http://latta.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=402257 SIGNED INTO LAW: Lattas Bipartisan Bill to Combat Robocalls 2019-12-31 2019 2019-12 Republican House OH Robert Latta L000566 latta.house.gov legacy Americans will have the security of knowing their incoming calls are legitimate because yesterday, the President signed into law a bipartisan bill, the TRACED Act, to combat the illegal robocalls that are hounding Americans across the country. The TRACED Act is a collaborative legislative package authored by members of the Senate and the House, including Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5), Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR), Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone (D-NJ), and Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Mike Doyle (D-PA). Our phones that connect us to the world should be used for good, not for manipulative and illegal spam calls that have tricked countless people out of time and money. The TRACED Act takes significant steps to protect consumers from scams and fraud. This is a shining example of when Members of Congress are committed to working together in order to solve real problems facing our country, progress can be made that will better the lives of Americans in every state, said Congressman Latta. Robocalls are continuing to harass Americans in Ohio and beyond, and last year alone, there were almost 48 billion robocalls made to people across the country, compared to just over 30 billion robocalls made the year before in 2017. In 2016, 22 million Americans, including senior citizens who are some of our nation's most vulnerable residents, lost $9.6 billion in robocall scams. With the TRACED Act signed into law, phone companies will be required to verify and authenticate incoming calls so consumers can identify which calls are legitimate. According to the FCC, they receive over 200,000 complaints a year from residents receiving predatory robocalls.Congressman Latta worked with Energy and Commerce Members and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman, Ajit Pai, to focus on possible solutions in order to best combat these unwanted scam calls.Congressman Latta introduced the STOP Robocalls Act and shortly thereafter, theFCC voted to allow phone companies to… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

https://cole.house.gov/media-center/weekly-columns/real-benefits-and-real-results Real Benefits and Real Results 2019-12-31 2019 2019-12 Republican House OK Tom Cole C001053 cole.house.gov legacy Just over two years ago, President Donald Trump signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act into law. Since then, Americans are not only getting to keep more of their hard-earned money as promised, but the economy is clearly booming as a result of the president's continual focus on pro-growth policies. Indeed, there are numerous signs that the country is better off and that the best is still ahead. Thanks to historic tax reform delivered by a Republican-led Congress and President Trump, wages continue to rise, unemployment has reached its lowest level in nearly 50 years, millions of jobs have been created and the economy is growing by leaps and bounds. Holiday shopping sales in recent weeks are perhaps the most telling indicator that tax reform is working for the American people. Following strong sales of $31.2 billion on Black Friday, it was just before Christmas on Super Saturday that U.S. retail sales reached $34.4 billion exceeding any single sales day on record in the United States. Craig Johnson, who leads retail research firm Customer Growth Partners, said it best: Job growth and fatter wallets, along with stronger household finances, have put consumers in a buying mood this season. Tax reform isn't the only economic policy promoted by the Trump Administration that is delivering real results. Throughout his time in office, the president has focused a lot on improving America's ability to compete and thrive in the international trading sphere. Just a couple weeks ago, I was proud that the House finally passed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which was skillfully negotiated and secured on America's behalf by President Trump more than a year ago. Considering that the United States trades with Mexico and Canada more than any other countries in the world, it is certainly worthwhile to strengthen that relationship and to modernize the outdated terms of trade outlined by the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). However, USMCA goes beyond reinforcing the relationship we have with our North American… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Every time I returned to Kentucky throughout 2019, I heard loud and clear the priorities of my constituents, which have been to enact policies that put working Americans first. While this year has offered unique challenges in a time of rising partisanship, many of my congressional colleagues and I have still made meaningful progress. The year ended with equal parts accomplishment and frustration. On a positive note, the House finally acted on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), President Trump’s new and improved trade deal aimed at helping farmers, manufacturers and America’s middle class. My Republican colleagues and I have worked consistently to pressure House Democrats to bring the USMCA up for a vote, marking a major trade victory for President Trump. As a farmer and Kentucky’s former Commissioner of Agriculture, moving forward on the USMCA was highly important to me so that our farmers could have access to new markets. Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats chose to delay and block all kinds of important legislation in order to rush through their partisan, baseless impeachment of President Trump. Ever since the President was inaugurated, their goal has been to impeach him. House Democrats impeached the President not because he committed impeachable offenses, of which there are none, but simply because they dislike him and do not think they can beat him in the 2020 election. I strongly opposed the impeachment charade, speaking against the articles of impeachment on the House floor. However, there were some significant accomplishments in 2019 that I was honored to play a role in. As the Republican Leader of the Education and Labor Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Human Services, I took advantage of new opportunities to delve into issues that affect some of our most vulnerable members of society – children and senior citizens. I worked with my colleagues… 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-06-27T23:45:33Z

Those of us who live and work in South and West Texas know well that the United States and Mexico share a very special economic relationship. We count on cross-border commerce to serve as an economic engine across local communities. Our neighbors export goods and services or rely on imports to perfect and market to American consumers. And American companies are building in Mexico and creating jobs on both sides of the border. This system is not without its challenges but it works. USMCA gets a lot right. It improves the enforcement mechanism for all aspects of the agreement so that American workers and American innovation can be protected. This may seem like legal talk, but when American workers are undercut by foreign actors, we all know it's the Americans who end up out of work. Free trade with Mexico and Canada impacts just about every aspect of our lives, from the food on our tables and the clothes on our backs to the fuel in our cars. The United States, Mexico and Canada build things together, and this landmark trade deal makes sure that we continue our important trilateral relationship built from NAFTA into the 21st Century and beyond. We also live in a world where our nation's military and economic dominance is no longer guaranteed, and the USMCA is vital for us to maintain our quality of life as we know it. This trade agreement will allow continued economic prosperity and North American competitiveness as China tries to replace the United States as the most important economy in the world. The USMCA also helps us continue to lead the way in advanced technology by modernizing NAFTA to account for technological change over the last quarter century. Theagreement also includes recapitalization of the North American Development Bank, or NADBank, which helps fund local infrastructure projects in border communities. Below is a snapshot of the constituent services covered in 2019, as well as a video compilation of the Congressman's year in review. Video compilation can be found by clicking this image, and visiting the Congressman's Facebook pagehere. Legislatively, the Congressman introduced several pieces of legislation and pushed for funding to help communities across the 16th District. In addition to securing funding for expanding broadband and helping recovery efforts in towns that need it most, Congressman Kinzinger also saw his legislation become law. Here are just a few of those legislative wins in 2019: The Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area Amendment Act added Livingston County, the City of Freeport in Stephenson County, and the City of Jonesboro in Union County to the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area (ALNHA) to ensure all sites of Lincoln's legal career and the Lincoln-Douglas debates would be included. This bipartisan, Kinzinger-led provision was included in the final Lands Package and signed into law in March. Congressman Kinzinger co-authored bipartisan legislation on fair-drug pricing that quickly passed the House with overwhelming support and was signed into law on September 27, 2019. TheFair and Accurate Medicaid Pricing Actclosed a loophole that allowed pharmaceutical companies to charge higher prices for medications and send the bill to the taxpayers. In an op-ed today for the Charleston Gazette-Mail, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) highlights the significant economic growth in West Virginia over the last year. Recently, Senator Capito released a video highlighting various events from 2019 and her work for West Virginians throughout the past year. The video can be viewed here. Future economic growth is contingent upon fostering an environment that promotes entrepreneurship, and I am committed to continuing to support this type of environment. Doing so will help innovative startups access critical federal research dollars that will help them make their ideas and visions realities, and attract other businesses whether they be tech, manufacturing, energy or others to set up shop in West Virginia, Senator Capito writes. The full op-ed is available here and below. 