Nunn’s amendment creates a new pilot program empowering states to lead water quality improvement projects in areas facing high nitrogen and phosphorus levels—areas like Iowa that urgently need targeted solutions.

“Every family deserves peace of mind when they turn on the tap,” said Rep. Nunn. “In Iowa, rivers that supply drinking water for hundreds of thousands of people have recorded dangerously high nitrate levels. Iowa is currently experiencing one of its worst nitrate pollution seasons in recent years. Nitrate levels in the Raccoon River recently reached twice the federal limit. In total, more than 600 water segments statewide are classified as polluted under Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. Health experts warn that elevated nitrate exposure in drinking water can contribute to blue baby syndrome in infants, increased risk of cancer in adults, and health complications for pregnant women.

Rep. Nunn’s amendment establishes a voluntary EPA pilot program to streamline coordination between state and federal agencies on water-quality projects in nitrogen- or phosphorus-impaired watersheds. The program is strictly state-led, voluntary for producers, and does not expand federal authority, ensuring Iowa retains control over local conservation priorities.

A 2023 national survey conducted by the University of Maryland found that 86% of Americans support banning stock trading by Members of Congress.

While serving in the Iowa state legislature, Rep. Nunn vowed not to trade stocks that would have a conflict of interest at the state level.

Navigating college can be difficult for pregnant students. In many cases, women feel pressured to end their pregnancies or risk academic failure, despite protections.

Under Title IX, pregnant students already have the right to stay in school, finish their education, and achieve their career goals.

Almost 30 percent of all abortions in the United States are performed on women of college age, between the ages of 20 and 24, according to 2022 data reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

These college age women may be unaware of their rights to accommodation and prohibitions against discrimination due to pregnancy under title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. 1681 et seq.) or deprived of information about abortion alternatives.

Pregnant students who choose to carry to term often face academic disparities due to limited resources, support, and protections.

Research and personal testimonies show that many women feel conflicted or pressured into abortion, and studies have linked abortion to increased risks of mental health struggles, substance use, and medical complications. These studies show that:

Background:

Child care affordability is a crisis for America’s workforce and is a women’s and family issue. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates states lose $1 billion per year in economic activity due to a lack of affordable and accessible child care. The same study also found that absences and employee turnover, which often stem from a lack of child care, cost employers between $400 million and $3 billion a year.

A solution to the affordability crisis for families and the workforce shortage crisis is a dedicated, tax-advantaged savings program to set aside tax-free income to be used for qualified child care expenses.

A 529 plan allows individuals to use invested dollars to pay for qualified education-related expenses.

Originally intended to assist with higher education, 529 plans were expanded in recent years to also cover K-12 and apprenticeship programs.

Specifically, the Early Education Savings Program Act:

Expands 529 savings programs to cover qualified child care expenses, allowing parents to use tax-free income on child care.

Qualified child care is defined as child care provided by a State-licensed, regulated, or registered center-based child care provider, family child care provider, or another provider of child care services that is not an individual related to all children for whom care is provided.

Establishes that the designated beneficiary must be under 5 years old.

Does not put a cap on contributions or balances used for child care expenses within these accounts.

On November 13, 2025, President Trump signed an Executive Order launching the Fostering the Future initiative, which directs federal agencies to improve access to training, apprenticeships, and career support for foster youth. Rep. Nunn’s bill codifies and expands that initiative by:

Directing the Departments of Health and Human Services and Labor to conduct a nationwide study of current workforce and apprenticeship programs for foster youth. The study will evaluate program effectiveness, identify gaps, and recommend improvements to expand career pathways.

But currently, there is no requirement to explain how much the full cost of a loan would be when considering interest,” said Rep. Feenstra. “That’s why I introduced legislation to provide students with an estimate of how much they would pay in interest over the term of their loan. This fix will help keep students out of mountains of unsustainable debt while ensuring that the next generation can chase their dreams and pursue fulfilling educational opportunities.”

“Students and their families deserve to know exactly what they’re taking on to make informed financial decisions about their education,” said Rep. Current law does not require the disclosure of the total interest amount that a student loan applicant would pay based on the applicable repayment plan.

As a result, many students are not aware of the actual amount they will end up paying over the life of a loan. The STUDENT Act makes the disclosure of the total interest amount required during or before an applicant takes out a loan.

Background:

The PRECISE Act incentivizes private sector financing through programs like the Conservation Loan and Guaranteed Loan Programs and increases cost share and practice payments under EQIP and CSP for the purchase of precision agriculture technology.

