Full transcript of the video: Jenny and I want to wish all Hoosiers a very merry Christmas and happy Holidays. From Gary to Evansville, Terre Haute to Richmond, Hoosiers have a whole lot to celebrate this year. To name a few, we designated our very first National Park; we made significant gains in curbing the opioid epidemic, we improved our infrastructure; and continued to build on pro-growth economic policies that have allowed our farming and manufacturing industries to flourish. With record low unemployment rates families are doing well. We have higher wages. We've increased job growth. These republican-led policies are working for the American people and working for Hoosiers. With so much success in 2019, I look forward to continue to build on these accomplishments and create new opportunities for Hoosiers as we enter 2020. Again, warm wishes to all Hoosiers this Holiday season and god bless. Print Email Tweet Previous Article | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Senator Braun is soliciting comments from all interested parties on how to improve the legislation and provide a more promising pathway for meaningful treatments to reach Americans struggling with deadly diseases. Patients with fatal diseases are fighting for their lives every day while real, meaningful, life-extending treatments sit on the shelf just beyond their reach, said Senator Braun."For those who are so courageously battling these terrible diseases, the least we can do is not stand in their way. Please submit comments or questions toConditionalApproval@Braun.Senate.govfor consideration. It is my hope that the harsh realities associated with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Duchenne syndrome, and other devastating diseasesand the limitations associated with clinical researchwill encourage policymakers to do everything in their power to provide faster access to meaningful treatments. "While the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA)working with disease communities across the countryhas been steadfast in its quest to provide more access to meaningful treatments to patients suffering from life-threatening, serious, and chronic diseasesmost patients with these diseases, and their families, are fed up with the lack of available treatment options. The final package included Pence's OORAH Act, legislation to help Gold Star Families get a step closer to justice following the 1983 Marine Barracks terrorist attack. Pence released the following statement: Today is a victory for our brave armed forces. I am proud and honored the OORAH Act was included in the NDAA, so we can help Gold Star Families dear to my heart achieve a bit of the justice they truly deserve, said Congressman Pence. With this signature legislation signed into law, our men and women in uniform are more supported than ever. I applaud President Trump's support of our military and his work to fight for the NDAA. Pence, a United States Marine Corps and Beirut Veteran, introduced the Our Obligation to Recognize American Heroes (OORAH) Act of 2019,H.R. 2790, in May. The OORAH Act allows the Gold Star Families of that attack to access $1.68 billion in frozen Iranian funds. Pence's bill passed the House with bipartisan support as an amendment to H.R. 3494 in July, was included in the NDAA Conference Report, and passed both Chambers with bipartisan support before heading to President Trump's desk. A summary of the conference report, signed into law by President Trump, is available here. ### Congressman Greg Pence represents Indiana's 6thDistrict. His advocacy in Washington included promoting trade, supporting relief from severe weather, and fighting for the Indiana aquaculture industry. It was a difficult year in the fields, and I worked hand in hand with farmers to get needed clarity from the federal government. Hoosier farmers need access to open markets, senseless barriers removed, and flexibility to adopt conservation and environmental practices suited to their individual needs, Senator Young said. I thank the many families and businesses that opened their doors for me this year. I'm entering 2020 with a renewed sense of optimism for our ag community. The Indiana Farm Bureau, Indiana Corn Growers Association, and Indiana Soybean Alliance partnered with local farmers to host Senator Young all across Indiana. He started spring visits at Tuttle Orchards and AquaBounty in Albany where he learned about regulatory challenges affecting their production. As late spring turned to summer, Senator Young heard from corn and soybean farmers about the wet spring's impact on planting at roundtables in Indianapolis and Romney. He then stopped by the Indiana State Fair's kickoff Pork Breakfast before visiting the sixth-generation Obert Legacy Dairy Farm in Fort Branch. In late summer and fall, Senator Young was hosted in Columbus with members of the Bartholomew County REMC before heading to the Northeast Indiana and visiting with Roemke Farms to learn about their generational work on soil health. In total, Senator Young visited dozens of farms and agribusinesses making contact with hundreds of constituents. In 2019, Senator Young's agriculture work included: President Trump signing his bill, the National FFA Organization's Federal Charter Amendments Act, into law. Because our organ donation system is so complex, most people don't know how it works, or if patients are being protected. This is why we are taking a look behind the curtain of a system that so many lives depend on. My friend, Marine Dave Gunny' McFarland from Jeffersonville, Indiana, died because his heart transplant never came. That is unacceptable. I won't stop working on this issue until we increase the availability of organs for patients in need, and eliminate the inefficiencies occurring in our organ donation system, said Senator Young. President Trump's historic executive order will transform the nation's organ procurement and transplant system. I'm confident that the proposed rule being developed by Secretary Azar as the result of President Trump's directive will save thousands of American lives. But there's also no question that more can be done right now to improve a system that is mired by inefficiency, waste and a serious lack of accountability, said Senator Grassley. The senators are seeking information about the extent of HHS OIG oversight of OPOs and other information regarding previous relevant investigations. The letter from Young and Grassley can be foundhere. Young, Grassley and a bipartisan group of senatorswroteto HHS earlier this year demanding answers to a recent change in the national liver distribution policy made by the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN). Under the new policy, transplant hospitals in areas with rural and low-income populations could see patients waiting longer for a liver match and losing livers donated in their state. … | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Banks Celebrates USMCA Passage f t # e Washington, December 19, 2019 WASHINGTON After the House's bipartisan passage of President Trump's signature trade deal, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, Rep. Banks released the following statement: As the son of a factory worker who grew up in a home where NAFTA was a four letter word,' it is hard not to see today's House passage of USMA as not just a big win for American workers but also the biggest promise delivered yet by President Donald Tr This trade deal will be a boon to northeast Indiana. Our farmers need it. Our manufacturers need it. Mexico and Canada are Indiana's two top trading partners, accounting for 47% of our exports and generating $18 billion in revenue for Hoosiers. Experts project this trade deal will generate 176,000 jobs and inject $68 billion into the gross national domestic product. Furthermore, the USMCA will give American businesses and farmers much-needed stability and empower the president to continue negotiating with China from a position of power. China's taken advantage of hardworking Americans for far too long, and we're finally doing something about it. ### f t # e | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

In addition, this is a great day for all U.S. consumers and workers. The North American Free Trade Agreement(NAFTA) was grossly outdated and failed to put America in a position to succeed. It is past overdue that America modernizes its trade agreement with our neighboring allies so that it finally puts hard-working Americans first. With the passage of the USMCA, Hoosier farmers will have greater market access, manufacturers will have stronger market certainty and incentives to manufacture more goods in Indiana, and Main Street will have less regulatory burden, making it easier for small businesses to participate in cross-border trade. "I am thankful for President Trump's relentless determination and courage to secure this rebalanced and modernized trade agreement with Canada and Mexico, which supports Hoosier workers and promotes economic growth in Southwest and West Central Indiana. It is disappointing Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats delayed this successful trade agreement for over a year, as they continued to put politics over working for the American people. After over a year of demanding a floor vote, I am thankful to finally be able to vote in support of President Trump's huge victory for the American economy and workforce." Andr Carson Used Legos to Explain Trump's Impeachment | 2019-12-19 | 2019 | 2019-12 | Democrat | House | IN | André Carson | C001072 | carson.house.gov | legacy | If you've spent any time on Rep.Andr Carson's Twitter feed over the past two days, you probably noticed multiple pictures of a Lego figurine that bears a striking resemblance to President Donald Trump. That's because Carson, in an attempt to demonstrate the charges against the president, used Legos to give detailed breakdowns of both articles of impeachment by having the toys act out what Trump is accused of doing. The U.S. House of Representatives voted mostly along party lines Wednesday to impeach President Donald Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. "As the House prepares to vote on Articles of #Impeachment, here's a reminder of just how simple the story is, and why we must act to protect the Constitution," Carson wrote on the first of two Twitter threads detailing the articles. When asked by USA Today politics reporter Nicholas Wu how the idea came about, Carson said he had the help of a staffer who was part of a Lego fan club. Together, they wanted to create something that was easy to digest for citizens following the story. You want to create a framework that is easy for people to understand, Carson said. What better way than edutainment? Each Twitter thread is seven parts and includes everything from Lego versions of Trump's alleged co-conspirators, to big stacks of Lego money passing hands. Comic book style text bubbles help explain the action, and it ends with a re-creation of the impeachment vote with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at the podium. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