2019: A Year of Economic GrowthBy: U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) Charleston Gazette-MailDecember 31, 2019 2019 marked a year of significant economic growth for West Virginia and we have the numbers to show for this improvement. We are attracting new businesses, creating an environment for existing ones to expand, and, as a result, West Virginias unemployment rate is decreasing overall. But, the good news doesnt end here. Proctor & Gambles facility in Tabler Station is now up to 1,100 employees, including two co-located suppliers. Toyota announced earlier this year that it would begin manufacturing hybrid transaxles and its new employment target will approach 1,800. Hino Motors Manufacturing relocated and expanded its operations in Mineral Wells, increasing employment to 800. She reached the milestone of casting 7,000 votes in June of this year. Senator Collins holds the longest perfect roll call vote record in Senate history. She has been present for every roll call vote that has occurred in the Senate since she was sworn into office in January 1997. Senator Collins is now 12th in Senate seniority. Growing up in Aroostook County, I learned the importance of a strong work ethic at a very early age. I am proud to bring the Maine values of hard work and dedication to the U.S. Senate. It is an honor to represent the people of Maine, and I have always believed it is important to show up for every vote and make sure their voices are heard, said Senator Collins. My vote record was inspired by the legendary Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith, who did not miss a vote for 13 years until surgery forced her to do so. Senator Collins surpassed Senator Smith's record in 2005. Senator Smith cast 2,941 consecutive votes over 13 years before missing her first vote on September 6, 1968. Senator Collins' first vote in the Senate was on January 22, 1997, when she voted to confirm Madeleine Albright as Secretary of State. Her second vote, the same day, was to confirm former Maine Senator Bill Cohen as Secretary of Defense. Senator Collins succeeded Secretary Cohen in the Senate. In addition to not missing any roll call votes, Senator Collins continues to return home to Maine on weekends and during state work periods to meet with constituents and visit communities, businesses, and schools throughout the state. Senator Collins holds the longest perfect, unbroken record of Senate roll call votes, and she has the third-longest consecutive vote streak. Cornyn. Since 2011, the Debbie Smith Act has helped reduce the backlog of unsubmitted rape kits in Texas by approximately 90 percent. The benefits of continuing the programs created under the Debbie Smith Act cannot be overstated, and I appreciate all of the advocates who have fought with us at every step of the way. The Debbie Smith Crime Victims Protection Act reauthorizes the Debbie Smith Act to continue the testing of DNA evidence, including rape kits, from unsolved crimes nationwide, DNA training and education for law enforcement, correctional personnel, and court officers, and the Sexual Assault Forensic Exam Program, which supports forensic nurse training throughout the country. Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Martha McSally (R-AZ), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Richard Burr (R-NC), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Tim Scott (R-SC), and Josh Hawley (R-MO) were original cosponsors. Background on the Debbie Smith Act: The Debbie Smith Act was originally signed into law in 2004 to provide local and state crime laboratories resources to end the backlog of untested DNA evidence from unsolved crimes, analyze DNA samples, and increase the capacity to process DNA in order to guard against future backlogs. Since it became law, more than 641,000 DNA cases have been processed. In addition to crime scene evidence, Debbie Smith funds are also utilized to process offender DNA samples to ensure evidence from unsolved crimes can be matched against a database of known offenders, similar to the criminal fingerprint databases. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following message wishing Coloradans a Happy New Year and recapping his work and accomplishments in 2019 on behalf of the people of the Centennial State. NOTE:Clickhereto view remarks from Senator Gardner. This holiday season as we spend time with our families, look back on the past year, and plan for the year ahead, I want to share some highlights of our successful efforts for Colorado this year, said Senator Gardner. This year, we successfully passed permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund and moved the Bureau of Land Management headquarters to Grand Junction to better protect our public lands and better serve the people impacted by the BLM's decisions. And we've made great progress to lower the cost of health insurance in Colorado. Our state's reinsurance waiver will lower costs for Coloradans on the individual market by more than 20 percent, and the full repeal of the health insurance tax will save Colorado families hundreds of dollars a year. As we head into the next year, I feel honored to represent the greatest state in the country and I will continue to fight every day for what's right for Colorado. Notable achievements for the state of Colorado in 2019 include: The Senate passed Gardner's bipartisanVA Provider Accountability Act, which would bring much needed accountability to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This bill is part of Gardner'sVA Readiness Initiative, which he launched to ensure the government is always ready to assist veterans and prepared to fulfill the promises our country has made them. The National Defense Authorization Act wassigned into lawand included numerous Gardner-supported provisions, including authorization of $322 million for military construction projects in Colorado, the largest pay raise for troops in a decade, and 12 weeks of paid parental leave for all 2.1 million federal employees. U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), a member of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Aviation and Space, released the following statement regarding the heavy drone activity in Eastern Colorado: I've been in contact with the FAA and I'm encouraged that they've opened a full investigation to learn the source and purpose of the drones. I will continue to closely monitor the situation, said Senator Gardner. Background: In December, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a proposed rule aimed at requiring drone users to implement a Remote Identification (Remote ID) system, which allows drones to be tracked and identified. Senator Gardner supported Remote ID requirements in the FAA Extension, Safety, and Security Act of 2016, which prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to make this new proposed rule. ### Cory Gardner is a member of the U.S. Senate serving Colorado. He sits on the Energy & Natural Resources Committee, the Foreign Relations Committee, the Commerce, Science, & Transportation Committee, and is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) marked a series of policy and oversight accomplishments of 2019. Serving the people of Iowa as their United States Senator is my first priority and it's an honor that I take seriously. As chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and through my extensive oversight efforts, my work focuses on making government more transparent, efficient and accountable to Iowans and all Americans, Grassley said. Grassley holds at least one question-and-answer session in each of Iowa's 99 counties every year to hear concerns and answer questions on any subject from Iowans. In 2019, Grassley completed his annual county meetings for the 39th year in a row. Grassley holds meetings in a variety of settings to ensure that a broad cross-section of Iowans can participate, including businesses, schools, town meetings and factory floors. Although the setting may differ from county to county, the format is the same: Iowans set the agenda. In addition to his annual meetings, Grassley attended or convened a variety of events and forums, including: In 2019, Grassley continued his social media series called #CornWatch and launched #SoybeanWatch. These gave followers an insider look at farming operations and tracked the progression of the corn and soybean crops grown on the Grassley family farm in New Hartford, Iowa from planting through harvest. When the Senate is in session, Grassley sets