https://abraham.house.gov/media-center/in-the-news/la-gov-rep-ralph-abraham-r-will-run-governor LA-Gov: Rep. Ralph Abraham (R) will run for Governor 2018-12-07 2018 2018-12 Republican House LA Ralph Abraham A000374 abraham.house.gov     legacy As expected, Rep. Ralph Abraham (R) has announced he will take on Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) next year. Abraham is a physician and veterinarian who has been a back-bench conservative in the House for two terms. He has represented a deep-red seat in the northeast part of the state, and is the biggest of several names who had been considering the race. Abraham's lane became a lot more open this week after the strongest potential GOP rival, Sen. John N. Kennedy (R), bowed out of the race. Sharon Hewitt (R), and (possibly self-funding) businessman Eddie Rispone (R) are also considering bids (or in Rispone's case already declared). If Abraham wins, it will trigger a special election for LA-5, which he won in 2014 by ousting kissing congressman Vance McAllister (R). The seat is an R+15 seat covering much of the state's northeast, including Monroe, Alexandria, and a large amount of rural territory. The seat also contains a bizarrely-shaped (but culturally-similar) arm along the Missisippi border through the rural northern Florida Parishes.