The President of the United States takes an oath of office to uphold the Constitution and the laws of this nation. He takes an oath to work as a representative of the people he serves, and a stalwart defender of our nation's interests abroad. But instead, President Trump abandoned his oath to America in favor of his own personal and political interests. In our country, no one is above the law, not even the president. When my colleagues and I took our Congressional oath of office, we swore to protect the rule of law, and our Constitution. We did that work today, and throughout this impeachment inquiry. The resounding vote in favor of both Articles of Impeachment is a reflection of that thorough, fair, and eye-opening investigation. House Democrats have been holding Americanfarmers and manufacturers hostagefor over a yearby blocking passage of the USMCA to deny the president, and American working families, a victory. The USMCA will bring billions to our nation and tens of thousands of new jobs for Americans. This is a huge win for American workers, farmers and manufacturers, and it's about time Congress got to the People's work. Brooks (R-IN05) released the following statement after the House passage of U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA): I am proud to vote forUSMCAbecause itis avictory for Hoosier workers, farmers, small businesses and manufacturers. As I travel my district and meet with Hoosiers, the most regular request I hear is to finally pass USMCA. Indianais the 8th largest agricultural exporter in the nation. Hoosier farmers have overwhelmingly shared with me how crucial international trade is for their businesses. USMCA guarantees economic certainty and opens new markets so Hoosier farmers can expand agricultural exports. American farmers will be better positioned to feedAmerican families and the world with this 21st century trade deal. Additionally,Indiana has over 500,000 small businesses thatemploy 45percentof Hoosiers, which foster local economies and support our communities. USMCA is the first trade agreement supporting these small businesses and allows each business to better compete in the global market. It eliminates a local presence requirement for cross-border service providers, which means small businesses will no longer have to open a foreign office to do business in these countries. Indiana is an automotive manufacturing state and 76,000jobs are expected to be added to the United States automotive sector because of USMCA. This bipartisan trade agreement will help Hoosier manufacturers streamline custom procedures, reduce inefficiencies and allow American products to hit the market faster. Today's vote is a major victory for Hoosier business. I rise today to oppose the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Throughout my entire career, I have heard the promises of free trade agreements, yet have seen the subsequent challenges faced by steelworkers and the American manufacturing industry. Specifically, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was rationalized on the promise of creating good-paying American jobs. Instead, this agreement contributed to the loss of over 700,000 American jobs through outsourcing and suppressed American wages. NAFTA has also led to the degradation of our environment through the lack of strong environmental protections and the consequent increase of greenhouse gas emissions in North America. While I recognize that the USMCA appears to be an improvement over NAFTA, I remain deeply skeptical that it does enough. For example, the USMCA includes a provision for enforcing labor standards. However, there is a lack of clarity on timelines for certain steps throughout the investigation process, which could delay enforcing penalties on violators of the agreement. I also remain leery that our trading partners have not demonstrated the commitment, fortitude, or track record to faithfully execute the labor protections detailed in this agreement. Additionally, the USMCA includes a provision to require 40 to 45 percent of the vehicles madein the United States, Mexico, and Canada to be made by workers who earn on average at least$16 per hour. However, the calculation requirements for the average wage allows for the inclusion of wages related to research, development, and information technology employees, which could cause the continued suppression of wages for American manufacturing employees. Further, in regard to environmental protections, the USMCA includes a provision that recognizes pollution as a threat to public he… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) today released the following statement after voting for the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), a deal negotiated by President Trump to modernize North American trade: American farmers, manufacturers, and workers won a historic victory today with passage of USMCA. I'm thrilled to finally cast my vote for this modernized trade agreement, which will keep our economic momentum going, create good jobs, and drive more American-made exports. It will open Canada's market for Hoosier farmers to sell dairy, eggs, and other ag products. It will dismantle trade barriers for our manufacturers and small businesses. And it will level the playing field for American workers. With historic tax cuts, regulatory reforms, USMCA, and the upcoming Phase One deal with China, President Trump is delivering on his promise to put our nation on a stronger path. I look forward to continuing our work together in the new year. Video of Walorski speaking on the House floor in support of USMCA earlier today is available here. USMCA will replace the 25-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with a modernized, improved set of rules for trade with Canada and Mexico. The new agreement: Includes a new chapter on digital trade that sets a global standard to ensure American innovators and e-commerce businesses can compete fairly; Expands exports of agricultural commodities, including soybeans, corn, and pork; Opens access to the Canadian market for American farmers to sell dairy, poultry, and eggs; Streamlines customs procedures in order to reduce inefficiencies and get American products to market faster; Levels the playing field for American workers by requiring Mexico to overhaul its labor system; and Ensures the U.S. can hold Mexico and Canada accountable through strong enforcement mechanisms. The bill passed the Senate by a vote of 81-11 and included several of Senator Young's priorities, including: Tobacco to 21 Act, legislation Senator Young introduced earlier this year to protect middle and high school students from the dangers of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and vaping. Permanent repeal of the medical device tax, an effort Senator Young has long championed to strengthen innovation, safeguard patient care, and protect Hoosier jobs. A 3.1 percent pay increase for our men and women in uniform the largest pay raise in a decade. I've consistently said that Congress has a duty to work for the American people even in the midst of partisan fighting. President Trump delivered on a smart, responsible government funding deal to protect American families during a time of divided government. Today's votes demonstrated that we can still accomplish big things in a bipartisan fashion, said Senator Young. With these votes, we have protected our youth from the dangers of tobacco addiction, increased defense spending to keep our country secure, supported our military men and women with the pay raise they deserve, advanced the southern border wall system, prioritized more resources to combat the opioid crisis, and repealed more of Obamacare's misguided policies, including the medical device tax. Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after voting against House Democrats' articles of impeachment of President Donald J. Trump: For over three years, House Democrats have been obsessed with impeaching President Trump because they simply cannot accept the results of the 2016 presidential election and are fearful for the results of the 2020 election. That is why from the outset, this sham impeachment process has been nothing more than a partisan exercise to influence the outcome of the 2020 election. Speaker Pelosi herself established the standard for impeachment when she said the only way she would move forward with impeachment was if the case was compelling, overwhelming, and bipartisan. Yet, the case for impeachment that has been rushed forward by House Democrats is anything but that. It woefully fails to meet this standard because it does not prove any wrongdoing or impeachable offense has actually taken place; instead, House Democrats' case rests solely on hearsay testimony and presumptions from cherry-picked witnesses. The only thing that is bipartisan about this impeachment is the opposition to it. The Framers of the Constitution never intended impeachment to be used as a tool to settle political and policy differences due to the devastating impact it has on the nation. That is what elections are for, and the American people have the opportunity to make their voices heard in 11 months. This is a sad and dangerous moment in our history as impeachment is being used to undo the will of the American people and silence the voices of millions of Americans in the process. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Brooks (R-District 5) voted in favor of a bipartisan spending agreement that includes five of her top priorities and funds the government through Oct. 1, 2020, the remainder of the current fiscal year. This legislation passed the U.S House of Representatives with strong bipartisan support. Congress has the constitutional responsibility to provide certainty to our economy and the American people by keeping the government funded and open, said Rep. Brooks. Although this funding agreement is not ideal, I was successful in securing five of my top priorities. This legislation includes permanently repealing the medical device tax, which was critical to Indiana's medical device manufacturers to ensure medical innovation and job growth. The bill reauthorizes poison control centers, which serve as an important line of defense against opioid overdoses. It increases funding for our nation's Strategic National Stockpile containing critical medical supplies, vaccines, antibiotics and more to ensure America is better prepared and ready for a public health emergency, such as Pandemic Influenza or Ebola. Additionally, this legislation provides continued funding for the Legal Service Corporations, providing financial support for civil legal aid to low-income Americans, and authorizes significant funding for rural broadband buildout, which guarantees better access to internet for all Hoosiers. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Brooks (R-IN05) provided the below statement following her vote against Articles of Impeachment. Today is a somber day for our country. For only the third time in our nation's history the House of Representatives voted to impeach a sitting President, said Rep. Brooks. Regrettably, the impeachment process in the House was flawed, inherently unfair, and politically motivated. All things our Founding Fathers warned us against. The Constitution of the United States allows for Congress to impeach a president if he or she commits high crimes and misdemeanors. In order to uphold the oath that each Member of Congress took to protect and defend the Constitution, they must ensure their vote is not motivated by partisan disagreement. As Alexander Hamilton said in the Federalist Papers, There will always be the greatest danger that the decision to use the impeachment power would be driven by partisan animosity instead of real demonstrations of innocence or guilt. Disappointingly, the House Democrats have been solely driven by partisan animosity. Their desire to find a path to impeach the President began the day he was sworn in. Contrary to past impeachment inquiries, there was no neutral independent investigation that took place before this impeachment inquiry began. Chairman Schiff of the House Intelligence Committee led the most partisan process imaginable acting as the investigator, prosecutor, grand jury, and judge. Contrary to past precedent, Chairman Schiff selected what evidence was heard and prevented the Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee and the President from presenting evidence of their own. Even with a completely one-sided and unfair fact gathering process, Chairman Schiff and the Democrats did not make their case. House Democrats' argument for impeaching the President ultimately rests on the allegation he asked a foreign power to intervene in the 2020 presidential election. In reality, it is the hypocrisy of the Democrats interfering in the 2020 election by imp… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

I rise today in support of two articles of impeachment one regarding abuse of power and one regarding obstruction of Congress against President Trump. I decided to support the President's impeachment after a judicious consideration of the facts established by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) and the House Committee on the Judiciary, as well as reflecting upon my constitutional responsibilities as a Member of Congress. I would note that the constitutional remedy for high crimes and misdemeanors such as abuse of power is impeachment. Regrettably, the President's severe misconduct with respect to Ukraine showed a complete disregard for our Constitution, our democratic system of government, and the security of our nation and our allies. The President left the House with little choice but to faithfully discharge its duty. As the Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, I believe that it is unconscionable that an American leader would use nearly $400 million in military aid appropriated by Congress and signed into law by the President himself as leverage for personal gain. There are fundamental reasons why U.S. law provided these desperately needed funds to Ukraine. I would emphasize that, in 2014, Russia invaded Ukraine and illegally annexed the Ukrainian territory of Crimea while Russian-backed separatist forces seized control of key cities in eastern Ukraine. The fighting in eastern Ukraine continues to this day and has killed more than 13,000 Ukrainians while forcibly displacing more than two million individuals. Additionally, the impeachment reports issued by the HPSCI and the House Committee on the Judiciary present an irrefutable case that the President's behavior constituted an ongoing threat to a free and fair Presidential election… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

