This decision follows a communique sent to Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke, calling for protection of Texan’s voting rights. It was signed by more than 60 Texas officials. The letter highlights the alarming purge of over 1.1 million individuals from Texas' voter rolls in the 90 days before a federal election, conducted under the National Voter Registration Act. It also raises concerns related to possible efforts by the Texas Attorney General’s office to intimidate a candidate for public office as well as threaten and discourage voter registration activists.
