| https://bean.house.gov/media/press-releases/click-wins-2024-congressional-app-challenge-northeast-florida | CLICK Wins 2024 Congressional App Challenge in Northeast Florida | 2024-12-30 | 2024 | 2024-12 | Republican | House | FL | Aaron Bean | B001314 | bean.house.gov | bean | https://bean.house.gov/media/press-releases | scraper | WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) named Sai Tejasvi Vegi, Annabel Kaye, Owen Bayley, and Dorothy Peterson of Stanton College Preparatory School as the winners of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge (CAC). Their app called “CLICK” assists users in limiting their time on social media by redirecting the user to more productive tasks based on their interests and needs. “I’m excited to announce that Sai, Annabel, Owen, and Dorothy—students at Stanton College Preparatory School in Jacksonville—are the winners of this year’s Congressional App Challenge! Their innovative thinking, creativity, and teamwork illustrate the bright future of technology in Northeast Florida. I’m proud of their hard work, and want them to keep coding and dreaming big,” said Congressman Bean. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The students were motivated by the increased usage of social media by young adults aged 13-17, which studies show leads to body image issues, cyberbullying, difficulty sleeping, and emotional withdrawal. The app was created in Android Studio, drafted in HTML and CSS on Replit, and the students conducted surveys of their peers to determine whether the app would be helpful or not. The CAC highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education allowing students to hone their coding and technology skills. Middle and high school students from the Fourth District are eligible to compete in this annual competition. This year’s winners will have their app displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building, featured online via the House of Representative’s website, and will be invited to a celebratory reception on Capitol Hill in honor of their achievement. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

The law closes a loophole that has allowed former members of Congress to continue to receive a taxpayer-funded pension during their appeals process after being convicted of certain felonies related to their time in office. Senator Rick Scott said, “I am incredibly proud to see our No CORRUPTION Act become law. If you are a Member of Congress and convicted of a crime involving public corruption you should lose all pension benefits provided to you by taxpayers and hardworking families—period. Making Washington work for American families requires real reforms that end the current dysfunction. We must never stop working to hold elected officials accountable and protect taxpayers’ hard-earned money.” Senator Jacky Rosen said, “Nevadans elected me to the Senate to stand up to corruption and protect their taxpayer dollars from abuse. That’s why I worked across the aisle with Senator Scott to close the loophole allowing politicians convicted of corruption to continue collecting taxpayer-funded pensions. I’m proud to see our bill become law, and I’ll keep working across the aisle to clean up Washington.” Demian Brady, Vice President of Research at the National Taxpayers Union Foundation said, “The reform in Senators Jacky Rosen’s and Rick Scott’s No CORRUPTION Act is a win for taxpayers. The commonsense bipartisan legislation closes a loophole in federal law that allows former members of Congress convicted of a crime to still collect a taxpayer-funded pension. We commend Senators Rosen and Scott for their leadership on this good government bill.” ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-03-30T11:08:25Z |

"The Bipartisan FISHES Act" is broadly-supported, bipartisan legislation to improve the federal regulatory process associated with the allocation of fishery disaster relief. Specifically, this commonsense and solutions-oriented bill seeks to expedite the distribution of federal disaster relief following official fishery disaster declarations–which the State of Florida has requested seven times since 2012. H.R. 5103 is the twenty-sixth piece of legislation sponsored by Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) that passed the U.S. House of Representatives during the 118th Congress. The legislation has received the support of 160 endorsing entities including 107 organizations, and fifty-two members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) is the sponsor of "The Bipartisan FISHES Act" Senate companion bill. “For years, fishery disaster determinations across our nation have been left pending due to bureaucratic inaction,” said Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL). “This includes the catastrophic devastation caused by Hurricane Ian in our Southwest Florida community. This is a national problem; this is wrong; this must change; and this is why I introduced ‘The FISHES Act’ alongside Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) to expedite fishery disaster relief to communities in need. Thank you to my colleagues in the United States Senate for advancing this critical legislation to the President’s desk. Government must put the American people first and I am proud to stand-up for coastal communities across our nation.” “Floridians know better than anyone that when disaster strikes, families and small businesses can’t be left wondering whether the federal government is going to show up," said Senator Rick Scott (R-FL). In addition, $1,469,469,742 in federal grants were secured for the community for investments in education, infrastructure, good-paying jobs, safer neighborhoods, and cleaner, cheaper energy. Castor credits her team, local partners and nonprofits in helping win such significant federal investments for the Tampa Bay area. “Collaboration and teamwork are key to making progress for Tampa Bay. My congressional constituent services team works tirelessly to cut through red tape on behalf of families, veterans, and businesses. In a year with unprecedented challenges due to the hurricanes, our neighbors needed our team to assist them more than ever. I am grateful for all that Steven Angotti, Tania Fernandez, Damaris Gonzalez and Sean Saintil – as well as the entire Castor Team – did this year. I could not be prouder of my dedicated casework team that went above and beyond to help Tampa Bay families rebuild and navigate FEMA and Small Business disaster assistance. Their expertise and compassion are critical to ensuring that families and small businesses can thrive, that our Veterans receive the benefits they have earned and that Social Security and Medicare benefits are delivered on time. “The growing Tampa Bay area continues to reap the benefits of federal investments, thanks to the historic Infrastructure law, Inflation Reduction Act and the work of Biden-Harris Administration – and we need it. A record 386 federal grants were awarded across the Tampa Bay area in 2024 including, but not limited to, critical investments for the Tampa International Airport and Port Tampa Bay, cost-saving electric school busses, job trainings and expanded health care services. His historic decision to pardon those with low-level marijuana offenses and grant more sentence reductions than any other president in recent history sends a powerful message that America must deliver on its promise of a fair and just society. “The stark reality is that the death penalty has often been unfairly given to marginalized communities, highlighting the systemic problems in our justice system. In Florida alone, 34 people have been cleared from death row since 1973. Of these individuals, more than half were people of color. These aren’t just numbers; they represent lives deeply devastated by a flawed system that can be prone to mistakes. “The risk of wrongful convictions due to incorrect eyewitness accounts, racial bias, and unreliable forensic evidence is too great. Each case represents a potential tragedy, often impacting the most vulnerable among us. “We cannot remain silent in the face of such a serious moral issue. No American should have their life taken from them due to errors in the justice system. We must end the federal death penalty and create a society that focuses on rehabilitation rather than retribution.” | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