aside eight 15-minute meetings every Monday through Thursday to meet with Iowans in Washington, D.C., including advocacy groups, associations, chambers of commerce and local business leaders, students and families. Throughout 2019, Grassley met with more than 1,200 groups of Iowans visiting the nation's capital and discussed a variety of policy issues affecting Iowans such as trade, tax reform and prescription drug pricing. Grassley also joined 25 Iowa schools for photos on the Senate steps or Q&As via video conferencing and, as an avid fan of Iowa universities, attended dozens of sporting events. The bill would award a Congressional Gold Medal to the WWII mariners in recognition of their dedicated and vital service. The House successfully passed the companion bill in September, sponsored by Representative John Garamendi (D-CA). The Senate version of the bill now heads to the House for final approval. Despite their loyalty and patriotic services and commitment to the United States, our WWII Merchant Marines didn't receive their veteran status until nearly forty years after the war had ended. The Merchant Mariners provided crucial services during WWII by transporting soldiers, tanks, airplanes, ammunition, fuel, and food to aid soldiers on the front lines. This legislation recognizes the unsung heroes of the WWII conflict, for their loyalty and bravery, as they risked their lives to keep the Allied troops properly equipped, said Senator Murkowski. I'm thankful my Senate colleagues recognizes the importance of honoring the brave Merchant Mariners for their pivotal role in our nation's history and their efforts in defense of freedom. Background: The U.S. Merchant Marine transports soldiers and supplies for our nation's military through commercial, non-naval ships. It is estimated that around 8,300Merchant Mariners died or went missing during WWII. As many as 12,000 were wounded, and 633 became prisoners of war. Smith' 2019-12-30 2019 2019-12 Republican House NJ Christopher Smith S000522 chrissmith.house.gov legacy BY SANNE YOUNG THE COAST STAR After decades of effort, a new national strategy for fighting Lyme disease finally has been signed into law. After 21 years, I'm ecstatic. We finally got it, said U.S. Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey, who joined fellow Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, in sponsoring the measure to fight tick-borne diseases. Lawmakers, instead of letting the bill go through the usual committee process, did a workaround, Rep. Smith said. The bill was attached to a massive end-of-year spending package passed by Congress and signed into law by President Donald J. Trump on Friday, Dec. 20. Mr. Smith, who represents New Jersey's Fourth Congressional District, said the legislation authorizes $150 million in federal funding over five years for the federal Centers of Excellence to create a new whole-of-government national strategy to combat Lyme, as well as for local Lyme initiatives, he said. The new law will open doors to innovative therapies, treatments, better diagnosis and more accurate information for doctors and their patients with Lyme. New Jersey is a hot spot for the disease, the second highest state in the nation in thenumber of cases reported, 40,000 in 2018, said Wall Township resident Patricia V. Smith [no relation to the congressman], president of the National Lyme Disease Association. We're certainly thrilled to see more distribution of funds for tick-borne diseases and for providing development of a national strategy, said Ms. Smith, who first began a campaign for Lyme awareness in the 1980s when a number of Wall school teachers and students contracted the disease. The legislation, formerly the TICK Act, now is named for Sen. Kay Hagan [D-NC] who died in October of encephalitis, caused by the tick-borne Powassan virus. Rep. Smith said the new national strategy will be key. Now, you will have every agency working on the same page to combat the explosion of this terrible disease, he said, from the federal Centers for Disease Control and the National Institutes… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

While most activity in the House centered around efforts to impeach our President, I did not let that stop me from fighting for you and our state. One of our most significant victories this year for Alabama was reforming the Medicare wage index formula. For three decades, hospitals in rural states like Alabama have been underpaid in Medicare reimbursements. Upon taking office, I began fighting for a fix. With the election of President Trump, I found that we had an administration willing to listen and work with us, and as a result, Alabama's hospitals have begun receiving significantly higher Medicare reimbursements. In the past, these dollars were siphoned off towards high population areas like New York and Los Angeles at an unfair rate. I was also proud to lead the Trump Administration's school choice bill in the House, the Education Freedom Scholarship and Opportunity Act. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos asked me and Senator Ted Cruz to be their champions in Congress for this Trump policy priority, and support continues growing for our bill. It was an honor to join President Trump several weeks ago in an education roundtable at the White House and to advocate for providing options for students locked into failing schools. As a member of the Armed Services Committee, I'm proud of my record advocating for a strong national defense. This year Congress passed an important National Defense Authorization Act that enables us to rebuild our military readiness after years of stagnation in the Obama administration. The bill allows for continued counter drug enforcement at our border, accelerates programs to counter Chinese and Russian aggression, and authorizes important bipartisan nuclear modernization programs. It also gives our troops the largest pay raise in a decade, repeals the widow's tax, and establishes the Space Force. Happy Hanukkah! Said Grothman. Hanukkah is a joyous occasion that celebrates an important part of Jewish history. I am thankful for all of my Jewish friends and hope they have enjoyed a happy and safe holiday season. While many are celebrating and spending time with family, let us not forget that anti-Semitism is still far too prevalent throughout the United States and the world. Earlier this month we saw an anti-Semitic shooting at a grocery store in New Jersey and just this past weekend a man broke into a New York Rabbi's home and stabbed five people. These heinous acts have no place in our society. I will continue to use my position in Congress to promote pro-Jewish policies and sentiments. -30- U.S. Rep. This provision was included in the recent spending package Congress passed and the president signed into law. Families in Southwest Washington who are struggling to afford housing, child care and medical expenses should be able to access their own savings when they need it most often, that's the year following the birth or adoption of a child, Herrera Beutler said. I'm pleased to have supported another common-sense solution that eases the financial burden working families face in Ridgefield, Centralia, Bingen and all across our region. The types of plans that qualify include Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) and 401(k) and 403(b) plans. Withdrawals of up to $5,000 are exempt from the 10 percent early withdrawal tax and can be made within one year of the birth of a child or finalization of adoption. If the parents have separate retirement plans, they can each withdraw up to $5,000. This provision takes effect December 31, 2019. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

U.S. Rep. Fred Keller made the announcement of the bill's advancement in a statement on Thursday, Dec. 19. The bill was advanced out of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, said Keller. He noted that the bill, H.R. 4279, has received bipartisan support from PA's congressional delegation. Keller is spearheading the drive to rename the Laceyville Post Office in honor of Piccotti, who was an Air Force veteran and the founder of the Hunts for Healing organization. Hunts for Healing helps soldiers wounded in combat and other combat veterans transition back into civilian life by allowing them to experience the joys of hunting. Mindy's dedication to helping her fellow veterans return to civilian life is a lasting legacy that shows her selflessness and her sense of our society's continuing need to serve those who safeguard our freedom, said Keller. Naming the Laceyville Post Office in her honor is a fitting and appropriate display for the indelible mark she continues to leave on countless heroes. I am proud to see this legislation move forward and hope it will soon pass the full House. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Tom Reed released a letter sent toSUNYSystem Chancellor Kristina Johnsonand President ofSUNYBinghamton Harvey Stengerfollowing a visit by renowned economist Art Laffer to Binghamton University where he was shouted off the stage and escorted out of the room by security before having the opportunity to speak. This happened, according to press reports, because the protesters did not approve of the campus Young Americans Foundation and the College Republicans groups in which Laffer was addressing. The importance of the free exchange of ideas is one of the bedrocks of our democracy. So integral, the right to freedom of speech was enshrined in the first amendment of the United States Constitution. A free and democratic country depends on a well-informed, educated, and opinioned public free from concerns that their speech or beliefs will be constrained or prohibited. A country where speech, especially political in nature, is infringed cannot thrive,Tom said in the letter. Tom requested the following answers regarding SUNY free speech policies: Are there anySUNY-wide restrictions or limitations on the free-expression of political speech, including gatherings, meetings, tabling, and distribution of materials? Are these requirements enforced fairly and without regard to content or group? Are there anySUNY-wide restrictions on the formations of political clubs? Are there anySUNY-wide restrictions on clubs inviting guest speakers? What efforts are made to ensure clubs are able to function without retaliation or harm? What balance doesSUNYstrive to make when protecting the right of a club to invite and hear from a guest speaker with the right of students to protest such speaker? What disciplinary actions are enforced by the University when students take actions to stifle free speech? Each month, Rep. Walker awards a constituent, business, or organization in his district for displaying extraordinary acts of service and for making a difference in the lives around them. Michael Graves is the founder of Actively Changing Together (ACT), an organization that provides support services to help inmates transition out of jail. I had been talking with some of the inmates and working with them and trying to see what they wanted to do once they get out of jail and trying to point them and motivate them, and they wanted reading materials," Graves said. After recognizing that local inmates lacked books and reading material, Michael began an effort to collect books to create a library at the Alamance County jail. Michael Graves is a beaming example of someone that saw a need in their community and stepped up to address it, Walker said. His selfless service is changing the lives of justice-involved persons for the better. My deepest is hope is that Michael's efforts to share the gift of knowledge with the incarcerated are emulated across our state and our country. He initially planned to start donating between 10-20 books a month. After his father unexpectedly passed away on July 8th of this year, he asked that books be donated for the jail in lieu of flowers. The project grew into an even bigger initiative with the help of his church, Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Burlington. Michael vividly recounts that he sent an email one night at 3:30 a.m.to his pastor about his ideas for the book collection, and his pastor exceeded his expectations; the church formed a partnership with Michael to collect books for the inmates and serves as a drop-off site for the books. One thousand books were collected in the first 30 days. Michael reports that the most popular literary genres among the inmates are motivational books, which helps keep their spirits u… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

The United States has one of the highest rates of human trafficking in the world, which increases in local communities that are home to major tourist events and heavily marketed attractions. With less than two months before the Super Bowl, my colleagues and I wanted to hear from local experts about how the federal government can partner with state and local law enforcement to raise awareness and potentially save lives. Bob Rodgers, the President and CEO of Street Grace, a faith-based organization in Georgia which is committed to ending the sexual trafficking of children throughout our nation, testified before our subcommittee where he called for comprehensive solutions. Click on the image below to watch his opening remarks. When Natural State residents call for help navigating the federal bureaucracy, my staff and I are here to assist however we can. In 2019, my office received more than 2,500 new requests for help with federal agencies, including assisting 44 Arkansans with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), 223 problems with veterans' disability claims and 26 issues with the U.S. Postal Service. While the need for help is steady each year, knowing about these problems gives me a better idea of what is working and not working in the federal government. Over the last 12 months, more constituents asked me for help with military records and medals than any other issue. Although this is usually a top request, it accounted for more than 25 percent of the requests for assistance I received. It is not surprising that veterans and their families need help with these issues. It can be overwhelming to try to track down documents that could be at one of several different repositories or to reconstruct files that were destroyed in a 1970s fire. We also get many last-minute requests from families and funeral homes when they need documents to provide proper honors at a funeral or proof of eligibility for burial in a National Cemetery. This is important work and I am pleased that my office has developed expertise with these issues. Notable among this year's casework achievements was obtaining the 70-year-old medals of WWII and Korean War veteran Thomas Vaughns. The 99-year-old served with the Tuskegee Airmen and spent his life in service to others, earning several medals for his dedication to our country. I was honored to present these medals to him during a ceremony at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Mr. Vaughns is a tremendous example of the spirit of our Greatest Generation. Other challenging requests my office received included a number of international and immigration issues. Above all, I thank Captain Satz for her service to our nation. In June, Captain Satz became the first female Marine to complete the F-35B Basic Course. Before she joined the Marines, she earned her commercial pilots license flying helicopters. I understand Captain Satz has been assigned to her first operational unit: the Green Knights of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 in Iwakuni, Japan. My home state of Idaho is full of trailblazers. Among them are the women who are leaders, innovators and architects of a new reality where the first woman to . . . is rightfully becoming a descriptor of the past. Captain Satz is a courageous Marine fighter jet pilot. She is also a groundbreaker who worked hard to complete her training and prepare for her service ahead. A:Advances in medical science, specifically organ transplants, save lives and give loved ones a new lease on life. Incredible gifts of life are made possible when family members and even total strangers donate to a patient in need. Postmortem donations give the gift of life from deceased donors who match an individual on the national wait list through the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN). Administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the OPTN operates the national database of all patientswaiting for a transplant. The OPTN contracts with the Unified Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), which is charged with overseeing the 58 organ procurement organizations (OPOs) located throughout the United States. Americans on the wait list are in a life and death situation. It is imperative the system functions fairly and effectively. There's a scarcity of available organs compared to the number of people added to the wait list every single day. This shortfall contributes to a dire situation in which 113,000 Americans on the wait list risk losing their lives without receiving a transplant in time. According to the head of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), at least 20 Americans die each day because a potentially life-saving organ transplant is out of reach. Based on investigative reports and whistleblower accounts, I'm concerned about inefficiencies and mismanagement of the procurement process,as well as the performance standards used by the 58 OPOs. As chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, which has legislative and oversight jurisdiction of many public health programs, I'm calling for increased oversight to correct flaws in this vital network in the nation's health care system. For more than a dozen years, the need for more accountability and transparency in the organ procurement and transplantati… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Phone Call with President Trump On Sunday, I spoke with President Trump regarding the recent news that Boeing will suspend production of the 737 Max jetliner and what that means for our state. The President assured me he will work with his team at the White House to see if there are ways that he and the administration can be of help. I will continue to stay engaged with President Trump, Spirit Aerosystems, Boeing and the FAA until this issue is resolved. I understand what the production of the 737 Max means to Spirit and the Wichita community, and I also recognize the problem extends to smaller suppliers and subcontractors in the area. This is a serious issue, and I want the jetliner back into production as soon as it has been determined safe to fly. In addition, I will continue to work with the Department of Defense to get more military work for Wichita manufacturers. Read more about my call here in the Wichita Eagle. Touring the North American Pipe Corporation On Monday afternoon, I stopped in McPherson for an informative tour of North American Pipe Corporation (NAPCO) which is owned by Westlake Chemical of Houston, Texas. I'm proud of the hard work and successes we've been able to achieve for Idahoans thanks to strong united Republican leadership in the Senate, said Senator Risch.2019 has been full of significant legislative victories, and in 2020 I'll continue advancing conservative legislation that reduces the federal deficit, upholds the Constitution, and builds on the great economic success we have achieved under the Trump administration. 