You have to marvel at the consistency in the Senate. When it comes to anything of importance, anything resembling a transparent process is extinct in terms of how issues get debated, brought to the floor and passed. After a few weeks of closed-door negotiations by a special group, a bill is brought to the floor, passed, and sent over to Nancy Pelosi’s House of Representatives. “While there are some good policy ideas contained in the so-called Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, we are unfortunately at a time when trust in the top ranks of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ), who remain constantly focused on political agendas, is at zero. Support for bills which require trust in these entities and treat the Second Amendment casually is not justified. Further, at first glance, the Active Shooter Alert Act looked innocuous, but when you rely upon grants which are administered by the DOJ, what you are going to get is a continued assault on the Second Amendment by Merrick Garland and Joe Biden. While we are always in support of our law enforcement professionals, this is one of those times where experience tells us that expectations will get overruled by partisan political agendas. “Along those same lines, school safety and juvenile background inquiries are things that I think a lot of people could probably get behind. It is worth also noting, earlier this week the House passed H.R. 7666 – The Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act, on a bipartisan basis, which will provide critical grants to help address mental health problems across the nation, substance abuse disorders, and suicide prevention, especially amongst children and young adults. But when you get into defining boyfriends, girlfriends, and relationships, as well as competing definitions of red flag dos and don’ts, once again, with zero trust in the present Administration’s DOJ and FBI political appointees, my appetite for hoping for the best is exhausted.