Darren Soto (FL-09) and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25) led a letter to President Joe Biden and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, urging the Department to extend and redesignate Venezuela for Temporary Protected Status. Currently, the 2023 redesignation is set to expire on April 2, 2025, and the 2021 extension is set to expire on September 10, 2025. “Political instability, endemic corruption, and repression under Maduro’s authoritarian regime has led to massive food and medicine shortages, with millions living in poverty and suffering from food insecurity. Venezuela’s economy has contracted by more than 80% since 2014, which is more than twice the magnitude of the Great Depression in the United States,” wrote the Members. “Due to the ongoing crisis in Venezuela, Venezuelans have consistently been the leading nationality requesting asylum in the United States since 2016. As of June 2023, U.N. agencies believe that over 7.3 million Venezuelans have fled the country, many of whom have resettled in neighboring countries like Colombia and Brazil.” “The number of displaced individuals from Venezuela only continues to grow after the undemocratic and fraudulent elections held on July 28, 2024. The United States and many other countries have rightfully rejected Maduro’s false claims of victory, noting that these results were ‘deeply flawed, yielding an announced outcome that does not represent the will of the Venezuelan people,’ and recognized opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia as president-elect,” continued the Members. “The United States has imposed targeted sanctions in response to the Maduro regime’s brutal repression…” “Given Venezuela’s increased instability and lack of safety, and within all applicable rules and regulations, we strongly urge your full and fair consideration of an early extension and redesignation of Venezuela for TPS to ensure stability and certainty of the program. The Decentralizing and Re-organizing Agency Infrastructure Nationwide To Harness Efficient Services, Workforce Administration, and Management Practices (DRAIN THE SWAMP) Act would require nearly a third of workers to relocate outside the beltway. Upon introduction, Congressman Bean said, “The swamp is thick and deep here in Crazy Town, and I’m here to drain it. It is time to remind Washington that our duty is to serve the American people. I’m proud to join Senator Ernst to ensure the government works for the people, not the other way around.” Senator Ernst said, “My investigations have exposed how bureaucrats have been doing just about everything besides their job during the workday. Federal employees have shown they don’t want to work in Washington, and in the Christmas spirit, I am making their wish come true. Instead of keeping them bogged down in the swamp, I’m working to get bureaucrats beyond the D.C. beltway to remind public servants who they work for. In addition to improving government service for all Americans, we can give taxpayers an extra Christmas gift by selling off unused and expensive office buildings.” BACKGROUND The DRAIN THE SWAMP Act would authorize the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to relocate 30% of federal agency staff to places other than the metropolitan area surrounding Washington, D.C. The rest of the federal workers remaining around the capital would be required to work in person 100% of the time. Additionally, the OMB would further be directed to work to sell the unnecessary office space created by the relocations. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

Funding ensures that FEMA has the resources it needs to process applications for assistance through the January 07, 2025, deadline. “To help individuals rebuild and reopen, it includes $2.25 billion for low-interest Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loans for businesses, homeowners, renters and private non-profit organizations. I commend Speaker Mike Johnson's leadership in navigating tough negotiations to keep our government open and ensure President-elect Trump can hit the ground running come January 20th. I also applaud my fellow Floridian, Congressman Scott Franklin, a member of the Agriculture Subcommittee on Appropriations, for achieving what others have long struggled to do: securing vital support for Florida farmers. While I would have preferred committees to pass their own bills through the Chamber rather than tack it on to a vital appropriations bill, when considering my district, the State of Florida, and our national security overall, the benefits far outweigh the critiques. This bill provides disaster relief funding for Florida and other disaster-stricken states. Additionally, it includes specific language encouraging a block grant program for citrus under the Trump administration that will revitalize the state's already struggling citrus industry. Continuing resolutions are far from ideal, but this measure ensures President Trump has a say in shaping the final funding bills for fiscal year 2025. As we prepare for President Trump's swearing-in, we are laying the groundwork to advance his America First agenda–lowering costs, unleashing American energy independence and dominance, and, most importantly, securing our borders to protect Americans." | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

Wilson | W000808 | wilson.house.gov | wilson | https://wilson.house.gov/media/press-releases | scraper | Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson released the following statement on the passage of the Continuing Resolution to keep Government open, to which she voted 'yes': "Our most basic duty as Congress is to keep the government running because a shutdown is never worth the cost. Denying pay to our troops, TSA workers, and millions of Americans who depend on government services is inexcusable. Democrats have always stood ready to find common ground and work with our Republican colleagues to deliver for the American people. Today proves that commitment. This bill to keep the government open even includes over $10 billion in disaster aid for those impacted by the hurricanes this year in Florida. We also avoided some of the poison pills pushed by far-right extremists. These wins are thanks to House Democrats' efforts. "But let's be clear: we didn't have to pass this bill at the eleventh hour before government closes. We had a bipartisan deal to keep the government open. Then House Republicans, taking their marching orders from Elon Musk, threw it all away to push us to the brink of a shutdown. I'm deeply disappointed this bill stripped out critical measures like the Haitian Economic Lift Program and proposals to ease everyday costs for working families. Yet even after days of chaos, Republicans came back to Democrats to clean up their mess—because they learned the hard way that Elon Musk has no idea how to govern. "These last two days are just a preview of the disaster ahead if Republicans continue to put billionaires before the American people. The Republican Party isn't just ignoring the American people—they're selling them out to Elon Musk and his gang of billionaire cronies. Instead of serving the public, they're handing over the reins of power to President Elon Musk, a tech overlord who's accountable to no one but his own greed. Do you remember ever seeing his name on the ballot? Did you vote for him to be President? Castor. Tampa Bay neighbors want a sense of normalcy, especially during the holiday season. This turmoil created by House Republicans and billionaire Elon Musk is going to slow our recovery. It’s going to hit people in the pocketbooks, and it’s irresponsible.” A downloadable video file is available here. Hurricanes Helene and Milton wreaked havoc in the Tampa Bay area, causing extensive damage. With over 11,600 applications for Small Business Administration Disaster Loans and thousands of Floridians seeking FEMA emergency assistance to rebuild their homes, securing this funding is crucial for long-term recovery. Rutherford (FL-05) announced the winner of Florida’s Fifth Congressional District’s 2024 Congressional App Challenge. Eesh Majithia, a current senior at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, earned first place for his app, “Notecandy,” which provides a variety of notetaking services to users with various learning styles. Notecandy was inspired by Neil Fleming’s visual, auditory, reading and writing, and kinesthetic (VARK) model of learning preferences, which was introduced to Eesh by his health and wellness teacher. Notecandy was designed to accommodate each of these styles of learning for students as they take notes in class. Eesh was selected as the winner by a panel of IT specialists from the Northeast Florida community. “On behalf of Florida’s Fifth Congressional District, I am proud to host the annual Congressional App Challenge and encourage our students to pursue a future in STEM,” said Rutherford. “With his app, Eesh shows an impressive ability to combine creativity with the mechanics needed to create applications aimed at supporting others. I wish him well as he continues to exercise his talent and strive for excellence." The app will be featured on the Congressional App Challenge website and is eligible to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol, alongside other national winners. The Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide competition designed to encourage student participation, providing an opportunity to develop valuable technical skills in computer science and coding regardless of prior experience. Student participants compete against their peers to create an application or “app” for mobile, tablet, or computer devices. The 2025 Congressional App Challenge opens for student submissions on May 1, 2025. | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

