuity of critical services and programs while avoiding unnecessary increases in taxpayer spending. While it’s not the ideal solution, this legislation, free of hidden agendas, allows Congress to focus on working with the President in implementing his agenda and restoring fiscal discipline to our nation. It’s time to move forward and show that the federal government can function efficiently, effectively, and in service of the public’s best interests. “Moving forward, the Appropriations Committee will continue to do our work at breakneck pace as we expect funding deliberations to begin in short order on Fiscal Year 2026, while concurrently considering Reconciliation in the next 120 days. This mechanism will allow for robust investment in our nation’s border security and defense, while extending the tax cuts for middle class America first enacted by Congress under President Trump in 2017. “As Chair of the Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee, I anticipate the nation’s fifth largest department budget to grow substantially in an effort to deliver on our mandate to combat illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Amodei | A000369 | amodei.house.gov | amodei | https://amodei.house.gov/news-releases | scraper | Washington, D.C. – Rep. Mark Amodei issued the following statement after voting in favor of H. Con. Res. 14, a budget resolution which lays the groundwork for the Budget Committee to pass one bill that delivers on the President’s full agenda. “The biggest threat standing in the way of American prosperity is ourselves. Our national debt has surpassed $36 trillion, an unsustainable path that is sabotaging the future of our nation for generations to come," said Rep. Mark Amodei. "A huge contributor to that debt was the result of the last administration’s spending spree of taxpayer dollars to implement an agenda that failed to serve the American people. "The House passed a comprehensive blueprint that prioritizes identifying areas to invest and areas to save. The blueprint outlines that we will invest in our safety and independence by prioritizing border security, national defense, and domestic energy production. It also outlines that we will identify any opportunities for savings, and the obvious first step is rooting out any abuses of taxpayer dollars in the federal government and rolling back burdensome Biden-era policies. "While some have used their time distorting the truth about this resolution, Republicans have prioritized designing the playbook to put our country back on track. "This resolution lays the groundwork for putting more money in the pockets of everyday Americans by establishing a responsible, common-sense financial plan. It is an opportunity for us to restore our dominance on the world stage, make the federal government more efficient for all Americans, and ensure the long-term stability of our democracy.” | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T23:42:11Z |

Res. 152, reaffirming the deep and steadfast United States-Canada partnership and the ties that bind the two countries in support of economic and national security: “In a world increasingly marked by global tensions and uncertainty, it is invaluable to have strong and dependable friends in every corner of the globe, especially along our border,” said Congressman Mark Amodei. “Nevada’s 2nd congressional district exports more than $1.4 billion in goods and $75 million in services to Canada annually, bolstering our supply chains and enhancing our competitive edge. We are united by our shared interests in securing our borders, delivering economic prosperity, and preserving democratic values. As the co-chair of the bipartisan American-Canadian Economy and Security Caucus (ACES), I’m proud to have reintroduced this resolution to reinforce our mutually beneficial commitment to each other's safety and success.” “The United States has no more reliable ally or steadier friend than Canada” said the Ambassador of Canada to the United States, Kirsten Hillman. “This Resolution highlights that no two nations benefit more from each other than the U.S. and Canada. With nearly $1 trillion in goods and services crossing our shared border every year, trade with Canada plays an important role in U.S. economic security and supports millions of American jobs. We are steadfast in our commitment to enhancing continental security, maintaining a secure border, supporting U.S. energy dominance, and uniting against the threat of foreign adversaries. I would like to thank ACES Co-Chairs, Representatives Mark Amodei, Lizzie Fletcher, Marc Veasey, and Buddy Carter, other co-sponsors, and all members of the ACES Caucus for their dedication to reinforcing the Canada-U.S. relationship.” “The U.S.-Canada Alliance has long been one of America's most important friendships. This legislation would ensure comprehensive medical care to veterans exposed to radiation and other toxins at the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) by establishing a presumption of exposure to radiation and toxins at NTTR between the years of 1972 and 2005. “Veterans, who made such selfless sacrifices for our nation, should not have to move mountains to prove they are suffering as a result of their service,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. "Yet, hundreds of veterans who were stationed at the NTTR during that time frame have been denied the benefits they rightfully earned because exposure to toxic chemicals is microscopic, often referred to as the invisible enemy. I will continue to amplify the indisputable access to care our veterans deserve throughout their post-service lives.” "Our men and women in uniform make countless sacrifices to keep our nation safe, so it’s our duty to ensure that we take care of them and protect them from invisible enemies like toxic radiation exposure,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “I helped pass the bipartisan PACT Act to do just that, and I’m continuing that work to get these veterans the long overdue care they deserve. This legislation will help save lives and bring justice to thousands of veterans who proudly served in Nevada.” I am very excited to see this next step in The Invisible Enemy’s fight to bring the benefits to an amazing group of veterans and DoD employees and contractors,” said Dave Crete, Chairman of The Invisible Enemy Non-profit. “We are grateful for Congressman Amodei’s willingness to be our champion in Congress to right a wrong that has been ignored far too long.” | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T23:42:11Z |