1.Risch Brings a Women's Business Center to Idaho After several years work, Senator Risch partnered successfully with the Trump administration to establish a Women's Business Center (WBC) in Idaho. After long congressional debates over this important bill, the overwhelming votes in the House and Senate gave a major win for all our citizens. It shows that supporting our military remains a bipartisan priority. With President Donald Trump's signature making this legislation the law of the land, America's armed forces will have what they need in 2020. The NDAA fulfills Congress's most basic responsibility to provide for the common defense by setting funding levels and priorities for the Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Army. This year's defense authorization builds on the progress of the last three years and is a strong step forward as our military comes back from the damaging Obama-era cuts and takes care of troops and their families. Wins in this NDAA The NDAA for Fiscal Year 2020 authorizes $738 billion in defense funding, consistent with recent years and below Cold War spending when measured as a percentage of the total U.S. economy. This money supports the Department of Defense's normal operations while giving a much-needed pay raise to service members. It will also help the Pentagon adapt to changing threats. Some of the most important provisions will give our Navy professionals the ships they need. These measures will authorize full funding for the LPD-31 and LHA-9, amphibious ships to be built by the experts in Mississippi, as well as three new destroyers. I have long supported these programs, especially through the SHIPS Act, which I authored and which will increase the size of America's fleet to 355 vessels, the number required to keep our country safe. Satellites and cyber weapons will also present significant challenges going forward. In 2016, then-candidate Trump promised to address these issues by creating an American Space Force. This NDAA keeps the president's promise by establishing that new service branch within the Air Force, getting America ready for launch. We quickly landed in Montgomery as one of our founders has a long history in the area. Over the past few years, our business has grown from a Kickstarter idea to a growing small business selling thousands of bicycles per year to locations all over the world. However, last year when the section 301 tariffs increased on imported bicycles and components, our growing business was put in jeopardy. So what did we do? First, we started to build out our own assembly and paint operation at our Montgomery facility for custom runs for major apparel and hotel brands. Next, understanding that to continue growing our business we had to keep our high-volume bicycle orders in our Montgomery facility, we reached out to U.S. Congressman Fred Keller's office for help. Fred and his staff promptly visited our Montgomery operation and met with our team to discuss the challenges of our young and growing business. Shortly thereafter, he, along with U.S. Senator Pat Toomey, each wrote letters in support of Priority Bicycles' exclusion requests to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to urge them to provide Priority Bicycles with a tariff exemption. They noted that manually-powered bicycles are not the products that the 301 tariffs were designed to target, as these items are not strategic to China's growth, and that crippling our business would cost U.S. jobs instead of protecting them. With their help, Priority Bicycles has now received the first of two requested tariff exemptions. Because of this, we are now able to make additional hires and begin to get our company back on a path to growth. When others in the industry ask why we are growing, we are clearly able to credit the pro-business benefits of northcentral Pennsylvania, the strong support shown by Congressman Fred … 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Instead, they came to Congress to remove a duly-elected President in an attempt to gain their power back. Now, in her own quid pro quo, Speaker Pelosi refuses to send her articles of impeachment to the Senate unless they meet her ludicrous partisan demands. House Democrats claimed their case was compelling, but now they want the Senate to do more investigating. It's become clear that this is purely political exercise for Democrats and was never about a crime. It's time to move on. Clickhereor on the image above to watch the interview. On the wave of anti-Semitic attacks in New York and New Jersey: "It's really alarming, and we're seeing a growing anti-Semitism. It's something that we all need to speak out against, people of all faiths, because you know whether it's a synagogue in Pittsburgh, whether it's the home of an Orthodox Rabbi, we all need to stand up and say it's wrong to attack people based on their faith. And to see this anti-Semitism growing throughout our country, it's something we all need to not only be alarmed about, but also stand up against." [...] "I think our reaction needs to be quick and direct, that anti-Semitism is wrong, that attacks on people of faith are wrong, and that regardless of who's attacked we're going to stand up against it, not try to figure out who did it that's law enforcement's job and law enforcement is doing a great job, by the way, of making sure that they're getting the suspect.Too often in Washington, you see people trying to figure out somebody's motives instead of just saying it's wrong and attack it, call it out for what it is. Anti-Semitism is wrong, we need to stand up against it, and it's unfortunately starting to pop up all around the country more and more, so we need to stand up and be very vocal and very united against it." The bipartisan caucus raises awareness of the importance of afterschool programs and advocates for vital resources that promote quality programming across the country. Congressman Don Young (AK-At-Large) will serve as the Republican Co-Chair. Afterschool programs provide a safe and reliable setting for our students to access mentorship, learning enrichment, nutrition, and physical activity between 3 P.M. and 6 P.M., making afterschool programs essential for working families, said Congresswoman Lowey. I am eager to continue once again as Co-Chair of the Congressional Afterschool Caucus, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to support afterschool programs and the children and families they serve. As a former teacher, I know how important it is for children to have access to safe and educational afterschool programs, said Congressman Don Young. Parents across the country work hard to support their families, and afterschool programming is a critical resource for working families who do not have the option of choosing between their job or their children. The mission of the Congressional Afterschool Caucus is crucially important, and I look forward to the work ahead to ensure that our nation's children and their families have the resources necessary to succeed. Afterschool programs, and the millions of students and families who rely on them, are fortunate to have Representatives Nita Lowey and Don Young co-chairing the House Afterschool Caucus this year, said Jodi Grant, executive director of the Afterschool Alliance. Their skillful advocacy, vast experience and deep dedication to making afterschool programs available to all children and families make them highly effective champions. http://luetkemeyer.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=400304 Blaine's Bulletin: End of the Year 2019-12-27 2019 2019-12 Republican House MO Blaine Luetkemeyer L000569 luetkemeyer.house.gov legacy As we close out 2019, I always like to take a moment and reflect on the past year. With all of the headlines, endless news coverage, and last week's vote it would be easy to assume impeachment and the months-long investigations in search of any evidence to support it was the only thing that took place in Congress. And, truth be told, for some of my colleagues it was the only thing they cared to accomplish. However, that last year was filled with many ups and downs for Missourians both in Washington and here at home. One very positive note is the continued economic success our country and state are experiencing. Unemployment has stayed at all-time lows while the Bureau of Economic Analysis recently announced wages have gone up by 5.34% compared to last year. In the summer U.S. job openings outnumbered available workers by the widest gap in history. And, the passage of the USMCA is expected to create 176,000 new jobs and add $68.2 billion in economic activity across the country. While rising tides lift all ships, the rising of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers earlier this year devastated communities across Missouri. The flooding decimated homes and farmland and prevented many farmers from planting their crops at all. In Mid-Missouri the floods came right on the heels of devastating tornados that injured our neighbors, flattened homes, and destroyed businesses. While Mother Nature reminded us that no economic momentum can stand in her way, the reaction to the disasters in the weeks and months that followed delivered the even more powerful message that at the worst of times we show the best of us. The outpouring of support, resources, and willingness to lend a hand was a testament to the true character of our community and one of my most heartwarming memories of the year. In an extremely partisan and slow-moving Congress filled with frustrations, there were also several key victories for our area. Recently the U.S. Export-Import Bank, which financed over $300 million worth of Missouri exports in the last few ye… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