The bill would impose civil penalties on CCP-affiliated shippers – including any vessel owned, operated, or leased by a PRC entity - that are involved in trafficking materials used in the production of fentanyl to the United States. This legislation is part of a package of three bipartisan bills originating from the Select Committee on Communist China’s Fentanyl Working Group to stop the CCP from fueling America’s opioid epidemic. “For far too long, the CCP has been targeting American civilians by intentionally fueling our country’s opioid epidemic to undermine our nation’s health,” said Congressman Dunn. “We must take swift action to protect the American public and hold the CCP accountable for their brazen and unacceptable practices. I am proud to lead this bipartisan response to CCP aggression and stop the flow of dangerous narcotics into American communities.” Background: Earlier this year, the Select Committee on Communist China released an exhaustive report implicating entities connected to the Communist Party in a scheme to export fentanyl precursors to American shores. This legislation aims to combat fentanyl trafficking by imposing civil penalties on CCP- shippers connected to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) that fail to implement ‘know your customer’ protocols and other safeguards against the production and export of fentanyl precursors. Specifically, this legislation would: Require PRC shippers involved in the fentanyl trade to meet USG-defined standards for declaring fentanyl precursors. Establish a civil penalty for PRC cargo vessels deemed non-compliant when attempting to enter U.S. ports. Require the President to send a report to Congress outlining the compliance status, fines levied, and revenues collected. The hearing comes as the USCG continues to delay the production of the icebreaker fleet. The first Polar Security Cutter was slated to be operational in 2024, however the delays now have the cutter being operational, at the earliest, in 2030 and with costs being significantly more than originally anticipated. Designs for the cutter have yet to be finalized since the start of the PSC program in 2018. Watch a clip from the hearing HERE. See below for Congressman Gimenez's opening statement as prepared for delivery: Today, we are reviewing the progress—or lack thereof—of the Coast Guard’s Polar Security Cutter program and discussing strategies to ensure the successful completion of this vital acquisition effort. This issue is of paramount importance—the United States must be able to operate effectively in the Arctic to safeguard our nation's security and strategic interests in this rapidly changing region. While the Arctic has long been a region of immense importance, it has recently become a key arena for geopolitical competition. As the ice retreats, new opportunities and challenges emerge such as rising shipping traffic, untapped natural resources, and shifting national security dynamics. Nations around the globe are positioning themselves to capitalize on these immense opportunities. Of most concern are adversarial nations to the United States. For example, the People's Republic of China, which continues to pursue its self-declared "near-Arctic" ambitions, is rapidly expanding its icebreaker fleet to bolster its influence in the region. Recent reports indicate that China currently operates four icebreakers, with a fifth, named Jidi, which translates to “Polar” in English, under construction and expect… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

This bill will require the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) to audit bulk data transferred to or from I&A to assess whether personnel’s access to and searches conducted are appropriately limited to protect American’s civil liberties, right to privacy, and civil rights. “Congress must conduct oversight and ensure government agencies are being transparent with the American people. My bill will ensure the handling of data and searches by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis are conducted properly to protect America’s rights and privacy,” said Rep. Laurel Lee. “I am glad to see this bill pass the House today and I urge the Senate to take this legislation up to ensure our government’s information systems and bulk data collection activities are properly administered.” Summary: This bill would amend the Homeland Security Act to direct the Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis (I&A), of DHS, to conduct an annual audit of the information systems and bulk data of I&A. The bill would also require the Under Secretary for I&A to submit a report to Congress that outlines the findings of every annual audit. | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

Webster. “By addressing the unchecked implementation of ‘midnight rules,’ Congress is ensuring that regulations reflect the voice of the American people, and not unelected bureaucrats.” Under current law, a Congressional joint resolution of disapproval can only include one regulation submitted for review during the final 60 legislative days of a President’s term. This bill would provide greater flexibility and power to Congress by allowing them to jointly disapprove of multiple regulations in a single joint resolution of disapproval. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

In the Senate, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida led the effort. This joint effort originally started in 2021 in the 117th Congress. "I'm thrilled to see years of advocacy for Haiti pay off with the inclusion of duty-free access for Haitian apparel in the final continuing resolution. This is a crucial step forward for Haiti, enhancing the successes of the original HELP Act. By extending these trade benefits until 2030, we are not only supporting a vital sector of Haiti's economy but also providing hope and stability to thousands of hardworking Haitians. This bipartisan effort underscores our commitment to fostering economic resilience in Haiti, reducing unemployment, and discouraging paths to violence," Congresswoman Frederica Wilson said. "I want to thank Senator Marco Rubio, Congressman Brad Wenstrup, and Congresswoman Maria Salazar for their leadership in advocating for this proposal. I am also grateful to Speaker Mike Johnson and Leader Hakeem Jeffries for including it in the continuing resolution. We cannot forget the people of Haiti. They are suffering, and today's announcement is a win for them." "I am thrilled to see the extension of the HOPE/HELP trade program with Haiti included in the government funding bill," said Rep. Importantly, the FY2025 NDAA includes a 14.5 percent pay raise for junior enlisted service members, a 4.5 percent raise for all other service members, and big wins for Florida’s military and America’s national security that Senator Scott fought to secure as a member of SASC this year. Senator Rick Scott said, “Each year, I have fought to include big wins for Florida and U.S. national security in the NDAA, and this year’s bill is a massive accomplishment that reflects the priorities of Florida families. As ranking member of the Subcommittee for Personnel, I am proud of the bipartisan work we accomplished in SASC to ensure our men and women in uniform are taken care of, and our military remains the most lethal force in the world. Our service members deserve to make a wage that reflects the sacrifice they make—and I am proud that we secured a much-needed 14.5 percent pay raise for junior enlisted service members and a 4.5 percent increase for other members in this year’s NDAA. Additionally, we know how important it is to our military families with children to have access to quality childcare—especially our dual-military families. Expanding childcare access for military families has been a priority for me in the NDAA for several years, and I am excited to share that this year’s NDAA includes $4.1 million for the design of a Child Development Center at Naval Air Station Whiting Field and $6.9 million for the design of a Child Development Center Naval Air Station Jacksonville to increase access to childcare for military families throughout North Florida. “Along with these personnel wins, we secured big wins for national security. Senator Rick Scott said, “I cosponsored and voted today to advance the Social Security Fairness Act because hardworking folks like police, firefighters and teachers who pay into Social Security ought to receive full Social Security benefits in retirement. It is shameful that public sector employees, like first responders, have been punished for their service for decades and denied the full benefits they deserve. While I’m glad to see this bill move forward today, the Social Security Trust Fund faces major issues and looming insolvency that must also be addressed. I look forward to working with President Trump to protect and preserve Social Security, and working with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy at the Department of Government Efficiency to identify $200 billion in government waste to pay for and responsibly implement this policy. Deficit spending is killing our country, fueling inflation and hurting hardworking families. We must end it while working to pass responsible policy like my Protect Our Seniors Act that protects and preserves critical programs like Social Security.” ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-03-30T11:08:25Z |

