Allen (GA-12) today released the following statement after voting for House passage of the Fiscal Year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the annual bill that authorizes defense spending and sets priorities for America’s military: “Our military must be prepared to fight and win at any given moment, and Congress has a duty to ensure our service members are equipped with the resources necessary to keep Americans safe. While the bill is not perfect, it authorizes a boost to overall defense spending, a pay raise for our troops, and vital funding for Georgia’s 12th District, including for Fort Gordon and the Savannah River Site. “As we face both the immediate and long-term geopolitical consequences of Biden’s failure in Afghanistan, this bill authorizes $250 million to conduct critical counterterrorism operations in Afghanistan, including requiring the Department of Defense to submit a plan to Congress on how it will support the evacuation of American citizens, maintain air superiority, and run intelligence and surveillance missions. Further, the bill includes strong provisions to counter our adversaries like Russia, China and Iran. “It is my hope we can ensure partisan provisions are excluded in the final Conference Report as the NDAA moves through the legislative process, and instead focus on passing a bill that prioritizes our military and national security.” Background: The House and Senate will now go to a Conference Committee to resolve bicameral differences in the NDAA, and a vote on the final Conference Report is expected later this year. | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T20:17:01Z |