The PRECISE Act will also fund precision agriculture projects through joint participation of conservation cost-share programs and the Conservation Loan Program.

Precision agriculture increases crop yields while lowering overall inputs and environmental impacts. The expansion of affordable precision agriculture technologies and applications has the potential to substantially increase crop yields, improve distribution, and reduce input costs, all while lowering emissions and preventing soil degradation.

She noted that the American people overwhelmingly support a stock-trading ban and that passing one would be a major step toward rebuilding faith in Congress.

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-02) released the following statement on the passage of a bipartisan Continuing Resolution (CR), as well as a package of several Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) appropriations bills—including Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (MilCon-VA), Legislative Branch, and Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration (Ag-FDA). Hinson secured key investments for Iowa in this package.

This legislation included funding Rep. Hinson secured for several projects in Iowa’s Second Congressional District.

$1,000,000 for the Aplington Protective Services Building: This project will fund a new facility for Aplington’s Fire and EMS departments, replacing a severely outdated building, to provide adequate space for vehicles and gear, dedicated decontamination areas, and training and office space to better serve the city and surrounding rural communities.

$4,000,000 for the Belle Plaine Drinking Water Resiliency Project: This project will support upgrades to the City of Belle Plaine’s drinking water infrastructure to provide clean, reliable, and abundant drinking water to Belle Plaine’s residents.

$265,451 for the Dysart Public Works Maintenance Facility Renovation: This project will support the construction of a new public works facility to safely hold equipment for the City of Dysart to support water treatment efforts, road maintenance, and snow removal.

$1,000,000 for the Grinnell Regional Medical Center Labor and Delivery Unit Expansion: These funds will support the expansion of the Grinnell Regional Medical Center’s labor and delivery unit, increasing their delivery capacity to meet the demands of the rural six-county region that the hospital serves.

$700,000 for the WinnMed Surgical Department Upgrade: This project will equip WinnMed with state-of-the-art surgical technology to expand access to safe, minimally invasive surgeries in rural Iowa, reducing the need for residents to travel long distances for care.

Every year on Veterans Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who answered the call to serve our nation. Their unrelenting courage, sacrifice, and devotion to protecting our freedom represent the very best of America and have shaped our history. This day is not only about gratitude and reflection; it’s about commitment to those who have put their lives on the line for this country.

Often, the toughest battles begin after service ends. Sergeant Brandon Ketchum, an Iowa Marine who served two tours of duty overseas, struggled with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) upon his return. After being turned away from a local VA hospital when he sought treatment, Sergeant Ketchum tragically took his own life.

That’s why I led bipartisan legislation — signed into law in 2021 — to ensure veterans can access the emergency mental health resources they need when they need them. Sergeant Ketchum’s story reminds us of what’s at stake when bureaucracy stands in the way. No veteran should ever be denied care when seeking help, and mental health must be treated with the same urgency and seriousness as physical well-being.

But too many veterans still face red tape and stigma when they reach out for support. In my office, we work every day to cut through that bureaucracy. Recently, we helped a veteran who was struggling to find a nearby VA clinic for routine blood work. Our team worked with the VA to connect him to a closer facility, allowing him to receive care without the extra burden of driving hours away from home. Another veteran came to us needing help navigating the VA system for his glasses, and we were able to help him get what he needed. These small victories matter deeply to our veterans.

We’ve also made critical progress in expanding presumptive conditions for toxic exposures and service-connected illnesses. Earlier this year, I helped introduce bipartisan legislation to ensure veterans diagnosed with glioblastoma — a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer — receive proper care.

This bill was inspired by outreach from Linda Smith of Independence, Iowa, who shared the story of her husband, Specialist Fourth Class Keith Smith, who tragically lost his life to glioblastoma after being exposed to Agent Orange while serving in Vietnam. Since glioblastoma isn’t recognized as a toxic exposure condition, Spc. Smith couldn’t access his benefits. This legislation, named in his honor, ensures veterans exposed to toxic substances receive the care they deserve.

Our work honors their sacrifice — and pays it forward for the next generation of heroes.