Kathy Castor Cheers New Consumer Savings Rule | 2024-12-17 | 2024 | 2024-12 | Democrat | House | FL | Kathy Castor | C001066 | castor.house.gov | castor | https://castor.house.gov/news/documentquery.aspx | scraper | WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (FL-14) applauded the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) new Junk Fees Rule, which eliminates hidden fees on live-event tickets and short-term lodging, saving American consumers significant time and money. The rule brings transparency to pricing by requiring businesses to disclose the full price upfront, making it easier for families to budget and compare options. “Families shouldn’t have to play a guessing game when planning a night out or a trip. Sneaky hidden fees are a burden. They drive up costs and leave families frustrated at checkout. This new rule ensures that the price you see for concert tickets and hotel stays is the price you pay—no hidden fees, no surprises,” said Rep. Castor. “The FTC junk fee rule mirrors legislation I led to reign in out-of-control Junk Fees and lower costs. It’s about fairness, transparency and saving hardworking families both time and money so they can focus on making memories together, not worrying about unexpected charges.” The FTC estimates that the Junk Fees Rule will save consumers up to $11 billion over the next decade by eliminating unnecessary fees and wasted time spent searching for accurate prices. The rule targets misleading “resort fees,” “service fees” and other hidden charges in the live-event ticketing and lodging industries, ensuring that pricing is transparent, honest and upfront. Castor introduced the bipartisan No Hidden Fees on Extra Expenses for Stays (No Hidden FEES) Act with Rep. Young Kim (R-CA) to improve cost transparency for stays in short-term lodgings, such as hotels, motels and inns. The No Hidden FEES Act of 2023 passed the U.S. House on June 11, 2024. | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

"Over the past two years, I have fought alongside Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) and Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) to ensure that disaster tax relief reaches our community. We relentlessly proposed bill after bill until the Senate took action and the President signed this critical legislation into law. I am proud to have played a role in delivering this much-needed disaster tax relief to Southwest Florida, the Sunshine State, and affected communities across our nation. And in just 4 months, the Congressman’s office has been able to return an additional million dollars to constituents while closing an additional 500 cases. "When we talk about returning money to our constituents, this is money that is rightfully owed to them, but because of government red tape, there are delays or errors in disbursements that keep much needed money out of folks' pockets,” said Congressman Maxwell Frost. “But that's where our constituent services team steps in to advocate for our people and ensure folks receive what they are owed from federal agencies like the IRS or Social Security. These returns can sometimes be upwards of tens of thousands of dollars, which can be life-changing for working people.” "No matter what the next Administration may do to limit government programs— my team and I will be hyper focused on fighting for the people of Central Florida and continuing to support our constituents. We're committed to showing folks that the government can work for people and deliver real results for them." María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) continues to build support for the Dignity Act (H.R. 3599), the only major bipartisan immigration bill in Congress. With conversations about Congress tackling immigration next year, many recognize the Dignity Act as the most consequential piece of immigration legislation that not only secures our southern border but addresses our major immigration challenges beyond the border. In October 2024, the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus in the House of Representatives announced its official endorsement of the Dignity Act (H.R. 3599). The Problem Solvers Caucus is a group of more than 60 Members of Congress who are committed to advancing common-sense solutions to key issues facing the United States. Problem Solvers Caucus endorsements are often a critical threshold to pass before advancing major bipartisan legislation. The bill was brought forward for Caucus endorsement by Representatives Salazar and Hillary Scholten (D-MI), an original co-lead of the bill. It is the first time the caucus has endorsed a major immigration policy. “The United States desperately needs an immigration solution, and the Dignity Act is the best and most viable bill to secure our border and solve our nation’s immigration problems,” said Rep. María Elvira Salazar. “I am proud that the bipartisan Dignity Act received the endorsement of the Problem Solvers Caucus – a critical group of lawmakers in Congress who are willing to advance solutions that prioritize national security, practical reforms, and economic growth.” “For far too long, our immigration system has been a glaring failure, and Americans are suffering as a result,” said Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair, Rep. | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

