Allen (R-GA-12) today released the following statement after voting in support of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which passed the House of Representatives 385 to 41:President Trump made a promise to the American people to renegotiate a trade deal that modernizes our trade policies, levels the playing field for our farmers and ranchers, and puts America first. Last year, he made good on that promise through the USMCA. It was then on Congress to ratify this vital trade deal, but like most things in Washington, it turned political. Unfortunately, Democrats delayed passage and tried to add billions in wasteful spending to benefit special interests all while using impeachment as a distraction. But President Trump and Republican leadership kept fighting.Under this new deal, we are expected to see a major boost to our economy including over $68 billion in new economic activity, 176,000 new American jobs and over $2 billion in agriculture exports with our North American neighbors.For the past year we have warned House Democrats of the urgency of getting this done and while I am disappointed it took so long, I am proud that today we were finally able to deliver this long overdue win for the American people.
