Tom Reed released a letter sent toSUNYSystem Chancellor Kristina Johnsonand President ofSUNYBinghamton Harvey Stengerfollowing a visit by renowned economist Art Laffer to Binghamton University where he was shouted off the stage and escorted out of the room by security before having the opportunity to speak. This happened, according to press reports, because the protesters did not approve of the campus Young Americans Foundation and the College Republicans groups in which Laffer was addressing. The importance of the free exchange of ideas is one of the bedrocks of our democracy. So integral, the right to freedom of speech was enshrined in the first amendment of the United States Constitution. A free and democratic country depends on a well-informed, educated, and opinioned public free from concerns that their speech or beliefs will be constrained or prohibited. A country where speech, especially political in nature, is infringed cannot thrive,Tom said in the letter. Tom requested the following answers regarding SUNY free speech policies: Are there anySUNY-wide restrictions or limitations on the free-expression of political speech, including gatherings, meetings, tabling, and distribution of materials? Are these requirements enforced fairly and without regard to content or group? Are there anySUNY-wide restrictions on the formations of political clubs? Are there anySUNY-wide restrictions on clubs inviting guest speakers? What efforts are made to ensure clubs are able to function without retaliation or harm? What balance doesSUNYstrive to make when protecting the right of a club to invite and hear from a guest speaker with the right of students to protest such speaker? What disciplinary actions are enforced by the University when students take actions to stifle free speech? Tom also asked theSUNYSystem Chancellor Kristina Johnsonand President ofSUNYBinghamton Harvey Stenger to answer the following questions regarding the incident on November 14 and 1… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Zeldin Statement Following Anti-Semitic Hanukkah Attack in Monsey, New York 2019-12-29 2019 2019-12 Republican House NY Lee Zeldin Z000017 zeldin.house.gov     legacy PATCHOGUE, NY - Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) issued the following statement regarding last night's stabbing attack at a rabbi's home in Monsey, New York: Hanukkah 2019 in New York will be remembered for a sick amount of violent anti-Semitic attacks in and around New York City. From colleges to Congress to Hanukkah parties and synagogues, anti-Semitism is on the rise and on full display in many ugly forms. The violent anti-Semitic attacks in and around NYC are being caused by raw hate, feckless leadership, a culture of acceptance, education and promotion of anti-Semitism, and lowering quality of life. ALL elected and community leaders need to step up to confront and crush this threat. All those responsible must be brought to justice and none should be let out under Andrew Cuomo's new cashless bail law to continue terrorizing our communities. Rep. Zeldin also issued the following tweets here and here. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

This year's NDAA not only provides a 3.1% pay raise for our troops, the largest in a decade, but provides the critical funding they need to safely and effectively do their jobs and return home to their families. On Long Island, we are the proud home of the 106th Rescue Wing based at Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach, which is home to one of the few rescue squadrons in the country that use the HH-60G helicopter for their critical missions. However, ever-changing missions have demanded modern equipment, which is why the development, assembly and delivery of the new generation HH-60W is critical to the 106th and the airmen and women who serve there. The enactment of this legislation is a victory for Long Island and the entirety of our nation. Earlier this year, Congressman Zeldin met with the New York Army and Air National Guard to discuss how we can keep them strong and prepared as vital components of our Armed Forces. Building on that meeting, Congressman Zeldin urged for and secured the inclusion of procurement of HH-60W Combat Rescue Helicopters in this year's National Defense Authorization Act. Additionally, Fiscal Year 2020's National Defense Authorization Act: Authorizes $738 billion in defense funding; Provides a 3.1% military pay-raise; Provides the resources to continue to rebuild readiness, advance modernization of the nuclear triad, develop emerging technologies, enhance missile defense, and confront our adversaries; Provides … 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

REED ANNOUNCES MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION FUNDING RELEASE 2019-12-20 2019 2019-12 Republican House NY Tom Reed R000585 reed.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, DC Today, Rep. Tom Reed is proud to announce a Major Disaster Declaration for the State Of New York has been granted by President Donald Trump. The announcement follows a bipartisan letter Tom sent along with his colleagues to the President asking for the declaration to be made. The declaration releases Federal funds which will help communities in multiple areas recover from the severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding damage that occurred in late October and into early November. This is a big win for our district and our state. Getting this funding to the areas in need will allow repairs to be made and rebuilding to start, said Tom. We cannot undo the damage that was done during these storms, but we fought for the funding to help clean up the aftermath. We care about these areas that were impacted, and we will do all we can to help to mend what was broken. Northern Chautauqua County was heavily impacted by the storm event on Halloween, said State Senator George Borrello. Shortly after, Congressman Reed mobilized his staff and the Army Corps of Engineers. Not only did they tour the damaged areas with us, they pushed for the critically needed emergency declaration and the federal funding that comes along with it. We can now take further action to repair the damage in the communities that were hit hardest by the storm, thanks to the quick action of Congressman Tom Reed. The City of Dunkirk is very grateful for the Presidential Disaster Declaration that will send FEMA assistance to repair the Lake Boulevard railing destroyed by the extreme event on October 31, said City of Dunkirk Mayor Willie Rosas. Mayor Rosas thanks his local team who are working with our state and federal elected officials on this needed assistance. The local team is headed by Development Director Wurster, DPW Director Woodbury and Fiscal Officer Beach. The disaster declaration has been designated to help Chautauqua, Chenango, Cortland, Erie, Essex, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, O… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is an original cosponsor of the Body Armor Modernization for Females Act along with Rep. Joe Wilson (SC-02). A companion bill is being introduced in the Senate by Senators Ernst, Duckworth, McSally, and Blumenthal. Poorly fitting body armor and protective equipment is one more challenge to women serving in the Armed Forces, a rapidly growing demographic in our military. Improperly fitting body armor can cause additional discomfort and even injury. This bill would require a report to Congress on fielding the newest generation of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include a tracking system, as well as including a question on injuries incurred from ill-fitting or malfunctioning equipment in annual assessments. I am proud to be an original cosponsor to the Body Armor Modernization for Females Act and have the opportunity towork with a bipartisan team in both the House and the Senate on this important issue, said Congresswoman Stefanik. As women take on more roles within the increasingly diverse Armed Forces, it is important that we equip service members of all shapes and sizes with properly fitting protective gear. This bill aims for every soldier to be outfitted with the right equipment so she can train as she fights.' I'm proud to work with my colleagues to lean forward with the next steps of fielding the next generation of protective equipment. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

President Trump has officially declared a major disaster declaration for the state of New York, which will release federal funds to help communities in the North Country recover from the severe Halloween storm that caused massive damages from high winds and flooding. Included are the counties in NY-21 that are eligible to receive federal assistance through FEMA's Public Assistance program: Essex, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Saratoga, and Warren. Additionally, all areas of the state are eligible for assistance under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. I am grateful to President Trump for responding quickly to my push for a major disaster declaration for the North Country following the devastating Halloween storm, said Congresswoman Stefanik. I worked with state and local officials to initiate a Joint Preliminary Damage Assessment in order to access FEMA funds to rebuild our communities, and sent a letter to President Trump asking that he take our request seriously. It is an honor to have delivered this result for the North Country, and I'm looking forward to continuing my work with local officials to ensure we have everything we need to rebuild. FEMA Public Assistance Public Assistance (PA) is FEMA's largest grant program providing emergency assistance to save lives and protect property, and assists with permanently restoring community infrastructure affected by a federally declared incident. Eligible applicants include states, federally recognized tribal governments, U.S. territories, local governments, and certain private non-profit (PNP) organizations. Applicants should work with the State to apply for the assistance available and must file a Request for Public Assistance within 30 days of the date their respective area is designated by the federal declaration. Those at every level of government have zeroed in on combating this ruthless gang and ridding their escalating violence from our streets, as evidenced by today's crackdown on nearly 100 MS-13 gang members and associates in Suffolk County alone, spearheaded by county officials in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and other agencies. I look forward to continuing to work with those at every level of government to eradicate gang violence from our communities. "Specifically, I am pleased that USMCA provides key wins for our local agricultural community. With Mexico and Canada serving as some of the most significant markets in the world for U.S. soybeans, this agreement is critical to ensuring trade certainty for our region's soybean farmers. https://katko.