Cornyn. “By extending and modernizing this program, our bill would help put vicious criminals behind bars and safeguard our next generation, and I urge the House to pass it swiftly.” “We must save children who are victims of the most ongoing vile, stomach-churning crimes because child sexual abuse goes unstopped,” said Sen. Blumenthal. “Protecting such victims is urgent and imperative—and we have an obligation to provide tools and resources necessary to do it. The PROTECT Our Children Act reauthorizes and modernizes the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Programs, enabling law enforcement to combat the exploding, serious dangers of abhorrent abuse in an online society. This essential legislation will help safeguard our children and hold predators accountable.” “There is no frontier that poses a bigger threat to the next generation than technology and the internet,” said Sen. Hawley. “The PROTECT Our Children Act gives law enforcement the resources, assistance, and infrastructure they need to combat child sexual exploitation and internet crimes. I’m proud to support reauthorization of this crucial program.” “In almost every aspect of the real world, child safety is a top priority. That sense of urgency should extend to the virtual world too,” said Sen. This bill is also cosponsored by Senators Shelley Moore Capito, Mike Lee, James Lankford, Katie Britt, Steve Daines, Roger Marshall, Kevin Cramer, Cynthia Lummis and James Risch in the U.S. Senate and Congressman Jodey Arrington in the House of Representatives. The full text of the legislation can be found here. Senator Rick Scott said, “It’s time Washington focused on what the American people want: unleashing American energy, growing our economy and ending the woke agenda. As President Trump prepares to take office, we must do everything possible to undo Biden’s disastrous policies that have hurt American businesses and families. I’m proud to join my colleagues in leading this commonsense CRA to block the natural gas tax.” Senator John Hoeven said, “American households and businesses depend every day on access to affordable and reliable energy. The best way to bring down prices for U.S. consumers is to increase supply. That’s why we’re working to rescind policies like the Natural Gas Tax, among the many other costly and burdensome taxes and regulations imposed under the Biden administration. Doing so will help unleash our domestic energy production and make our nation energy dominant once again.” Congressman August Pfluger said, “President Biden’s promise to end fossil fuels hurt the hardworking energy producers of my district who have worked diligently to increase production while fueling our allies abroad. If implemented, the ill-conceived natural gas tax will handicap technological innovation, reduce supplies of affordable energy, and increase both costs and emissions. The Committee on Ways and Means is the oldest committee of the United States Congress and is the chief tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives. The Committee exercises jurisdiction over taxes, trade, health care, Social Security, and welfare. “It is a tremendous honor to serve on the Ways and Means Committee. With a $36 trillion debt, historically high inflation, and the largest pending tax increase in history, this is a critical time for our nation. I am eager to work with Chairman Smith and the Committee to advance a bold agenda that supports working families, lowers taxes, and accelerates our economy. Let’s go get’em,” said Congressman Bean. “I want to extend a warm welcome to Representative Aaron Bean to the Ways and Means Committee. The next two years are pivotal for America’s economy as we extend the Trump tax cuts and enact President Trump’s pro-worker, pro-growth agenda. Rep. Bean’s background as a successful Florida small business owner will help us craft the right policies that set up small businesses across the country to thrive. In the 119th Congress, Ways and Means Republicans will work to swiftly help families who have been hurt by the last four years of inflation and uncertainty,” said Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

Pulluru, a junior who attends The Out-of-Door Academy, designed a software application to help older adults over the age of 65 determine if there are falling risks in their living environment. Buchanan commended Pulluru for his app and his commitment to serving older Americans. “I am very impressed and heartened to see this young student using his abilities to help our aging population,” said Buchanan. “Falls are the leading cause of injury for adults ages 65 and older, with over 14 million older adults reporting a fall every year. With nearly two hundred thousand seniors in my district and millions throughout the state of Florida, this app has the potential to help lower these risks and keep people safe.” “STEM education gives students the tools they need to succeed and help the U.S. compete in an increasingly global 21st century economy,” Buchanan continued. “Children are 25 percent of the population, but 100 percent of the future, and the future is in good hands with students like Manav.” The winning entry, SafeHavenAI, uses AI and image recognition from uploaded photos, along with a sophisticated algorithm and questions approved by doctors, to screen for potential fall risks within a home. Pulluru was inspired to create this app after having a great-grandfather fall and break his hip, causing him to be bedridden. He is hoping to ensure others do not suffer or lose their lives from preventable falls. “After seeing how a fall changed the life of my own great-grandfather, I knew something had to be done,” said Pulluru. “With one in four older adults falling each year, my partner and I created SafeHavenAI to prevent these accidents. I hope that this app will be able to eliminate preventable falls from seniors, helping families like mine save money and ensuring their loved ones are safer in their living environment.” Pulluru designed the app in tandem w… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:07:19Z |

María Elvira Salazar’s (R-FL) Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act, into law. This comes shortly after the legislation passed overwhelminglyin the House of Representatives and Senate. “The Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act has been signed by the President of the United States!” said Rep. María Elvira Salazar. “By recognizing these diplomats for their heroism in World War II, the United States is not only remembering their bravery but is also sending the message to our Jewish community and future generations that we must always stand against oppression.” H.R. 537/S.91 grants the Congressional Gold Medal to 60 diplomats from around the world who, through various means, saved the lives of Jews fleeing Nazi persecution. In many cases, diplomats would issue passports and travel visas to Jewish families often at great risk to their own lives. These actions alone saved hundreds of thousands of Jewish lives. Since its introduction, the bill has gained the support of nearly 300 legislators in the House of Representatives and over 70 Senators. It passed with overwhelming majorities in both Houses of Congress and has now become law. In the op-ed, Senator Rick Scott wrote, “Last month, voters delivered a resounding endorsement of the American dream — the idea that you can become anything you want as long as you are willing to work for it. By electing Donald Trump and Republican majorities in both chambers of Congress, our voters rejected four years of failed policies that destroyed full-time jobs, optimism, and opportunity from coast to coast. The country wants the return of more good-paying jobs, and Republicans must reduce the size of government, cut taxes, eliminate burdensome regulations, and reduce permitting times to fuel private-sector job growth and get more people back in the workforce. ... “Unfortunately, instead of focusing on private-sector job creation, President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and the Democrats in Congress have leaned too heavily on our country’s welfare system, breaking it beyond recognition. ... “Under the cover of the pandemic, the Biden-Harris administration massively ramped up federal welfare payments to the point that people can make more from government checks than a company paycheck. ... “The most recent data show that nearly 25 million able-bodied adults receive taxpayer health benefits without working, and more than 50 million people between the ages of 16 and 64 are not in the workforce. Meanwhile, America’s employers report having more than 7 million open jobs, many of which could be easily filled by able-bodied adults who are on welfare. ... “Real and lasting reform that benefits America and gets our nation back to work will only come from Congress working hand-in-glove with Trump on these issues. The No Congressionally Obligated Recurring Revenue Used As Pensions to Incarcerated Officials Now (No CORRUPTION) Act, which Senators Scott and Rosen introduced, and the Senate passed last year, will prevent Members of Congress from collecting taxpayer-funded pensions if they are convicted of a felony related to public corruption, even if they continue to drag out the appeals process. Current law requires former members of Congress convicted of a felony to forfeit their pensions only after exhausting their appeals, which allows convicted former members to drag the appeals process on for years while continuing to collect their taxpayer-funded pensions. The No CORRUPTION Act amends the law to close that loophole so former members of Congress lose their pensions immediately following a conviction of certain felonies related to their official duties. Senator Rick Scott said, “If you are a Member of Congress and convicted of a crime involving public corruption you should lose all pension benefits provided to you by taxpayers and hardworking families—period. Making Washington work for American families requires real reforms that end the current dysfunction. Millions of Americans across the Southeastern United States have wrongly been left-behind due to the overwhelming red-tape of FEMA bureaucracy. As a result, this initiative requests that FEMA develops a straightforward roadmap that will help explain what resources are available to hurricane victims and how such resources can be obtained. This includes how much and what type of aid hurricane victims can expect to receive, a timeline for receipt of aid, information on all available assistance, and what type of decisions one will be expected to make in the weeks, months, and years ahead. The initiative is co-led by Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and has also received the support of Representatives Gary Palmer (R-AL), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Scott Desjarlais M.D. (R-TN), Richard McCormick M.D. (R-GA), Michael Guest (R-MS), Dan Bishop (R-NC), and Greg Murphy M.D. (R-NC). The bill was introduced by House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere Chairwoman María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and Ranking Member Joaquin Castro (D-TX). Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Jim Risch (R-ID) introduced companion legislation in the Senate. The DISPOSE Act creates fentanyl and precursor chemical destruction facilities in three critical drug trafficking choke points: Mexico, Colombia, and Peru. The bill keeps Americans safe by fighting illicit drugs where they are sourced, cutting off the supply of chemicals and drugs before they reach American shores. “The fentanyl crisis is destroying American communities, and Miami is no stranger to the dangers these drugs pose,” said Chairwoman Salazar. “Thank you to House Republican Leadership for prioritizing my DISPOSE Act in the National Defense Authorization Act. This bill will save American lives and rob cartels and criminals of a major source of income. “The deadly fentanyl trade is an international crisis that demands full attention from Congress,” said Congressman Joaquin Castro, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere. “Last year, more than 500 people in the San Antonio area died from fentanyl that should never have reached Texas. The DISPOSE Act takes common-sense steps to help America’s partners seize and destroy fentanyl precursors and save lives. I’m proud to partner with Chairwoman Salazar, Senator Grassley, and Senator Shaheen on this important step forward and I look forward to seeing President Biden sign the DISPOSE Act into law." “We must DISPOSE of fentanyl and the devastation it is unleashing all across our country,” said Congressman Lawler. “The DISPOSE Act is an importa… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-07T22:13:55Z |