As part of this deal, China will immediately purchase 12 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans and another 25 million metric tons annually. Bangladesh also agreed to buy $1 billion worth of U.S. soybeans, ensuring that our high-quality farm products have markets across the globe. Furthermore, President Trump has also made trade deals with Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the United Kingdom. Japan will buy $8 billion worth of U.S. agricultural goods and Taiwan will buy $10 billion worth of our farm products, both of which include Iowa corn and soybeans, while the U.K. will purchase $750 million of U.S. ethanol and $250 million of U.S. beef. Vietnam will specifically buy $800 million of Iowa agricultural products, including corn and soybeans. President Trump will continue to open export markets and deliver for agriculture.

As part of President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts, we secured many important provisions beneficial to Iowa farmers and producers. We increased the death tax exemption to $15 million, doubled 179 expensing to help farmers finance equipment purchases, and made permanent the 20% deduction on qualified business income for family farms and small businesses. We also made crop insurance more affordable at higher levels of coverage, increased reference prices for corn from $3.70 to $4.10 and for soybeans from $8.40 to $10, and invested in foreign animal disease prevention and response. Now, I am focused on getting a new, five-year Farm Bill passed and signed into law to deliver relief and certainty for our producers. Drake University Head Start Visit, Des Moines, Polk County

Rep. Nunn visited the Drake University Head Start program in Des Moines to tour classrooms and meet with staff, families, and program faculty. While the Drake program is currently funded, Rep. Nunn heard firsthand how the ongoing shutdown is creating instability for Head Start centers across the country—including two in Iowa—as federal grants run out, potentially impacting more than 65,000 children.

The visit came just weeks after Nunn received the National Head Start Association’s PROMISE Award for his leadership in early childhood education and robust support for Head Start programs.

“Head Start is a lifeline for Iowa kids and working parents,” said Rep. Nunn. “I appreciate the Drake faculty’s advocacy not just for their own students, but for the hundreds of Iowa families at risk of losing access if the shutdown continues.”

“While Drake University Head Start is not currently impacted by the shutdown and we’re grateful to continue serving families, we recognize we’re among the fortunate,” said Drake Head Start Director Lisa Proctor. “Across the nation, hundreds of programs—including two in Iowa—are at risk of closure without federal funding. Head Start provides more than preschool; it offers families education, nutrition, childcare, and stability. Small Business and Local Leaders Roundtable, Adel, Dallas County

Rep. Nunn hosted a small business roundtable at the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office in Adel, bringing together representatives from the Greater Des Moines Partnership, the Greater Dallas County Development Alliance, and city leaders from Adel, Waukee, Clive, Urbandale, and Van Meter.

Participants shared how delayed federal approvals, frozen grant programs, and stalled permitting processes are disrupting both small businesses and local governments. Business leaders emphasized the cascading impact of the shutdown on project timelines, workforce stability, and long-term investments in the region.

Meeting and Food Drop-Off with Dallas County Sheriff, Adel, Dallas County

Rep. Nunn visited the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office to drop off lunch for deputies and sit down with Sheriff Adam Infante and members of the sheriff’s leadership team. The conversation opened with a discussion of how the government shutdown is impacting public safety operations, including delays in federal grant applications and law enforcement programs that many fast-growing counties like Dallas rely on.

“Law enforcement shouldn’t have to worry about delayed federal support while they’re working overtime to keep our communities safe,” said Rep. Nunn. “I’m grateful to Sheriff Infante and his team for their leadership. Even in the face of shutdown disruptions, they’re focused on protecting Iowans and tackling real threats like financial scams head-on.”

Sheriff Infante and his team also raised growing concerns about the rise in sophisticated scam activity targeting seniors and working families. Rep. WayPoint Resources Food Pantry Tour, Waukee, Dallas County

Rep. Nunn ended the day with a visit to WayPoint Resources, a local food pantry in Waukee, to speak with staff and volunteers about how the ongoing government shutdown is affecting vulnerable families across Iowa. More than 130,000 Iowa households rely on SNAP, and with the program only partially funded, food pantries across Iowa have already seen an increase in demand.

WayPoint staff also underscored that while the shutdown is raising anxiety for families, the community has stepped up to help fill the gap in powerful ways. However, while new volunteers signing up to help and more donations from local partners make a difference, no amount of local goodwill can replace federal programs like SNAP.

“When Washington falls short, Iowa steps up,” said Rep. Nunn. “But we can’t expect food pantries to carry the full burden. We need to end the shutdown and restore certainty for every family counting on these programs.”

“The current pause in SNAP benefits is an urgent local issue.,” said Waypoint Resources Executive Director Melissa Stimple. “Families who’ve never needed help before are walking through our doors every day.
