The amendment would apply a “Buy American” preference to the State Revolving Loan Fund for water and wastewater infrastructure. The amendment was adopted by voice vote. “The common sense amendment I offered today would simply require that all water and wastewater infrastructure projects funded through the State Revolving Loan Fund be made with American produced iron and steel products,” said Aderholt. “I think most Americans agree that their taxpayer dollars should be supporting American products, American workers and American jobs, not our foreign competitors who refuse to open their markets to American goods." "To those that say Buy American is not 'free trade,' this amendment includes a provision for countries that have free trade agreement with the United States, their product will receive the same treatment as an American made one. American businesses can compete with anyone, anywhere in the world but not when foreign markets are closed to them." “Therefore, this amendment would act as an incentive for other countries to open their markets to American products, ultimately creating an opportunity for further economic growth, that means job creation here at home.