This critical new law delivers long-overdue tax relief for Americans impacted by natural disasters. “This is a victory for every American who has faced the devastating toll of a natural disaster,” said Rep. Steube. “From Florida to California, disasters don’t discriminate by state or party. This bipartisan legislation is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together to prioritize the needs of the American people. After two years of fighting for this relief, this law will help families rebuild their lives and recover with fewer financial barriers.” The Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act allows Americans to claim disaster-related losses without having to itemize deductions and eliminates the burdensome 10% Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) threshold for claiming those losses. It also ensures that settlements for disaster victims are tax-free and provides relief for recent hurricanes, including Ian, Nicole, Idalia, Helene, Debby, and Milton, as well as disasters declared up to 60 days after the law’s enactment. In addition, the law includes tax relief for wildfire victims in the West and for families impacted by the East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment. “The devastation caused by disasters doesn’t stop at state borders or political lines—it affects every Floridian and every American. This bipartisan effort delivers relief to communities across the nation, whether they’re recovering from a hurricane, wildfire, or another tragedy,” Steube continued. “For Florida, where we’ve faced the brunt of multiple hurricanes in recent years, this law means real help for families and businesses working to rebuild. Senator Rick Scott said, “After years of fighting, I am incredibly proud to see the passage of meaningful tax relief for families who faced devastation and loss from Hurricanes Ian, Idalia, Helene, Milton and other disasters in recent years. For too long, families have been left waiting. My Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act becoming law will finally start getting families in Florida, Puerto Rico and folks across the nation, the tax relief they need and deserve after suffering losses from these devastating storms. As Floridians are struggling to make ends meet, reports from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the federal government’s key inflation indicators, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI), rose even more in November putting strain on the budgets of American families and small businesses. Since President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office, CPI inflation is up 20.6%, while PPI inflation has risen 20.8%. Earlier this week, following the PPI report being released, Senator Scott released the following statement. Senator Rick Scott said, “Bidenomics has been a complete failure for the American people these past four years. Record inflation has forced families to cut back spending, seniors to come out of retirement and small businesses to shut down. Biden-Harris price hikes have plagued Americans' wallets and savings accounts, and that has all played a role in The American Dream being erased during the failed Biden administration. Under Biden, the hopes for a brighter future dwindled, but with President Trump back in office, and Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), there is renewed hope for a government that works for the American people instead of sticking them with the cost of reckless spending and massive bureaucracy. That’s why I am a founding member of the Senate DOGE Caucus and continue to fight like hell every day to bring down prices and end all the reckless spending coming out of Washington. The American people are more ready than ever for President Trump to get to work, bring prices down and end the inflation nightmare the Biden-Harris administration has caused.” Since being elected to the U.S. Senate, Senator Scott has repeatedly urged action to address America’s debt crisis and the harmful effects of inflation. Upon passage, Congressman Bean said: “I was proud to support this year’s NDAA which refocuses the military on its core mission of defending our nation, supports operations along our southern border, and puts an end to divisive ideological policies that have undermined recruitment, retention, and the morale of our military. This legislation also provides a much-needed 14.5% pay raise for junior enlisted service members and a 4.5% pay raise for all other service members. Additional quality-of-life provisions in the bill include allowing service members to seek some specialty health care without Tricare referrals, requiring pay for on-base childcare workers to be competitive with the private sector, and making it easier for military spouses to transfer professional licenses between states. The bill requires all DoD components to undertake an annual independent audit and saves taxpayers $31 billion by cutting inefficient programs, obsolete weapons systems, and unnecessary Pentagon bureaucracy. I will always defend our national interests because the American people deserve a military that doesn’t cater to any credo other than America First.” BACKGROUND: The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is legislation that Congress passes each year to make changes to the policies and organization of United States defense agencies and provide guidance on how military funding may be spent. Though funding for the U.S. military must be approved through appropriation bills, Congress uses the NDAA to establish defense priorities, make organizational changes to military agencies, and guide the Department of Defense. This year’s NDAA will: Provide junior enlisted servicemembers with a 14.5% pay raise. "The men and women who serve our U.S. military to defend our freedom and democracy every day deserve nothing less than the best. This legislation focuses on enhancing our servicemembers' quality of life by increasing compensation for junior enlisted personnel, improving housing conditions, ensuring access to medical care and childcare, supporting military spouses, building new schools for servicemembers' children, and providing enhanced career transition assistance, among other critical initiatives. This designation builds on prior federal studies and longstanding local efforts to preserve the river’s unique ecological, recreational, and cultural value. “Designating the Myakka River as a national scenic river is a step toward ensuring it remains a protected natural treasure,” said Congressman Steube. “This legislation recognizes the critical role of local communities and governments in preserving this important resource while safeguarding public access and voluntary environmental stewardship. I’ll always advocate for clean water and a healthy environment for Florida’s Suncoast.” The bill would formally add approximately 34 miles of the Myakka River in Sarasota County to the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. The designation would allow for collaborative management between the Secretary of the Interior and the Myakka River Management Coordinating Council, ensuring the river’s free-flowing condition is preserved without altering existing local and state land use authority. Key provisions of the bill include: Designating specified segments of the Myakka River as scenic, wild, or recreational based on their natural characteristics. Prohibiting the use of condemnation to acquire land along the river, ensuring any land acquisition is voluntary or through donation. Supporting continued recreational and conservation activities while maintaining local control. The legislation is cosponsored by Congressman Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.). “Protecting Florida’s pristine waterways is one of my top priorities in Congress,” said Buchanan. “Designating the Myakka River as ‘scenic’ will ensure that it is kept in its current, pristine condition for generations. Every day, federal facilities face a wide range of threats, including active shooters, cyber-attacks, hostile surveillance, improvised explosive devices, and more. Federal agencies must do everything necessary to serve the American people while keeping public servants safe. I applaud our colleagues in the House for passing this commonsense legislation after it passed in the Senate and look forward to President Biden signing it into law.” Senator Gary Peters said, “Millions of dedicated federal employees and the Americans who are accessing critical government services visit federal buildings across the nation every day – and they deserve to feel safe and secure in those spaces. Citizens throughout the world look forward to the game’s telecast, which engages the interest of millions of Americans, including the hundreds of thousands of current and former military personnel who watch it. The game is always played in a sold out NFL venue and brings patriotism and pageantry to the fans in the stadium and to the people of the host city. To reflect the immeasurable esteem that this event garnered for decades, it has been played for many years on a Saturday reserved specifically for the Army vs. Navy Game without any competing college football events… “We write out of concern that the additional games detract from the focus on our Armed Forces that the nationally televised Army vs. Navy Game provided with a unique day set aside for it. Young Americans often cite the pregame events as igniting their interest in serving in uniform. The airtime of those pregame events are now in jeopardy with a preceding televised college football game. We feel there is no other block of time in television programming that rekindles our nation's patriotism, unity, and confidence in the military and promotes a greater sense of appreciation than this incredible game da… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-03-30T11:08:25Z |

