Louisiana is still reeling. Lawmakers say these flood events may as well have been overlapping. One local congressman wants the Federal government to take on more of the cost from the March flood that affected thousands. "We’re talking literally tens of thousands of dollars for each business and homeowner," said Congressman Ralph Abraham (R-LA). While the state continues to recover from recent flooding, Abraham wants to reduce the cost on his constituents from flooding that took place in March. As of now, Louisianans are paying 25 percent of the recovery costs. He wants that reduced to 10 percent. He thinks the flood was underreported despite tens of thousands being affected. "All flood victims need to be treated equally," said Abraham. "This relief package needs to be equitable throughout the March and August flood victims." The Congressman met with Administration officials and he says he’s optimistic that the White House will come around to his proposal. "It could be a matter or difference of just throwing the keys up and saying, ‘I’m walking away. (I) can’t afford my cost-share.’ Or saying, ‘Hey, I’m going to make this happen. I’m going to give it another go and stay in Louisiana,'" said Abraham. The White House wasn’t immediately available for comment. Abraham says he will address a follow-up letter to President Obama personally this week. This as Abraham is working with other Louisiana lawmakers to secure an additional $2.8 billion in aid from Congress. To read the full story click here. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