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/statement-rep-john-katko-regarding-impeachment Statement from Rep. John Katko Regarding Impeachment 2019-12-19 2019 2019-12 Republican House NY John Katko K000386 katko.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24)today released the following statement: Today marks an extraordinarily divisive moment in our nation's history.I have always taken my commitment to bipartisanship and independence seriously. I have not been shy about breaking with the President on major policy issues. But,our founding fathers designed impeachment to be used only in extreme cases, and set a high bar to ensure this process was not abused, or used in a partisan manner. The President's behavior was wrong, but the evidence presented does not meet the high bar articulated for impeachment. I voted against the measure before the House this evening." For the past several months, impeachment has divided our nation and sidetracked this Congress from accomplishing meaningful work. With this process behind us, we must address the issues that have been neglected: growing our economy and passing a trade deal with Canada and Mexico, bolstering cybersecurity, giving attention to the opioid and mental health crises in our community, and addressing high water levels. It is far past time to get to work. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Butodds are the bill will stand little chance of passing in the Republican-controlled Senate. This is a really important bill for the people of my district, said the legislation's sponsor, Rep. Thomas Suozzi (D-Glen Cove), in an interview. In the midst of all this turmoil in Washington, the fact that I could get a bipartisan bill passed is a real sense of satisfaction. The bill was supported by Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) and a few other Republican House members. It's aimedat revising the 2017 federal law that gavetax breaks to most middle-class families nationwide, the wealthy and corporations. To pay for it, the law capped how much taxpayers could deduct on their federal income tax returns for state and local taxes often referred to as SALT. President Donald Trump proposed the 2017 legislationthat capped the deduction allowed for state income and local property taxes at $10,000. As a resultmany, Long Island residents as well as those in Westchester, Manhattan, New Jersey and several other northeastern and predominantly Democratic states, are paying more in federal income taxes. Suozzi's bill would be phased in and ease the burdenofTrump's tax measure for two years, when Democrats hope to control the White House and repeal the president'stax law. The bill would increase the allowable cap to $20,000 for couples filing jointly inthe 2019 tax year. Under the bill, full deductibility for state and local taxes on federal income tax forms would be restored in the 2020 tax year. To replace the lost revenue, Suozzi said the bill would return the top individual income tax rate to 39.6%, which was cut to 37% under Trump's tax law, givingwealthy filers a break. In some ways, you could call it the suburban relief act, said Lawrence Levy, executive dean of the National Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University. This important international trade deal would modernize the 24-year-old NAFTA and promote mutually beneficial freer markets, fairer trade, and more robust economic growth in North America. Earlier this year, the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, co-chaired by Representatives Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Tom Reed (R-NY), joined together to request a timely vote on this nonpartisan economic proposal that benefits all American workers and farmers. The group of Democrats and Republicans are pleased to see that it has in fact been voted on before the year's end. Bringing the USMCA to a vote is good for the American people, said Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair Tom Reed. Its passage through the House is a huge victory where people are put ahead of politics, and I thank my colleagues in the Problem Solvers Caucus for supporting this effort. It is time to get this to the President's desk, as it is particularly good for our American farmers and workers. Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair Josh Gottheimer said,I am pleased that the USMCA was swiftly voted on before year's end so we can look forward to the new year. I commend everyone involved in reaching this bipartisan deal and passage on USMCA, including my colleagues in Congress, the White House, the U.S. Trade Representative, labor groups, American workers, farmers, and businesses. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik released the below statement following the House passage of the USMCA trade agreement: While Democrats prioritized impeaching our President, I have been a key leading voice to pass the long-overdue USMCA for months, said Congresswoman Stefanik. As a Co-Chair of the Northern Border Caucus, delivering this significant result to North Country farmers, small businesses, manufacturers, and hardworking families has been one of my top priorities. The USMCA will expand our markets for American-made goods, bolstering our entire North Country economy. I'm grateful to have been an advocate for this bipartisan result from the very beginning, and applaud the House for getting this done before the end of the year. "This agreement brings certainty and predictability to the U.S.-Canadian economic partnership, as well as a number of enhancements in areas such as agriculture," said Garry Douglas, President of the North Country Chamber of Commerce. "And given that there is no more powerful dynamic in the North Country economy than our deep and growing connections of all kinds with our northern neighbors, this action is highly positive news for the region, both presently and for decades to come. We are setting records for employment and are drawing international attention for our success in attracting foreign direct investment. With this positive action on USMCA, we can expect further cross border investment and partnership in the years ahead. We thank the House for its approval, and thank Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and her bi-partisan colleagues in the Northern Border Caucus which she co-chairs for championing the cause. We now look forward to expected favorable action in the Senate early in the new year. Onward and upward for U.S.-Canadian economic partnership!" The rebalancing and modernization of trade between these vital trading partners will mean freer markets, fairer trade and robust US economic growth. In fact, it's estimated that the ratification of USMCA would mean 176,000 new US jobs and $68 billion in new US economic growth, better leveling the playing field; a huge win for the American worker. H.R. 5377 would change the SALT deduction temporarily until 2021, permanently raising the 37% tax rate for individuals and small businesses to 39.6%, and expands that tax bracket to include married couples filing jointly more than $498,000, instead of the current $622,050, and singles filing more than $441,475, instead of the current $518,400. This expansion of the bracket means that many currently in the 35% tax bracket would now be subject to a 39.6% tax rate as well. Over 90% of U.S. businesses are pass-through businesses and pay taxes at the individual income tax rate rather than the corporate tax rate, and 99.78% of these businesses have less than 100 employees. Any of these businesses that fall into the now broader tax bracket will be subject to the permanent tax increase. Yesterday, House Democrats rejected consideration of Congressman Zeldin's amendment with Congressman Jodey Arrington (R, TX-19) to ensure small businesses would not be subject to a tax increase under H.R. 5377, barring the amendment from even being considered on the House floor. Congressman Zeldin made the following remarks on the House floor ahead of House consideration of H.R. 5377: My colleague from Long Island Mr. Suozzi and I have engaged in many conversations about this important issue, and I'm sure that will continue after today's debate. I'd like to clear up a few things about this legislation before us today to cut through some of what's been debated. This bill permanently hikes taxes on individuals and small businesses to 39.6% for those currently in the 37% tax bracket and for many in the 35% tax bracket as well in exchange for a very temporary change of the SALT deduction only until 2021. Today's Articles of Impeachment against President Trump are an assault on our Constitution and the American people. To impeach a President for a phone call for which no crime is charged - nevermind a high crime - and for asserting his constitutional prerogatives as President is a clear abuse of power by the Congress. It sets the dangerous precedent of weaponzing Impeachment to undo the vote of the American people. This is a sad day we will long regret." 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik released the following statement on the upcoming House vote to impeach President Donald Trump: As a Member of Congress who swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, I oppose impeachment of President Trump, said Congresswoman Stefanik. House Democrats failed to uphold their Constitutional duty and instead pursued a partisan impeachment process due to their visceral disdain for President Trump and the will of the American people who elected him. In order to impeach a duly-elected President, there must be direct evidence of impeachable offenses high crimes and misdemeanors, bribery or treason. Neither the Intelligence Committee nor the Judiciary Committee found direct evidence, resulting in bipartisan opposition to impeachment. From the very beginning, this process was unprecedented, partisan, and filled with abuses of power started by Adam Schiff, continued by Jerry Nadler, and finished by Nancy Pelosi. The Democrats' case rested on the illusion of a quid pro quo: that President Trump refused to provide aid to Ukraine until the Bidens were investigated. However, this case is easily disproven by two critical facts: security assistance and defensive lethal aid was provided to Ukraine, and there was no investigation into the Bidens. It's unfortunate that House Democrats believe their disdain for President Trump is more important than respecting the will of the American people. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