https://westerman.house.gov/media-center/weekly-columns/closing-out-2019 Closing Out 2019 2019-12-27 2019 2019-12 Republican House AR Bruce Westerman W000821 westerman.house.gov legacy It's hard to believe 2019 is almost over. This year has been filled from beginning to end with constituent meetings, legislation, House votes, Arkansas business tours and lots of time in the Atlanta airport waiting for my connecting flight to D.C. I think the numbers speak for themselves: in 2019, my office mailed out 212,320 letters to constituents, opened 826 new casework files, held 58 mobile offices around the Fourth District, gave 152 U.S. Capitol tours and visited more than 37 local Arkansas businesses. I also sponsored or cosponsored 140 bills in the House. Many of these bill ideas came directly from constituents. Take, for example, the Keeping Our Promises Act and H.R. 2201, inspired by Mr. Bill Rhodes. Mr. Rhodes has consistently run into roadblocks with the VA when trying to get medical benefits for Agent Orange exposure, and these bills would make it easier for Vietnam-era veterans to claim their benefits. The Fair Care Act is another example, written after receiving input from constituents about how unaffordable their health care had become. This legislation would insure more Americans at a lower cost, cover preexisting conditions and include more rural health options. Of course, all of this would mean nothing without each one of you. I'm constantly receiving encouraging texts, notes and calls from people back home, and it reminds me why I'm here in Washington. I'm humbled and honored to serve you in Congress, and look forward to another exciting year ahead. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Senator John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee, today brought together North Dakota producers, agriculture leaders and officials from the Farm Service Agency (FSA) to discuss the additional disaster assistance he secured for farmers impacted by severe weather. Hoeven advanced the measures as part of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 Agriculture Appropriations legislation that was passed and signed into law last week. Specifically, Hoeven ensured the legislation: Provides $1.5 billion in disaster assistance, which is being reprogrammed from unspent FY2017 disaster funding. This funding is in addition to the $3 billion in disaster assistance approved by Congress in May. Requires the Secretary of Agriculture to make disaster payments to eligible sugar cooperatives. Expands program eligibility to cover quality losses, in addition to production losses. Clarifies eligible disaster events by including losses related to excess moisture and D3 drought. With everything our farmers are working to overcome, this additional $1.5 billion in disaster assistance is an important step in providing certainty and helping them maintain their operations, said Hoeven. Our efforts in the Agriculture Appropriations bill were all about ensuring there was enough funding in place to help our farmers recover. Further, we worked to provide broad enough coverage to help producers with the wide range of challenges they face, from excessive moisture affecting grains to sugar beets frozen in the ground. In 1997, Portman authored theDrug-Free Communities Act,which supports evidence-based, community-oriented drug prevention programs. TheDrug-Free Communities Actis designed to improve effectiveness and accountability in these programs by capping the amount spent on administrative and overhead expenses, requiring all coalitions that receive grants to have experience in drug abuse prevention, and to match federal funding with local funds. No other drug prevention program has achieved the same reduction in youth drug use that has been achieved consistently by the DFC program. Portman issued the following statement on today's announcement: The Drug-Free Communities program is a proven, evidence-based, and community-oriented program that reduces substance abuse among our nation's youth. I authored this legislation more than 20 years ago during my time in the House of Representatives, and it remains today the most effective program for consistently reducing youth drug use. I founded the Coalition for a Drug-Free Greater Cincinnati, now PreventionFIRST!, as a comprehensive effort to address youth substance abuse, and it's something I care deeply about, said Portman.I have seen firsthand that prevention is a powerful tool to counteract drug use in our community, and this funding helps youth throughout Ohio make better, more healthy choices. We also worked to secure Ellsworth Air Force Base as the location for the first two B-21 Raider bomber squadrons - the training squadron and the operational squadron - solidifying Ellsworth’s long-term role in our national security. We were also hit hard by Mother Nature this year as tornadoes, flooding and late-winter storms wreaked havoc across the state. On a personal level, our family experienced its most difficult challenge to date, as Jean began cancer treatment for a malignant high-grade aggressive tumor near her sciatic nerve. Thanks to her highly-talented team of doctors and our extended South Dakota community who has continually supported us, we are on a path to recovery. Looking back on what we’ve accomplished in Washington, we’ve scored some significant victories. On the health care front, the CREATES Act was included in the end-of-year spending package. This legislation, which I cosponsored, will help lower the cost of prescription drugs by fast-tracking the approval process for generic drugs, thereby enhancing competition in the prescription drug market. We also fully repealed the Cadillac Tax, which is an Obamacare tax that threatened to raise healthcare premiums even higher by imposing a 40 percent tax on certain employer-sponsored healthcare plans. I led this effort in the Senate with Sen. Martin Heinrich of New Mexico, and our bill to repeal the Cadillac Tax had 64 cosponsors. Now that it is repealed, it no longer threatens to raise the premiums of over 400,000 South Dakotans who get their health insurance through their work. The Senate has also continued to confirm a record number of judges to federal courts. In the past three years, we’ve confirmed 187 judges, nominated by President Trump, to serve lifetime appointments on the federal bench. As we reflect on 2019, we are grateful for the booming economy, the freedoms we have as Americans, and the opportunities that another year brings. Spam robocalls are the target of the new law, which leaves a lane open for telemarketers. Roughly 54 billion robocalls were made to American cellphones in the first 11 months of 2019, according to YouMail, which offers a call blocking service. In Montana, during November alone there were more than 429,000 robocalls per day, or 17,900 per hour, according to YouMail. Seven of the top 20 robocalls placed to Montanans last month came from numbers with an in-state 406 area code. YouMail identified nearly 56% of Montana's robocalls in November as scams. Montana's only U.S. Representative, Republican Greg Gianforte, praised the robocall bill for including language that he had proposed in a House bill earlier in the year. During a House speech in May, Gianforte told the story of a Bozeman woman who received a robocall from a phone number once belonging to her deceased brother. Montanans hate robocalls, Gianforte said before Dec. 4 House vote on the TRACED Act. This bill includes language from my bipartisan bill that helps prosecute illegal robocall companies. Voters cried foul in 2017 when robocalls featuring Vice President Mike Pence endorsing Gianforte's election were placed with Montanans. Gianforte denounced the political calls, which Montana prohibits, but doesn't enforce the prohibition. At the time, Gianforte's campaign said it wasn't the sources of the calls. A federal appeals court has since ruledMontana's banon political robocallsviolates the First Amendment. (Click HERE to view full story) 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

