It will address long-standing issues everyday Americans face with respect to our nation’s aging physical infrastructure. This bill, which authorizes $1.2 trillion to be invested in infrastructure projects over the course of the next eight years, is an overdue investment in our country’s roads, bridges, ports, rail, power grids, and more. In addition to providing funding for public transit, airport repairs, and climate change mitigation, this bill also provides $57 billion for safe drinking water lines, $7.5 billion to build a national network of electric vehicle charging stations, and allocates $65 billion to ensure broadband internet access for all Americans,” stated Congressman Al Green. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which is a part of President Biden’s Build Back Better domestic agenda, passed the House today with a vote of 228-206. The bill came to the House after it was passed in the Senate on Tuesday, August 10 with a vote of 69-30. “This bill contains provisions that are vital to my constituents, the greater Houston-area, and to Texans across the state. Houston is famous for being a hurricane-prone zone. Having adequate, up-to-date infrastructure to mitigate damage from flooding around the city is essential to its functionality and the safety of its residents.