However, it's clear with House Democratic leadership's flat out denial of this amendment to protect small businesses that they're not interested in fixing this legislation in good-faith, getting it through the Senate and signed into law, but that their true focus is providing themselves political cover, said Congressman Zeldin. 'I'm not focused on doing what's politically expedient, voting on another messaging bill that will never become law and which also happens to be a net tax increase. The Counterterrorism Screening and Assistance Act (H.R. 630) establishes international border security standards developed in conjunction with all relevant U.S. governmental departments and agencies in consultation with the Secretary of Defense, Attorney General, Director of National Intelligence (DNI), and Director of the FBI, to close security gaps that could allow foreign terrorist fighters to travel internationally. Under the legislation, U.S. resources would be utilized in the most efficient way possible with a special focus on high-risk and medium-risk countries to boost security, and a reporting system would also be established to monitor efforts of foreign governments to combat terrorism and foreign fighter travel and to suspend foreign assistance to countries not making significant efforts to comply. In speaking in favor of the Counterterrorism Screening and Assistance Act, Congressman Zeldin said: Since 2011, the situation in Iraq and Syria has presented significant challenges for the global community's ability to track and combat foreign terrorist actors. In Europe, roughly 5,000 EU citizens have traveled to Syria or Iraq to become foreign fighters for the Islamic State or other foreign terrorist groups. Our foreign partners have employed various measures to combat foreign fighters to include increasing surveillance and prohibiting travel that have successfully thwarted a number of plots, but we need to do more. John Katko (NY-24) today announced the introduction of bipartisan legislation to honor the life of Fayetteville World War II veteran, George H. Bacel. Rep. Katko was joined by Bacel's four children and extended family, as well as Mayor of Fayetteville Mark Olson and representatives for ClearPath for Veterans, in making the announcement this morning at the Fayetteville Town Hall. Corporal George H. Bacel served as a United States Marine during World War II, and passed away on March 3, 2010 at the age of 89. He was a husband, father, and active and valuable member of the Fayetteville and Manlius community. A graduate of Fayetteville High School, he enlisted with the Marine Corps in 1941, on the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and served in the Pacific Theatre. He bravely defended America in several battles, fighting in New Guinea, Guadalcanal, and Cape Gloucester, and was discharged with the Good Conduct Medal in 1945. Following his return to Central New York, he owned and operated Fayetteville Hairstylists for thirty years, and he started the local American Legion in Manlius. He worked for a number of years at the Fayetteville Post Office located at 599 East Genesee Street. Rep. Katko's legislation would designate that same post office as the Corporal George H. Bacel Memorial Postal Facility. George Bacel loved his family, his country, and our community. The day after the attack on our nation at Pearl Harbor, he selflessly volunteered to serve, said Rep. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has announced Seth Albertus, a senior at Northeastern Clinton Central School, as this year's winner of the Congressional App Challenge. Each year, the U.S. House of Representatives hosts district-wide Congressional App Challenges for middle school and high school students, encouraging them to learn to code and inspiring them to pursue careers in computer science. Students are challenged to create and submit their original apps for a chance to win the Congressional App Challenge (CAC). Each challenge is district-specific. The House publicly recognizes the winning teams and each winning app may be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year. The NY-21 winner, Seth Albertus, created an app called CVES BOCES. The purpose of the app is to organize websites through the CES BOCES website and put them into an easy-to-read view for students and parents. It allows users to easily go through a school's future event, news articles, or explore other features of the website in a much more convenient application form. Seth wanted an easy way for schools to make apps for themselves in a modular fashion without the expensive fee large corporations charge. Because this app was done through his internship at CVES, they are now able to locally share this app with surrounding school districts at a fraction of the original price and shift it for the needs of individual district websites, among other things. Congresswoman Stefanik called Seth Albertus to congratulate him last week. I am excited to announce Seth Albertus is the winner of our Congressional App Challenge, and I commend him for all of his hard work, creativity, and innovation, said Congresswoman Stefanik. Seth was also a member of the team that won last year's Congressional App Challenge, and it is clear he has a true passion and talent for coding and developing helpful applications. Congratulations to Seth on a job well done, and I look forward to seeing the implementation of this app in many North Country school… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

The American people demand bipartisan, commonsense action to lower the cost of prescription drugs, and I was proud to support the Lower Costs, More Cures Act that is widely bipartisan and comprehensive, full of real solutions rather than partisan politics, but apparently House Democrats didn't feel the same. Last week was another setback for everyday Americans struggling to pay for lifesaving prescription drugs. Instead of bringing up the bipartisan legislation I supported, which lowers the cost of prescription drugs by promoting more low-cost options for patients, makes insulin more affordable, and much more, House Democrats passed almost entirely down party lines another Democrat messaging bill that will never actually become law. House Democrats' legislation stifles medical innovation and development, scraps the bipartisan consensus on drugs for seniors in Medicare Part D, and mandates price setting instead of price negotiation. We've seen great success with Medicare Part D and, with some reforms, this program could provide a rough outline of a solution when it comes to negotiating drug prices. Within Medicare Part D, private non-profit and for-profit health insurance companies bid to provide prescription drug coverage for Medicare beneficiaries and separately negotiate prices with pharmaceutical companies. The incentive for Part D plan sponsors to negotiate lower prices comes from the fact that they can then reduce their premiums for Medicare beneficiaries and therefore attract more customers. Due to the fact the taxpayer subsidy depends on the bids submitted by plan sponsors, this competition benefits not only Medicare beneficiaries, but taxpayers overall. Medicare Part D should be reformed to pro… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Zeldin Statement Following Latest Washover on Dune Road Just West of Shinnecock Inlet 2019-12-16 2019 2019-12 Republican House NY Lee Zeldin Z000017 zeldin.house.gov     legacy PATCHOGUE, NY - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) provided the following statement after speaking this morning with Tom Asbery, Commander of the New York District of the Army Corps of Engineers, regarding the most recent washover on Dune Island just west of Shinnecock Inlet: Colonel Asbery's team submitted a Project Information Report to its higher headquarters and is awaiting approval for the assistance request as the next step, which could come as early as this week. This is an urgent situation along Dune Road affecting our community's small businesses and jobs. In an effort to move the project along as quickly as possible, the Army Corps has put out advanced notification for multiple bidders in preparation of accepting bids for what ultimately could be the placement of around 600,000 cubic yards of sand on the ocean side of Dune Road west of Shinnecock Inlet. This course of action would restore this area to its 2005 authorization level, which would be a better, more robust outcome than simply restoring this area to its recent 2019 pre-storm level. The Army Corps has even sped up the bid process to a 10-day procurement, which would significantly reduce the timeline for bidding, start of construction and, ultimately, getting sand on the beach. I am encouraged that the Army Corps is doing everything in its power within federal law to respond quickly and effectively to this urgent matter. In the meantime, this will continue to be a state and locally led effort until the Army Corps is legally permitted to intervene. I'm grateful to Col Asbery and his team for their continued hard work and partnership all across New York's First Congressional District. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

John Katko (NY-24) today announced that, following his advocacy, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin a feasibility study on deepening the Port of Oswego. The Port of Oswego is the only deep water port on the U.S. shores of Lake Ontario, and a critical asset for attracting new economic growth opportunities in Oswego County and across Central New York. The Port of Oswego is already a major economic driver for our local economy, and I've long advocated for expanding its depth, said Rep. John Katko. Deepening the Port will allow access for larger commercial vessels and ships carrying greater cargo volume. Expanding this waterway will undoubtedly create jobs, attract investment, and drive growth and economic development in our region for years to come. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was granted the authority and preliminary funding to study the feasibility of this project under Section 107 of the 1960 River and Harbor Act and will begin work early next year. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