He was presented with Gold Insulin Vials to raise awareness for the rising cost of this life-saving drug byJDRF 2019 North Dakota Delegate for Children's Congress Danika Johnsonand several young people with diabetes who rely on insulin. For these young people and many others, insulin is not an option; it is a necessity, said Senator Cramer.Thank you to them and their families for sharing their stories and for discussing the progress we've made together. I encourage them to stay involved with similar groups and continue working on this important issue. TheGold Vial Projectis a social media campaign which uses gold vials to highlight the rising cost of insulin. They use the slogan, "insulin is worth its weight in gold, but should not cost as much." As the JDRF North Dakota 2019 Children's Congress Delegate, Danika traveled to Washington in July andmet with Senator Cramerto discuss ways to ensure access to quality, affordable health care. In theappropriations package passed last week, Congress included multiple bills led by Senator Cramer to address the high price of insulin, such as the Protecting Access to Biosimilars Act and the Affordable Insulin Approvals Now Act. Congress also provided $150 million for theSpecial Diabetes Program, which Senator Cramer offered his support for in June. Increasing the amount of generic and low-cost insulin in the market will decrease the burden placed on patients who rely on these drugs,Senator Cramersaid last week.I am pleased to see our bipartisan bill included in this package, and I plan to keep working to find more ways to encourage competition and free market solutions to the rising cost of health care." ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Like other family farms across Iowa, our three-generation farming operation experiences many of the uncertainties blanketing our profession. It's this experience that has spurred me to work hard on policy focused on improving health care for motherswhether it's keeping them safe during pregnancy, expanding access to maternal telehealth services or simply allowing mothers to carry breast milk through airport security. These are issues that matter to everyone. Why? Because you either are a mom or you have a mom. Protecting moms starts during pregnancy. Shockingly, the United States has the highest maternal mortality rate among developed nations in the world. This is unacceptable, and the tragedy of moms dying during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum has motivated me to take action. Last year my bipartisan bill, the Preventing Maternal Deaths Act, was signed into law. This bill marked the strongest step Congress has taken to reverse the growing trend of maternal mortalitybut it was only a first step. This bill establishes and supports Maternal Mortality Review Committees to investigate every single pregnancy-related or pregnancy-associated death. Understanding the factors will help us develop strategies to prevent future mothers' deaths. More recently, two other important bills I'm supporting, the Maternal Health Quality Improvement Act and the Helping MOMS Act, were approved by congressional committee. Both bills take direct steps to reduce maternal mortality and strengthen support for moms living in rural areas. O little town of Bethlehem, How still we see thee lie. Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by; Yet in thy dark streets shineth The everlasting Light. The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in thee tonight. For Christ is born of Mary, And, gathered all above While mortals sleep, the angels keep Their watch of wond'ring love. O morning stars, together Proclaim the holy birth, And praises sing to God the King, And peace to men on earth. How silently, how silently The wondrous gift is giv'n! So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of his heav'n. No ear may hear his coming; But in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive him, still The dear Christ enters in. As the words of O Little Town of Bethlehem make clear, Christians believe something special happened in the town of Bethlehem. In a manger in this small town some 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ was born. We celebrate this event each Christmas, and we remember Bethlehem's part in the story as well. Because of its importance, Bethlehem has been a destination for pilgrims, the faithful, or just the curious over the centuries. St. Helena was the mother of Constantine the Great, the first Christian emperor of Rome. She famously built a church where the manger, in fact a cave, was traditionally believed to have existed. The church was dedicated in 339. Although that original church was later destroyed some two hundred years later, it was rebuilt, and as the Church of the Nativity is the oldest Christian church in daily use today. At this site in 1865, Phillips Brooks, the rector of Holy Trinity Church in Philadelphia, was inspired to write O Little Town of Bethlehem. He was on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, riding on horseback the roughly six miles between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, and on Christmas Eve participated in a service at the… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Though Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared an impeachment inquiry in the U.S. House of Representatives was underway earlier this fall, sparks first flew the moment the president was elected and caught fire when Democrats took control of the House this Congress, setting off politically-motivated and fruitless investigations into the Trump Administration. With that record, it should come as no surprise then that the process Democrats pursued to impeach the president was flawed purely partisan, blatantly unfair and clearly crafted for a pre-ordained outcome. Unlike any impeachment proceedings in modern history, the process has been partisan from the start, contradicting Speaker Pelosi's own words and assurances. Back in March of this year, she said, Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there's something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don't think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. Certainly, on something as consequential as impeaching the president, it is a disservice to the American people for one political party to dictate the terms of the process and then to charge ahead on a vote, with disputable evidence especially when there's an election less than 11 months away, when voters can decide, at the ballot box, whether or not to remove him from office. Unfortunately, that's exactly how things have played out in the House. While I was not on the investigating committees for impeachment, related matters twice moved through the House Rules Committee, where I serve as the Ranking Republican. First, the committee dealt with setting the actual process for impeachment in the House. Though Speaker Pelosi declared an impeachment inquiry was underway at the end of September, it wasn't until late October that a House vote was scheduled to authorize the inquiry and a process was put forward by Democra… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

I was proud to stand up for the Constitution and the rule of law by voting to oppose both articles of impeachment. Today's vote to impeach the president is the culmination of years of unwarranted investigations, baseless accusations, and a blind partisan disdain for President Trump that has caused House Democrats to abandon all respect for the Constitution and due process. Democrats have not proven one single fact or come up with one single piece of evidence proving President Trump committed an impeachable offense. Rather, by spending years engaged in this impeachment farce, Democrats have played directly into the hands of those who wish to sow political discord in this country. From where we stand today, it is difficult to tell who will treat House Democrats more harshly: voters or history. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

What resulted was an unfair process that lacked credibility and transparency and put a premium on political theater instead of facts. As the Democrats' case fell apart, they struggled to make their hyperbolic claims stick and so neither article of impeachment names a specific high crime or misdemeanor. By any objective standard, it is the thinnest case imaginable. The bottom line is President Trump has not committed an impeachable offense, and I was proud to vote against the articles of impeachment this week. USMCA Passes House After months of delays, Michigan workers have another reason to be optimistic about the economy thanks to passage ofH.R. 5430, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) Implementation Act. Passing the USMCA will put NAFTA in the rearview mirror and helplevel the playing field for farmers, workers, and manufacturers. With the USMCA, Michigan will be in a stronger economic position, boosting our state's manufacturing and agriculture sectors and creating many more good-paying job opportunities. Strengthening Retirement Security All Americans deserve a financially secure retirement. Yet for too many families, having enough money in their golden years is a source of constant worry and uncertainty. That is why I was proud to see my bipartisan Increasing Access to a Secure Retirement Actpass the House this week. The vote which I did not support added our President to the list with President Andrew Johnson and President Bill Clinton. As I have said many times before, impeaching a duly elected president is a serious undertaking that demands fairness, careful examination, and bipartisan support. Speaker Pelosi has said as much many times but changed her mind this Fall as the House violated each of these principles and made a mockery of our Constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight. In the end, the only thing bipartisan about the impeachment was the opposition to it. As you may have read in previous newsletters, like you, I do not believe that the President's words on his July phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky were perfect, but in the end, while pursuing a confusing and at times counterproductive foreign policy with respect to Ukraine was not in our nation's best interest, I also do not believe that it rose to the level of impeachment or of tearing our nation apart for the sake of politics. And now, having put America through impeachment in the House, for reasons I cannot explain Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is now refusing to name House managers and refusing to send the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate. Instead of sending the Articles to the Senate immediately, as Republicans did in 1998 and as the Founding Fathers clearly intended, House Democrats have chosen to drag-out this process further