The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for America. This year’s observance was themed “One Nation Under God.” “The strong faith of our founding fathers guided them as they led our country in its beginning and it is important that faith in God leads even today,” said Aderholt. “This nation is great because our founding fathers committed to prayer and the principles of their faith and it’s important for America to remember our heritage. Days of prayer have a long-standing and significant history in the United States and I am honored to be a part of that tradition again this year.” Speakers at this year’s service included Dr. David Jeremiah, Bishop Harry Jackson, Judge Reggie Walton, Representative Randy Forbes, Mrs. Vonette Bright, Rear Admiral Michael Parks, and Chaplain Colonel Thomas Waynick. The National Day of Prayer was officially created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
