"Republicans have fought since July, when Speaker Nancy Pelosi proposed the most partisan defense authorization bill in history, to remove its harmful poison pills and produce a bipartisan agreement that fully supports our military and their families,"said Abraham."The final version gives our troops their largest pay raise in a decade, maintains a top line budget of $738 billion to rebuild our readiness, and contains a number of provisions whose aim is to improve Louisiana's various military installations including Camp Beauregard, Barksdale AFB, Fort Polk, and Belle Chasse. The annual NDAA represents a more than 50 year history of putting our troops first, and I'm proud of what we've been able to accomplish this year despite HouseDemocrats ignoring the needs of our men and women in uniform in order to pursue a yearlong campaign to impeach the President." Louisiana-specific provisions: The 2020NDAA authorizes $16.5 million in emergency funding for damages to Camp Beauregard from anOctober 2018 tornado. It authorizes $25.26 million in funding for facilities at Belle Chasse. It authorizes funding for modernization of B-52 aircraft housed at Barksdale AFB. It improves housing for our service members at Fort Polk, Barksdale, and Belle Chasse. Military-wide provisions: The 2020 NDAA repealsthe harmfulwidows tax. It provides a 3.1% pay raise for our troops, the largest increase in a decade. It continues to improve our security and readiness with a top line budgetof $738 billion. It creates the Space Force as the first new branch of the military since 1947. Harmful provisions removed: Their original version from July would have blocked the President from building the wall on our southern border. It would have allowed prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay to be transferred to U.S. soil. It would have hurt our nuclear modernization by banning low-yield nuclear weapons, which are being developed by our adversaries.