WASHINGTON U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) today released the following statement after voting against both articles of impeachment: This is a sad day for our country. House Democrats have wanted to impeach President Trump since day one, regardless of the facts. When a child grows up in a high opportunity area, they are more likely to have successful life outcomes. Whether it be lower-crime, better education, access to transportation, quality healthcare, or suitable housing, higher opportunity areas offer children a greater chance to succeed. This bipartisan bill recognizes that certain areas offer different opportunities and will increase mobility by allowing people to choose the best neighborhood for their family. The American Dream should extend to every American child, regardless of the circumstances of their birth. Evidence clearly shows what happens when we empower families with young children to relocate to areas offering good jobs, quality schools, and safe neighborhoods: earnings grow, job vacancies are filled, poverty declines, and children more fully realize their God-given potential, said Senator Young. This bill draws on recent groundbreaking research to invest in housing mobility vouchers and customized relocation support services to improve life outcomes and strengthen Hoosier families, all while substantially reducing taxpayer expenditures on healthcare, public safety, and social services. Every American family deserves access to a safe, affordable home. But for young children, this need is especially dire. Stability at home helps promote their future success in school and later in their careers. As our communities struggle to keep up with the demand for affordable housing, housing vouchers have proven to be an effective solution to this problem. This legislation will expand their availability and increase opportunity for our young and most vu… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

I would like to begin by expressing appreciation to Ranking Member Calvert. He continues to be a tremendous partner in this process. I also would like to express my gratitude to Chairwoman Lowey, Ranking Member Granger, and the other Members of the Committee for their efforts. And thank you to each of our incomparable staff. This legislation would not be possible without their intellectual acumen, outstanding effort, and significant sacrifices, particularly over the past month. Division A of the bill provides appropriations for the Department of Defense and is the result of a negotiated compromise. Despite our best efforts, I was very disappointed to recede on certain provisions of the House passed bill, particularly those that restricted the ability of the Administration to reprogram defense funding for the border wall and several others that would have returned some balance to the oversight relationship between the Executive and Legislative Branches. The department's actions in the past year have worsened its relationship with the committee. With this agreement, we increase our emphasis on oversight as we move forward. There is a tremendous amount of good provided in this bill. The bill provides ample funding for the Department of Defense to make major investments in readiness. But our primary focus has been on the well-being and morale of those in uniform, their families, DoD civilians, and defense communities. The bill provides the funding necessary to support a 3.1 percent military pay raise for our women and men in uniform. This is the largest increase in basic pay since 2010. The bill provides an additional $110 million for upgrades to DoD childcare facilities, which I see as just the first step in addressing the significant shortage of quality childcare within the military services. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) today applauded House passage of a year-end funding agreement that includes her bipartisan bill to permanently repeal the job-killing medical device tax. The legislative package also ends two other costly Obamacare taxes, boosts funding for our military, and gives servicemembers their biggest pay raise in a decade. After years of fighting Speaker Pelosi and the special interests, today we've secured a major victory for Hoosier workers and patients across the country: permanent repeal of Obamacare's job-killing medical device tax, Congresswoman Walorski said. Ending this destructive tax once and for all will protect manufacturing jobs in northern Indiana, boost research and innovation of medical technologies, and ensure patients continue to have access to the cutting-edge products they need. We're also repealing two other costly Obamacare taxes that threatened to raise the cost of health care the health insurance tax and the Cadillac tax. We're ensuring states have the resources they need to transform their foster care systems and put families first. And we're providing certainty and tax relief to American farmers and small businesses by extending the biodiesel tax credit and the short line railroad tax credit. Finally, this bill puts America's national security first by providing the resources needed to continue the rebuilding of our military. It supports our servicemembers, veterans, and their families by providing a 3.1 percent pay raise for our troops the largest in a decade and fully funding the VA MISSION Act and Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act. The legislation is a culmination of years of research and leadership by Senator Young, dating back to his time in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Indiana there are more than 1,300 Hoosiers currently in need of a transplant, and nationally more than 113,000 people are waiting on an organ. The best way to save lives is to bring greater transparency, oversight, and accountability to the organizations responsible for getting organs from the donors to the patients who need them. I'm glad HHS is adopting these measures, which I have proposed in my legislation,to bring greater accountability to organ procurement organizations that have been operating in darkness for too long, said Senator Young. InApril 2019, Senator Young wrote to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services encouraging a change to their performance metrics for organ procurement organizations, known as OPOs. Senator Young thenintroduced legislation in July 2019that aims to deliver more life-saving organs to patients by establishing clear, accountable metrics for OPOs. Currently, the 58 OPOs in the United States maintain control over the organ procurement process, but questions surround the effectiveness, transparency, and accountability of these organizations. Senator Young's legislation would require that OPOs be held to metrics that are objective, verifiable, and not subject to self-interpretation by OPOs so that there can be meaningful transparency, evaluation, and accountability for OPOs across the country. Currently, OPO performance is measured by data that is self-reported, unaudited, and fraught with errors. The appropriations package, which just passed the House and now heads to the Senate, includes Senator Young's bipartisan Tobacco to 21 Act, legislation to protect middle and high school students from the dangers of e-cigarettes and tobacco products; the permanent repeal of the medial device tax, an effort Senator Young has long championed to strengthen innovation, safeguard patient care, and protect Hoosier jobs; and a 3.1% pay increase for our men and women in uniform, the largest pay raise in over a decade. Well, I'm just thankful as we approach year's end, that amidst all the debate and disagreement that has been occurring on Capitol Hill we were able to get this year-end spending package put together. Bipartisan in nature with many important things there for the American people, Senator Young said. Hopefully we can get this onto the President's desk, and we'll all act expeditiously as we approach year's end. View Senator Young's full comments here. Additional background here and below: Tobacco to 21 Act In April, Senator Young led a bipartisan group of Senators, including Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), and Mitt Romney (R-Utah), in introducing theTobacco to 21 Act. This bipartisan legislation addresses the nationwide epidemic of e-cigarette and tobacco use among high school and middle school students by prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21. The legislation passed out of the Senate HELP committee in June. Roughly 95 percent of adult smokers began smoking before the age of 21. Raising the tobacco age will help protect kids and prevent future smokers. Medical Device Ta… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

What They Are Saying: Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb: Prevention efforts are critically important. It's hard for people to stay on the road to recovery, so if you can stay off that road to addiction, all the better. I am grateful Sen. Young is dedicated to raising the age at the federal level and I'm proud to partner with him as we also tackle this issue at the state level. I'm confident we will work together to help Hoosiers achieve better health outcomes, said Governor Holcomb. Indiana State Medical Association: The Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA) strongly supports this legislation, said Lisa Hatcher, MD, ISMA president. The evidence is clear that raising the age to purchase tobacco products to 21 will deter youths from ever beginning to use tobacco and e-cigarettes. This proposal will save lives. Thank you to Sen. Young for taking action to address this serious health issue. Alliance for a Healthier Indiana: The Alliance for a Healthier Indiana applauds Senator Young for his commitment to moving the needle on Hoosier public health outcomes, said Bryan Mills, CEO of Community Health Network and founding member of the Alliance for a Healthier Indiana. Senator Young's legislation to raise the age of tobacco purchase from 18 to 21 shows he is a dedicated partner in creating an improved health climate for the next generation to come. Indiana Hospital Association: We have seen first-hand Senator Young's sincere concern regarding youth smoking and vaping in alarming numbers and we are sincerely grateful for his leadership. Senator Young, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate who served in the Marine Corps and now serves on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, worked to successfully include provisions in the annual military funding bill that support Indiana and national security priorities. The Senate voted86-8to approve the legislation and send it to the President for signature. The legislation we passed today includes provisions that are vital to our state and our national security. To keep Hoosier families safe, we must continue to modernize our military with advanced capabilities, invest in next generation jets, increase the Navy's fleet size, and most importantly, provide for those in uniform.I am proud that this year's NDAA will help us accomplish these goals, said Senator Young. I was especially pleased that I was able to secure language bolstering the research and development of hypersonic technology and call attention to the significant work happening on these efforts around the state of Indiana. In an era of great power competition, investing in next generation technologies like hypersonics will help guarantee our warfighters have unparalleled capabilities to deter or respond to global threats in the years ahead. The NDAA is critical to our national security as it authorizes critical funding for our service members and establishes the policies for the Department of Defense. This year's NDAA provides a significant pay raise for our troops, overhauls military housing, reassures our allies of America's strength and power abroad, and supports job creation and stability in Indiana's defense workforce. The following items are included in the agreement and will be voted on this week: Tobacco to 21 Act, legislation Senator Young introduced earlier this year to protect middle and high school students from the dangers of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and vaping. Permanent repeal of the medical device tax, an effort Senator Young has long championed to strengthen innovation, safeguard patient care, and protect Hoosier jobs. A 3.1 percent pay increase for our men and women in uniform the largest pay raise in a decade. This is a major win for Indiana. These three provisions will help protect Hoosier jobs, save lives, and support our troops, said Senator Young. Raising the legal tobacco age to 21 means that we will protect our youngest Hoosiers from the dangers of e-cigarettes and tobacco addiction. Permanently repealing the medical device tax will safeguard innovation, patient care, and crucial Hoosier