November’s PPI data shows that there has been a significant rise in inflation during the Biden-Harris administration. Over the year, PPI has increased 3.0% and since President Biden and Vice President Harris took office, PPI inflation is up 20.8% percent. The American people are more ready than ever for President Trump to get to work, bring prices down and end the inflation nightmare the Biden-Harris administration has caused.” According to today’s PPI release, price increases over the year included: Fruit: +11% Vegetables: +34.3% Eggs: +80.2% Beef: +6.7% Pork: +13.7% Coffee: +12.9% Since being elected to the U.S. Senate, Senator Scott has repeatedly urged action to address America’s debt crisis and the harmful effects of inflation… | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-03-30T11:08:25Z |

WRDA 2024 authorizes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) to carry out critical water resources development projects and studies. Regular consideration of locally driven, rigorously studied, and nationally significant water resources infrastructure is key to preserving our nation’s economy, strengthening U.S. and international commerce, protecting our communities and businesses during natural disasters, and maintaining our quality of life. “From JAXPORT to Fernandina Beach, I was proud to play a key role in crafting WRDA and be a voice for Northeast Floridians. This bill is a massive victory for the Fourth District, as it enhances environmental restoration efforts at Fort George and supports a new dry dock in Jacksonville. I’m particularly grateful to secure modifications to shoreline easements that are delaying critically important hurricane risk reduction projects. These wins will ensure our state can continue to address the unique needs of our communities,” said Congressman Bean. WRDA 2024 Northeast Florida priorities championed by Congressman Bean include: Authorization of a new feasibility study for the Fort George Inlet erosion control project in Jacksonville to reduce or eliminate the accelerating loss of Little Talbot Island State Park lands, to stabilize the inlet to prevent further erosion, and to determine beneficial use of dredged beach compatible sand. The construction of a long-stalled new dry dock facility at the Jacksonville Harbor that would provide maintenance and other services to military, recreational, and other vessels. Prohibiting the USACE from imposing unfair, burdensome, and unforeseen perpetual easement requirements on sponsors of hurricane risk reduction projects. The requirements apply to adults receiving Medicaid benefits who are not in school and have no dependents. This bill would help lift millions off government dependence, save taxpayer dollars, and put America on the path of fiscal responsibility. “Work is an honorable enterprise, and it promotes a dignified pathway out of poverty. Yet today, there are more than 1.5 million able-bodied adults on Medicaid who are not working. We can’t keep asking hardworking Americans to pay for services for their neighbors who refuse to work,” said Congressman Bean. “Imposing work requirements on able-bodied adults without a dependent is not only common sense, but it would allow working Americans to keep more of their hard-earned money.” “These requirements are reasonable and flexible, allowing beneficiaries to meet eligibility in a variety of ways. By encouraging work, community service, or skill development, we can empower individuals to break free from the cycle of dependency and take control of their futures,” said Congresswoman Hageman. BACKGROUND As the number of people on Medicaid has increased to more than 93 million, the labor force participation rate has decreased to 62.5%. Specifically, this legislation would require able-bodied adults without dependents, to work, volunteer, enroll in a school or a job training program for 80 hours a month to be eligible for Medicaid benefits. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated similar able-bodied work requirements for Medicaid benefits would save taxpayers $109 billion over the next decade. Kathy Castor (D-FL) and Rob Wittman (R-VA), co-chairs of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) Critical Minerals Working Group, led the introduction of new bipartisan legislation that helps address the United States’ dependence on the CCP for critical minerals and jumpstart American industry and workforce alongside our allies and partners. Spearheaded by Rep. Castor and Rep. Wittman, the working group spent months evaluating the United States’ deep reliance on the CCP for critical minerals and developing solutions. Now, members are introducing three new bipartisan bills and a bipartisan working group policy report, Creating Resilient Critical Mineral Supply Chains. Members of the Critical Mineral Policy Working Group are: Rep. Castor, Rep. Wittman, Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO), Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL), Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY), and Rep. Ben Cline (R-VA). The bills developed by the working group are the Earth Sciences and Cooperation Enhancement Act of 2024, an amendment to the Export Reform Act of 2018, and the Critical Minerals Workforce Enhancement Act. Summaries of the bills and the report can be found below. “America’s dependence on adversarial nations for critical minerals poses a significant threat to our national security and our clean energy future,” said Rep. Castor. “This legislative package promotes sustainable development and strengthens our domestic supply chains through international partnerships, export controls and workforce development. I’m grateful to Rep. Wittman and our working group colleagues for the meaningful, bipartisan work that created this package. By working together, we can enhance our energy security and create new opportunities for American workers and businesses.” “The Chinese Communist Party’s dominance of global critical minerals supply chains poses a dire economic threat to U.S. national security,” said Rep. As Co-Chair of the Special Forces Caucus, I am also gratified that Congress will invest in Special Operations Forces and SOCOM to support service members and their families to retain top talent. “We owe it to our service members to address the cost of living. That’s why I fought to secure a 14.5 percent pay raise for junior enlisted service members and a 4.5 percent pay raise for all other service members. Additionally, the NDAA increases the Basic Needs Allowance, helping military families better manage grocery and housing costs. “Child care is another top priority for military families. The NDAA fully funds child care fee assistance initiatives to eliminate waitlists for eligible families. It also makes needed investments to recruit, train and retain child care personnel to expand the DoD child care workforce. “Safe, clean housing is essential for service members and their families at MacDill and around the world. The NDAA includes significant investments to accelerate the replacement of mold-laden housing and barracks. “I am deeply disappointed in Speaker Johnson’s choice to hijack meaningful bipartisan work to inject a highly partisan provision targeting LGBTQ+ children. November’s CPI data shows that there has been a significant rise in inflation during the Biden-Harris administration, with CPI increasing 2.7% percent over the year in November 2024—higher than last month. Since the Biden-Harris administration took office, inflation is up 20.6%. Senator Rick Scott said, “The Biden-Harris administration will be remembered forever by families for its 20% inflation and economic failures that placed historic financial burdens on folks in every state. Whether it’s at the gas pump, grocery store, or paying rent, inflation continues to climb and so do prices as Biden takes advantage of Washington’s broken status quo with trillions in reckless spending. It’s time for a total fiscal turnaround on the national level to get our economy back on track, just like we did in Florida. With Trump back in office, and Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy heading the Department of Government Efficiency, we can get to work ending the inflation nightmare plaguing the American people by reining in big government, cutting wasteful spending, paying down the $36 trillion debt crisis and growing our economy. Senator Rick Scott said, “The federal government must do everything necessary to serve the American people while keeping public servants and the American people safe from espionage and terrorist attacks. One way to do that is making sure that federal facilities—that contain sensitive information—are kept safe from foreign entities looking to harm Americans and our way of life. I applaud the Senate for its passage of the Secure Adjacent Federal Property Act and urge our colleagues in the House to quickly take up and pass this important legislation that will bolster our national security." Senator Gary Peters said, "Federal agencies often store sensitive materials in office buildings. By ensuring the government is vigilant about security threats to these physical spaces, we can strengthen national security and prevent foreign adversaries and other malicious actors from stealing critical information.” MORE… The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has repeatedly raised concerns that federal agencies are vulnerable to espionage and other intrusions because individuals could exploit security loopholes to gain unauthorized access to spaces used for classified operations or to store sensitive data. The senators’ legislation would ensure there is government-wide guidance for agencies to ensure spaces located near high-security leased federal properties do not pose a threat to the safety and security of sensitive materials. The Secure Adjacent Federal Property Act would require the General Services Administration (GSA) to coordinate an interagency … | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-03-30T11:08:25Z |

