Aderholt A000055 aderholt.house.gov aderholt https://aderholt.house.gov/media-center/press-releases scraper WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04), today released a statement concerning the expected influx of passport renewals in the coming months. "2016 will mark the 10th anniversary of the ‘Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.' This was a measure put in place after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. It requires a passport for U. S. Citizens traveling to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Before the act was put in place, a valid drivers license was all that was required. In early 2006, as the law went into place, many people across the country had booked vacation plans but were not aware of the new passport requirements. As you can imagine, many people had to apply for expedited passports. "It has now been 10 years since these new requirements went into effect. Passports must be renewed every 10 years as well, so many of those people who got their first passports back in 2006 will soon need to have their passports renewed. Since the United States Department of State expects a surge in passport renewal applications, I encourage people to get out their passports and check the expiration date. "Passports can easily be renewed. Simply visit https://travel.state.gov for more information. If you have any questions or my staff and I can assist in any way, please give one of our district offices a call. Thank you and it is my honor to serve you in Washington." In Washington Congressman Aderholt serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies for the powerful House Appropriations Committee; he is also a member of the Committee's Defense Subcommittee, the Committee's Commerce, Justice, and Science Subcommittee, and the Helsinki Commission. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-08T20:33:33Z