jobs. And, as a Marine, I am especially proud to support our men and women in uniform by giving them the largest pay raise in a decade. Jim Banks (IN-03) released the following statement: Having failed to convince the American people or produce any evidence that the president committed a high crime or misdemeanor, Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and House Judiciary Democrats have determined to plow ahead anyway and vote to impeach the president on a party line vote, said Rep. Jim Banks. I am appalled that the powerful tool of impeachment is being abused in this fashion. This is a terribly sad day for our country. I will be joining my Republican Judiciary colleagues and voting NO on impeachment on the House floor next week, continued Banks. Banks' Protect Our Universities Act f t # e Washington, December 12, 2019 WASHINGTON Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) celebrated the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) inclusion of language he submitted addressing concerns from legislation Rep. Banks authored, H.R. 1678, the Protect Our Universities Act. The purpose of Protect Our Universities Act was to safeguard sensitive research at universities from foreign espionage. The language Rep. Banks submitted and included in this year's NDAA directs the Department of Defense to collect background information on anyone participating in Department-funded research. This procedure would especially apply to foreign nationals, from countries like China and Russia, as a means to ensure access to fundamental national security research is further safeguarded. That language can be found in sec. 1281 of the NDAA. The Chinese government has a long record of manipulating and pressuring Chinese nationals who study at American universities to be information collectors for the communist government and military in Beijing, said Rep. Jim Banks. I am glad we've become more vigilant in protecting Department of Defense research from Chinese espionage. In one infamous case reported by NBC, a Chinese student enrolled at Duke University stole American research on metamaterials and brought it back to China. Metamaterials can be used to make objects invisible to microwave signals, a significant scientific development with national security implications. The student went on to found a tech company now valued at $6 billion and enjoys regular visits from President Xi. Some believe that the student was on a mission from the Chinese government to steal American intellectual property. f t # e | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after voting against House Democrats' partisan plan for a government takeover of prescription drug manufacturers that will lead to fewer cures, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act (H.R. 3): No one disagrees that the cost of prescription drugs are too high and we need to work to make them affordable for American families. We have a historic opportunity for Republicans and Democrats in Congress to work together to pass meaningful reforms that would get drug costs down. However, while Americans must continue making difficult choices in order to afford their prescription drugs, Speaker Pelosihas chosen to putpolitics over progress by jamming partisan legislationthrough the Housethat will lead to fewer cures for patientsnot lower prices. If H.R. 3 which is dead on arrival in the United States Senate and President Trump has said he will veto were somehow to become law, we know this legislation will lead to fewer cures and treatments. Estimates show that anywhere from 8 to more than 100 new cures and treatments will be lost in the next decade alone. These are drugs that could cure Alzheimer's, ALS, or even cancer. While House Democrats may believe that preventing these cures and treatments from coming to market is worth it,' I do not. As a physician, the thought of patients being deniedaccess toa potentiallylife-saving cureor treatmentbecause of this partisan legislation is not a risk I am willing to take, and it is not a risk the American people should have to suffer. Simply put, a government takeover of the drug industry will lead to fewer cures and lost hope for Americans. If Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats wereserious about lowering drug prices, then they should have worked with House Republicans to passlegislation that can actually be signed into law. Susan Brooks supports lowering prescription drug costs, innovation | 2019-12-12 | 2019 | 2019-12 | Republican | House | IN | Susan Brooks | B001284 | susanwbrooks.house.gov | legacy | Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-Ind.-05) joined Members of the Energy and Commerce Committee in introducing H.R. 19, The Lower Costs, More Cures Act, which uses bipartisan reforms to lower out of pocket spending on prescription drugs, protect access to new medicines and cures, strengthen transparency and promote competition. It is clear that Americans pay far too much for drugs at the pharmacy counter. It is our duty to find solutions that lower costs while protecting innovation and future drug development in our country, Brooks said. I am disappointed Speaker Pelosi is not supporting this bipartisan, bicameral collaboration. I urge House Leadership to consider H.R. 19, The Lower Costs, More Cures Act, of which I am proud to be an original cosponsor. This package of bipartisan provisions previously passed through the House Energy and Commerce committee and achieves our shared goal of lowering drug prices and out-of-pocket costs for Americans, while ensuring the United States will continue to be on the cutting edge of biomedical research, innovation and breakthrough medicines to develop cures. Background H.R.19, The Lower Costs, More Cures Act, is a bipartisan alternative to Speaker Pelosi's partisan drug pricing plan. H.R. 19 requires insurance companies to make information about drug costs available in the doctor's office before a prescription is written so doctors and patients know the cost prior to arriving at the pharmacy counter. Equipped with pricing information up front, doctors can prescribe the medicine that is best and most affordable for their patients. This legislation increases low-cost options for patients by bringing more generic and biosimilar competition to the marketplace faster. It establishes a new negotiator at the United States Trade Representative to negotiate and advocate for the American consumer in all international trade agreements with respect to drug prices. Instead Democrats moved H.R. 3, which, according to the Congressional Budget Office would result in 15 fewer cures being developed. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) this week called for a vote on a bipartisan measure to lower the cost of prescription drugs, a commonsense alternative to a partisan proposal that would stifle medical innovation and lead to fewer treatments and cures. We all agree that prescription drug affordability is a vital issue for the American people, Congresswoman Walorski said. However, we shouldn't be sacrificing new cures in the process. That's why I support H.R. 19, the Lower Costs, More Cures Act. This bipartisan bill will lower out of pocket spending while also protecting access to new medicines and cures. Walorski on Wednesday spoke on the House floor in opposition to H.R. 3, a partisan bill that was written behind closed doors and would result in fewer cures, less innovation, and worse health outcomes for patients. She voted against the legislation, which passed the House on Thursday. H.R. 19, the Lower Costs, More Cures Act, is a bipartisan alternative that includes more than 40 provisions with support from both sides of the aisle. The bill would: Encourage innovation of life-saving medicines; Promote more low-cost options for patients; Improve transparency at the pharmacy counter; Prevent drug companies from gaming the system; Cap seniors' out-of-pocket drug costs; and Cut the cost of drug administration. Video of Congresswoman Walorski speaking on the House floor is available here. The full text of her remarks is below. Thank you, Madam Speaker. I rise today in strong opposition to H.R. 3. This misguided, partisan legislation was written behind closed doors. It will result in fewer cures, less innovation, and worse health outcomes. Today, Senator Mike Braun (R-IN), Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS), and Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) introduced theTax Payment Clarification Act (S. XXX) to fixthe tax code to ensure the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) follows congressional intent regarding structured payments of corporate tax liabilities. Through an unintended loophole, Indiana's Zimmer Biomet and other companies are being denied access to money that they overpaid to the IRS and this legislation fixes that problem, said U.S. Senator Mike Braun. As an former Main Street entrepreneur, I know firsthand that this legislation will help small businessescreate more jobs and grow our economy. Taxpayers should not be punished for attempting to follow the law, said Senator Pat Roberts. This legislation would allow the provision of the tax code to function as Congress intended, would return to businesses much-needed cash flow and would likely spur economic growth. Arizona businesses deserve a tax code thatis straightforward, fair, and supports job growth. Our bipartisan legislation ensures Arizona businesses can plan for the future and create more jobs for hard-working Arizonans, saidSinema. BACKGROUND In 2018, at least 115 businesses that overpaid their regular income tax liability were denied their expected refunds if they had an outstanding section 965 transition tax liability, notwithstanding that such taxpayers had elected to pay in installments and the first installment had been satisfied. The inability to receive a refund has affected the near-term cash flow of these companies and hindered their ability to expand operations, hire workers, and make investments. Businesses were provided an option to pay their section 965 transition tax in installments over an eight-year period, and this bill addresses a technical issue that has prevented a credit or refund of regular income tax overpayments in the initial year in which the transition tax applies. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

With two weeks remaining this year, the office has resolved more than 1,300 cases, resulting in $3,089,128 returned to Hoosiers. A core function of Senator Young's office is constituent services. The office is able to help Indiana residents who have problems with a federal agency. This often involves helping Hoosiers appeal when payments like veteran's disability benefits and Social Security benefits are improperly denied. More than $1 million of the total returned were Social Security benefits. The single biggest payment was $423,900 to a military spouse whose Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SLGI) claim was denied in 2008. Overwhelmed by the appeals process, the constituent had been living on welfare for the last decade until Senator Young's staff was able to help. The size and scope of the federal government is not only discouraging but often prevents Hoosiers from receiving what is rightfully owed from the government, said Senator Young. This year alone my team of dedicated staff members has helped resolve more than 1,300 cases returning over $3 million into the hands of Hoosiers. I will continue to work to ensure that veterans, seniors, and all Hoosiers are not forgotten by their government. In addition to financial claims, Senator Young has helped recover service medals for Hoosier veterans. In 2019, Senator Young presented Bronze Stars, Purple Hearts, and other medals to those who were missing or never received their service medals. A few examples include: Vietnam War Veteran, George E. Many Suicide Prevention Coordinators report being overworked and unable to keep up with their many responsibilities. The Support for Suicide Prevention Coordinators Act would help ensure these men and women have the tools and resources they need to provide veterans with critical mental health resources. Our country loses nearly 20 of our heroes a day, said Rep. Banks. This rate has remained virtually unchanged since 2005, despite increasing VA mental health funding by 250%. Our VA Suicide Prevention Coordinators those at the forefront of this epidemic need our support to best serve our heroes in need. I am proud to co-lead this legislation to require GAO to review the training, workload, and staffing at VA to ensure that our Suicide Prevention Coordinators have the tools and resources they need to assist veterans in crisis. I would like to thank my colleagues, Rep. Anthony Brindisi (D-NY) and Senators Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and Jon Tester (D-MT) for their partnership on this measure and I urge President Trump to quickly sign this critical legislation into law. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Today, the National Defense Authorization Act passed the House of Representatives and awaits action in the Senate. Rep. Jim Banks sits on the House Armed Services Committee which is responsible for authorizing funding levels for the military. Over the past several months, Rep. Banks has served on the NDAA Conference Committee, which is responsible for reconciling differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill. Throughout this process, Rep. Jim Banks was able to fight to ensure that the Fiscal Year 2020 NDAA delivers on Indiana's defense priorities. I'm proud of the final bill and conference report that passed in the House today. With this bill, Indiana will continue to be a hub for defense research and manufacturing, said Rep. Jim Banks. My colleagues on the Conference Committee worked together to bridge many of the gaps that made the original bill overly partisan and threatened our national security. Our work is not over; we need to continue to look to the future and develop new, innovative technologies. Hoosier Priorities included in FY20 NDAA: Hypersonics Transition Office Strengthens the partnership between the Department of Defense and universities by creating a hypersonics consortium. Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after voting in support of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2020 (S. 1790), a robust package that supports our troops and their ability to defend our nation: One of the most basic responsibilities that the Constitution gives to Congress is to provide for our nation's defense, and the NDAA is critical to fulfilling that responsibility.I am proud to support the brave men and women who volunteer to protect our freedoms and our way of life.ThisbipartisanNDAA agreement enables our military to confront the threats to our national security that are on the horizon in the 21stcentury by ensuringthat our national defense is properly funded and that our troops have the tools they need to get the job done. Additionally, this NDAA ensures that our troops and their families are properly cared for by authorizingthe largest pay-raise in a decade, repealingthe Widow's Tax, and reforming privatized military housing. It also delivers on a number of key priorities for the Trump Administration, including establishment of the U.S. Space Force as the sixth branch of our military and12 weeks of paid parental leave for "civilian" federal employees, a benefit military members already have. "When the Indian Prime Minister Modi announced the unilateral changes to Jammu and Kashmir's status on August 5th, I expressed my grave concern about its implications for the future of Kashmir. It is a dangerous move that disregards international norms, ignores the democratic will of the Kashmiri people, undermines the rich tradition of Indian constitutionalism and raises huge questions about the future of India. "Today, we witness yet another potentially devastating move by the Prime Minister, as lawmakers enacted his draconian Citizenship Amendment Bill. However, this action is not unexpected, considering the history of Mr. Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party and its connections to strident communalism. This move is yet another attempt to effectively reduce Muslims in India to second-class citizens. "In other cases, Modi has targeted India's minority Muslim community, which identifies as uniquely Indian, with citizenship tests in a blatant attempt to deny that community's constitutional rights and liberty, as well as its sense of place. These citizenship "exercises" and new laws strike at the heart of India's founding tradition as a multicultural society. Once the Senate passes the NDAA, it heads to President Trump's desk to be signed into law. The passage of the NDAA in the House is a victory for our men and women in uniform. I am proud and honored my OORAH bill was included, and I am grateful we are one step closer to the President's desk, and one step closer to helping our Gold Star Families, said Congressman Pence. I applaud President Trump's work to fight for this legislation and his support of our military, and I look forward to seeing the NDAA pass in the Senate soon. Pence, a United States Marine Corps and Beirut Veteran, introduced the OORAH Act in May to help Gold Star Families reach justice for the 1983 Marine Barracksterrorist attack. The OORAH Act allows the Gold Star Families of that attack to access $1.68 billion in frozen Iranian funds. Pence's bill passed the House with bipartisan support as an amendment to H.R. 3494 in July, and is now included in the NDAA for FY2020. H.R. 2207, introduced by Representative Walorski (IN-02) in April, would lower the cost of life-saving medical devices and create jobs by repealing the 2.3 percent excise tax on medical devices. Pence joined members of the Indiana Republican Delegation in support of a procedural effort to amend H.R. 3, the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act, to include H.R. 2207. Democrats rejected this measure. The medical device industry employs hundreds of thousands of hardworking Americans, including over 20,000 Hoosiers, said Congressman Pence. This is a tax on innovation, competitiveness, patients, and working families. Permanently repealing the medical device tax would boost American manufacturing, encourage research and innovation, protect patients who depend on these products, and support good-paying jobs in Indiana and nationwide. Congress must repeal the Medical Device Tax. Video of Congressman Pence's full remarks on the House floor are available here. ### Congressman Greg Pence represents Indiana's 6th District. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA-19) and Dan Newhouse (R-WA-04), passed the U.S. House of Representatives with a XX-XX vote. The bipartisan effort was negotiated over eight months with input from agricultural stakeholders and labor organizations and was introduced with the support of 26 Democrats and 23 Republicans. Click here for a one-pager and click here for bill text. The men and women who work America's farms feed the nation. But, farmworkers across the country are living and working with uncertainty and fear, contributing to the destabilization of farms across the nation, said Rep. Zoe Lofgren. Our bill offers stability for American farms by providing a path to legal status for farmworkers. In addition, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act addresses the nation's future labor needs by modernizing an outdated system for temporary workers, while ensuring fair wages and workplace conditions. I urge the Senate to follow the House's lead and swiftly pass the first-of-its-kind bipartisan immigration compromise in decades that improves America's agricultural labor programs and laws. Creating a legal and reliable workforce for American agriculture has been one of my highest priorities since coming to Congress, said Rep. Dan Newhouse. Our farmers and ranchers facing a labor crisis need relief, and the men and women who contribute to our nation's agriculture industry need certainty. The Farm Workforce Modernization Act is the first step. This bill is our opportunity to finally provide stability to America's farms and a significant improvement over the status quo. I am grateful to Representative Lofgren, our bipartisan coalition, and all of the agriculture and labor groups who helped draft the bill, and I encourage input from my colleagues as we continue working to improve this legislation in the Senate. The tax is set to go back into effect January 1, 2020. Once again we're approaching year's end and one of our most innovative sectors, the medical device manufacturing sector, is under threat. Years ago, everyone will recall, Democrats and only Democrats voted to implement this onerous tax. It's a tax on innovation, it's a tax on American competitiveness, it's a tax on American working families. And I've seen these hardworking manufacturing workers, who work at these device companies back home in Indiana. Look, they take great pride in their work. These jobs pay far more than the median wage in Indiana, they know that they are involved in life-sustaining, often times life improving work. This work can only continue, however, if we're able to at the least give a reprieve to these innovative companies, and the workers who make these important products by delaying the implementation of the medical device tax which is set to go back into effect in January of next year, said Senator Young. this also means Democrats who for years have indicated they support a full repeal of this tax calling Nancy Pelosi and encouraging Nancy Pelosi get on board, because unfortunately she and only she is the primary barrier to seeing this tax delayed or ultimately repealed, Senator Young added. Trade with our North American neighbors is critical to Hoosier manufacturers and farmers. Indiana is the most manufacturing intensive state in the country, and one out of four Hoosier manufacturing businesses directly export to Canada or Mexico, resulting in roughly 60,000 jobs. Additionally, 95 percent of farms in Indiana are family owned and they rely on access to markets. While I am still reviewing compromise provisions which were finalized this week, I am hopeful that both chambers can move to pass implementing legislation for the benefit of our farmers, manufacturers, and all American workers. Congressman Jim Baird (R-IN) and Congresswoman Haley Stevens (D-MI) introduced H.R. 1665, which unanimously passed the House in July. S. 737 is the nearly identical Senate version of the bill. This legislation is now headed to the President's desk to be signed into law. Fostering the natural curiosity that children possess is critical to expanding their interests in science, technology, engineering, and math. Equally important is ensuring that we get more girls involved in the STEM fields, so that we have as many people as possible contributing to the knowledge base of our society. It is very timely that the House approved this legislation since today marks the beginning of Computer Science Education Week, said Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04). This bill helps ensure we are preparing our future workforce to fill the jobs of the future. By passing this important legislation we will continue America's global leadership in science and technology, said Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04) Ranking Member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Frank Lucas said the following after House passage: I'm grateful to Representative Baird for his leadership on this bipartisan STEM education bill with Representative Stevens. The demand for skilled workers in science, technology, engineering, math, and computer sciences is growing exponentially and we need to expand our workforce to keep America at the leading edge of innovation. To meet that need we must engage childrenparticularly girlsin STEM at a young age and encourage them to stay involved as they grow. The Building Blocks of STEM Act does just that. Monday marks the 374th day since the USMCA was finalized and signed by President Trump. House Democrats obsess over a starkly partisan impeachment while our nation's farmers and ranchers are left on the backburner. The immediate consideration and passage of this vital trade agreement is urgent. The full text of the letter is below: __ Dear Speaker Pelosi: The undersigned Republican Members strongly urge you to ensure that the House of Representatives takes up and passes the U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement this year. With just two weeks remaining, the House has so far squandered the first session of the 116th Congress. Rather than working together to pass bipartisan measures that could be signed into law, House Democrats have instead obsessed over a partisan impeachment process of which the sole purpose is to overturn the decision of voters in the 2016 election. The little remaining time has largely been consumed by passing partisan messaging bills that have no chance of enactment, even in the case where common ground could easily have been found. Thankfully, it is not too late for House Democrats to do the right thing. For starters, the House should finally stop dithering on USMCA and pass this critically important trade agreement. Nearly every agriculture group in America has called on Congress to pass USMCA, which significantly improves trade relations with our two largest trading partners that together purchase about one-third of all U.S. agricultural exports. Under USMCA, U.S. agricultural exports alone are expected to increase by more than $2 billion annually, helping to build on the 325,000 American jobs that are already reliant on our nation's exports to Mexico and Canada. Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after voting against the Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 4), a federal power grab that gives the Department of Justice control over state and local elections without any proof of voter discrimination: An American citizen's right to vote is one of our most cherished freedoms. That is why our nation has robust protections in law, such as the Voting Rights Act, to ensure that discrimination doesn't impact an American citizen's ability to exercise their right to vote. However, House Democrats continue to protest the results of the 2016 presidential election because it did not go their way. H.R. 4 is just another cynical attempt by House Democrats to enact heavy-handed government regulations at the federal level that will give Washington the ability to micromanage state and local election laws and give Democrats an unfair advantage at the ballot box that will silence the voices of Americans that do not agree with them. Background The Voting Rights Act(VRA)is permanent law and does not require reauthorization. It includes robust protections and remedies to protect Americans from voter discrimination. Section 2 of the VRA already allows lawsuits to challenge state and local voting laws, including through preliminary injunctions. Section 3 of the VRA already allows federal judges to put jurisdictions under preclearance requirements when those jurisdictions have a record of actual discrimination in voting. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