The Access to AEDs Act, introduced by Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick in March 2023, would direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to award grants to elementary and secondary schools partnered with nonprofit healthcare organizations to develop and implement a comprehensive program to promote defibrillation access. These grants can be used to purchase new CPR and AED equipment and provide training to students, staff, and volunteers. “As a mom and Member of Congress, I’m on a mission to expand life-saving healthcare tools to children nationwide by equipping schools with AEDs and training for cardiac emergencies,” said Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick. “By increasing access to these vital tools, we can protect our schoolchildren when disaster strikes. I am proud to help advance the HEARTS Act of 2024, which aims to prevent tragedies like those we witnessed with NFL player Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills. The HEARTS Act ensures families can feel confident about their children's safety at school. It includes my Access to AEDs Act, which increases survival rates from sudden cardiac arrests, allowing kids to return home safely after emergencies. I look forward to President Biden signing this critical piece of legislation into law,” she concluded. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening emergency caused by a malfunction in the heart’s electrical system or structure, caused by an abnormality from birth or one that develops over time. Annually, nearly 600,000 Americans suffer from SCA. More than 7,000 youth under the age of 18 suffer from SCA annually in the United States, with student-athletes being more than 3.5 times as likely to experience SCA as non-athletes. "The Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2023" will provide much-needed disaster tax relief to residents of Southwest Florida. Specifically the legislation will cover victims of 300+ federally-designated disasters including Hurricanes Ian, Milton, Helene, Idalia, Debby, Nicole, and Fiona; the Maui Fires; recent California wildfires; and the East Palestine Train Derailment. In his letter to the USDA, Senator Scott expresses concerns over the importation of garlic from Communist China, as well as the lack of proper oversight from the agency inspectors of all consumables coming from Communist China which leaves American families vulnerable to low-quality food products. In his letter to USTR, Senator Scott is requesting the initiation of a Section 301 investigation into garlic grown in Communist China to determine if the country’s trade practices are unfair or harmful to U.S. commerce. The letter highlights China’s unethical labor and trade practices through their use of forced labor and evading tariffs. Finally, in his letter to ILAB, Senator Scott is requesting the bureau to include garlic from Communist China in its next investigation when publishing its List of Goods Produced by Child Labor or Forced Labor, which is updated biennially. This landmark legislation provides critical financial assistance to local governments and electric cooperatives by reimbursing interest payments on loans used for disaster recovery activities under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. “Communities impacted by disasters are often left with staggering financial burdens while waiting for federal reimbursements,” said Congressman Dunn. “This bill ensures that local governments and electric cooperatives are reimbursed for the interest on loans they had to take out to recover quickly. By lifting this financial strain, we are empowering communities to focus on what truly matters—rebuilding and recovery.” “This legislation is one of the most significant accomplishments of this Congress, and I am grateful to my colleagues for their support,” added Dunn. “I now urge the Senate to pass this critical bill swiftly.” The FEMA Loan Interest Payment Relief Act amends the Stafford Act to allow for reimbursement of qualifying interest on loans used to fund disaster recovery efforts. The bill applies retroactively to loans taken within seven years prior to enactment, addressing ongoing challenges for communities still recovering from past disasters. The House’s passage of H.R. 2672 marks a major milestone in Congressman Dunn’s legislative efforts this term. Introduced with strong bipartisan support, the bill highlights the importance of providing timely and effective disaster recovery resources to impacted communities. | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-07T22:13:55Z |