and to inject even more political poison into it. We can do better, and I hope that after a holiday spent with constituents that my colleagues will return to the House in January in full agreement with me that we must. Their letter was co-signed by 12 of their colleagues. The letter calls on Acting Secretary Wolf to increase the existing 66,000 H-2B visa cap to the maximum allowable by law, which is permitted by a provision in the recently-passed appropriations package. DHS used similar authority to provide 15,000 additional H-2B visas in fiscal years 2017 and 2018 and 30,000 visas in fiscal year 2019. The continued tightening of the labor market warrants this increase, the Senators wrote. When the Department of Labor opened the H-2B visa application window this past January, it immediately received applications for over 96,400 H-2B worker positions, nearly triple the 33,000 H-2B visas available for the second half of the fiscal year. This wave of applications reflected a severe shortage of seasonal workers in a very tight labor marketIn some industries, particularly tourism, we fear that the demand for workers so far outstrips the available supply that businesses could be forced to curtail operations, putting at risk the jobs of American workers who fill year-round positions at these establishments. We hope that you see the need for these additional visas, and that you understand the economic importance of them to seasonal businesses around the country, the Senators continued. We also ask that you release the additional visas as soon as possible, so that employers can prepare properly for the upcoming season. H-2B workers support American jobs and small businesses. Bipartisan research has found a direct correlation between increased numbers of H-2B workers and a rise in pay across the board for all employees. As required by law, employers must first make a concerted effort to hire American workers … 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

On Chanukah we reflect on religious freedom, on the miracles that took place in ancient times and the rededication of the Temple that followed. Today we can embrace that theme of rededication by rededicating ourselves to our families, our neighbors, our communities, and to the important work we have yet to complete here and abroad on the issues we care about. This is also a holiday when we think about exercising our religious freedom in safety and how that ability has been tragically threatened in recent years. In the last week, I'm proud to say we have made great progress in our efforts to better secure faith-based institutions here in the United States, including at synagogues. Just last week, working with many friends in the Jewish community across Ohio, the Senate passed my legislation formally authorizing the Department of Homeland Security's Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) for the next five years. This important program provides grants to nonprofits and faith-based organizations to help secure their facilities against a potential terrorist attack. This bill is now ready to be signed into law. In addition, the finalFY 2020 funding bill, which the president signed into law last Friday, includes $90 million for these nonprofit security grants a funding level I advocated for and the most ever allocated to this program. I am especially concerned by allegations surrounding Monrovia Mayor Jefferson Koijee and the thuggish behavior of the Congress for Democratic ChangeSecurity Force he heads. Credible allegations of serious human and civil rights violationsincluding attempted murder, rape, unlawful arrest, detentionand torturehave been attributed to Mayor Koijee by the International Justice Group,a US-based non-government organization. Today, U.S. Senators Lisa Murkowski, Dan Sullivan, and Congressman Don Young, all R-Alaska, announced that the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded $950,000 in grant funding to Covenant House Alaska to assist minor victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Human trafficking is undoubtedly one of the most horrific crimes and is unfortunately happening in all corners of the state. It's the second fastest growing crime on Alaska soilhappening in plain sight, said Senator Murkowski. As we continue to work to put an end to these heinous crimes, my hope is these grants will help make significant strides in helping victims get the support they so desperately need and deserve. Alaska's homeless youth not only face the hazards of subzero winter nights and a lack of food or warm clothing, but also the very real danger of exploitation and sex trafficking, which we know are all too prevalent in our state, said Senator Sullivan. At Covenant House Alaska, these kids find refugea safe place to sleep, a healthy meal, warm clothing, basic medical services and trauma counseling, support in finding employment or getting their high school degree, and a team of supportive and encouraging mentors. This Justice Department grant will bolster Covenant House Alaska's work reaching young victims of trafficking, offering them support and the life they deserve filled with opportunity and hope. I am so proud of the work Covenant House Alaska does to provide compassionate care and shelter for homeless youth, and those who have been victims of human trafficking, said Congressman Young. There is much work to do in the fight against child exploitation, but I know this funding will go a long way toward helping Covenant House Alaska protect some of our state's most vulnerable populations of young people. First and foremost, I completed my fifth 99 County Tour, my annual tradition where I visit every single one of Iowa's 99 counties within a calendar year, and hold public town hall meetings to hear directly from constituents. In fact, over the last year, I held 35 public town hall meetingsin small rural areas, like my hometown of Red Oak to Iowa's most populated county, Polk County. And as of this year, I've officially held a public event in all 99 counties since I first started serving in office. Getting out and hearing from Iowans in every corner of the state allows me not only to connect with my fellow Iowans, but to hear directly from folks about the issues that are important to them. This input has helped me every step of the way in delivering real results for the people of Iowa. Throughout 2019, Iowa experienced devastating flooding, including in areas around my hometown of Red Oak. As a member of the Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, I've used my position there to fight for flood relief, improved river management, and the development of Iowa's infrastructure. We passed a federal disaster relief package, which included my provision to extend USDA funds to cover Iowa farmers who had lost stored grain. In addition, following years of relentless efforts to secure federal funding for the Cedar Rapids flood mitigation project, I was thrilled to witness the groundbreaking of this critical infrastructure project. I also helped finalize the roll back of the harmful Obama-era Waters of the U.S.or WOTUSrule, which would have allowed the federal government to regulate 97% of the land in Iowa. After working closely with President Trump, we finally got E15 year-round by the summer driving season, which provided a boon for our farmers and growers, and more choice at the pump for Iowa consumers. I also helped secure an extension of the biodiesel tax credit which ensures predictability for Iowa biofuel prod… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Roberts, United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) President: Once this legislation is passed and signed by the President, Congress will have saved the lives of thousands throughout America. And while words cannot truly express what retired miners and their families are feeling this day, I can say this: Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's support was crucial to securing this legislation, and on behalf of America's retired coal miners I thank him for his efforts to ensure this became a reality. We will never forget it. Eddie Embry of Hartford, Kentucky, UMWA retiree: I cannot begin to tell you what this bill passing means to nearly 100,000 miners and their family members, many of whom are widows worried about their future. Kentucky coal communities appreciate so much Senator McConnell stepping forward and sponsoring a bill that will protect our vital pension and health benefits, said UMWA retiree Eddie Embry of Hartford, Kentucky. We were in a tough spot that we could not get ourselves out of without him. Senator McConnell's leadership was obviously crucial to the bill passing. We are eternally grateful to Senator McConnell as well as his staff who we've worked with on this matter. This will truly be a Merry Christmas! Raising the Minimum Tobacco Purchase Age to 21 Ben Chandler, Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky President and CEO: The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky is proud to have the leadership of Senator McConnell in protecting our children's health and future, and I was proud to work with him to raise the legal age for sales of all tobacco products from 18 to 21. Across our Commonwealth, we've seen an unprecedented spike in youth vaping and tobacco use, which can too often lead to a lifetime of nicotine dependence and serious health consequences. By helping keep these products away from middle and high school students, we're making progress to support the health of our kids. I'm glad Senator McConnell, as Majority Leader, could bu… 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