U.S. Congressman Greg Pence (IN-06) joined 19 Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) in urging Speaker Pelosi to schedule votes on urgent bipartisan priorities that are blocked while Democrats pursue their hyper-partisan impeachment. With only eight more legislative days left this year, the Members, led by Ranking Member Michael McCaul (R-TX), called on Speaker Pelosi to use the remaining time productively and focus on advancing the USMCA and critical border security measures as well as responsibly funding the government to prevent a harmful shutdown. They added that the Speaker must allow Congress to address these critical issues facing our country, instead of dividing the American people with a partisan impeachment probe less than a year before the presidential election. In the letter, HFAC Republicans wrote:The Democrat's partisan impeachment process is impeding the House of Representatives from acting on solutions for the American people. As this session of Congress comes to an end, we respectfully request you bring pressing bipartisan legislation to the floor so we can create more jobs, enhance our border security, and provide funding to better protect the United States from rising threats abroad. It is vital that Congress show the American people we can work together to solve our nation's biggest challenges. They continued:We must pass final FY2020 spending bills that fully fund our military, support our frontline defenders and law enforcement, and provide the necessary resources to the Department of State to help protect against the rising nation state threats including Russia, China, North Korea and Iran. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) today reintroduced the Ensuring Patient Access to Critical Breakthrough Products Act of 2019 (H.R. 5333). This bill would guarantee Medicare beneficiaries access to cutting-edge medical innovation by streamlining the coverage determination process and improving the availability of breakthrough devices for patients. Walorski's bipartisan legislation is being co-led by Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.), Rep. Tony Crdenas (D-Calif.), Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.), Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Ala.), and Rep. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.). We need to remove the unnecessary barriers preventing seniors from getting the cutting-edge medical products they need, including medical devices, Congresswoman Walorski said. The Ensuring Patient Access to Critical Breakthrough Products Act will encourage life-saving medical innovation and expand treatment options covered by Medicare. These important reforms will open new doors for future innovative therapies and cures that will improve quality of life for seniors. This hurry-up-and-wait situation makes no sense. Seniors shouldn't have to wait unnecessarily to access medical products that can change or even save their lives, Congresswoman DelBene said. Guaranteeing coverage of breakthrough technologies and opening the door to coverage of new digital-based products encourages investment in the industry, facilitating innovation and future advancements. It's wrong that our seniors are forced to wait years for access to critical medical technologies, Congressman Crdenas said. This bill cuts the time Medicare enrollees must wait to access revolutionary medical technology by improving the determination process for patients. This is a smart, bipartisan solution to a problem that affects millions of seniors across the United States. TheSocial Determinants Accelerator Actwould establish a federal interagency council to better leverage existing programs and address the barriers to coordination between health and social services programs. The bill would also help states and localities to develop innovative strategies to address social determinants in their communities. Specifically, we hold great concern that the People's Republic of China (PRC), a country plagued with violent suppression of free speech, state-sponsored oppression, and human rights abuses, is set to serve as host to the 2022 Olympic Winter Games without proper guidelines or requirements. For years, host cities have unfortunately committed human rights abuses in accordance with the preparation and conducting of the Olympic Games. In response to these concerning trends, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in December 2014, unanimously agreed to adopt the Olympic Agenda 2020. This document maintains that Olympic principles are United Nations principles; one reform included in adhering to these international principles is an overhaul to the Host City Contract requirements to be fully implemented by 2024. The Olympic Agenda 2020 and its corresponding Host City Contract requirements were unanimously adopted seven months prior to the awarding of the 2022 Olympic Games to Beijing, PRC, and the execution of its Host City Contract. As part of the host city selection process, the IOC considers whether the Games would leave a positive legacy that meets the individual needs and long-term development goals of the respective city and region. Further, the IOC's Olympic Charter holds that The goal of Olympism is to place sport at the service of the harmonious development of humankind, making the host city a crucial piece of the puzzle. Rightfully present in the revised Host City Contract under the Olympic Agenda 2020 is an address of the host city's respect of human rights. The report, the Contest for Innovation: Strengthening America's National Security Innovation Base in an Era of Strategic Competition, addresses key challenges facing the Department of Defense (DoD) as it prepares for the future constructs of warfare. Rep. Jim Banks' served as Commissioner on the Reagan Task Force for nearly a year and his input was critical in shaping the report and its recommendations. The Reagan Task Force's report is the product of a year's worth of hard-work from some of the defense community's sharpest minds. Policymakers will look to this report to equip the U.S. military to rapidly respond to a changing defense landscape. It was an honor to work on this important Task Force and prepare the United States for the new, emerging national security challenges as we enter an era of Great Power Competition.said Rep. Banks. Background: The Task Force was co-chaired by former Senator Jim Talent (R-MO) and former Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert O. Work. Representatives Andy Kim (D-NJ), Stephanie Murphy (D-FL), and Mike Gallagher (R-WI) all served on the Task Force with Rep. Jim Banks. Rep. Banks applauds the Task Force's focus on espionage risks posed by foreign exchange student involvement in Department of Defense (DoD) funded research projects. Rep. Banks' Protect our Universities Act of 2019 mitigates that risk by requiring exchange students from adversarial nations to receive waivers from the Director of National Intelligence in order to work on DoD funded projects. The report also found that emerging research, such as hypersonic weapons, must be prioritized by the National Security Innovation Base. Fort Wayne, Indiana is home to several key defense research technologies, such as electronic warfare tools and hypersonics research. Today, the White House released a statement outlining the devastating effects of H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019, Speaker Nancy Pelosi's top-down, heavy-handed government approach to reducing the cost of prescription drugs for the American people. The Trump Administration is committed to lowering prescription drug prices while encouraging medical innovation to help patients access new lifesaving drugs. H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019, may share the Trump Administration's first goal of lowering prices, but the threat it poses to continued medical innovation will harm American patients in ways that far outweigh any benefits. White House Full Press Release This heavy-hand government approach which will stymie the development of future cures is not the way to lower drug prices. I supported bipartisan solutions which Speaker Pelosi refuses to bring to the House floor in a way that can be signed into law. I will continue to work in a bipartisan way to get drug prices down for the American people. Dr. Bucshon Background Dr. Bucshon supported legislation to lower prescription drug costs that were passed out of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce in a bipartisan manner. CREATES Act - (H.R. 965) - Increases access to affordable prescription drugs by preventing pharmaceutical companies' bad behavior that delays access to generic competition. Pay for Delay - (H.R. 1499) Makes it illegal for brand-name drug manufacturers to pay generic manufacturers to keep generic prescription drugs off the market. Blocking Act - (H.R. 938) Expands access to generic prescription drugs by speeding up the introduction of generic drugs into the market. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

I was honored to support the Fostering Undergraduate Talent by Unlocking Resources for Education (FUTURE) Act when the House passed this legislation unanimously in September of this year. The FUTURE Act would provide $255 million for Minority-Serving Institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs), and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). Unfortunately, despite the unanimous bipartisan support for this bill here in the House, my colleagues in the Senate have blocked this legislation from consideration. This is unacceptable. HBCUs, and all MSIs, deserve our continued support and should not be treated as a political football. Since 1837, HBCUs have trained generations of African American students and scholars. The economic benefits of HBCUs extend beyond the students they educate. They're equally important to the local and regional economies served by these institutions. Today, there are nearly 300,000 future scientists, teachers, entrepreneurs and researchers preparing for their professional endeavors at more than 100 HBCUs throughout the country.HBCUs account for 17% of all bachelor's degrees earned by African Americans and 24% of the degrees earned by African Americans in the STEM fields. HBCUs have an inspiring past and a dynamic present in their unique role of raising up new academic leaders against the legacy of Jim Crow and decades of persistent and systemic racism.Annually, HBCUs support 134,000 jobs and provide $14.8 billion in economic output. As of last weekend it was one year, one year, since the President of the United States signed the USMCA Trade Deal with our counter parties: Canada and Mexico. So it's been a year and Congress still has not voted on this, said Senator Young. Look, Nancy Pelosi needs to bring this bill to the floor. She herself has said it's the easiest trade deal that we've ever done'. She also said, we want to pass this bill'. Well let's get it done. Under the bill, TSA PreCheck benefits would be free for veterans who are amputees, paralyzed, or blind. With momentum on our side, the bill passed the Senate and moved to the House. I had hoped this would be a clear example of Congress working together to make a positive difference in the lives of our wounded warriors. Sadly, that was not the case. After five months and counting, the legislation continues to languish in the House