https://katko.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/statement-rep-katko-articles-impeachment Statement from Rep. Katko on Articles of Impeachment 2019-12-13 2019 2019-12 Republican House NY John Katko K000386 katko.house.gov     legacy U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today released the following statement regarding next week's anticipated vote on Articles of Impeachment: Impeachment was designed by our founding fathers to be used only in the most dire of circumstances instances in which a high crime or misdemeanor has been committed and removal from office is justified. From the start, I have approached the impeachment process with an open mind and have relied heavily on my background as a prosecutor. I objectively reviewed all available evidence, reports, witness testimony and the articulated offenses. After thoroughly studying the arguments for and against impeachment, I have come to the inescapable conclusion that, while I believe some of the President's actions were wrong and inappropriate, they do not rise to the level of an impeachable offense. Never in the history of our country have we impeached a President without articulating specific crimes. I firmly believe doing so now would set a dangerous precedent. For these reasons, I will be voting no' on the Articles of Impeachment before the House next week. There's no question that this process has sharply divided our country. Now, more than ever, Congress must put down the swords and work across party lines to find common ground on the issues that matter to our nation: growing our economy, keeping our country safe, and addressing the heroin and synthetic drug epidemic, to start. This is why Central New York sent me to Congress, and where my focus remains. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik sent a letter to Governor Cuomo opposing his decision to block all federal Law Enforcement officers from accessing the New York State DMV database. This comes after Governor Cuomo's unconstitutional Green Light Law, which gives driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Federal Law Enforcement have not been notified of this decision. This irresponsible decision will: Block border patrol officers and border agents from being able to run license plates to check for active warrants. Block border patrol officers and border agents from being able to confirm if someone is an illegal immigrant with a deportation order or active warrant. Could result in citizens with an enhanced driver's license, which serves as a passport to Canada, being unable to return to the U.S. because CBPOfficers will be unable to confirm if they have a valid license. Another day, another reckless decision from Governor Cuomo's administration, said Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. Revoking federal Law Enforcement's access to State records is an unconscionable action that will have grave consequences for our immigration system and country as a whole, and will keep our border patrol from being able to effectively do their jobs. Border agents being unable to confirm someone's immigration status is a national security risk. I urge Governor Cuomo to immediately reverse this action and reinstate federal Law Enforcement's access to State records for the good of our country. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik sent a letter to House Leadership and House Appropriations Leadership with six of her colleagues expressing opposition to the Administration's proposed weakening of the MATS rule. This comes as appropriators continue to negotiate a final spending package for Fiscal Year 2020, under the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations. The MATS rule was issued by the EPA in 2011 and limits the amount of mercury and other toxic air pollutants emitted by power plants. Unfortunately, portions of the North Country, including the forested regions in the Adirondacks and Catskills, suffer from ecological damage and health problems associated with acid rain and acid deposition, said Congresswoman Stefanik. The MATS rule has been successful and effective in lowering mercury emissions and the resulting acid rain. I am opposed to the proposed weakening of the MATS rule, which would threaten environmental progress made in our region. I'm grateful to have the support of The Environmental Defense Fund, Adirondack Council, and Adirondack Mountain Club in my advocacy against this misguided proposition. The Adirondack Council commends the Representatives for continuing to press against the Administration's rollbacks of the final mercury and air toxics standards for coal-fired power plants (MATS) and the reduction in its pollution co-benefits, said William C. Janeway, Executive Director of the Adirondack Council, which has been a national leader in the fight against acid rain since 1975. The Adirondacks and northern New England's forests are already under severe stress as a result of the unfinished business of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. The further damaging effects of a MATS rollback will need to be documented and repaired as soon as possible." The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) strongly opposes efforts by the Environmental Protection Agency and some in Congress to legally weaken the enforceability of the Mercury Air Toxics Standards (MATS) rule by removing the legal c… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

The American people demand bipartisan, commonsense action to lower the cost of prescription drugs; not another Democratic messaging bill that will never actually become law. I was proud to support legislation that was widely bipartisan and comprehensive, full of real solutions rather than partisan politics, but apparently House Democrats didn't feel the same. Instead, they voted down this bipartisan bill to take up legislation that passed nearly entirely down party lines, one that would result in fewer cures and stifle medical innovation. When Long Islanders can't afford to buy insulin and other life saving medication, they definitely can't afford these partisan games in Washington. H.R. 3: Stifles medical innovation and development, creating anywhere from 15 to 100 fewer cures according to the Congressional Budget Office and Council of Economic Advisers caused by government price setting mandated under H.R. 3; Scraps the bipartisan consensus on drugs for seniors in Medicare Part D; Mandates price setting instead of price negotiation. Congressman Zeldin supports the Lower Costs, More Cures Act (H.R. 19), which: Lowers the cost of prescription drugs by promoting more low-cost options for patients and curbing the gaming of the system by drug companies, all while encouraging innovation of groundbreaking new cures; For the first time ever, places a cap on seniors' out-of-pocket drug costs and allows seniors to manage their annual out-of-pocket spending; Makes insulin more affordable; Increases transparency and removes uncertainty at the pharmacy counter; Cuts the cost of drug administration, including cancer treatment for Medicare beneficiaries by as … 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Since coming to Congress, I have maintained that costly and unnecessary government shutdowns can be prevented by taking a bipartisan approach to the budgeting process, said Rep. Katko. With only six days on the legislative calendar before government funding expires, it has become more urgent than ever for House and Senate leadership to immediately consider a long-term funding measure to fully fund the government through fiscal year 2020. To promote financial certainty and ensure national defense operations are continued, it is imperative Congress reforms its unsustainable practice of relying on short-term continuing resolutions (CRs). I remain ready and willing to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to reach a consensus on legislation to fund the government through fiscal year 2020. The full text of the letter can be found below: Dear Speaker Pelosi, Leader McCarthy, Leader McConnell, and Leader Schumer, We write to express grave concerns regarding the dwindling timeframe for the consideration of regular appropriations bills prior to the current funding deadline on December 20. With six days on the legislative calendar before funding expires, a bipartisan commitment is needed to fully fund the entire government through the end of FY 2020 and prevent yet another costly and unnecessary government shutdown. Providing adequate funding for government operations constitutes one of Congress's most fundamental responsibilities to the American people. With millions of our constituents depending on the certainty of federal funding for critical national defense operations and domestic programs, any lapse in appropriations represents an unacceptable outcome that needlessly jeopardizes their well-being. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has announced a United States Economic Development Administration (EDA) investment pf $70,000 has been awarded to the Lake Champlain-Lake George Regional Planning Board. I am excited to announce that the Lake Champlain-Lake George Regional Planning Board will be receiving this important investment to support them in their efforts said Congresswoman Stefanik. Both Lake George and Lake Champlain are important areas of recreation and tourism, driving economic activity in their respective regions. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has cosponsored the Specialty Treatment to Access and Referrals (STAR) Act. This legislation establishes a grant program to provide Community Health Centers with the resources they need to build out their telehealth capabilities. Telehealth systems allow doctors to communicate with one another to discuss referrals, and for patients to personally interface with doctors online. Telehealth systems can significantly improve access to specialist care and reduce the need for primary care physicians to conduct such work. The proposed funding includes up to $200,000 per health center and up to $5,000,000 for qualifying health networks. Community health centers are critically important to North Country residents, said Congresswoman Stefanik. This crucial funding would allow groups like Hudson Headwaters and the Adirondack Health Institute to collaborate and expand the scope and types of telehealth services that they can offer the community. This bill would enable these groups to improve the quality of primary and specialty care services offered to patients in the North Country. I am proud to cosponsor this legislation and will continue to work diligently to support our community health centers. "As a health network serving a mostly rural region of upstate New York, Hudson Headwaters faces numerous challenges in delivering high-quality health care to residents, said Tucker Slingerland, M.D., Chief Executive Officer, Hudson Headwaters Health Network. These challenges include barriers to access, like geographic isolation and a lack of providers in many small towns. Telemedicine is one way that we can provide needed primary care and specialty services, like behavioral health, to remote communities efficiently and cost-effectively. However, ever-changing missions have demanded modern equipment, which is why the development, assembly and delivery of the new generation HH-60W is critical to the 106th and the guardsmen and women who serve there. The passage of this legislation is a victory for Long Island and the entirety of our nation. Earlier this year, Congressman Zeldin met with the New York Army and Air National Guard to discuss how we can keep them strong and prepared as vital components of our Armed Forces. Building on that meeting, Congressman Zeldin urged for and secured the inclusion of the procurement of the HH-60W Combat Rescue Helicopter in this year's National Defense Authorization Act. Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Coastal and Great Lakes Community Enhancement Act, bipartisan legislation which includes two key provisions authored by U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) to address harmful algal blooms and water levels along Lake Ontario. While the House continues to be bogged down by partisan infighting, Rep. Katko has remained focused on addressing issues important to Central New York. The bipartisan provisions he authored authorize research on Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and provide grant eligibility for projects to address high water levels in communities like Lake Ontario. Despite ongoing partisanship and gridlock in Congress, I am continuing to work on the issues that matter most to Central New York, said Rep. Katko. The House passed a bipartisan and comprehensive bill which includes provisions I authored to authorize HABs research and provide grant funding to assess the impact of water level regulating on communities facing high water levels and flooding. These amendments will help ensure families in our community have access to clean drinking water, and protect shoreline communities against future costly flooding along Lake Ontario. Specifically, Rep. Katko's Amendments: Add research on Harmful Algal Blooms to the U.S. Geological Survey research authorized under Coastal and Great Lakes Community Enhancement Act. Provide grant eligibility for coastal zones projects to assess the impact of water level regulatory practices on the Great Lakes. This includes shoreline communities along Lake Ontario. Rep. Katko spoke on the floor of the House in support of these provisions. In Congress, Rep. Katko has been on the forefront of addressing both flooding and ensuring access to clean water. U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced several key wins for Central New York in the Conference Report to National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2020, which he helped negotiate. The NDAA authorizes the budget and expenditures for the U.S. Department of Defense, and, critical to Central New York, authorizes funding for Fort Drum, the 174th Attack Wing, Rome Labs, and projects manufactured by several local companies. The House-Senate Conference Committee is tasked with resolving differences between the House and Senate-passed versions of the NDAA. Rep. Katko was named a conferee as the House and Senate worked to build consensus on a bipartisan, bicameral bill. I was honored to work as a negotiator to produce a bipartisan, bicameral NDAA conference report. This measure strengthens our national security and will ensure our military is equipped to keep our country safe, said Rep. John Katko. Significantly for Central New York, this measure delivers funding for the 174th Attack Wing at Hancock Field, Fort Drum, and our local manufacturers that provide good-paying jobs in our community. I was proud to advocate on behalf of these local priorities, and to deliver for Central New York. Specifically for Central New York, Rep. Katko advocated for the following, which were included in the final NDAA conference report: Funding for 12 MQ-9 Reaper UAVs, used by the 174th Attack Wing stationed at Hancock Field Air National Guard; Full funding for a requested UAV hangar at Fort Drum, with a total allocation of $44,000,000 to Fort Drum; Funding for the F-35 jet fighter program, with radars supplied by Lockheed Martin in Central New York; The establishment of a Quantum Information Science Innovation Center, which is promising for Rome Lab, the Air Force's premier research organization for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) and Cyber technologies. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik voted today to pass the bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act, legislation that she was an original cosponsor of. The bill, led by Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-4) and Zoe Lofgren (CA-19), includes solutions to address the labor crisis facing American agriculture. It provides a pathway to legal status for undocumented farmworkers who have been working in agriculture for at least two years and plan to continue in their jobs. The Farm Workforce Modernization Act allows year-round workers, including dairy workers, to gain access to the H-2A program. Additionally, it simplifies the H-2A application process and establishes a mandatory E-Verify program to maintain employment authorization and records for the agricultural workforce. I was proud to help the House pass this bipartisan legislation to ensure our farmers have access to a stable, legal workforce, allowing them to continue to produce abundant, safe, and affordable food, said Congresswoman Stefanik. North Country farmers have been waiting for agricultural labor reform for years, and this is a major step towards a real solution to the issues facing their workforce. We are fortunate to have a wide range of agriculture operations in the North Country that create jobs and drive our economy, and this legislation will maintain their success. I applaud the House for coming together to pass this important legislation and will continue to advocate for the diverse group of farmers in the North Country. New York Farm Bureau appreciates Rep. Stefanik's leadership in cosponsoring the bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act, said David Fisher, New York Farm Bureau President and dairy farmer in Madrid, NY. Farms in her district and across the state need access to reliable labor in order to produce the food we need and to support our rural economy. We applaud House passage today of the bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act, which takes significant strides to make badly needed improvements to agriculture immigration policy … 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is an original cosponsor to H.R. 19, the Lower Costs, More Cures Act the bipartisan policy solution to Speaker Pelosi's partisan drug pricing legislation. The Lower Costs, More Cures Act is a package of over 40 provisions previously introduced to lower out-of-pocket spending, ensure new medicines and cures are not heavily taxed, strengthen transparency and accountability, and champion competition in the medical community. Each provision has bipartisan support. Speaker Pelosi's partisan legislation is a 95% tax on lifesaving cures for Americans that has no chance of passing the Senate and becoming law, said Congresswoman Stefanik. The Lower Costs, More Cures Act is a compilation of over 40 truly bipartisan provisions that could be passed by the House, Senate, and signed into law by the President swiftly. I'm proud to cosponsor this legislation to prioritize more options and lower costs on prescription drugs, promote innovative cures for patients, and reform the drug industry. This legislation would bring real results for my constituents in the North Country who are tired of their prescription drug costs skyrocketing. I urge Speaker Pelosi to reconsider and bring this legislation to the Floor, which has a chance of becoming law and making a real difference in people's lives. The Lower Costs, More Cures Act: Encourages innovation of groundbreaking new cures, promotes lower-cost options for patients, and deters drug companies from gaming the system. Prevents drug manufacturers from withholding samples of their drugs in order to delay patients' access to generic competition. Stops pay for delay agreements in which the brand-name drug manufacturer pays the generic manufacturer to keep a generic equivalent off the market. Today, the House passed the FY2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with Congresswoman Elise Stefanik's strong support. Stefanik has been selected as a Conferee each year since her first term in Congress to negotiate the legislation with the Senate. Over the last several months, she has worked to turn the NDAA into a bipartisan bill that gives our military service members the support and resources they need. As the number one advocate for Fort Drum, I successfully delivered important results for our district in the NDAA, said Congresswoman Stefanik. Through hard work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, we successfully turned this critical piece of legislation into a bipartisan bill that will maintain and strengthen our military readiness, with many crucial wins for Fort Drum. Our men and women in uniform deserve the maximum amount of resources we can give them to protect our nation and our freedom. Zeldin Supports Legislation to Lower Drug Prices 2019-12-11 2019 2019-12 Republican House NY Lee Zeldin Z000017 zeldin.