Instead of building on those successful policies, the Biden Administration chose to reinstate failed catch and release policies that ignore the statutory requirement that illegal aliens be detained while their asylum claims are pending. Catch and release is incentivizing historic levels of illegal immigration, stretching Border Patrol resources thin, and making our communities unsafe. My legislation restores integrity in our immigration system by explicitly prohibiting DHS from paroling or otherwise releasing illegal aliens into the country. DHS can either detain the illegal alien or require them to remain outside the United States while their claim is pending. We must maintain operational control of the southern border and this legislation gets us closer to that,” said Congressman Andy Biggs.

“Millions of illegal aliens have been released into the U.S. interior under President Biden, many without even a court date to hear their asylum claim. And because the immigration courts are so backlogged (a situation exacerbated by Biden’s purge of Immigration Judges who do not conform to open-borders advocates’ dogma), even those with a date will typically not appear for years. This gives illegal aliens time to disappear into society and, in too many cases, strain public budgets, depress wages, and spike crime rates. Recent government statistics show half of those with pending claims fail to appear, and this rate is likely to climb. Congressman Andy Biggs understands the harm of so-called “catch and release” policies, and with this bill, he’s taking action to stop it. The Ending Catch and Release Act would prohibit the Department of Homeland Security from releasing asylum-seekers into the U.S. interior and codify President Trump’s successful “Remain in Mexico” policy to ensure those arriving from Mexico wait in that country for their claim to be adjudicated. We urge passage of this bill to enhance public safety, national security, and relieve the strain on our entire immigration system,”said Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) president Dan Stein.

“DHS Secretary Mayorkas’ catch-and-release policy, and his abuse of parole authority, have created the largest border surge on record, with no end in sight. Mayorkas clearly does not care that his policies are harming American communities, expanding human and drug trafficking networks, and enriching the cartels. NumbersUSA applauds Congressman Biggs for introducing the Ending Catch and Release Act to rein in Mayorkas’ abuses and give him no choice but to implement the unambiguous language of the bill. Dr. C.T. Wright graduated with a B.S. from Fort Valley State University before earning his M.A. from Clark Atlanta University and his PhD from Boston University. As both a teacher and administrator, Dr. Wright was passionate educator, bringing his expertise to many of the country’s historically black colleges. In the years following his time teaching, Dr. Wright shifted his focus more broadly to help with human rights. He was the founder of Light of Hope Institute. For the last 21 years of his life, Dr. Wright was a resident of Arizona. As a figurehead in the local community, he served in several capacities, including Chairman of the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency; member of the Fountain Hills Unified School District Governing Board; President of the Fountain Hills Kiwanis Club; and President of the Arizona African Society.

This legislation would make permanent key tax relief and simplification measures that were enacted in the historic 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) legislation and is supported by many Ways and Means Committee Republicans.

“By making these key temporary tax cuts permanent, we will provide clarity to individuals and businesses filing their taxes in the coming years,” said Rep. Schweikert. “These reforms are pro-worker, pro-small business and pro-simplification. It is imperative that we provide certainty in our tax code. These reforms will make our economy more prosperous and solidify the successes we’ve seen since passing TCJA.”

Background

The PERCENTS Act will rescue taxpayers by making key temporary reforms permanent:

Permanent Individual Tax Rate Reduction: Locking in the rate cuts encourages individuals to work and allows for workers to keep more of their paychecks, all while helping small businesses struggling to grow after the Pandemic.

Permanent Super-sized Standard Deduction: Taxpayers choose between itemizing a simple standard deduction or itemizing a series of more complex deductions with recordkeeping burdens. TCJA made choosing the standard deduction simpler by nearly doubling the standard deduction.

Permanent Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) Relief: The AMT forces taxpayers to calculate their taxes under two different tax systems and usually pay a much higher amount. TCJA dramatically increased the AMT exemption so that only the most affluent taxpayers would be ensnared by the AMT.

Permanent Repeal of the “Pease” Limit on Itemized Deductions: Middle-income taxpayers who itemize deductions were often trapped by a stealth tax that would slash those deductions by up to 80% under a complex formula. TCJA temporarily suspended this arbitrary limit on the deductions related to gifts to charity, mortgage interest, medical expenses and even state and local taxes. This legislation permanently repeals that limit.

It is reflected in U.S. v. Cooper where she reduced a sentence for a person who downloaded and distributed more than 600 images of child porn including sadomasochistic images of infants and toddlers.

