The letter urged Republican leadership to prioritize measures that create a pathway for the middle class, make education affordable, safeguard retirement investments, promote entrepreneurship, and protect cultural institutions. Rep. Adams authored the letter after conversing with district stakeholders such as higher education institutions, the city of Charlotte, and Mecklenburg County. Due to the secrecy under which the bill’s authors wrote the legislation and the decision to block amendments, representatives who do not sit on the Ways and Means Committee were not afforded an opportunity to participate in crafting a comprehensive policy. There have also been no scheduled public hearings or time for floor debate on this legislation. “This plan is a one-sided measure that provides cuts for corporations on the backs of the middle-class,” said Congresswoman Adams. “Millions of hardworking families and local businesses need real tax relief but the GOP plan falls short. House Republicans have failed to hear American taxpayers so today I authored a letter to Speaker Ryan and Chairman Brady outlining Mecklenburg County’s expectations for this bill. We cannot afford the partisan antics that have plagued this conversation any longer.” 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