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) issued the following statement after cosponsoring the Lower Costs, More Cures Act (H.R. 19): The rising cost of prescription drugs has dealt a crushing blow to the wallets of everyday Americans and put a great strain on the government supported programs some of our country's most vulnerable populations - our seniors, children, disabled and impoverished communities - rely on. The American people demand bipartisan, commonsense action to lower the cost of prescription drugs, and I'm proud to support this legislation that would deliver for them and their families. The legislation packaged in the Lower Costs, More Cures Act is comprehensive and widely bipartisan, full of real solutions rather than partisan politics. I urge House Democratic leadership to bring this legislation, which would undoubtedly pass with wide bipartisan support, to a vote immediately. The Lower Costs, More Cures Act: Lowers the cost of prescription drugs by promoting more low-cost options for patients and curbing the gaming of the system by drug companies, all while encouraging innovation of groundbreaking new cures; For the first time ever, places a cap on seniors' out-of-pocket drug costs and allows seniors to manage their annual out-of-pocket spending; Makes insulin more affordable; Increases transparency and removes uncertainty at the pharmacy counter; Cuts the cost of drug administration, including cancer treatment for Medicare beneficiaries by as much as half; Stops subsidizing other developing countries' health care through stronger trade agreements with real enforcement mechanisms. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik offered an amendment along with Congressman John Katko (NY-24), Congressman Anthony Brindisi (NY-22), and Congressman Joe Morelle (NY-25) to the Coastal and Great Lakes Communities Enhancement Act. Their amendment adds harmful algal bloom development research to the list of topics the U.S. Geological Survey can include in the research they are directed to conduct under the Great Lakes Fishery Research title of the Coastal and Great Lakes Communities Enhancement Act. This amendment was adopted unanimously into the legislation, which just passed on the House Floor with bipartisan support. Harmful Algal Blooms have been reported across my district including in Franklin, Washington, and Saratoga Counties, said Congresswoman Stefanik. Offering this amendment to support research into why these blooms are developing and how to eradicate them is critical to preserving the North Country's diverse ecosystems. Tackling any issues that arise that threaten our region is one of my top priorities in Congress I have a clear record of working to conserve and protect our environment. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik released the below statement following the announcement of a deal on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA): After months and months of tireless work, I am proud to support the negotiated USMCA, said Congresswoman Stefanik. This trade agreement is a win for North Country farmers and workers, the North Country economy, and America as a whole. Many hardworking families in my district have been negatively impacted by ineffective trade deals that have outsourced much-needed jobs. As Co-Chair of the bipartisan Northern Border Caucus, I have been a leader in passing this long-overdue update which will benefit our workforce and economy for many years to come, and will expand markets for North American-made goods. Today is a great day for the North Country, and I am looking forward to a swift, bipartisan vote in the House to make this agreement official. "No dynamic is more important to the North Country economy than our growing and multi-faceted economic partnership with Canada," said Garry Douglas, President of the North Country Chamber of Commerce. "There are certainly positive advances in the new agreement for dairy farmers and other sectors and these are important, but the most important thing at this point is the achievement of predictability and settled terms for the years ahead. Most of our large and growing manufacturing community depends on efficient cross border supply chains with Canada and with Mexico as well. Final agreement, hopefully followed now by swift Congressional approval, will directly support North Country jobs and encourage continued Canadian and international investment in our region. Onward and upward!" ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Zeldin Welcomes Long-Overdue Bipartisan Deal on USMCA 2019-12-10 2019 2019-12 Republican House NY Lee Zeldin Z000017 zeldin.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) issued the following statement on Speaker Nancy Pelosi's announcement on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA): In 2018 alone, the State of New York exported $20.3 billion to Canada and Mexico, including top exports such as metal products, machinery, computer and electronic products, and more. The rebalancing and modernization of trade between these vital trading partners will mean freer markets, fairer trade and robust economic growth in New York and across the country. In fact, it's estimated that the ratification of USMCA would mean 176,000 new US jobs and $68 billion in new US economic growth, better leveling the playing field and delivering a huge win for the American worker. Congressman Zeldin also posted the following tweet here: Huge win for President Trump getting USMCA over the finish line, but most importantly, it's a huge win for the American worker with all of the new US jobs that will be created, the US GDP that will increase, and the new US investment that will be coming in. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is an original cosponsor of the Responsible and Efficient Agriculture Destination Act. Agricultural haulers of livestock and commodities are currently forced to stop mid-route ad leave animals or products on trailers for 10 consecutive hours, in order to comply with hours of service (HOS) requirements. This legislation provides haulers a grace period of 150 air-miles within their destination, so they can slowly and carefully travel their routes. It also increases the hours of service and allows year-round use of the exemptions for agriculture. Our agricultural haulers do an important job in transporting animals and goods throughout our communities, said Congresswoman Stefanik. Stopping drivers, often while they are only a short distance from their destination, means putting animals and perishable commodities at risk. I am proud to sign onto this bill to fix this problem and provide much needed relief for our agricultural haulers and farmers. Milk is a highly perishable commodity that can now travel a longer journey from farm to plant as the dairy sector has evolved, said Jim Mulhern, President and CEO, National Milk Producers Federation. Therefore, it is critical to maintain a flexible regulatory climate for milk hauling. We thank Rep. Elise Stefanik for supporting this bipartisan bill to increase the hours of service exemption for agriculture this measure will provide welcome relief to dairy producers across the country. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik sent a bipartisan letter expressing support for the U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement this year to Speaker Pelosi. The USMCA is a signed, but not ratified, free trade agreement and is a result of the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The letter highlights the fact that the impeachment inquiry has delayed consideration of USMCA. The letter also highlights that nearly every agriculture group in America has called on Congress to pass USMCA, which would significantly improve trade relations with our two largest trading partners that together purchase about one-third of all U.S. agricultural exports. It is essential that Speaker Pelosi stops delaying and immediately considers USMCA on the House floor said Congresswoman Stefanik. North Country farmers are being held hostage and denied access to significant new markets for U.S. dairy, chicken, eggs, and turkey, among other products. The USMCA will greatly benefit farmers and ranchers struggling under the weight of a recession. The farmers in my district play an integral role in our North Country economy, and they deserve access to these markets, especially given their proximity to the Canadian border. I will continue to work on their behalf and urge Speaker Pelosi to pass the USMCA. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

With Americans receiving tens of billions of robocalls a year, it's no surprise that many Long Islanders have chosen to ignore many incoming callers, causing them to miss important phone calls about their health, their children and more. Consumers should be able to block unwanted and illegal calls and answer their cell phones without fear of being targeted for a scam. This bipartisan and comprehensive legislation continues to build on our efforts to end this continuous onslaught of robocalls. The TRACED Act: Requires carriers to offer call-authentication technology to everyone at no additional charge; Requires Opt-in or opt-out robocall blocking be offered at no additional charge to consumers; Gives the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) the ability to step up enforcement actions against unlawful robocalls with a longer statute of limitations and increased fines in certain cases; Pushes the Department of Justice to bring more criminal prosecutions against criminal robocallers; Requires the FCC to work to stop one-ring scams; Helps the FCC and responsible carriers traceback and cutoff suspect phone companies that are responsible for sending vast numbers of unlawful robocalls; and Protects patients, doctors and hospitals from unlawful robocalls. An estimated 54 billion illegal robocalls have already been placed nationwide this year alone, including over 330 million in the State of New York in November, according to the YouMail Robocall Index. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has cosponsored the Biomass Thermal Utilization Act to provide tax credits for biomass heating appliances. This legislation adds high efficiency biomass thermal technologies to the list of renewable energy technologies that benefit from investment tax credits under section 25D and Section 48 of the tax code. The BTU Act only qualifies the most efficient and advanced technologies for the credit. Earlier this year, Congresswoman Stefanik introduced the Renewable Electricity Tax Credit Equalization Act, bipartisan legislation to extend tax credits for investments in qualified renewable energy production, including closed-loop biomass, open-loop biomass, geothermal, municipal solid waste, qualified hydropower, and marine and hydrokinetic. I have a clear record of promoting renewable energy technology by incentivizing its usage by providing companies with tax credits, said Congresswoman Stefanik. This legislation further extends the list of technologies that qualify for these tax credits, which will result in net reduction of greenhouse gas and sulfur emissions which can contribute to acid rain. The North Country faces a variety of environmental issues, including acid rain, and I'm proud to cosponsor this effort to preserve our district's beauty. A thermal biomass system is a stove, furnace or boiler that runs on biomass fuels such as wood pellets and chips, solid wood or agricultural residues. The system produces thermal energy for heating residential, commercial and industrial buildings, as well as process heat for industrial applications. The Adirondack Park Local Government Review Board, New York Biomass Energy Alliance, North Country Resource Conservation and Development Council, Northeast Biomass Thermal Working Group, Northern Forest Center, Alliance for Green Heat, American Boiler Manufacturers Association, and American Forest Foundation are all supportive of this legislation. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

In the last two years, Israel has been hit by over 2,600 rockets and mortars. In the past year alone, 1,500 of those rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel. Filing this resolution squarely into the category of worst timing possible, H.Res.326 came to the floor just one week after Israel was bombarded with over 450 rockets, but in all of the pages of this resolution, guess where it mentions Palestinian terrorism? Nowhere. This resolution fails to not only recognize these latest attacks, but all of the persistent assaults on innocent Israelis by Palestinian terrorists. Guess what else this resolution fails to mention? It's silent on fundamental facts that shape the way Israel has dealt with a constant threat on its border. For example, during the March of Return, every single week, protestors gather along the border of Israel in Gaza to throw Molotov cocktails and burning tires at IDF soldiers. Just this week, Hamas passed out leaflets calling on the public to join these protests in response to Israel defending itself against the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. You won't find this in this resolution or that Hamas uses innocent women and children as human shields, denies humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, incites violence, launches rockets into Israel killing innocent civilians, has declared jihad an obligation, and that list goes on. Maybe worst of all, this resolution completely fails to mention that Israel has made repeated attempts to offer peace proposals to the Palestinian Authority. The Head Start program provides crucial services to children and their families in our North Country communities, in order to give them the tools they need to be successful in the classroom and at home. I will continue to advocate for programs like Head Start that have real, positive impacts on families in our rural communities. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik voted this week in favor of H.R. 2534 the Insider Trading Prohibition Act, to prohibit certain securities trading by those who are in possession of material, non-public information. The bill also makes it unlawful for a person who wrongfully obtains such information to communicate that tip to another person when that additional person is likely to trade using that information. This legislation ends decades of ambiguity for a crime that has never been clearly defined by law. I proudly helped the House pass this important, bipartisan legislation to make it fully illegal for individuals to trade on material, non-public information said Congresswoman Stefanik. Insider trading is a crime and should be identified as such, as it is unfair to the American public and harmful to our markets. I will continue to support bipartisan legislation like this that addresses criminal offenses and keeps integrity in our markets. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and Congressman Colin Allred (D-TX), along with U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) introduced legislation with resources to pay for leave and cover the cost of day care, baby supplies and other expenses associated with a new child. The Advancing Support for Working Families Act would allow families the option to advance up to $5,000of theirrecently-doubledchild tax credit in the first year of a child's life or the first year a family adopts a child. Families can also choose to advance their child credit without having to miss workor sacrifice a state or employer's family/medical leave policy to pay for other expenses. Most other paid leave proposals require parents to take off work to receive benefits, this bill allows teleworkers the option to access child care benefits and to continue working fromhomewhile they take care of their new child.Additionally, the bill does not raise taxes or take away from Social Security. Low income earners who do not qualify for the full refundable portion of the child tax credit can elect to receive a benefit adjusted to 100 percent wage replacement over 12 weeks of work. The bill is the only bipartisan, bicameral legislation to support working families during their child's first year. It is the product ofmore than a year of workto craft a bill that could pass with bipartisan support. The joy of starting a family should not be dampened by the fear of being unable to make ends meet if a parent takes time off work, said Congresswoman Stefanik. This bipartisan effort to support hardworking families in the first year after birth or adoption will prove critical to ensuring families can thrive without the burden of potential bankruptcy or debt. Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik helped the House pass the Pallone-Thune TRACED Act, legislation that will impose stronger penalties on scam robocalls. The North Country has experienced an uptick in these scam calls, which specifically target our seniors. It is estimated that nearly 50% of calls received by Americans this year were robocalls, said Congresswoman Stefanik. These scam calls specifically target and prey on our North Country seniors. Not only are the manipulative calls irritating, they can also be costly. I was proud to help the House pass this bipartisan legislation to impose penalties for those who violate the law and implement better technology to prevent scam robocalls. This bill implements a forfeiture penalty for violations of the prohibition of illegitimate robocalls and requires providers to develop call authentication technologies. Additionally, it requires the Department of Justice and the FCC to assemble an interagency working group to study and report to Congress on the enforcement of the prohibition of certain robocalls. Earlier this year, Congresswoman Stefanik also helped the House pass the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has sent a bipartisan letter to President Trump supporting Governor Cuomo's request for a major disaster declaration for parts of Upstate New York after the devastating Halloween storm, which affected Essex, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Saratoga, and Warren Counties. This comes after Congresswoman Stefanik worked with state and local officials to push for a joint Preliminary Damage Assessment from FEMA to assess the damage caused and funding needed to rebuild. The destruction caused by the Halloween storm to communities in my district was devastating, and even caused the tragic death of Father John Connery of Glenville, said Congresswoman Stefanik. I am strongly supportive of Governor Cuomo's request to the President for a major disaster declaration. Following my push for a joint Preliminary Damage Assessment, it has been determined that our region needs federal support due to the magnitude of the damage caused by the storms. I will continue working to deliver this critical result for our community, and I'm grateful to the state and local officials who worked alongside me to ensure our region will receive the necessary funding in order to rebuild. Elise Stefanik responded quickly to assist local communities after the Halloween 2019 storms that ravaged Upstate, said Jack Wilson, Chairman of the Fulton County Board of Supervisors. Several areas of Fulton County were hit hard and those municipalities are making necessary repairs and restorations. Elise is working with the Governor to ensure that federal aid is approved and we appreciate their efforts. We are grateful to Congresswoman Elise Stefanik for her work to obtain federal funding for Saratoga County and other affected areas of Upstate New York following the devastating storms on Halloween, said Kevin Tollisen, Chair of the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors. Zeldins Bipartisan Legislation 2019-12-04 2019 2019-12 Republican House NY Lee Zeldin Z000017 zeldin.