And the litany of instances of Judge Jackson’s protection of pedophiles and pornographers is pervasive. In fact, it was in every case that came before her involving child pornography.

Republicans have requested that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Durbin make documents concerning these cases available, but he refuses. One wonders what is in those files that Durbin is withholding.

Judge Jackson is dangerous to the Constitution. She places Critical Race Theory on the same plane as the Constitution. She has supported the discredited 1619 Project. Her position indicates that she accepts the misguided notion that America is systemically and irredeemably racist. That kind of idea is promoted by those who believe that the Constitution is “garbage.” How can she apply a Constitution that she believes is hopelessly flawed to the cases that come before her?

Judge Jackson is a danger to women. One reason President Biden nominated Judge Jackson is because she is a “black woman.” Senator Marsha Blackburn, (R-Tenn.) referred to a decision written by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg that stated, “Physical differences between men and women … are enduring.”

Senator Blackburn asked if Jackson could define “woman.” Jackson’s response that she couldn’t define a woman because she isn’t a biologist demonstrates a certain radical point of view. It isn’t a view shared by most Americans, even those who aren’t biologists.

What’s more troubling is that Senator Blackburn’s entire line of questioning was predicated upon case precedent. Jackson’s facile answer demonstrates that she cannot be taken seriously as one who can understand the Constitution and correctly apply it to cases before the Court.

She has the same difficulty defining when life begins. One wonders how she can ever decide on an issue without a biologist by her side.

Judge Jackson ought not to be confirmed.

Her judicial temperament and her radical view demonstrate that she will not uphold the Constitution, but will, rather, undermine the Constitution.

Current Federal law requires gun purchases from dealers to fill out form 4473, which are stored by dealers for 20 years thereby preventing the ATF from accessing the information in the future. 18 USC § 923(g)(4) requires out of business dealers to provide Out of Business Records (OBRs) to the Department of J ustice. 18 U.S.C § 926 prohibits the ATF from creating and/or maintaining a firearm registry. The Biden administration is moving to alter current laws to ensure that gun records are transferred and stored in perpetuity to a facility owned, managed, or controlled by the federal government. Background

The recent surge in fentanyl entering the United States has created an out-right crisis, with drug overdoses reaching record high numbers between May 2020 and April 2021. This lethal synthetic opioid has been proven to be more powerful than both morphine and heroin, becoming the number cause of overdose deaths in the past year.

Currently, fentanyl related substances still fall under a temporarily classified Schedule 1 drug classification. This Schedule 1 Classification is set to expire when government funding expires on March 11, 2022. This letter requests that the classification for fentanyl related substances is made permanent, to ensure there is no medical benefit for these type of drugs.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-06) and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) applauded the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for their $4.5 million investment to establish Valley Fever research centers across the United States.

“The top priority for the Valley Fever Task Force is to secure research funding that will get us closer to beating Valley Fever for good,” said Congressman Schweikert. “Along with my Co-Chair, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, we have worked tirelessly towards that goal. I know that we have a long way to go in the fight to end Valley Fever once and for all, and this funding for new research is a great leap forward.”

“For years we have been working to mitigate and stamp out Valley Fever,” said Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. “With Valley Fever cases continuing to rise, this funding comes at a critical time, and I am glad to see that Dr. Royce Johnson and the Valley Fever Institute, will be involved in these research efforts. I am thankful to my Co-Chair, Representative Schweikert, for working with me on this issue throughout the years and the NIH for devoting resources to eradicate Valley Fever.”

“Since Arizona is the source of nearly two-thirds of all U.S. Valley fever infections, we applaud the increasing attention that these awards bring to this very important public health and economic problem,” said Dr. John Galgiani from the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson. “It complements the ongoing activities of the University of Arizona’s Valley Fever Center for Excellence and the recently begun Valley Fever Collaborative between its three state universities, and we look forward to working closely with the new Coccidioidomycosis Collaborative Research Centers that the NIH has now created.”

Background

In 2020, Representative’s Schweikert and McCarthy sent a letter to the NIH urging this funding proposal in order to better combat Valley Fever. The proposed research centers will focus on increasing collaboration in investigating diagnostics, treatments, and vaccines.

My bill would have given states the option for federal education dollars to follow students to alternative education options, such as private schools, charter schools, homeschooling, or private tutoring.
