Abraham, a Republican, andRichmond, a Democrat, introduced thebipartisan "High School Football Safety Study Act''Thursday. Rep. Bobby Rush, a Democrat from Illinois, is a co-sponsor. There is no Senate companion bill yet. The legislation would require the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with Education Secretary Arne Duncan andthe Presidents Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition, to study the causes offootball-related deaths.The study, due a year from the bills enactment, would include recommendations for improvingsafety and preventing deaths. This bill will seek the root causes of such incidents so that we can better protect our children while preserving the game we love," said Abraham.