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON - This week, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai called on Congress to repeal the mandate to auction the T-Band spectrum and allow public safety officials to continue saving lives using T-Band communications. Currently, the FCC is required to reallocate and auction the T-Band spectrum by 2021 due to a provision of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012, which mandates the sale of the T-Band spectrum and would endanger public safety communications in major metropolitan areas across the United States, including New York City and Long Island. The T-Band is a portion of spectrum used in 11 heavily populated metropolitan areas, including New York, covering over 90 million Americans, to support critical public safety communications (i.e. police, fire and other first responder's radios) and provide regional interoperability among first responders. Public safety agencies have spent numerous years and hundreds of millions of dollars of federal, state and local funds to plan and build out these T-Band networks. The result is battle-tested public safety networks that provide resilient coverage, reliability and regional interoperability. This spectrum is essential to public safety and for many public safety entities there is nowhere else to move, which is why Reps. Zeldin, Engel, and King introduced the Don't Break Up the T-Band Act to preserve the T-Band spectrum before it is reallocated for good. FCC Chairman Pai said, In 2012, Congress passed legislation requiring the FCC to reallocate and auction T-Band spectrum used for decades by public safety licensees and fund the relocation of those licensees elsewhere. The agency has extensively analyzed the T-Band and concluded that moving forward is not viablerelocation costs for public safety licensees would likely far exceed any potential auction revenue, making it impossible to fund the relocation and comply with the mandate. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, along with several other members of the New York State Congressional Delegation, sent a bipartisan letter to Governor Cuomo expressing concern over the recently passed criminal justice reform bill in New York State. The bill, to be implemented in January, would require local district attorneys to turnover witness names, statements, and contact information to the defense within 15 days of first appearance. New bail reforms also raised concerns, as they would allow almost all defendants to go free while awaiting trial. The letter written to Governor Cuomo states that as a result of the law, local district attorneys will have to increase their operating budgets by 30 to 40 percent, due to burdensome standards. I am very concerned about the implications that this new criminal justice reform will have on our North Country Communities, said Congresswoman Stefanik. After hearing from multiple district attorneys from across the state and many local elected officials, I urge Governor Cuomo to put forward reforms to be considered immediately in this upcoming legislative session. It is imperative that we work to find comprehensive solutions to criminal justice reform that keep our communities safe and keep the burden off local taxpayers. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Before serving in Congress, Congressman Carney served in the Suffolk County Legislature and United States Army. Congressman Zeldin introduced legislation to honor the life and legacy of former Congressman Carney by renaming in his honor the Smithtown Post Office. Following House and Senate passage, this legislation was signed into law this past August to make this dedication possible. Congressman Carney was an incredible man who fought tirelessly for his constituents every day. Even before his life in politics, his commitment to serving his country and community never wavered, Congressman Zeldin said. Congressman Carney will be remembered for his strength, integrity, and commitment to his district and nation, and there is no place he loved more than Long Island. Now, every time someone enters the Congressman Bill Carney Post Office, his legacy will be remembered forever. Bill was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. For our community, for New York's First Congressional District, for our nation and for the ideals in which he believed, he was a fighter until the very end, said the Carney family. Bill loved the First Congressional District and it was his highest honor serving its people. Smithtown was our family's home for decades, and it is particularly meaningful that this Post Office continues to serve the people about whom he cared so deeply. Thank you to Congressman Zeldin for helping preserve his memory in a place that was always very special to him. Since coming to Congress, I've worked with Commander of the New York District of the Army Corps of Engineers Colonel Thomas Asbery and his incredible team to secure desperately needed victories for our Congressional District, whether it's moving the Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) plan closer to implementation or securing emergency east end projects. Last year, a series of unprecedented storms pummeled area waterways and significantly worsened navigation conditions, leaving Moriches Inlet effectively impassable. I went out to the inlet to see these dangerous conditions firsthand, and was joined by fishermen, business owners and other stakeholders in calling for an emergency dredge. Working with the Army Corps of Engineers and others at every level of government, I secured the approval and $12 million in federal funding needed to undertake this emergency dredge. Equally as important, the dredged sand was placed at Smith Point County Park where it was used to widen the beach, strengthen the dunes and defend the beach against future storms. These unprecedented winter storms left so many waterways in dangerous navigational conditions, including Wickham Creek on the North Fork. However, dredging of Wickham Creek is prohibited between January 1st and September 31st, but with the summer approaching, the condition of Wickham Creek was a safety hazard to recreational and commercial boaters alike. I secured an extension of the dredging period to restore safe navigational conditions for local residents right in time for summer. Already this year, multiple storms have caused severe damage to the dunes along the ocean side all along our shores and, most significantly, led to severe flooding and a near breach of the barrier island just west of Shinnecock Inlet where many small businesses… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

This project provides for a protective beach berm and dune, providing protection for Westhampton Beach west of Groin 15 and affected mainland communities of Moriches Bay. On September 30, 2019, the renourishment contract for the project was awarded to Weeks Marine at a cost of $22.3 million, which is 65% federally funded and 35% state funded, and work relocating an estimated 1.2 million cubic yards of sand, began on November 25, 2019. With our Congressional District nearly completely surrounded by water, our area's infrastructure includes our maritime infrastructure, and ensuring its integrity is vital to protecting our communities, said Congressman Zeldin. This latest beach renourishment in Westhampton Beach is great news for those along the barrier island and the communities that line Moriches Bay, providing a protective berm and dune. Zeldin Surveys Dune Road Following Severe Flooding 2019-11-26 2019 2019-11 Republican House NY Lee Zeldin Z000017 zeldin.house.gov     legacy HAMPTONS BAYS, NY - On Tuesday, November 26, 2019, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) and Chief Engineer of the Suffolk County Department of Public Works William Hillman carried out a site visit of Dune Road following multiple recent storms that caused severe damage to the dunes along the ocean side and led to severe flooding and a near breach of the barrier island just west of Shinnecock Inlet where many small businesses and jobs are located, including the second largest commercial dock in New York State. Local and state officials are now seeking federal assistance with the ongoing dredging. During the site visit, federal and county officials discussed available options regarding appropriate operation authority, funding and the availability of dredges and equipment. Congressman Zeldin and his office have been in frequent contact with the Army Corps regarding the county's reimbursement request for prior and ongoing work on Dune Road and has also been in touch with Weeks Marine, which has two dredges currently at Fire Island Pines, regarding the possibility of moving at least one of its vessels east to assist with this emergency project. Last year, the Army Corps, operating under an emergency declaration and utilizing $12 million in federal funding, under took an emergency dredge of Moriches Inlet following a series of unprecedented nor'easters which caused severe shoaling and left the inlet unnavigable. The sand dredged from the inlet was placed at Smith Point County Park to strengthen the dunes and prevent erosion. On the heels of the completion of the dredge of Moriches Inlet, the Army Corps completed a 3-mile dredge of the Long Island Intracoastal Waterway, placing additional sand at Smith Point County Park as well as Webby Beach and Great Gun Beach. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

https://stefanik.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/stefanik-legislation-signed-law-president-trump Stefanik Legislation Signed Into Law By President Trump 2019-11-25 2019 2019-11 Republican House NY Elise Stefanik S001196 stefanik.house.gov     legacy Washington, D.C. Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik's legislation, the Women's Suffrage Centennial Commemorative Coin Act, was signed into law by President Trump. This bill was introduced along with Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence (D-MI-14) in May of this year, and passed by the House of Representatives last month. The companion bill in the Senate, led by Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), was passed by the Senate shortly after. This legislation authorizes the Department of Treasury to mint 400,000 $1 silver coins in 2020 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage and ensures that the suffragists who dedicated their lives to fighting for women's fundamental right to vote are celebrated throughout the United States. I am honored that President Trump signed the Women's Suffrage Centennial Commemorative Coin Act into law this afternoon, said Congresswoman Stefanik. One of the most vocal advocates for women's suffrage, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, was born and raised in Johnstown, New York, and I am looking forward to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment in my district next year. The majority of voters in our country are women, and it is my hope that this legislation will encourage women across the country to continue to be active participants in civic life. I'm grateful to my colleagues and the President for supporting this bipartisan legislation.