Mark Amodei. “This bill proposes a modernized approach to manufacturing our currency by allowing the Mint to modify the metal composition of coins with more affordable materials. Not only is this a long-term solution for addressing wasteful spending, but it will also save American taxpayers millions of dollars by providing a responsible path to stabilizing our currency. We introduced this bill consecutively for the past three congresses, and now, with a President committed to cost-effective solutions, we are poised to make a real impact in reducing our fiscal burden." "Keeping our currency in circulation is crucial to our economy, but right now, the United States is wasting millions to manufacture coins. I'm proud to lead the bipartisan Coin Metal Modification Authorization and Cost Savings Act to help make our nation's coin production more cost-effective, save money for our taxpayers, and prevent a national coin shortage," said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), a member of the House Financial Services Committee. “By shifting to new technologies and methods in the coin-making process, we will save millions of taxpayer dollars and ensure our families and local small businesses can thrive.” "I'm honored to serve as a co-lead of the Coin Metal Modification Authorization and Cost Savings Act of 2025 alongside my colleagues Reps. Mark Amodei. “Out West, we have an abundance of natural resources that we can responsibly utilize to reduce our reliance on adversaries and strengthen our national security. This bill reverses the damage caused by the misguided Rosemont Decision and restores clarity for critical mining projects to move forward.” “Mineral production is critical to Nevada’s economy and America’s energy and technology needs,” Rep. Horsford said. “I’m proud to partner with Senator Cortez Masto and Congressman Amodei on the Mining Regulatory Clarity Act to ensure production continues responsibly and free from bureaucratic roadblocks. This is about protecting jobs for Nevadans and creating economic prosperity for the American people while protecting our lands and resources.” “We need to streamline our federal permitting process to unleash the full potential of Nevada’s critical mineral economy,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I’m continuing my bipartisan push to pass this commonsense bill that will cut red tape, protect mining jobs in Nevada, help support clean energy projects nationwide.” “The bipartisan Mining Regulatory Clarity Act is KEY to ensuring the U.S. can use our vast domestic resources to build the essential mineral supply chains we know we must have,” said Rich Nolan, National Mining Association president and CEO. “China’s recent actions to cut off VITAL mineral supply chains underscores the need to strengthen domestic mineral supply chains for manufacturing, energy, national security and other priorities. I look forward to working alongside Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Border Czar Tom Homan, and other key local, state, and federal partners to provide the resources needed to swiftly and effectively fulfill the promises made by the incoming administration. “We remain committed to securing our borders, restoring order to our immigration system, and eliminating the violence and drug trafficking that have infiltrated and devastated our communities. This subcommittee holds significant power to improve the lives of all Americans, and we will not rest until confidence in our nation's safety and security is fully restored.” “Congressman Amodei brings over a decade’s worth of experience on the House Appropriations Committee and has consistently demonstrated strong leadership grounded in common-sense, conservative values,” said Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole. “Last year, I appointed him Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee, where he successfully passed the FY25 Homeland Security bill out of committee and on the House floor. With significant focus on the next 100 days, I am confident in his ability to deliver for the American people, who have made it clear we must act now to secure our borders and restore national security.” In addition to serving as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee, Congressman Mark Amodei will also serve as a member on the Financial … | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T23:38:47Z |

Amodei | A000369 | amodei.house.gov | amodei | https://amodei.house.gov/news-releases | scraper | Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02) joined Congresswoman Celeste Maloy (UT-02) in introducing legislation to reform the Antiquities Act of 1906. The Ending Presidential Overreach on Public Lands Act would strip presidential authority to unilaterally designate national monuments and give that authority to Congress by striking Section 2 from the Antiquities Act. "My home state of Nevada, along with other Western states, has long been burned by executive actions on public lands and monument designations that bypass input from Congress and local governments,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “I am a firm believer that the best lands policy is generated by the local communities who actually live off of these lands, not Washington bureaucrats. This legislation overturns years of a one-sided approach on major land management decisions and ensures Western communities are given a seat at the table for any future monument designations." "Congress, not the executive branch, has jurisdiction to make decisions on public land," said Rep. Maloy. "Congress trusted Presidents with a narrow authority to declare national monuments in the Antiquities Act. Unfortunately, Presidents have continued to abuse that narrow authority to designate millions of acres of land in Utah and across the West without proper Congressional oversight. My bill aims to rebalance the powers between Congress and the executive branch and restore transparency and accountability to these designations." Background: The Antiquities Act was born out of concern that America’s rapid expansion into the West would destroy historical artifacts and resources. It made sense for presidents to have a tool to quickly protect them. However, over the years, the Act's sweeping language has been weaponized to unilaterally designate vast swaths of public land as national monuments without sufficient public input or Congressional oversight. Since its enactment, the Antiquities Act has been used over a hundred times to create national monuments, locking up millio… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T17:10:36Z |

Mark Amodei. “The Subcommittee on Federal Lands offers me a powerful platform to continue to be a relentless advocate for Nevada’s lands priorities, especially in passing Nevada lands bills, which are critical to our state’s economic prosperity. At the same time, it allows me to present commonsense solutions to protect our unique landscapes and preserve our way of life. “I’m also excited to leverage my experience on the Appropriations Committee in my role on the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, where I will work to ensure the accountability and efficient operations of our federal agencies. Oversight of the federal bureaucracy and eliminating waste were a driving force behind a historic presidential turnout of 2024, and I’m honored to play a part in advancing transparency in that process.” Learn more about the Subcommittee on Federal Lands here. | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T17:10:36Z |