over objections being raised by Washington bureaucrats in the Department of Veterans Affairs,Senator Young writes. Fort Wayne Journal Gazette: Wounded warriors need not suffer TSA indignities By: U.S. SenatorTodd Young Sunday, December 01, 2019 https://www.journalgazette.net/opinion/columns/20191201/wounded-warriors-need-not-suffer-tsa-indignities This holiday season, millions of Americans are preparing to travel. But some veterans with disabilities are dreading the trip because of the indignities they will endure at TSA security checkpoints. I've proposed a solution that received unanimous support in the U.S. Senate. Now, bureaucrats in Washington are holding it up, and we must speak out. Navigating airport security can be a stressful and frustrating experience for the most seasoned traveler, and for our brave disabled veterans, this experience can be humiliating at times. Earlier this year, a few Hoosier veterans detailed for me the struggle that veterans with disabilities face during the airport screening process. WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) today released the following statement in advance of Thanksgiving: From my family to yours, I want to wish all Hoosiers a happy Thanksgiving. This year, America has a lot to be thankful for. We remain a country of unprecedented prosperity and enduring freedom, founded on the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This is only made possible by the brave men and women who are currently overseas, defending the freedoms we so cherish. Because some of these brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines are not able to be home this Thanksgiving, I want to especially recognize their daily sacrifices, and the sacrifices of their families, that allow us to remain safe and secure in our great nation. Jim Banks Announces Service Academy Nominees | 2019-11-25 | 2019 | 2019-11 | Republican | House | IN | Jim Banks | B001299 | banks.house.gov | legacy | Washington, D.C. Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03)today announced that he has nominated 12 students from Indiana's 3rdCongressional District for acceptance to U.S. Service Academies as the Class of 2024. Said Rep. Banks,These twelve bright, young men and women represent the best northeast Indiana has to offer. Because of their academic success, each one of them had the option to attend a wide-range of top tier universities. They have chosen to serve their country and commit themselves to the American military. It's remarkable to see such a strong sense of patriotism and duty at such a young age. I wish each of them the best of luck in the final stage of the admissions process. BACKGROUND: Admission to a Service Academy is a two-tiered process. First, the applicant must directly apply to the Academy and meet the set minimum standards. These standards include, but are not limited to medical, physical, and academic qualifications. The second tier in pursuing admissionis the nominationprocess. A nomination does not guarantee admission to a service academy, but it's required to be considered. On November 16, 2019, Congressman Banks' U.S. Service Academy Advisory Board interviewed students seeking a nomination to U.S. Service Academies. We lost a person that loved others. I heard those words from a mother named Tonya, speaking about her son, Blake, at a roundtable in my Oregon district recently. Blake's story is one we have heard far too often a life lost to the opioid crisis that has killed more Americans in one year than the entire Vietnam War. Another family left in its wake; another reminder that our work to combat this crisis is far from over, just one year after President Trump signed H.R.6, the SUPPORT Act into law. The SUPPORT Act is already making significant impacts in the fight against the opioid crisis. Key provisions of the law are being implemented on the ground, just as new preliminary data show a decline in drug overdose deaths for the first time in nearly 30 years. But, as we all said from the beginning, just as the SUPPORT Act was not our first effort in the fight against the opioid crisis, it surely will not be our last. We cannot allow the progress made against this crisis to turn into complacency. We cannot allow the progress made against this crisis to turn into complacency. That's why, on the one-year anniversary of the SUPPORT Act becoming law in October, we highlighted 12 bills that Congress should consider right now in order to further our efforts to combat the epidemic of substance use disorder (SUD). These bipartisan bills represent a commitment to continue the all-hands-on-deck approach in the next front of this fight to stem the tide of addiction and save lives in our communities. We should work to pass them into law this Congress: H.R. 2062,the Overdose Prevention and Patient Safety Act, sponsored by Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK).This legislation passed the House last Congress by an overwhelming bipartisan vote. It would ensure that we are effectively and safely treating patients suffering from SUD by giving providers appropriate access to needed patient records, without sacrificing patient privacy. Pyle Post Office | 2019-11-25 | 2019 | 2019-11 | Republican | House | IN | Todd Young | Y000064 | www.young.senate.gov | legacy | November 25, 2019 Young, Braun Introduce Bill to Designate Ernest Ernie' T. Pyle Post Office DANA, Ind. U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Mike Braun (R-Ind.) today announced they introduced legislation to rename the post office in Dana, Indiana, after Ernest Ernie' T. Pyle, the celebrated war correspondent and Hoosier journalist who was born near Dana. On April 18, 1945, Pyle was reporting on the U.S. Army's 305th Infantry Regiment when he was killed. Naming the Dana post office after Ernie Pyle is one way to honor the important contributions of this celebrated war correspondent who made a lasting impact on American journalism, said Senator Young. I'm proud to join with my Indiana colleagues to pay tribute to this Hoosier hero. Ernie Pyle is an American hero who gave his life in World War II and it's only fitting to name the post office in Dana, Indiana after him, said Senator Braun. After studying journalism at Indiana University, Ernie Pyle served as a beloved correspondent in Indiana and later overseas during World War II. Beginning his career at La Porte's The Daily Herald, Mr. Pyle would go on to receive the Pulitzer Prize for his distinguished reporting of WWII in 1944. During his tenure as a war correspondent, he worked alongside our soldiers in the field to produce work that properly commemorated a soldier's courage and sacrifice. He was awarded the Medal for Merit and the Purple Heart posthumously. Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) led the introduction of similar legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives. Senator Young previously introduced a resolution designating National Ernie Pyle Day. Click here to view the bill text. Brooks (R-IN05) and Andr Carson (D-IN07) along with the entire Indiana congressional delegation reintroduced a Stomach Cancer Awareness Month resolution in memory of Indy Star reporter and columnist Matthew Tully. Stomach cancer is the fifth most common type of cancer worldwide and one of the most difficult to detect in its early stages. This year, more than 27,000 cases of stomach cancer were diagnosed in the United States. More than 40 percent of these Americans will lose their battle with the disease. Tully was one of nearly 11,000 Americans who died from stomach cancer last year. He first wrote about his diagnosis in October 2016. He died on October 29, 2018, and is survived by his wife, Valerie, and son, Reid. Indianapolis suffered a great loss with Matt Tully's death from stomach cancer a year ago, said Congresswoman Brooks. As an award-winning journalist for the Indy Star, Matt understood the power and importance of his column in shaping public policy in our community. He regularly used that power and influence to improve our community and the lives of those about whom he wrote, like the students of Manual High School. Sadly Tully, like roughly 11,000 Americans a year, died far too young from stomach cancer. In his honor and the honor of all those others courageously fighting this disease, I am pleased to join my Hoosier colleagues in introducing this resolution to recognize the month of November as Stomach Cancer Awareness Month. According to the American Cancer Society more than 27,000 Americans will be diagnosed with stomach cancer this year alone, and in the same time period, around 11,000 will die from this aggressive illness, saidCongressman Carson. We can't accept these startling numbers. That's why I am honored to once again join Congresswoman Brooks in this bipartisan effort to spread awareness about stomach cancer, pay tribute to all who have courageously battled it, and strengthen the search for better treatment and cures. Senator Young and the Indiana congressional delegation introduced the resolutionagainthis year in memory of Indy Star reporter and columnist Matthew Tully. Last year, Matthew lost his battle to stomach cancer. Yesterday evening the resolution passed the Senate. Stomach cancer is the fifth most common type of cancer worldwide and one of the most difficult to detect in its early stages. This year, more than 27,000 cases of stomach cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and more than 11,000 Americans will lose their battle with the disease. The resolution expresses support for more education of patients and health care providers and more research into early diagnosis, screening, and treatment. Matthew Tully first wrote about his diagnosis in October 2016. He died on October 29, 2018, and is survived by his wife, Valerie, and son, Reid. Since his death, his wife established a fund to help disadvantaged children, and his friends and colleagues continue to honor his legacy. In one of his final columns, Matt said his goal was to spark conversations and offer a unique perspective.' He did far more than that. Through the words he wrote, Matt brought communities together, shined a bright light on the problems we faced, and called attention to the everyday Hoosiers who were trying to make life better, said Senator Young. It is my hope that this resolution will spark conversations about stomach cancer and draw attention to efforts to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment efforts. Rush(D-Ill.) and Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.) introduced H.R. 5200, the Prostate-Specific Antigen Screening for High-risk Insured Men (PSA Screening for HIM) Act, whichwould waive deductibles, copayments, and coinsurances for prostate cancer screenings for men who have a family history of prostate cancer or who are African-American. I am pleased to introduce the PSA Screening for HIM Act, which would waive cost-sharing for prostate cancer screenings for African-American men or men who have a family history of the disease. The removal of these financial barriers will help millions of at-risk men to diagnose this potentially deadly cancer early, which can often mean the difference between life and death, said Rep. Rush. Modern medicine is providing Americans the chance to live longer and healthier lives, including men diagnosed with prostate cancer. However, the key to successful treatment is early detection of the disease. The PSA Screening for HIM Act will help save lives by removing financial barriers that can prevent men who are most at risk African-Americans and those with a first-degree family history of prostate cancer from getting screened for prostate cancer and catching the disease in its early and treatable stage, saidDr. Bucshon. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men in the United States, and African-American men are 70 percent more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer disease than white men. Additionally, men with a father or brother with metastatic prostate cancer are more than twice as likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than men without a family history. According to the American Cancer Society, the survival rate for prostate cancer diagnosed in early stage is near 100 percent but prostate cancer diagnosed in late stage has only a 30 percent survival rate. The Opioid Workforce Act of 2019 (S. 2892/H.R. 3414) would fund additional Medicare-supported graduate medical education positions in hospitals that have or are in the process of establishing approved residency programs in addiction medicine, addiction psychiatry or pain management. The bill is being led in the House by Representatives Brad Schneider, D-Illinois; Susan Brooks, R-Indiana; Elise Stefanik, R-New York; and Ann Kuster, D-New Hampshire; and in the Senate by Sens. Maggie Hassan, D-New Hampshire, and Susan Collins, R-Maine. Funding these new residency positions would significantly strengthen the health care workforce that serves on the front lines of the opioid epidemic and improve patient access to care,David Skorton, M.D., Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) president and CEO, said in a statement. A bill introduced earlier this year, the Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act of 2019, is alsoawaiting action in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. It would gradually provide 15,000 Medicare-supported residency positions over a five-year period starting in 2021. The AAMC projects that by 2032, the demand for physicians in both primary and specialty care will outpace supply by up to 121,900 physicians, primarily as a result of an agingpopulation with increasing health care needs. While U.S. medical school enrollment has increased, averting a physician shortage now depends on more residency training slots, according tothe results of an annual survey from AAMC. The number of residency positions has increased only 1% a year, far lower than the 52% growth in medical school spots since 2002, the AAMC said. Federally supported residency training slots have been capped by Congress for more than 20 years, limiting the spots for medical school graduates to undergo additional trai… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Unfortunately, like other war powers discussions, Congress has taken a backseat in the debate over the future of our mission in Afghanistan while the conflict has descended towards a stalemate. This bipartisan legislation aims to change that. As we pursue negotiations with the Taliban and work to end our involvement, Congress must be a part of the process to ensure that our mission is brought to a responsible end. There is no question it is time for a significant and sustained reduction of American troops in Afghanistan. Similarly, the way in which we draw down this military operation is critical so that Afghanistan does not descend into chaos, said Senator Menendez. This bipartisan effort is in line with the Administration's goals to achieve a political end to the war in a responsible manner, and also seeks to protect the hard fought gains made for the rights of Afghan women and minorities.Afghanistan can never again become a platform for terroristattacks against the United States or our allies. This is exactly why Congress must assert its oversight authority in the even… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) announced grants for multiple towns across three counties in the Eighth Congressional District awarded by the United States Department of Agriculture for water and waste development projects directed at communities in rural America. I am pleased to see the United States Department of Agriculture make these important investments in our communities.Too many of America's ruraltowns and countieshave outdated, and sometimes even unsafe, drinking and wastewater infrastructure. The success ofthese Hoosier communitiesisdependent upon updated and properly maintained water infrastructure. WASHINGTONU.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's Multilateral Institutions Subcommittee, today hosted a hearing titled, Challenges and Opportunities For Advancing U.S. Interests in the United Nations System'. The hearing focused on the changing landscape at the United Nations and how we can work with our partners and allies to advance U.S. interests around the globe. Senator Young recently introduced bipartisan legislation along with Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) instructing the Director of National Intelligence to examine China's activity at the United Nations and other international organizations. Testimony from witnesses at today's subcommittee hearing underscored the need to pass this legislation. As China's economy continues to grow and it exerts greater influence in the world, it is natural that it would seek more positions of power within the UN system. As it does so, it is incumbent upon the United States and our allies to ensure China supports and defends universal values rather than its own domestic political agenda, Senator Young said in his opening statement. Human rights, free speech, freedom of movement, freedom of religion, due process, and access to information are just a few of the values that are essential elements of the UN charter and its goal to maintain international peace and security. We need look no further than Xinjiang or Hong Kong to have serious concerns about China's lack of respect for fundamental human rights. Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after the House Energy and Commerce Committeeunanimouslypassed the Maternal Health Quality Improvement Act (H.R. 4995), bipartisan legislation he joined Congressman Eliot Engel (NY-16) in introducing, out of committee. H.R. 4995 contains the text of bipartisan legislation, the Excellence in Maternal Health Act (H.R. 4215), that Dr. Bucshon introduced with fellow Hoosier Congressman Andre Carson (IN-07) As a physician and a father of four, I understand the importance of ensuring the health of mothers during pregnancy and after the delivery of newborns, said Dr. Bucshon. This is a critical time for both the mother and the child as a new life is brought into the world. Indiana has an unacceptably highmaternalmortalityrate state-wide, ranking third in the country. We must do better in our approach across the entire nation, especially in rural America, to use best practices and provide necessary resources to stop preventable maternal mortality. I believe this bipartisan legislation will benefit patients and communities that are currently struggling by providing them with the support and training they so desperately need, and by helping ensure that women in rural areas can have access to maternal health providers. Helping more mothers celebrate their child's first birthday through better healthcare is a critical part of my Next Level agenda. I am grateful to have federal partners, and Congressmen Bucshon and Carson's leadership dedicated to tackling this issue, and I'm confident we can work together to help Hoosier moms and babies achieve better health outcomes. Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb Background The Maternal Health Quality Improvement combines the provisions of the following bipartisan bills: The Excellence in Maternal Health Act (H.R. 4215), introduced by Congressmen Bucshon and Carson, which authorizes grants to identify, develop, and disseminate maternal health quality best practices, supports training for heal… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

U.S. Representatives Greg Pence (R-IN-06) and Mark Meadows (R-NC-11), introduced legislation to bring fair market practices into federal real estate, potentially saving billions of taxpayer dollars. U.S. Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Gary Peters (D-MI) introduced companion legislation in the U.S. Senate. H.R. 5137 provides the General Services Administration (GSA) with the ability to negotiate a discounted or fixed price option on government leases moving forward. The bill seeks to transform how the government approaches federal real estate by giving GSA the ability to leverage their bargaining power upfront, saving billions of dollars and reducing government waste. With our nation's infrastructure broken and too often ignored by Congress, I am committed to putting common-sense options on the table that save billions of taxpayer dollars, reduce government waste, and free up money to invest in our crumbling roads and more, said Congressman Pence. Sensible legislation like this has the potential to save over $5 billion taxpayer dollars by bringing fair market practices to federal real estate. Hoosiers deserve an efficient government that can meet our 21st Century infrastructure needs. Forcing agencies to lease property when ownership would be more cost-effective is a counter-intuitive policy that blatantly wastes money from hard-working taxpayers. This is a common sense reform that would save millions of the American people's money - an opportunity Congress should take whenever we get the chance. I thank my colleagues Congressman Pence and Senator Lankford for their work on this important bill, and I look forward to supporting it moving forward, said Congressman Meadows. With our US national debt nearing $23 trillion, we should take commonsense steps to ensure the federal government is not wasting taxpayers' dollars, said Senator Lankford. We should allow for flexibility and innovation to save valuable taxpayers' dollars instead of forcing agencies to lease, when ownership at times would be … | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z

Lugar INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) today hosted a ceremony with U.S. Navy Secretary Richard V. Spencer announcing the Navy's intent to name a guided-missile destroyer in honor of Senator Richard G. Lugarat the Indiana War Memorial in Indianapolis. The future warship will be namedUSS RICHARD G.LUGAR. Senator Young was joined by the Lugar family and members of the Indiana delegation for the event. When Senator Richard Lugar passed away in April of this year, Indiana and the entire country lost a great statesman. It was clear to me in the days after his passing that our country needed to do something significant in his memory that recognizes his legacy as a Navy veteran, a public servant, and Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Senator Young.Today, we announced such a tribute. A future Naval guided-missile destroyer will now be named in his honor. Senator Lugar dedicated his life to his country, first through service in the U.S. Navy then through service in Congress, said U.S. Navy Secretary Richard V. Spencer.I am honored to name a future Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer after him. It is fitting this class of ship should bear Senator Lugar's name, just as he served under Admiral Burke in life. This ship and her crew will continue his legacy of service, safeguarding the safety and security of America and her allies all over the world. On behalf of the entire Lugar family we are beyond grateful to Senator Young, Senator Braun, and U.S. Navy Secretary Spencer for their leadership that has brought us together for this wonderful occasion. Knowing that someday the brave women and men of the United States Navy shall set sail on the USS Richard G. Lugar to serve and protect the United States of America is an incredible way to honor our father's legacy of public service to our country. He would be so humbled but also so proud at this moment. | https://bucshon.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=3717 | Dr. Bucshon Votes Against House Democrats’ Partisan Export-Import Bank Reauthorization | 2019-11-15 | 2019 | 2019-11 | Republican | House | IN | Larry Bucshon | B001275 | bucshon.house.gov | legacy | (Washington, D.C.) Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after voting against House Democrats' partisan legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank of the United States (H.R. 4863): The Export-Import Bank is an important tool that helps support American jobs including many jobs in the Eighth District of Indiana by enabling our manufacturers selling American-made products abroad to compete on a more level playing field with our foreign competitors. The Bank enjoys strong bipartisan support for its mission to support American exports and jobs, and House Republicans negotiated in good faith with House Democrats and agreed to a bipartisan bill to reauthorize the Bank. Yet, House Democrats have chosen to play politics with the livelihood of Hoosiers whose jobs are supported by the Bank and walked away from this deal. Instead of passing a bipartisan reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank that can pass the Senate and be signed into law by President Trump, House Democrats have chosen to force a vote on a bill that the Senate will not take up and that President Trump has said he will veto. This partisan bill has no path forward because House Democrats saddled it with the creation of massive bureaucracy and burdensome regulation that would negate the purpose and efficiency of the program. Furthermore, they removed commonsense protections that prevent U.S. tax dollars from subsidizing Chinese government-controlled entities. While I support the Export-Import Bank and want to vote to reauthorize it, I cannot support House Democrats' partisan reauthorization. Background Dr. Bucshon co-sponsored an amendment to H.R. 4863 which would simply extend the authorization of the Export-Import Bank for an additional 10-years under its current structure. President Trump supports this approach to reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank. Dr. Bucshon signed a discharge petition to bring up the bipartisan,… | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
